Bringing Up Baby

Oh Daddy!
Anderson Cooper
Look walking the streets of New York City, it's new Daddy Anderson Cooper stepping out no doubt to get some sustenance for his newly arrived son Wyatt Morgan Cooper.

That's correct Minions for all of you who always thought "Oh Daddy" when you saw Anderson, well now it's not just a euphemism, it's a literal fact!

His first child's name is a tribute to his late parents, Wyatt for his father, Wyatt Emory Cooper who passed when he was ten. Morgan a family name from his mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, who passed June of last year.

Even during a pandemic life keeps happening, and we keep living to the fullest day by day.

Wishing Daddy Anderson and baby Wyatt and all of you the best, seize the day Minions!

Silly Saturday

Give Me A High C!
Neil Patrick Harris & David Burtka
Remember the 1988 movie Big starring Tom Hanks? Of course you might, or perhaps not...but if you do you will understand why this image of Neil Patrick Harris and his husband David Burtka dancing on the iconic FAO Schwarz piano in NYC is giving me life today, Saturday November 17th 2018.

Now mind you I have a sense of whimsy from time to time other days too. But it isn't a regular occurrence, so revel in this magic moment minions.

With Thanksgiving next week and then Christmas just around the corner I felt a Silly Saturday was in order.

After all don't we all deserve it? Yes, yes we do!

Straight Edge

STRAIGHT EDGE:
A Clear-Headed Hardcore Punk History
by Tony Rettman

Deluxe 400-page softcover book with foreword by Civ of Gorilla Biscuits

This ain't no F#ckhouse!

This deluxe softcover runs 400 pages, features a foreword by Civ of Gorilla Biscuits, includes a full-color insert, and after is available HERE. This is the latest authoritative and exhaustive leap by Bazillion Points into the vast demi-world of a powerful DIY subculture. Launch events were mobbed at the Sonos NYC store, Bridge 9 Records in Boston, and Hold Fast Records in Asbury Park, NJ, where Tony Rettman sat for a riveting Q&A with Minor Threat's Brian Baker.

Starting in 1981 via Minor Threat's revolutionary call to arms, the clean and positive straight edge hardcore punk movement took hold and prospered during the 1980s, earning a position as one of the most durable yet chronically misunderstood music subcultures. Straight edge created its own sound and visual style, went on to embrace vegetarianism, and later saw the rise of a violent militant fringe. As the "don't drink, don't smoke" message spread from Washington, D.C., to Boston, California, New York City, and, eventually, the world, adherents struggled to define the fundamental ideals and limits of what may be the ultimate youth movement.

Tony Rettman traces the story of straight edge from adolescent origins to enduring counterculture via fresh first-hand accounts from the clear and alert members of Minor Threat, SS Decontrol, Youth of Today, DYS, Slapshot, Uniform Choice, 7 Seconds, Stalag 13, Justice League, Chain of Strength, No for an Answer, Insted, Gorilla Biscuits, Judge, Bold, Project X, Lärm, Brotherhood, Shelter, H2O, Half Off, Resurrection, Raid, Strife, Earth Crisis, Vegan Reich, Mindset, Stop and Think, Mouthpiece, Floorpunch, Ten Yard Fight, Mental, Fucked Up, Trial, Have Heart, Praise, Clear, the Geeks, and many others.

Time Out New York calls the book: "a trip through the storied history of the straight edge punk movement, from its origins in 1981 as a call-to-arms from the band Minor Threat to its later flourishing as a fully-fledged counter-culture manifesto."

QUOTES

"What separates hardcore from punk is that punk was just saying, 'fkck this place.' Hardcore was saying, 'let's make a difference. Let's make our minds stronger and focus.'"
- Toby Morse, H2O

"We were out to create a revolution. We loved the power and energy of hardcore, but not the whole self-destructive punk ethos. We were into being healthy and living clean, mean, and smart."
- John Porcelly, Youth of Today

"Straight edge became a religion. It's a very strange feeling to be one of the unwitting founders of this religion."
- Jeff Nelson, Minor Threat

"I'm honored to be part of this book, which accurately recalls a counterculture within a counterculture, a movement that changed the course of so many people's lives, including my own. Straight edge gave us some stable footing and handrails in a confusing time, and provided us a soundtrack of hard, positive, and life-affirming music to craft our progressive and positive adult lives. This book will serve as a crucial and authoritative glance into that world, shining light for fans around the globe on a time that we will never forget."
- Ray Cappo, Youth of Today

"I fxcking loved it! The SSD stuff was amazing, they were my game changer. I also really loved the Uniform Choice chapters. It's a great book. Tony Rettman has done it again, and I'm stoked to have a small part in it."
- Mike Ferraro, Judge

"I will look forward to having this on our coffee table and showing it and reading it with pride for my role in this beautiful movement, for what you've done and captured, and what straight edge was, is and will be."
- Dave Smalley of DYS/All/Dag Nasty

"Tony Rettman's book is THE CHOICE for a firsthand account of the history, inner workings, and real truth of straight edge, one of the most important cultural influences of the last century."
- Al Barile, SSD

"A fantastic read and a true documentation straight from the people who made this small scene an important piece of music history."
- Dennis Lyxzen, Refused

"I love this book! Everyone's stories are tied together to bring validity to the subject. Rettman covered a lot of ground here, and I'm impressed."
- Steve Larson, Insted

Just Because...Jennifer & Leah

Silly Selfie
Jennifer Lopez & Leah Remini
Just Because it's Friday, T.G.I.F people! Just Because they are BFF's and Just Because I love here show condemning Scientology - here are Jennifer Lopez and Leah Remini clowning around on the set of their movie Second Act in NYC.

These two are the best of friends photographed out and about by the paparazzi many a times. When they're together who knows what they'll decided to do? Who knows what they'll get up to? I'd love to know, wouldn't you?

Now that they are working together for the first time playing BFF's it should make for an interesting finished film.

On another note, I am a huge fan of Remini's series on A&E condemning Scientology, Scientology and the Aftermath now in it's second season. The show digs deep and living a stones throw away from the big blue "church" featured frequently on the program gives it a little more oomph for me.

Moving on have a gruesome weekend only 4 more days until Halloween, Silver Shamrock.

Just Because...Madonna

Got MDNA?
Madonna
Just Because she is the The Woman in Red, Just Because she launched new line of skin care & Just Because, Bitch she's Madonna - here is her Madgesty at Barney's in NYC to launch her new MDNA Skin Care line.

Yes, boys & girls it's finally here, Madonna's skin pampering must haves have hit the shelves and she was on hand looking smashing in red to launch that puppy.

My Instagram feed has been jammed with her and a commercial she did with that guy affectionately known as The Fat Jew

During the course of the ad Madonna compliments The Fat Jew telling him he has good skin. He in turn tells her, that her face is really symmetrical. A symmetrical face, eh? Yes, it is, and no one comes by that naturally, it's a lot of work.

Whatever! The Queen of Pop looks fabulous with her product smeared on her face. Also I think she should stick with the red, Just Because, red does a Madonna good.

Happy "Hump Day!"

Just Because...The Odd Couple

Father Figure?
Selena Gomez & Woody Allen
Just Because their in New York City. Just Because of the generation gap & Just Because she is the most followed person on Instagram I bestow upon you this photo of Selena Gomez being directed in New York by Woody Allen for his upcoming movie.

File This Under: Wonders Never Cease

Woody Allen is proof is you live long enough you can engage with all the age inappropriate women you want. He directed Miley Cyrus in an Amazon TV series and now he gets to put Selena Gomez through her paces for his latest cinematic foray.

Considering Allen's checkered past also makes this situation one for the book of Hollywood Curiosities.

That being stated I am sure Ms. Gomez can navigate murky waters just fine on her own.

Isn't the real question "What does Soon Yi think of this?"

Think about it, but not too much, OK?

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink

Colorful, As Always
Pink
Hey all you "Mean Girls" out there it's Wednesday, hope you have your pink on, while I am not wearing pink, I am bringing the pink as in Pink the singing superstar!

She was caught looking just as colorful as her namesake in New York City recently. Pink has been keeping a pretty low profile, but has been seen out and about and been performing more recently.

Cheers that she is planning something big and the world will become Pink and we just live in it.

We could all use some of her dynamic singing and performing again in these obtuse times.

It's Wednesday and I am definitely bringing my Pink game to the table.

Ciao!

Just Because...Drew Barrymore

Desperately Seeking Drew
Drew Barrymore
Behold a photo of Drew Barrymore out-n-about in New York City this past week. Seeing Drew these days is much like a Big Foot or Loch Ness Monster sighting, very rare. She has kept a low public profile in recent years, and been a more behind the scenes person than an in front of the camera one.

Seeing this image made me feel nostalgic for when Drew was everywhere, doing the Charlie's Angels movies and all those Rom-Coms. Not to mention appearing in and producing one of my fave films Donnie Darko. Now I didn't see any of her Rom-Coms with the exception of The Wedding Singer, which was actually good, but since I am not really a fan of the genre...

I've met Drew a handful of times in various situations which ranged from her shopping at Tower Records Sunset to an after party for Courtney Love and Hole post their Palladium concert. Each time she was such warm & welcoming a total sweetheart.

Here's hoping to see Drew raise her public profile again, the world needs all the positive energy it can get!

What Becomes A Punk Legend Most...

Max's Kansas City: 1976 & Beyond
coming to CD ad Vinyl on May 5th via Jungle Records

The original Max's Kansas City 1976 pioneering punk club album,
extended with an extra 30 tracks and historical notes

Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore
Max's Kansas City is the legendary New York City nightclub that became the focal point for the city's hip artistic community from the late 60's until the early 80's. In its initial period, it was famously often populated by Andy Warhol's Factory crowd, and played host to new artists such as the Velvet Underground, New York Dolls, the Stooges, Bruce Springsteen and countless others. It became a base for jet-setters, glam rockers and celebs, until the scene faded and it shut its doors at the end of 1974.
Reopened in 1975 under new management, Peter Crowley was hired as music director. The new young bands he booked helped spawn, in tandem with CBGBs, the New York City punk scene. In 1976 Peter compiled a studio album of acts associated with the club, Max's Kansas City 1976, to help promote the club. It featured the first released recordings of Suicide, The Fast and Warhol-era veteran Wayne County, whose title-track gave a roll-call of many of the famous acts who'd regularly performed there.

Now the original album is reissued as Max's Kansas City 1976 & Beyond, greatly extended to 40 tracks on a double-CD and a selection of 25 tracks on a double-LP. As well as the aforementioned Suicide, Fast and Wayne County, the new extended album features the New York Dolls, the Stillettos, the Offs, the Senders, Philip Rambow, VON LMO, Iggy Pop, Knots, Roland Alphonso, Cherry Vanilla, Nico, Joy Ryder, Johnny Thunders & the Heartbreakers and Sid Vicious amongst many others. It includes many previously unreleased tracks and rarities. Compiled by Peter Crowley, who also contributes notes detailing the history of the album. Writer, musician and Max's scenester Jimi LaLumia provides historical overview sleeve-notes along with biographies of the artists in a 20-page booklet.

Jimi LaLumia writes:

"Max's Kansas City 1976 as an expanded edition two record vinyl and double CD collection, celebrates the historic first compilation of recordings by bands that were making big noise in New York City, and, thanks to a hyper active UK music press, around the world in a pre internet, truly underground manner. Melody Maker, a British music weekly, was especially keen on the post Velvet Underground / New York Dolls / Alice Cooper / Iggy & The Stooges scene that was inspiring the most unusual creatures to want to be in bands.

The Max's album was my go to album for months; finally, tracks from Wayne County, Cherry Vanilla, and The Fast... Not to mention Suicide and Pere Ubu. I got introduced to Harry Toledo and the John Collins band: I won't go into all the details here, because I wrote extensive detailed liner notes for the Jungle Records UK re issue coming in May, with additional notes from Peter Crowley, which are worth the price of the album, not to mention all the added extra tracks, so I'll simply say that if you think you know everything about the late 70's downtown scene, some additional reading material and bonus tracks are headed your way."

What Comes Between You & Your Calvin's?

Nothing Comes Between Brooke & Her Calvin
Brooke Shields & Calvin Klein
Here is an image only a certain segment of the populace will understand the significance of. I present to you Brooke Shields and old friend Calvin Klein meeting up at Sirius XM in New York City

As you may or may not recall Klein did a series of racy ads featuring Brooke in 1981 for his line of jeans. Personally I loved the campaign where "nothing" came between Brooke and her Calvin's, it was total genius. Quite racy while being sexy without the use of gratuitous skin.

What's that you say? You've never heard or seen the scandalous TV spot? Well never fear that's why I'm here. Like I've pointed out so boastfully before I'm a giver and never want to leave anyone wanting. Thus you can view the ad below.

No need to thank me, you can just spank me.

I know you like to watch...

Fundamental Rights: Cyndi Lauper

Grrrrrrrrl Power!
Cyndi Lauper
It's official. Girls Just Want To Have Fundamental Rights!

Grammy, Emmy, and Tony Award-winning artist and activist Cyndi Lauper has designed and released her official “Girls Just Want To Have Fundamental Rights” t-shirt. Inspired by the menagerie of protest signs using this empowering slogan during the worldwide Women’s March that took place on January 21st, Cyndi has partnered with Omaze in honor of Women’s History Month to raise vital funding for Planned Parenthood and the True Colors Fund.

“As I marched down the streets of New York City in January amongst a beautiful array of people of every sex, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, and nationality, I was blown away to see so many people embracing the message of “Girls Just Want To Have Fundamental Rights’ on their handmade signs,” said Cyndi Lauper. “Seeing this anthem continue to empower so many people to speak out and get involved, I was inspired to find new ways to further spread this powerful message of equality and justice for all. I am hopeful that this t-shirt will raise much needed funds to support the important work of Planned Parenthood and the True Colors Fund.”

Cyndi’s official “Girls Just Want To Have Fundamental Rights” t-shirt is available starting today at www.omaze.com/fun and can be purchased for $25. A sweatshirt is also available for $39. The net proceeds from each t-shirt and sweatshirt sold will be donated to Planned Parenthood and the True Colors Fund.

About Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California
Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California (PPAC) is the statewide public policy office representing California’s seven Planned Parenthood affiliates. For more information about Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, please visit www.ppactionca.org.

About True Colors Fund
The True Colors Fund, co-founded by Cyndi Lauper, works nationally to end homelessness among lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth. In America, up to 40 percent of the 1.6 million youth that are homeless each year identify as LGBT. Yet, only seven percent of the general youth population is LGBT. The most cited reason for this disproportionate rate is family rejection due to the young person’s sexual orientation or gender identity. Through a broad continuum of advocacy, training & education, and youth collaboration programs, the True Colors Fund is creating a world in which all young people can be their true selves. Meow!

Welcome To The Litter
Sarah Michelle Gellar, Her Daughter Charlotte, Some Kid
& Cast Members From Cats
Happy Tuesday, let's get whimsical fer sure with this fun image of Sarah Michelle Gellar, her daughter Charlotte, cast members from Cats and a little boy she kidnapped in NYC...OK kidding about the child abduction, from the looks of it the boy is more than likely a friend of her daughters.

Anyway, yes they caught a matinee of Cats and it looks like they are having a good time playing kitty cat with the cast by making feline gestures. Now that's entertainment, correct???

Well I found it such that's why I'm subjecting you to this photo, and since I am a Buffy The Vampire Slayer geek I can never pass up posting a photo of Sarah Michelle and subjecting you to my wicked whims.

No word on whether anyone pictured coughed up a fur ball. Have your pussy's spayed or neutered, meow!

Heist Ho, Heist Ho
l-r Sarah Paulson, Rihanna & Sandra Bullock
We've made it to the middle, Happy Hump Day! To get you over "The Hump" I bring you an image of 3 women from the set of Ocean's Eight in New York City

The 3 women being Sarah Paulson, Rihanna & Sandra Bullock. Yes the gang is all here, literally since that is what the movie is about a gang of women who pull off a heist.

Will the finished product be a hit or a miss? Fingers crossed for the former rather than the later, with all the estrogen power they've got for this endeavor it would be a shame if it were wasted on anything less than an terrific escapist time at the movies.

Ciao and have a good one!

Happy F@#king 2017!

2017 Here We Come!!!
Ryan Seacrest & Jenny McCarthy
Tonight's the night we ring in the New Year, a night collectively referred to around the world as New Year's Eve

What are your plans tonight? Any traditions? Well whether my plans have been staying in or spending time with friends for it, Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve in Times Square, New York City has always been my go to show to the count down to midnight. I mean who can resist watching a ball drop slowly? Admit it you know you can't.

The only time I have never watched it was when the world rang in 2000. I was in a club with three levels that had different music themes, and yes I am going to stop there. That was the exception to this my otherwise steadfast unofficial tradition.

While things have changed over the years about the show it still remains the best way to rock in the upcoming year.

So, if I don't fall asleep before the clock strikes twelve on January 1st 2017, I plan to hang with Ryan Seacrest & Jenny McCarthy and a dropping ball with whoever else may be with me.

Let's hope 2017 errs on the side of good shall we?

Enjoy your NYE!

Puppy Love - Lady Gaga

Gaga, Koji, Miss Asia & The Pup With No Name
Oh that Lady Gaga and her intrepid Instagram ways. She just had to post a pic of herself and the latest addition to her family...a new puppy with no moniker just yet. Damn you woman name your dog before you post a public image of it! Diabolical!!!

Here is what Gaga had to say for herself:

I'm proud to announce we added a new member to the #JOANNE family 😇 I haven't named him yet but I call him both cowpig and moopig in the meantime! I chose him last moment because my best friend since I was 4 @booconnor Chef extraordinaire of @thepomeroynyc bought him, we didn't want them to be separated!

Purple Rain in NYC

On Topic
Lady Gaga
"Honey, I know, I know
I know times are changing
It's time we all reach out

For something new, that means you too" - Prince, Purple Rain

Recently Lady Gaga was snapped in NYC sporting a T-Shirt bearing tribute to the late great Prince. This is timely in many ways considering the outcome of this weeks Presidential Election, and I am sure that's the way Gaga intended it, so there!

Honestly last night was the first decent night's sleep since the debacle I have gotten.

The lyrics above from the song really hit home, especially now. Times they are a changing, we do need to reach out for something new. Time will tell how everything plays out, but one thing is for sure, we need to dust off our disappointment and come together and do the right thing by one another. Remember there is strength in unity and our own individual personal power. No one can take that away from us.

T.G.I.F! Have a terrific weekend!
