Michael's Musings

Look! I'm A Push Me Pull You!!!
Michael Shinafelt
On this weeks saga of As The Quarantine Turns - Social Summer has officially been cancelled.? "Yes" Minions California has Stay At Home orders until September. Which is just as well because here in the land of lock down, while I have been exercising, it's not the gym and I have been eating out of boredom. Thus I don't have the Social Summer Body I would have wanted. There's always an upside!

This week's Netflix & Chill is a recommendation from my niece, Lindley Waters, "You" good call Lindley, I love it! Season Two is even better than the first!

Tik Tok is making a lot of hot people truly not do-able

Let's discuss our most  mundane celebrity encounters, shall we? Mine was with Julianne Moore at the now defunct Rexall on Beverly and LaCienega. I told her how much I loved one of her first films Safe, she smiled and said Thank You, then we moved on.

Sweat sock opera gloves, discuss...

This season of Vanderpump Rules feels like it's been on since the beginning of time. In case you were wondering, that is not a compliment.

Shout out to the Thirst Responders (FYI not a typo)

During this time don't be a conversation killer. Seriously you don't want to be that person

Woman Crush of the Week - Shay Mitchell in You, she gives a deliciously bitchy performance as Peach Salinger

There's nothing wrong with pretending your apartment is a piano bar and putting a tip jar on the end table, nothing at all

I had a dream with a lot of Cats & Dogs in it last night, that's all I remember about it, other than it was a pleasant one 😊

This weeks go to catch phrase: "Why don't you ask China that?"

I'm having a big bowl of frozen blueberries for breakfast, "Yes" I'm living my best life

My favorite thing about this time and place in the history of the world is ________ your assignment is to fill in the blank, surely you have something you like about it.

Monday Motivation

I am an early riser and there is nothing I like better than if I can accomplish all my major errands by 7 ayem. That's correct minions I stated 7 ayem, I usually rise at 4 or 5 to start my day and that is without an alarm. Thus today's MM is, Accomplishment.

When I woke-up at 4 ayem today I was thrilled to know that I could get my three major errands accomplished by 7 which were 1) deposit a check 2) pick up some groceries 3) get a roll of quarters for laundry.

I motored out of my apartment at 5:30 hit the bank, then hit the grocery store where I was also able to procure a roll of quarters. Home, and am now writing today's post. While strutting down Hollywood Blvd. on the Walk of Fame I even managed to take a photo of Julianne Moore's star as proof of my accomplishments today and at present it is only 7:09

Thus this means the rest of the things I have to do today and there are many will be a breeze as I got the more time consuming things (meaning things I have to leave home to do) completed early and easily.

See the absolute best thing about doing things you have to leave home for this early in the day is, they get done quicker as there is no one really out and about at that time.

Monday has started off terrific for me, what's your Monday Motivation?

Fishy Friday

Julianne Moore & Michael Phelps
The Little Mermaid

"Love to explore that shore above? Out of the sea, Wish I could be, Part of that world" Part Of Your World "The Little Mermaid"

OK, it's not exactly Fishy Friday, but The Little Mermaid Friday didn't quite have the same flow to it 😉

For no other reason than whimsy and fun I present you with this image of Julianne Moore as The Little Mermaid, with an assist from Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps.

It was part of an ad campaign for, duh, Disneyland shot by famed photog Annie Leibovitz.

This is a stunningly beautiful portrait that also captures the essence of The Little Mermaid longing to be part of the world above the sea.

After all everyone longs for something they don't have my minions...so we can all relate.

What is it you desire, tell me, I promise to keep it between us, pinky swear 👀

Fashion It's a Thing

Birds of a Feather
Julianne Moore & Elizabeth Banks
Continuing on with my weekend fashion posts I just had to bring you a photo op I enjoyed viewing from New York Fashion Week which is happening as I produce word vomit from my keyboard.

Behold one of my favorite actresses Julianne Moore with her beautiful sidekick Elizabeth Banks attending the Tom Ford fashion show. How's that for name dropping???

Julianne as you may recall, or not was in Tom Ford's film directing debut A Single Man. Elizabeth has not only been in all three Pitch Perfect movies and made her directorial debut on Pitch Perfect 2.

These two look like they are truly enjoying each others company and are up to no good.

Oh to be a fly on their designer clothes...mic drop!

Everybody Run, Julianne Moore Has A Gun!!!

Hands Up Or You Get Puffed!
Julianne Moore
WTF?! One of my favorite actresses armed herself recently on the British chat show TFI.

Yes, Julianne Moore was toting large with a gun, don't be too freaked out it shoots cheese puffs of all things. Will the wonders of technology ever cease?!

Moore is one of my favorite actresses having appeared in one of my favorite indie films of all time, Todd Haynes Safe.

I actually encountered her at a Rexall Drug Store in Los Angeles, CA  once upon a time and chatted with her briefly about my love of her and that particular movie, but I'll save that for my book.

With a resume' full of eclectic roles I guess now Julianne can add gunslinger to that list.

Have a "cheesy" Saturday

Julianne Moore Dishes On Madonna's "Body Of Evidence"

One Of These Women Is Not Like The Other: Julianne Moore & Madonna
Remember when Oscar Nominee, Julianne Moore starred in a film with Madonna? If you are a Madonna fan I am sure you do, if not a possible "maybe" is a logical assumption.

Once upon a time Madonna, in a Basic Instinct age decided she wanted to compete with the then hot Sharon Stone who played a clever murderess who used her brains and sex as a weapon in the hit movie.

Thus Body of Evidence was born. Being a big Madonna fan then, I saw it opening night. It's one of those "so bad it's entertaining" movies that you never get tired of watching. I even have the one sheet of poster art that was KO'd by the studio on the wall where I live, yeah a collectors item.

Ever wonder how she and Madge got on? Well wonder no Moore (yeah, that was a pun) - She recently appeared on Watch What Happens Live and Andy Cohen went for it!

Cohen inquired whether she was nervous slapping Madonna during one of their scenes, Julianne said: "I was actually super nervous. I actually didn't even make contact."

Moore continues, "It was a fake slap, but she wasn't talking to me because she was being very method-y,"she added "I felt nervous and scared. I didn't want to hit her at all."

Julianne also reveals, "She was playing the girlfriend and I was playing the wife and we were supposed to be enemies."

Hey Julianne hope you win the Academy Award for Still Alice!

You Will Know Her Name: "Carrie" 2013

Chloe Grace Moretz & Julianne Moore "Carrie"

"I was told I was too pretty for "Carrie" - Chloe Grace Moretz

That being stated, while some may still think that Ms. Moretz has made a career out of playing outsiders, much like her attractive Academy Award Nominated co-star Julianne Moore, so let's shove that shit theory out the window.

After all Chloe has portrayed a prepubescent expletive spewing assassin named Hit Girl in "Kick Ass" uttering such zingers as "Fuck you, c#nt" and a 12 year old vampire with a thing for a 12 year old boy in the American re-make of "Let The Right One In".

So get over the "pretty" thing and get past it, now.

When I initially heard about this project, I had some hope, I mean hey two of my favorite actresses in the leads and Directed by Kimberly Pierce of  "Boys Don't Cry" fame...I was excited! "Carrie" after all is a female story and with a strong female Director would give a quite provocative and Feminine twist on it. Translation, no gratuitous lawn scenes below the female waist, and teenagers who are not 25-30 years old.

And let's not forget bullying with updated technology.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Brian DePalma film, it's a classic for sure, but...

Margaret & Carrie White, Hitting the PR Trail
There is always something new and unique that can be done with everything in the correct hands.

With the release of the present full length trailer, I am way more cautious about the prospects of this adding anything that is truly new or necessary.

My problem? With the exception of a few twists, the scenes they show in the trailer look like an almost shot for shot remake of the original.

Please don't disappoint me and millions of other fans of the horror genre and the original. Don't let this turn out to be a piece of dreck redo like pretty much all the others.

Proceeding with caution at this point, so much so, it will have to get really good reviews to compel me to pay at the box office, if the reviews are unfavorable, I will wait for video, perhaps.

Check out the trailer and see what you think...

PS - MGM and Sony have definitely come up with a great marketing campaign, kudos.
