Father's Day

Who's Your Daddy?

Today is the day we celebrate Fathers, Dads, Daddy's. "Yes" I know it's kind of cliche' commemorating this day with an meme from The Empire Strikes Back, but I happened to see it again recently on TV and it still holds up as a grand piece of filmmaking.

However the "twist" of Darth Vader being Luke Skywalker's Father, well honestly who didn't see that one coming? You merely have to be familiar with any sort of classic literature to be in the loop on that revelation.

So let's raise a light saber to all those Fathers out there and hope we cut no one's hand off!

Father's Day

We Are Family

Happy Father's Day and all that jazz! Jazz hands only please, thank you...

Being that it is also Pride Month I thought maybe, perhaps, definitely we would celebrate not with one, but two Dads. Sounds good? I knew it would and it is a completely wizard idea!!!

Thus we have Cheyenne Jackson and his husband Jason Landau with their twins Willow and Ethan. These two little nuggets were born via surrogacy, and since one is a boy and the other is a girl it's easy to tell them apart, correct?

Love is love and family is family.

Keep on keepin' -

Waxing Nostalgic

Together Again
Bruce Willis & Demi Moore

Yesterday was Father's Day thus a lot of celebrities and common folk took to Social Media posting photos to pay tribute to that special man in their lives.

Well whilst hitting the round-up of said photos I came across this current one of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore. Captioned: "Happy Father's Day, Bruce! Your kids are so lucky to have you,"

This took me back to when they were actually married for eleven years, they were a Hollywood power couple starring in many movies that brought them both big paychecks. In fact Moore became the highest paid actress (at the time) in film history receiving a then unheard of $12.5 million for Striptease. Willis made as much as $20 million at the time depending on the role.

However this is not what I will remember their legacy for, what I will look back on is a small film they did together that Demi produced called Mortal Thoughts. Her is the synopsis for it:

"Mortal Thoughts is a low-key thriller revolving around the relationship between two best friends who are involved in the death of one of their husbands. The movie unfolds as the events leading to a confession are shown in flashback. Joyce (Glenne Headly) is married to the abusive, unfaithful James (Bruce Willis). During an outing at a carnival, James is killed, and Joyce and her best friend Cynthia (Demi Moore) try to cover up the murder."

Of course it was so much more than this, as legendary film critic Roger Ebert puts it:

"There is another level to Mortal Thoughts than either the guilt or innocence of the characters, or the wit with which Rudolph portrays their world. It is the level on which ordinary people cut themselves loose from ordinary morality."

Ebert nailed the truth of this film and this is the reason I love it! Make your day a good one!

Just Because...Jon Hamm

Who's Your Daddy?
Jon Hamm
Just Because he fills out his sweats nicely, Just Because it's Father's Day (think about it, but not too much) and Just Because he's bringing Bucket Hats back, here's Jon Hamm leaving a liquor store with what looks like an energy drink.

Happy Father's Day to all of you Daddy's out there (now do you get why Jon is my poster guy for it???) - Anyway nothing beats a Hamm sighting in sweatpants, although it does not look like Jon is up to his freeballing ways from this shot. Which is a bummer, I know he got a lot of attention for it in the press when Mad Men was on the air. Perhaps he decided to tie the Kraken down to avoid the unwanted(?) focus it drew.

Whatever the case a nice casual photo of him out and about is always a welcome sight.

Seize the day Minions!

Chris & Katherine Sitting On A Park Bench...

Hello Young Lovers
Chris Pratt & Katherine Schwarzenegger
Yeah, they weren't sitting in a tree, that's so dated. Chris Pratt & Katherine Schwarzenegger the eldest daughter of Arnold Schwarzenegger & Maria Shriver
Were spotted on Father's Day on a bench in a park in Santa Barbara, CA.

As you may recall Chris and his also famous wife, Anna Faris divorced not too long ago.

This was his first Father's Day without his kids, but, hey they're all right.

Whatever is, or isn't happening with Chris & Katherine, their reps aren't commenting. Silence is golden after all.

Don't they simply look cute as a dickens together?

Nod your head and say "yes."

Who's Your Daddy?

Father Figure
Michael Shinafelt

Happy Father's Day!

While my Father passed away a while ago from Cancer, lung to be exact, this year I thought I would take a different approach to the designated day for Dad's

That's correct it's time to play "Who's Your Daddy!" Yay! Hooray!

Now that it's out there, perhaps I could be yours. My name is Michael, I'll be your Daddy tonight. Hey, it wouldn't be the first (nor last) time I've ever been called that.

After all "I will be your preacher teacher, (Be your daddy)", Father Figure, ya know.

To all you Father's out there it's your day, celebrate. To all you Daddy's out there, keep doing you.

Who's Your Daddy?

Call Me Daddy
Michael Shinafelt

Happy Father's Day Everyone!

I was not really sure what to write about today since my father passed away from cancer quite a spell ago.

Something a little cheeky perhaps, yeah I am sort of feeling that way thus the byline and accompanying image. Mixed with something a little reverent, yep, that's where this next part comes in.

F#ck Cancer! Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide. It has touched so many people's lives that I know, including mine, and is a hateful disease. It shows no mercy and leaves the host ravaged.

Sometimes it's a slow painful death in the case of my Father and other times it's quick and painful. Either way it's merciless.

Currently I can name off a few people who I know it is working it's voodoo on and I hope they beat it. This shit deserves to be put in it's f#cking place!

Me & My Dad
So, I am taking Father's Day and dedicating it to the memory of mine, Bill Shinafelt February 23, 2009 who passed away from lung cancer.

Happy Father's Day!

Me and My Dad, Bill Shinafelt
Photo: Jan Landburg-Shinafelt
Today is the day that we honor our Fathers, "yes" it's Father's Day people! I have a request of all of you, if your Dad is still living please let him know you love him today. Whether it be a phone call, card, Facebook post on his wall or some sort of gift.

A Father's love should be unconditional and I was lucky enough to have a Dad whose was.

My Father is deceased and I miss him all of the time. He passed away February 23, 2009. The cause of his death was lung cancer. His doctors gave him six months to live, he then decided to quit smoking his beloved pipe. He lived for three years and died two days after his 76th Birthday.

In honor of my Father I would like to take this moment to draw attention to two things.

First smoking is directly related to cancer, if you think it isn't you are wrong. When my Dad went into a hospice and died two days later after his three year long battle he was next to a gentleman who had also been given six months to live, but did not quit smoking. Guess what? Unlike my Dad who gave it up and survived three years after his diagnosis, the other man passed within that given time frame.

In short, smoking blows, literally if you smoke please stop.

Second cancer is the number one cause of death in the world and trust me, it's not a pretty one. Please let's never forget that, for more information about cancer and to donate towards fighting it please click on the link to The American Cancer Society below.

Happy Father's Day, Dad!
