Film Buff Friday: Killer Nun

Never trust a Nun, unless she's flying...

FROM THE SECRET FILES OF THE VATICAN! Aging blonde-bombshell Anita Ekberg (La Dolce Vita, Pick-up Alley) gives a full-bodied performance as a sex-crazed sister with some seriously bad habits in the lurid cult classic Killer Nun. One of the most notorious 'nunsploitation' films, Killer Nun tells the sordid story of Sister Gertrude, a disturbed woman of the cloth who degenerates into a perverse mire of drug taking, sexual perversion, sadistic torture and murder. Joe Dallesandro (The Climber, Flesh for Frankenstein), Alida Valli (The Possessed, Suspiria) and the ample Paola Morra (Behind Convent Walls) offer spirited performances and able support to Ekberg, in this shocking tale based on real events. Boasting an incongruously classy score by legendary composer Alessandro Alessandroni (Women's Camp 119) and stylishly rendered scenes of sex and murder, Killer Nun takes the viewer on hair-raising journey from the heights of religious ecstasy to the depths of devilish degeneracy. Now Giulio Berruti's sleazy classic is presented in a stunning new 2K restoration, with a liturgy of new extras, ready to be preyed upon.

Film Buff Friday: Alice, Sweet Alice

About that time Brooke Shields got offed in a horror movie...
A young Brooke Shields meets an untimely end in this religious-themed proto slasher par excellence from director Alfred Sole. On the day of her first communion, young Karen (Brooke Shields) is savagely murdered by an unknown assailant in a yellow rain mac and creepy translucent mask. But the nightmare is far from over - as the knife-wielding maniac strikes again and again, Karen's bereaved parents are forced to confront the possibility that Karen's wayward sister Alice might be the one behind the mask. Bearing influences from the likes of Hitchcock, the then-booming Italian giallo film and more specifically, Nicolas Roeg's Don't Look Now, Alice, Sweet Alice is an absolutely essential - if often overlooked - entry in the canon of 1970s American horror.

Clap Back

I Got You Babe
Cara Delevingne & Ashley Benson
One of the best surprises in recent memory was the unexpected yet way cool coupling of Cara Delevingne & Ashley Benson. It was the twosome you never knew you needed until it happened.

Well they recently came under attack from a ridiculous, I mean religious zealot on Instagram and they both clapped back.

It's nice when a couple has each others backs...

Son Of A Preacher Man

Preaching: Just Say No
Tom Goss

Remember the classic tune, Son of a Preacher Man by the legendary Dusty Springfield? Well the song has just been turned on it's ass by singer/songwriter/actor/activist and all around cool guy Tom Goss.

The out, bear loving artist has given the familiar staple a powerful gay twist.

"A lot of gay men and women have been condemned by religious institutions. Our goal was to speak to that experience and show how destructive it can be.

We hope that this video reaches people, helps heal people, educates people and provides an outlet to help promote those who are doing so much to curb the pain.

Notably organizations like The Trevor Project and PFLAG."  States Goss

So without further fanfare stop, look and listen to his awesome take on an old hit!

Jennifer Lawrence "Growing Up In A Jesus House"

Actress & Friend Of Planned Parenthood
Jennifer Lawrence
Kudos to one of my favorite actresses and people, one Ms. Jennifer Lawrence for coming out in Glamour Magazine as a staunch supporter of Planned Parenthood

She had this to say to Glamour

"Planned Parenthood is so much more than an abortion provider," she continued. "My mom was really religious with me when I was young. She’s not so much anymore. And I wouldn’t have been able to get birth control if it weren’t for Planned P. I wouldn't have been able to get condoms and birth control and all these things I needed as a normal teenager who was growing up in a Jesus house."

Agreed. Planned Parenthood is so much more than a quick accidental pregnancy fix. It's about the health of women in general and is an essential part of our society.

2016 is a bold new year, let's approach it as such.

The Troops Honor Kid Rock

Rock On! Kid Rock & Mark Woods
OPERATION TROOP AID HONORS KID ROCK
WITH 2014 "PATRIOT AWARD"

I've always knew who Kid Rock was, a successful Rock Star who was in a relationship with one of my favorite people & interview subjects, Pamela Anderson. However I had never heard his music...

That was until my friend, publicist extraordinaire, Ken Phillips gave me one of his CD's. Listening to Kid Rock's music for the first time was a religious experience that made me a fan for life.

Well Ladies & Gentlemen it's time you know about his giving back to others who truly deserve your respect and gratitude, carry on...

Operation Troop Aid(OTA), a nonprofit organization which supports U.S. Troops, honored award-winning, multi-platinum selling humanitarian Kid Rock, last week in Nashville, Tennessee, with the 2014 Operation Troop Aid “Patriot Award.”

Presented annually by OTA to celebrities that champion the men and women serving in the American Armed Forces, the rock star was awarded the Eagle Trophy for his countless endeavors to support troops overseas and at local hospitals and for supporting numerous military charities. Well known for his role as an American Patriot, Kid Rock, has performed at various military bases and continues to meet military personnel at every concert appearance.

"Kid Rock is one of the most giving entertainers I have ever met,” says OTA founder and executive director Mark Woods.  "He really gets it…  Last year, Kid Rock challenged his fans to help raise money to send care packages to the troops.  In one short month, we were able to ship over 500 care packages just in time for the holidays. His art, legacy of family and Spirit of Patriotism is exactly why this award exists.”

Kid Rock joins past Patriot Award recipients Hank Williams Jr., Toby Keith, Darryl Worley, Aaron Tippin, Gary Sinise, Charlie Daniels, Mark Wills, and KISS.

About Operation Troop Aid:
Founded in 2004 by 21-year military veteran, Mark Woods, Operation Troop Aid provides entertainment initiatives and care packages for U.S. Service Members with revenue generated through professional concert promotions and public financial generosity. OTA is a nonprofit corporation striving to make a positive difference and inspire the Armed Forces by letting them know Americans stand with them. OTA is a certified IRS approved charity.

As an entertainment based charity, each year OTA selects and presents The OPERATION TROOP AID Patriot Award to an entertainer / artist that best exemplifies the spirit of Patriotic service to our Troops and Americanism in their art.  It does not necessarily reflect events in that year, as it may be a historical grouping of their achievements to promote our Troops and American Patriotism.  It is an award that embodies a sense of service, supporting our American Troops and an overall outlook of honoring our Constitution and promoting the Freedom that our Troops provide.
