The Linguini Incident

David Bowie & Rosanna Arquette

MVD Entertainment Group has acquired North American rights to Emmy-winning director Richard Shepard’s (The Matador, Dom Hemingway, The Handmaid’s Tale) debut film, The Linguini Incident. Rock music legend David Bowie (The Man Who Fell to Earth) and Rosanna Arquette (Pulp Fiction) star in the film along with Academy Award® winner Marlee Matlin (Children of a Lesser God), Buck Henry (Heaven Can Wait), Eszter Balint (Stranger Than Paradise), Andre Gregory (Demolition Man), Viveca Lindfors (The Sure Thing), James Avery (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) and Maura Tierney (Liar Liar). MVD is planning a limited theatrical release for the film, followed by its debut on digital, video on demand and physical media in summer 2024, under MVD’s Marquee Collection banner.

The Linguini Incident is a romantic caper about a perennially underpaid waitress named Lucy (Arquette) and Monte (Bowie), a mysterious, charming (and very in debt) bartender. Lucy is seriously in need of cash and Monte needs to marry someone, anyone, by the end of the week… or else. Together they join forces — along with Lucy’s lingerie designing best friend, Viv (Balint) — to rob their terminally hip New York City restaurant and solve their financial woes. However these three are far from master criminals and they soon learn that in robberies, as in love, things never go as planned.

Originally released in spring 1992, co-writer and director Richard Shepard and producer Sarah Jackson re-claimed the rights to Shepard's debut feature film, scanned and restored the movie in 4K and assembled a never-before-seen director’s cut. According to Richard, “I’m thrilled that the great folks at MVD are going to re-release The Linguini Incident and present this brand-new director’s cut, with an incredibly beautiful transfer. It’s going to be a fun discovery or rediscovery for fans of Bowie, Arquette or independent films of the early 90s.”

“I’m a huge fan of Richard’s body of work, especially The Matador, and one of the great privileges of my career is getting to collaborate with some of my favorite filmmakers and help bring their passion projects back to life,” said Eric D. Wilkinson, Director of Acquisitions at MVD Entertainment Group. “The Linguini Incident is a criminally underrated gem and I’m excited to be re-introducing Richard’s restored director’s cut the way it was meant to be seen, under our prestigious Marquee Collection banner.”

Hump Day & Chill

David Bowie & Elizabeth Taylor

Turn and face the cool - "Yes" cool is in iconic, nothing else like it, bet you wished you were them.

We are simply going to Hump Day & Chill to "cool" today and I can not think of anything cooler right here, right now than David Bowie & Elizabeth Taylor doing a photo shoot together. I'd like to see anyone top this in the cool hall of fame. At the very least it's in the Top 10 of the coolest things of all time.

Remember when you are feeling cool as ice all cocky and stuff. You are not until you've reached this def con level of it. It's a level you can aspire to reach, but...

Know this, you never will.

Hump Day & Chill, it's time to go into the aesthetic of cool!

The Spirit of 76

Today I choose to remember David Bowie on what would have been his 76th Birthday. Yeah, I know I rarely if ever do this, but there are very few people who have had this much influence over my life.

He was my very first concert that I went and saw without my parents. I have also been lucky enough to have met him. He came into the legendary Tower Records on the Sunset Strip when I worked there back in the day. He was everything you'd imagine he'd be, truly an amazing, humble being.

As I look back on my life, I know part of who I am today is because of Mr. Bowie.

"There's a Starman waiting in the sky, He'd like to come and meet us, But he thinks he'd blow our minds"

Keep on shining Starman, consider my mind blown.

Merry Christmas - Bowie & Bing My Christmas Tradition

David Bowie & Bing Crosby

Merry Christmas Minions! Here is a Christmas tradition of mine I wanted to share. Way back when in 1977 I remember one of the things that left an indelible impression on me in my younger years.

I was absolutely stunned when I saw David Bowie & Bing Crosby duet on the Little Drummer Boy on Bing's Christmas special. It was beautiful and amazing (I am a HUGE Bowie fan! Bing isn't too shabby either) and it was two completely different generations coming together to form on bad ass Christmas Classic!

This was something that completely etched itself into my psyche forever, thus every Christmas Day I watch it.

TBH I just watched it again before this post and will watch again today (I'm not going to spill how many more times) It's my one must do's for Christmas.

Merry Christmas to all, what is it you do every Christmas? Hit the video of Bowie & Bing after the sleigh ride!

"It's the terror of knowing what the world is about, Watching some good friends screaming, "Let me out!"Under Pressure, David Bowie & Queen

For some reason the song Under Pressure was playing in my head when I woke this morning and judging by these lyrics from it I'm sure we can collectively understand why with all the bonkers things happening in the world.

Thus I pulled up the David Bowie, Annie Lennox & Queen performing it on YouTube and knew it's what you all need to kick off your week.

My Monday gift to you.

Celebrating David Bowie

Let's Dance!
David Bowie

Today would have been David Bowie's 74th Birthday. With 27 albums and 145 million copies sold worldwide David Bowie continues to inspire generation after generation. Thus I thought we would mark the legacy of this legend today. Not to mention that he is one of my favorite artists.

I thought what could I add to this day and I can say plenty, but will keep it to personal experiences. "Yes" I have a couple, wait for it...

David Bowie was my first concert I went to, it was for the Let's Dance Tour and The Tubes opened for him at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, WA. Wow! What a show that was, seeing a master of his art take the stage and command it like he did is something I will always remember. I would go on to see him two other times in concert, one of them was a co-tour with Nine Inch Nails. This is one of the things I am thankful for in my lifetime, that I have bared witness to him, live.

The next was even more personal, "Yes" I've met David Bowie. It was in a time before there were smart phones, so no visual evidence. I wished there was, as given my encounter with him I'm sure he would have graciously consented to photos.

I was working at Tower Records Sunset in Los Angeles. He came in one day and I remember all of us that worked there were awe struck. Honestly he's the only personal I have ever freaked out about (in a good way) seeing and meeting them.

He was so gracious and down to earth. No ego or attitude, very kind and so humble. So humble that when one of the clerks said: "Mr. Bowie it's such honor to meet you" He said: "Oh please, I'm not that big of a deal" - truly an amazing spirit and a class act.

Current Mood

The Glam Team
David Bowie & Catherine Deneuve

Well Hello Monday...we have arrived at yet another day in the continuing saga: What the Hell is going to happen today in 2020?

I don't know, but it sure isn't bound to be dull, or glamorous. Thus bringing me to my  Current Mood, I have been wanting something cool and glam in my life, which brought one of my favorite films to mind The Hunger. That was one cool/glam vampire movie, thus I decided to Google images from it.

This being stated, while this image is not from the film, it is of it's co-stars David Bowie & Catherine Deneuve. Nothing says cool or glamorous quite like the these two and this is them simply hanging out. Whether it was during filming or not is unclear, but this shot is great and fills my need for some escapism glam style at this moment, right here, right now.

Also, there were several other gems I came across, like some publicity shots I had never seen. However this one best sums my Current Mood up for this Monday.

Come with me and escape...

Just Because...Androgyny

Man/Woman - Woman/Man
Just Because, we all deserve a break, Just Because it was all the rage once & Just Because this is an awesome photo it's time for some Androgyny!

"Boys in the girl's room
Girls in the men's room
You free your mind in your androgyny" - Androgyny, Garbage

While it has never gone out of style, androgyny was really big in the 80's. It was also something I could never pull off, trust me I tried. Which is why I never partook in it.

So, it's time to play a little "Just Because" game. Can you guess who the two gender benders above are? Once is a music legend and the other is a critically acclaimed actress of extreme versatility.

Any thoughts? Any answers

Well I am not going to toy with you, the world can be frustrating enough these days. The answers are David Bowie & Tilda Swinton!

Now go do something today "Just Because"...

"There's a starman waiting in the sky

This past week two things have occupied the corners of my mind, David Bowie and Marilyn Monroe in The Misfits. How are they related to my psyche, each other and the world around me? I really don't know. What I do know is both of these things take me to a happy place and in these trying times that's the best medicine there is, time to carry on...

Hump Day & Chill - Tom Connan

Multi-Faceted artist Tom Connan has just released a remix of his song "Chaos" which tackles the subject of drug addiction in a very direct and realistic manner. I just had to know what inspired Tom to "go there" so without further adieu let's Hump Day & Chill with Tom Connan!

MSI love your song Chaos, obviously it resonates with many others as you did a "Black Mix" of it and a whole new video. What made you decide to do a song addressing drug addiction?

TC: I wanted to make a song addressing drugs because several friends of mine fell into that trap, went to rehab etc. It's a horrible phenomenon which is also closely linked to everyone's personal history. Nobody takes cocaine or things like that just because it's "fun". I see a lot of people feeling depressed and trying to escape with drugs. To my own point of view, I think our modern society creates a lot of psychological frustration which sometimes become a real pathology. It's not exactly the same as alcohol, even if it's also some kind of drug, after all. But with cocaine, or heroin, people are looking for something new, some brutal effect in order to erase their negative thoughts. Except it doesn't work. However, I have a lot of empathy for drug addicts as life can sometimes be a very sad and tough experience.

MS: Requiem For A Dream is one of my favorite films. I am guessing you have seen it based on the video. What are your thoughts on it?

TC: I love Requiem For A Dream and I'm very happy that you mention it. I was a child when I first saw it, but then I saw it again a few years ago and I was absolutely fascinated. Not only because it's so realistic, but also because it has this ability to grab you and force you to see what you don't want to see. I think this is precisely where cinema is the best among any other arts. With the combination of music and images, you can't help but looking at it and being focused. Of course normal people feel bad when they see that kind of movie, but sometimes we need to see embarrassing things to increase our awareness about something. I enjoy feeling embarrassed. All the time we watch stupid shows and stupid ads on TV, and it's easy for the mind. With movies like Requiem For A Dream, or Fight Club, or Eyes Wide Shut, we really learn something and become someone new -at some level.

MS: While you show plenty of skin in the re-mix video, you showed a little more in the video for the single. Why did you decide to leave your booty out this time?

TC: Lol, I don't want to show that booty too often. More seriously, this new video was something like the "dark" side of the first one. With the original video, I was trying to show the recreational aspect of taking drugs, which is obvious for everyone. With this second one, I wanted to describe how it can evolve. I have the feeling that in any phenomenon, we can find a "positive" and a "negative" side -we all know that-, but also that we can't delete one part for the other. You can't have the positive if you don't want to take the risk associated with it. If you want to have fun, you have to accept that, at some point, you can put your life at risk. It's the same in love affairs. Love can be a fantastic experience, but when it ends -which happens quite often- it can drive you nuts, so nuts that you want to kill yourself. Love is dangerous, drugs are dangerous, life is inherently dangerous.

MS: Your look in the video is very reminiscent of David Bowie in The Man Who Fell To Earth. Especially when you are shirtless, am I on to something?

TC: Honestly I don't know very much of David Bowie, I was more into singers like Michael Jackson (or even Marilyn Manson). That said, I'm a big fan of transgender and genderfluid pop icons like Bowie, Cher or Prince. Playing with feminine and masculine sides of the human body is so interesting. My own body changed quite a lot the last few years, and I enjoyed all the different levels, if I can say so. We only live once, for me, we need to experience different versions of ourselves. French poet Arthur Rimbaud said something like that in the 19th century.

MS: I love that Tom Connan has gotten freer and more out there creatively.

TC: I think you're totally right about the "freer" person I became. Back a few years ago, I was obsessed with other people's opinion. Now, I just don't give a fuck. My work is not understood by everybody, including in my family, and I think that's good. If you follow what your parents or your brothers want you to do, you'll never achieve your dream. We need to stick to our own model, that nobody can copy. There are tons of singers and artists out there, I don't want to look like them. I want to express my personal, and radical freedom. Otherwise it's absolutely useless.

MS: Spill about your other ventures outside the music world.

TC: The last two years I worked a lot on other ventures outside the music world, I changed the project name many times, and I finally decided to simply choose one name for every division of the brand: Connan. That's simple, that's neutral, that's honest -it's my real last name- and there's no confusion with my full artist name. It's currently a website (connan.io) when you'll soon be able to find different cultural products: music (not only mine), tv, books, fashion and art. I'm currently working with other artists for the music division, as well as authors for the publishing division. It's super exciting as I'm working on several levels at the same time: my next novel will be published by a well-known French publisher called Albin Michel, but I will also publish myself other authors as an entrepreneur. It's great to have this opportunity to work as an author as well as a publisher. The best is yet to come.

MS: If you could be any famous person fictional or not, who would you be?

TC: I'd love to be Tyler Durden, that Fight Club character played by Brad Pitt. He's gorgeous, he's radical, he's clever, he wants to revolt against society. That's a role model for me. No joke.

Michael's Musings

TBT: Blonde Jock
Michael Shinafelt
Today I am in a Throwback Thursday state of mind, hence the photo of myself I chose to use. "Yes" I was once young bleached blonde Guy full of ambition and a few other things 😈 Honestly I am happier and like myself more now than I did then. The old adage is true "Youth is Wasted on the Young" - Unless your Miley Cyrus, then that's a whole other story...

Well It Chapter Two is number one at the BO, no surprise there. Friends whose opinions I trust have not liked it. I honestly found the first one tedious and not scary in the least, I will be sitting this one out. I'll wait till it hits cable thus having the option to switch channels it I so choose 🎈

I had such a challenging week, a snappers falling out eyeball is a welcome change

Smells Like Pumpkin Spice Spirit...Boo!

If you have an unusual, obscure name, don't get arrogantly correct people when they pronounce it wrong. Your parents F#cked you over, deal with it!

Attention, you know I just found what your looking for

This coming Wednesday September 18th American Horror Story: 1984 premieres. Honestly I love that they are taking on 80's slasher movies. Anything would be better than last season.

In the spirit of Throwback Thursday, I remember the time I met the late, great David Bowie. "Yes" I nearly wet myself.

Woman Crush of the Week - Lizzo

"Many people say" is a Trump code for racist lie coming at ya!

Now that Marie Osmond is on The Talk I really need to watch it at least once

"Bitch, We're Gay, Not Vampires!" Sh!t Gays say to religious fanatics waving a cross at them...

Michael, as in me, myself and I says: Relax (see Frankie isn't the only one who can do it, just sayin')

"Solo"

Did you spend Valentine's Day "Solo?"

TINA DECARA RELEASES ANTHEM ON THE POWER OF BEING ALONE: “SOLO”

Pop singer Tina DeCara follows-up her smash single “Illusion” — its had over one million Spotify streams — with “Solo,” a song about loving yourself when you’re at your loneliest.  “I’ve been solo for a while and though most days, I’m cool with not having a special someone to kick it with, there are times my mood swings so low,” admits Tina. It was during one of these down periods that she wrote her new single.   “I sat with a bottle of wine and had a little pity party in my music journal,” she remembers.  But oddly, what emerged wasn’t a sad song about being lonely, but a celebration of self-love and embracing time spent alone.  Tina DeCara’s “Solo” is being released through Big Management and is available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon, and all other major retailers, as well as for streaming through Pandora and Spotify.  Its video is on Youtube.

“My message for anyone struggling to make it through another day is to take a moment to breath and relax.  Don’t try to solve your problems all at once.  Tackle issues one at a time and give yourself a moment to rest in between so you are strong enough for the next battle.”

DeCara admits she often struggles with sad feelings.  “Pursuing pop star dreams is hard.  One day, I’m on top of the world and the next I’m back at square one.  It gets lonely being in the big city, away from home and everyone that I love.”

When she’s feeling isolated, she listens to records, and the day DeCara wrote the song that would become “Solo,” she had been sent a new instrumental produced by The Drupes.    “It was pretty popish, with a bop your head around and dance to it happy kinda vibe,” she explains. “But somehow my melancholy lyrics worked  well with it.”

She went to a studio in Queens and recorded the single in about two hours. “It was a great session.  The energy was high.”

Tina DeCara grew up on Long Island with her parents and two brothers. She began singing and songwriting in high school, drawing inspiration from the likes of David Bowie, Lady Gaga, and Amy Winehouse.  While her friends were not supportive of her superstar dreams, her family encouraged her to follow her passion.

“I was surprised by all the negativity I received from kids I had chosen to have in my life.   I quickly cut them out.”

She says one of the biggest challenges as an artist is finding yourself and learning what your voice is capable of.   “I write about how I’m feeling and then I put some unexpected twist on it,” she explains.  “It’s an incredibly personal process so I try not to focus on what is going on outside my bubble.”

The music video for “Solo” echoes these sentiments.  Directed by David Wept and shot in and around Coney Island, the video depicts Tina DeCara celebrating the one person who matters most in her life.

“Though I’m solo, for the most part, I’m always giggling.  I work hard, I’m determined and if I have a little unhealthy obsession over buying wigs, what’s it to you? Until I’m a duo, I’m just goin’ to do me.”

Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story

The more you know...

With exclusive voice-over contributions from David Bowie, this film is a celebration of the life and works of guitar virtuoso Mick Ronson, a rock hero virtually uncelebrated despite his direct contribution and involvement in countless compositions, lyrics and recordings that changed the face of music forever.

An Emperor Media Ltd production, documentary special Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story(101:50 minutes) is from award-winning producer/director Jon Brewer. Mick Ronson's humble beginnings in Hull, England underpinned his values and modest, unpretentious personality as he worked with the city's council whilst pursuing his craft with consummate dedication.

Soon word of his talent reached David Bowie, who grabbed at the chance to work with Ronson, in what would become a career-long association, alongside collaborations with other greats such as Bob Dylan, Ian Hunter, Lulu, Lou Reed, Morrissey and John MellencampThe Man Who Sold the World, Aladdin Sane, Hunky Dory, The Jean Genie - all were constructed with Ronson on guitar.

Sadly in 1993, while working on a solo album, Ronson passed away before receiving the recognition he so richly deserved or before taking that final bow. Now, with unprecedented access to archival backstage footage - never before released - and iconic imagery from superstar photographer Mick Rock, this fascinating and at times controversial special reveals the ultimate authentic chronicle of the career of a cornerstone of rock.

Producer and director Jon Brewer commented, "Both Mick Ronson and David Bowie together were the ultimate duo. They performed and recorded like magicians and created masterpieces that will live on forever."

Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story is distributed in the US by MVD Entertainment Group via Blu-ray + DVD, transactional video on demand, and download to own rights from international distributor Content Media following the Parade Deck Films theatrical release .
