Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things

"Weird"

—Leonard Maltin, Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide

The SET-UP: Five young kinky actors and their artistic director come to a desolate and nearly forgotten burial island, complete with a morbid history of MURDER, RAPE, CURSES and DEMONS. Alan (Alan Ormsby), the brilliant but bizarre Director of the company, has brought them to this foreboding place to dabble in witchcraft; specifically to dig up a fresh corpse and use it in a ritual ceremony which is supposed to raise the dead from their graves. The PAY-OFF: It seems as though Alan has really gathered his "children" here, only to play a practical joke on them and then to party the rest of the night away. However, the joke's on Alan. His bizarre ritual ceremony really does raise the dead from their graves...only they're in no mood to party! NOTE: "BENJAMIN" CLARK is really "BOB" CLARK, the creative director behind the hit films PORKY'S, BLACK CHRISTMAS and A CHRISTMAS STORY among others. ALAN ORMSBY, though he turned in what has been described as "...one of the most obnoxious screen performances in history!", has actually made a mark for himself as the screenwriter for such memorable films as MY BODYGUARD, CAT PEOPLE, KARATE KID 3 and PORKY'S 2.

Michael's Musings

Hocus Pocus My Ass
Michael Shinafelt

So Hocus Pocus 2 drops tomorrow, the sequel to Hocus Pocus a movie that people have been pretending is actually good for 29 years.

As Madonna would say "Express Yourself, don't Repress Yourself" therefore bear witness to me expressing myself without repression of my true feelings about Hocus Pocus. Did I strike a nerve? I hope so!

I'd say there's a special place in Hell for Lisa Rinna, but Purgatory is worse (also she'd most likely thrive in Hell) Thus there is special place for her there!!!

A whacky way out world of witches sounds perfectly groovy right here, right now

Watched the first four episodes of Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story - not sure I'll finish, but Niecy Nash is amazing. Also nice to see Molly Ringwald again...

Freddy on the streets, Michael in the sheets. Think about it, but not too much

Hump Day & Chill

9 1/2 Weeks
Kim Basinger

For a few reasons Kima Basinger has been on my mind of late. Remember her? She was a HUGE star in the eighties and nineties. She had beauty and talent. Trust moi she was more than just a pretty face and has an Oscar for her portrayal of Lynn Bracken in LA Confidential to prove it.

Thus we are gonna Hump Day & Chill to Ms. Basinger, because it's my blog and I'll do what I want to, so there!

I follow Kim on Instagram and she recently liked a comment of mine regarding her work with Jeff Bridges in a terrific little film called The Door In The Floor (bear witness to it, I posted it here.)

Guessing you could say I am a fan. It got me thinking about seeing 9 1/2 Weeks which at the time was notorious because it dared to portray a masochistic love story. She was riveting as Elizabeth opposite Mickey Rourke's John.

Kim took risks. She was never demure in her choices. She is the poster person for "Go Big Or Go Home" - I miss her presence in films.

Fun Fact: She's the only reason I attempted to watch Fifty Shades Darker. If she had been the main attraction I could have actually endured it.

So let's give a Hump Day & Chill toast to Kim, shall we? You'd better believe it!

It's Niecy Time

Stellar!
Niecy Nash

I am three episodes deep into Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and I can state with 100% certainty that Niecy Nash is going to take home the Emmy for her amazing portrayal of Jeffrey Dahmer's neighbor Glenda Cleveland.

Many of the superlatives used in the reviews of her work on the show contain the word "terrific" and that word perfectly describes her work in it.

The first real exposure I had to Niecy was on Ryan Murphy's Scream Queens. She was one of the bright spots in what was otherwise a meh show. Then there was Claws where she literally chewed the scenery as rising Queenpin Desna Simms.

Her accomplished body of work speaks for itself, quite loudly I might add.

Come next Emmy Awards it's gonna be: Niecy Time!!!

Dancing On Tables

Scottish band Dancing On Tables have released "So What" the second single off their upcoming debut album 'Colour In The Grey,' out October 14 on Enci Records (Fences, Kulick, The Joy Formidable).

Named as one of Variety Magazine's ''10 Brits To Watch,'' the band's profile continues to rise with stints on Catfish and The Bottlemen's arena tour in 2021, numerous festival appearances, placements in ad campaigns for Schuh x Adidas and Scottish Water, and inclusion on major playlists, such as New Music Friday, The Pop List and Breaking Alternative.

Stream "So What" here: https://orcd.co/dotsowhat

Watch the “So What” music video here: https://youtu.be/rL0W5Bfn_Wc

’So What’ takes raw and delicate lyrics about the realisation that you would do anything to get an old relationship back, reliving all the mistakes you made and the games that plays with your head, and pairs them with anthemic rock."

The contrast between the intimate lyrics and heavy sound act as a way to show how, in a world where it feels like it’s not normal for men to talk honestly about their feelings, people find ways to hide what they really want to say. ‘So What’ acts as a mask, allowing someone to say things deep from the heart that they wouldn’t otherwise feel comfortable saying in a different scenario.

Of their upcoming debut full-length, the band says, "It feels like the last 3 years of our life have all been building up to this album. You can hear the journey that we’ve been on as a group as you go through the tracks, with stories of love, happiness, loss and frustration sang on top of a sound that we have worked hard to define by combining our original rock influences with our favourite modern music alt-pop styles.

The album is a collection of songs that were put together over a time where as musicians, we were suddenly stuck at home after being used to being on the road for most of the year. Like most people, it was tough for us to stay motivated during this, but working together (remotely) on music was the highlight of each day and left us with over 70 tracks to choose from for this album.

For us, writing and recording this album really was the 'colour in the grey' of every day life at this point."

Only 36 More Days...

Well Minions it's only 36 more days until Halloween and 18 more days until the saga between Michael Myers and Laurie Strode comes to it's conclusion with Halloween Ends, on October 14th to be exact.

I can't wait for both!!! "Yes" I am a big horror person and a HUGE fan of the original 1978 Halloween.

The tagline for this teaser poster to Kills is a favorite of mine "Fear Makes Monsters."

It really sums up a lot of what Michael Myers is, and why his popularity endures. He is a cypher that we know nothing about, thus all of our doubts and anxiety can be easily projected on to him. It is precisely those things that have made Michael one of the all time great horror icons, we truly fear him.

So gird your loins, and break out the butcher knife! Halloween 2022 is going to be one for the books!

Red 4 Filth

Star of stage, screen, podcast airwaves and beyond, scalding hot drag superstar Alaska Thunderfuck has revealed the official artwork for her Red 4 Filth album. The long-awaited album arrives today September 23 via PEG Records/Warner Music Group/ADA. Pre-Order HERE

Red 4 Filth produced by Ivan and Peter, Jordan Palmer, Stolar & Chester Krupa & Killingsworth finds Alaska continuing to evolve artistically and is an album of addictive pure pop confections harkening back to the 90’s and early 2000’s ala Britney, Xtina and TLC. Alaska collaborated with a dream team of songwriters (Jay Stolar (Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato), JBACH, Chester Krupa, Skyler Cocco, Jordan Palmer, Andrea Rosario (Aloe Blacc) Jesse Saint John, Nick Laughlin and Ferras) not many other drag performers have attained thus far. “With this album we were heavily referencing the music that made me who I am, and we talk about love and relationships and friendships in a way that I never have before in my music.” said Alaska

Billboard Magazine Breaks Down “Red 4 Filth” Track-by-Track HERE

People Magazine premiered the brand new video HERE for Alaska’s cover of Ace of Base’s, “All That She Wants

HERE today. The “All That She Wants” video features RuPaul Drag Race fave Bosco and completes the latest in a steady output of tracks released from Red 4 Filth, following “Red,” “beautiful (night 4 a) breakdown/without your love,” “wow,” “XOXOY2K/ask me,” “22,” “uh,” “I Am Her (She Is Me) (feat. Ts Madison)” and “Girlz Night (feat. Stephanie’s Child)” that were rolled out over the last year.

The video tells the story of an outer space ingenue— the perfect specimen of womanhood trapped in a space pod by a diabolical creator. But when the mystical creation becomes too powerful, her creator flies into a rage. Does her creator destroy her ? Or does the outer space woman break free once and for all ? You’ll have to watch the video to find out”states Alaska, while Bosco says of the video, “Grueling, unforgiving, and emotionally taxing. I spent months preparing for the role and don’t know if I’ll ever be normal again.

In addition, the “Red 4 Filth” tour HERE is Alaska’s first-ever headlining tour of North America and will feature her performing the entire new album and other fan favorites with a barrage of sickening high fashion backup dancers (2000’s pop-star style) as well as feature her signature brand of comedy for a must-see show. Tickets are on sale HERE  with prices ranging from $20.00 for early GA & $25.00 for GA ADV to $95.00 for VIP/M&G and $249 for the Ultimate VIP experience.

The tour, which Alaska discusses with Access Hollywood HERE will kick off October 25, 2022 in Orlando, FL with over 30 additional dates throughout the country & Canada, including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Toronto and more. Many shows already sold out. All dates listed below.

”Call her a performer on the edge—not just in terms of style, but on the brink of ascending to a higher career echelon." – Queerty

Already released from the Red 4 Filth album is Alaska’s collab with drag supergroup Stephanie’s Child, “Girlz Night” HERE - “Girlz Night” is about that moment of needing to go out with your girls and be hot sluts on the town. The song is a journey from getting ready, to the car ride, to the actual night at the hot sexy club. I love Stephanie’s Child so much, and I have for years…so I’m honored to finally have a song with all of these wickedly talented individuals.” says Alaska. “It’s actually a much sexier and citier queer telling of Sex And The City, but we’re all Samantha. Four hot and horny blonde bitches singing about being very young and effortlessly stunning — they ride limos EVERYWHERE, and they never ever pay for drinks, because they don’t have any money.” said Stephanie’s Child’s Rosé.

Alaska also had the chance to collab with the legendary Ts Madison on, “I Am Her (She Is Me).” The two discuss the track HERE “Ts Madison is a modern day prophet. Her energy and positivity and outlook on life is contagious. Getting to work with her on this song was such an honor and a privilege. I am her she is me.” says Alaska while Ts Madison quips, “From the Moment Alaska inboxed me on Instagram saying she had a music collab that she wanted me a part of, I was extremely ecstatic! It took about a month or so for me to get the actual song and adlibs that were set up for me to do and after listening to the song, I said nah, I wanna do more than this and so I played the track on REPEAT with my music coordinator "KAYNO" and we wrote a cute lil' feature and recorded it in the studio with Alaska.  This song speaks to self-confidence and self-empowerment and being proud of who you are and honey. I AM ALL THOSE THINGS!!  I am her...she is ME!!

Other tracks released are the  90’s/2000’s inspired video (directed by Brad Hammer & Nick Laughlin) for "XOXOY2K" HERE and the single HERE backed with "ask me.”  Alaska coo’s about “XOXOY2K”here - "The fashions and accessories of the early 2000s are burned into my psyche because I came of age in the time of low rise jeans and flip phones.  This is a love song about attraction and repulsion-- all decorated in the mise en scene of the year 2000."

Billboard Magazine -HERE raves – “Remember how much fun early-2000s rave music was? Drag Race all-star Alaska Thunderfuck sure does, and is ready to party down once again as she transports listeners back to the turn of the 21st century with her latest single, “XOXOY2K.” This built-for-the-club anthem sees the drag star reveling in the culture of a decade long past, referencing everything from Von Dutch to NSYNC to JNCO jeans, all over a hard-hitting beat that’ll have you sprinting to the nearest gay bar to live your best Y2K fantasy.”

Red 4 Filth also features “22,” a sweet stripped down song with a truly endearing and uplifting message from Alaska which American Songwriter magazine premiered HERE while Alaska’s single for “wow.”HERE channels all the angsty amped-out rock feels ala Avril, Olivia Rodrigo & Alanis.  When asked to describe “wow.”, Alaska stated, “It’s a breakup song!” See for yourself in this video HERE with Alaska out of drag on guitar (red, of course) backed by the band Disciplez banging out a raw and unfiltered performance.

beautiful (Night 4 a) breakdown” HERE – which opens the album is filled with all the essential emotional ingredients as Alaska explains, “I live with hysteria, tantrums, and breakdowns on pretty much a daily basis.  So this is a beautiful dance anthem that is celebrating the liberating power that you can find by being comfortable and familiar with your inner demons, rather than trying to run from them or hide them.” Watch the official video HERE.

Red,”the first track HERE released from Red 4 Filth was also hailed by Billboard magazine HERE - Alongside being one of RuPaul's Drag Race's biggest stars, Alaska Thunderfuck knows how to put together a banger. Nowhere is that more clear than on "Red," the drag star's stunning new single. The song, which comes off of the star's upcoming album Red 4 Filth, is a thumping electro-pop banger through and through, with Alaska offering some stellar vocals (as well as her signature talk-singing in the song's second verse) to bring home this early-2000s-style bop.

“Red is the color of blood, and the heart, and the color of love. This song and this album are dedicated to the time when I first fell in love with music — around the turning of the century. We’re drawing upon the sounds and textures of the 90s and early 2000s, with pop songs that are about love and friendship. I love the music and I can’t wait to share it with you all.” says Alaska

"Faith In Me"

David Archuleta who made his first major foray into professional musical theater this summer starring as Joseph in the Andrew Lloyd Weber (Phantom of The Opera) and Tim Rice (Beauty and the Beast) musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat HERE has released the official video for his latest single, “Faith in Me” HERE HERE.

David spoke in depth with Billboard Magazine –HERE about his new music and his recent coming out journey.

“Faith in Me” is the first taste of new music from David since having vocal cord surgery earlier this year and by far one of his more personal songs to date as he states here, “”Faith In Me” is about escaping and leaving all your worries behind and just going for a new adventure. Not caring about what anyone thinks- letting go and taking off. We actually re-wrote the song to accommodate where I’m at now as we originally began writing it before I came out. In the end, the main objective was to just go forward with someone and not care what anyone thinks. The sentiment is more than a specific stor.” says David. Video directors Kevin McHale and Justin Thorne stated, We wanted to create an environment for David to perform freely. To evoke that emotional experience when you’re alone and excited and there’s no one watching. That definitely came out in his performance.”

Watch David’s powerful speech from the 2022 LoveLoud Festival - HERE

“Faith in Me”arrives on the heels of his two most recent single releases,”Beast” HERE  and “Movin’” which featured not one, but two versions of the song.  “Movin’” HERE also sports a special “After Hours” remix HERE.

David's 2021 album Therapy Sessions featured an inside look into David’s internal struggle with himself - a battle he has experienced for most of his life. “I was going through therapy and trying to apply the steps it took to escape the barriers I had created for myself,” he explains. “Whether it was fear, loss, dwelling on the past, or anxiety. There’s a constant battle going on because so much of my mind doesn’t want to budge. The songs are a sort of a back and forth within the inner dialogue I have with myself." This new body of work represents a transparency that has not been present in previous releases.   “Music has always been healing for me,” Archuleta goes on to say. “My mission with it is to heal, and then encourage to move forward after the healing takes place. I want people to find answers to their worries and doubts as they listen to Therapy Sessions .”

In addition, David has announced he will hit the road his “The More The Merrier” Christmas tour beginning November 18 performing many of the seasonal gems HERE from his two holiday releases, Christmas from the Heart & Winter in the Air. Link to purchase tickets HERE. David will also be featured on award-winning pop-violinst  Lindsey Stirling’s forthcoming holiday album, Snow Waltz (Oct. 7). David lends his crystalline vocals on the uplifting ballad, “Magic,” which was sparked from a profound moment of Stirling’s life, when her sisters and mom shared loving and fun memories around her father’s passing.

Hump Day & Chill

A Vibe
Marilyn Monroe & Gwen Verdon

With all the buzz about Blonde the fictionalized version of Marilyn Monroe's life, well we need to Hump Day & Chill to Marilyn and her real life I say!

Here is, to me, an amazing behind the scenes photo of Marilyn and dancer extraordinaire Gwen Verdon on the set of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

Gwen is watching every step Marilyn makes, while not the actual choreographer, Gwen is making sure Marilyn has it down, pitter pat.

Marilyn and Gwen, Gwen and Marilyn. They are giving a grand Hump Day & Chill vibe that is all their own.

Yes, they own it, and so should you!!!

Black Narcissus

“Black Narcissus” is quite simply one of the most dazzling films ever made. Its mind-blowing use of color, sets, and lighting transform what could have been just another entertaining melodrama into a work of art. This British gem, which follows a working order of nuns in the Himalayas, stands among the top achievements by the incomparable filmmaking team of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, and remains one of the most stunning in all of cinema."

Monday Motivation

George Hahn

While I seldom drink coffee, today will be one of those days that I do. "Yes" Minions my Monday Motivation today is C-O-F-F-E-E damn it!!!

Here to drive home my point is the quite amusing George Hahn who I stumbled upon and follow on Twitter. George is so many things, and actor, political activist, a social commentator. He is clever and has a sharp wit. He also drinks coffee.

Since my like skills are sort of soft tipped, instead of sharp heading into the day I'm taking a cue from George and imbibing in a cup, or two, perhaps three of good old fashioned Joe.

Don't judge me, my exhaustion must be acknowledged!!!

Grab a cup and join me, won't you? I already know you will...

Chrissy Teigen

"Yes" it's here the day we all crave, it's National Cheeseburger Day! Seeing as how I indulged in one yesterday I will be celebrating today in spirit only.

Here's Chrissy Teigen straight outta the Vanity Fair Oscar Party looking ever so elegant as she chows down on said burger in some expensive designer dress no less.

Only our Chrissy of Burgers could make this a look and a whole entire vibe.

Thus take the day of the cheeseburger and bend it like Ms. Teigen, ya know, make it your own Minions and then some!!!

Yummy!
