Me & Mr. Cigar

Sometimes a "cigar" is just a "Mr."...

From the wild and wonderful mind of Gibby Haynes, world-famous
Butthole Surfers front man/lyricist and self-proclaimed eternal Texan adolescent, comes the surreal tale of seventeen-year-old
Oscar Lester and his trusted dog, Mr. Cigar.

"This book is so wild, so mind-blowing, so much fun to read, that I almost forgot it was fiction! (It is fiction, right? Mega-giant tech companies aren't really in cahoots with the government, right? Flying alien creatures aren't really mistaken for lawnmowers . . . right? Please, tell me this is fiction!) Fast-paced, brilliantly funny, irreverent, clever . . . AND it's illustrated? Me and Mr. Cigar is the quintessential teen read, and ipso facto a must-read for adults, too!"
Garth Stein, #1 New York Times-bestselling author of The Art of Racing in the Rain

Elevator PitchGibby Haynes, the front man of the legendary and genre-defying psychedelic rock band, the Butthole Surfers, has written a YA novel about a boy and his dog. Wait . . . what?

Long Play Version: Me and Mr. Cigar (Soho Teen | January 14th, 2020) is the wonderfully weird debut YA from psychedelic rock legend Gibby Haynes. It is as strange as you might imagine, more surreal than you would expect, and will move you in ways you could never anticipate. Part road trip, part coming-of-age, and part redemption, Me and Mr. Cigar takes Oscar Lester and his best friend/enforcer/magical pet dog, Mr. Cigar on a journey to save Oscar's sister, Rachel, who has been abducted by a sinister cabal for reasons unknown. Along the way, Oscar encounters ultra-secret technology, agents of the US government, super-wealthy corporate interests, and nefarious art dealers. But his motive to save Rachel always comes back to his dog. Five years earlier, Mr. Cigar bit off Rachel's hand, and she's been estranged from them ever since. In other words, this is YA the Gibby Haynes way.
It might seem strange that Haynes, once known as "The Weirdest Man in Showbusiness" for his lurid lyrics and intense stage presence, would set out to write a book for kids. But take a closer look at the surreal and often darkly comedic lyrics of the Butthole Surfers, and you'll see it all makes perfect sense. Haynes is a natural storyteller. He is a Texan, after all.
Haynes is also a visual artist, a music teacher, and the father of a young son. Butthole Surfers fans will find plenty of Haynes's specific brand of weird to rejoice over in Me and Mr. Cigar, but readers will also find the heart and earnestness of a devoted father and mentor. And his (?) dog-loving bonafides are evident on nearly every page. What's to lose? Take the trip.
Listen to Zach Galifianakis reading an early version of Me and Mr. Cigar
"It takes a book as hilarious, bizarre, profane, and heartfelt as Me & Mr. Cigar to truly convey the surreality of coming of age as a teenage boy. This book hit this former teenage boy and new dog owner right in the heart, by way of the gut."
- Jeff Zentner, Morris Award-winning author of
The Serpent King and Goodbye Days
"In the book world we call it 'magical realism.' In the music world they call it 'psychedelic rock.' Gibby Haynes is very good at both, which he proves with his brilliant first novel Me and Mr. Cigar. This novel has it all: glimpses into Haynes's Texas childhood and teen years, a touch of his distinctive surrealism, and a heartfelt story which makes it a very good read."
- Blake Nelson, author of Girl and Recovery Road

"I felt like I was diving into a YA written by Thomas Pynchon. It was a dang blast!"
- Geoff Herbach, bestselling author of Stupid Fast

Dog Duty

Doggy Style
Dylan McDermott
It's time to let the dogs out, that's correct minions tis the day for Dog Duty, surrender the leash!

Oh, and what better way to report for such a task than with stud Dylan McDermott walking his pooch (not a euphemism) in NYC.

Dylan is so hunky, how hunky is he you ask? Well he actually attended a play I was in many moons ago, where I bared my backside to the audience and my front side to my fellow cast members.

I believe he was there because one of my co-stars was his waiter at a restaurant and told him about it. Anyway...he has the most beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen and so handsome to boot.

What does this have to do with Dog Duty you may ask? Nothing really, I simply used the dog walking pic as an excuse to swoon over Dylan. "Yes" I am feeling naughty - so there!

Now get out there and crack that whip (this is a euphemism)

Ciao!

Monday Motivation

Going To The Dogs
KJ Apa
Happy Presidents Day! I know some of you will take this as an opportunity to Trump bash. Please don't, this is a celebration of the others that came before him. On that note let's dive into today's Monday Motivation...Today's MM is brought to you by volunteering.

"Yep" volunteer work is something we are all capable of and should do. I have in the past and really need to get off my booty and do it again. Thus I am using this post to give myself, as well as you all a push in the right direction.

What better way to motivate you than this photo of two adorable things Riverdale's KJ Apa volunteering with the ASPCA at Wallis Annenberg PetSpace in Los Angeles

Too cute, and so is the dog. Normally I am not into younger guys but there is something about KJ that "pops" to me. There is also a cute dog, see how good I am at motivating you minions? I got this too sweet photo and two cuties to make you rise to the occasion. Damn, I'm good!

Take whatever it is you feel passionate about, whether it be animals, or??? Go out find someplace that you can be of service to your passion. Volunteering, it's that simple and doesn't cost you a thing.

Now get out there and Monday

Fugly Christmas Sweater Friday

The Horror
Miley Cyrus
'Tis the season for Fugly Christmas Sweaters fa la la la la, la la la la....

It's that time of year where the apparel people don is in questionable taste especially when in comes to sweaters

Witness Miley Cyrus in an odd little number that features a graphic of Santa covering his face in what looks like horror. It's like a Christmas/Halloween hybrid or something, what that truly is I have not a clue. Oh, and don't pretend you do either, got it?

Miley has a plethora of Fugly Christmas Sweaters of the season to choose from, it's like her own tradition during this festive time of year. My reasons for choosing this one is the actual image of her and her dog radiates warmth and cheer. Translation: It made me smile and the canine helped off set the hideous sweater.

So break out whatever it is you imbibe in and raise a glass of cheer! Only four more days, yikes!!!

A Boy and His Dog

Puppy Love
Charlie Hunnam
Because the season of giving draws nigh I thought this charming photo of hunky Charlie Hunnam from Sons of Anarchy and his pooch posing in West Hollywood for fans was appropriate.

Now you may be scratching something wondering why, or you may see the connection, but not sure of what point I am trying to put across.

People love pets. The Holiday season tends to play on our best instincts and emotions. So how about this year when you give the gift that keeps on giving a companion for someone, adopt them from a shelter.

Like Naughty Girls, Shelter Pets need love too!

Something to contemplate in the countdown to Christmas, think about it, but not too much, giving something that makes two living things happy. That's the spirit!

Slumber Party w/Christina Hendricks

Woof!
Christina Hendricks, Geoffrey Arend & Zouzou
Because she played Joan Harris one of my most favorite savvy, intelligent female characters ever to grace a hit TV show on Mad Men, who was in complete control of who she was. I present you this photo of Hollywood bombshell Christina Hendricks.

Her latest appearance being Nicolas Winding Refn's The Neon Demon as well as an all night movie slumber party Cinespia at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Puppy Love, Lucy Hale

When Lucy Met Elvis

Pretty Little Liars Lucy Hale recently introduced her 14 Million Instagram followers to her little white fur baby, Elvis. Posting several photos with captions like:

'I realize I'm becoming the annoying dog girl but seriously ?! He's so cuddly and fluffy and sweeeet'

She also made a fashion statement by accessorizing Elvis with a pair of overalls pictured above saying:

'Taking overalls to a whole new level with Elvis.'

Being a huge Pretty Little Liars fan and having a soft spot for adorable little dogs I just had to post this

It's the dog days of summer after all...Happy Saturday!

No word on whether or not Lucy plans to train Elvis to do the Jailhouse Rock as of yet.
