Nothing Stays The Same

NOTHING STAYS THE SAME
The Story Of the Saxon Pub
coming to VOD, EST, and DVD on July 14TH

Winner! Best Music Doc - 2019 SXSW

For songwriters, Nashville has The Bluebird Cafe, Los Angeles has the Troubadour, and Austin has The Saxon Pub... A home for the likes of Wille Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Bonnie Raitt, Jerry Jeff Walker, Rodney Crowell,
Ray Wylie Hubbard, Stephen Bruton and many more.
Nothing Stays the Same celebrates the last 30 years of live music in Austin, Texas, while also examining the challenges faced by musicians and music venues in one of the fastest-growing and most popular cities in the country, all through the lens of the legendary Saxon Pub.

With iconic venues closing each year due to rising rents and property taxes in the Live Music Capital of the World, the writing is on the wall for the Saxon Pub, a mainstay in live music since 1990. Soon being forced to a new space - akin to closure for most clubs - its owner, its regulars and staff and its beloved musicians such as local luminaries Joe Ely, Bobby Whitlock, Bob Schneider, Patrice Pike, Guy Forsyth, Hector Ward, Carolyn Wonderland, The Resentments, Johnny Nicholas, W.C. Clark, Robynn Shayne and others, turn to face the music until they learn their fate might not be sealed after all.

Call it divine intervention or a stroke of good luck, the Saxon could live to see another day if it plays its cards right...

"...a really beautifully done doc...an outstanding film" - Louis Black, SXSW Co-Founder

Universal in its appeal...as noted in the Austin Chronicle, "There is still something universal about the challenges facing (Saxon) owner/manager Joe Ables and all the regulars - onstage and in the audience", mirroring a  situation found in cities across America (Seattle, San Francisco, Denver, Brooklyn, etc) rising rents, property taxes and gentrification of arts districts and the downtown result in clubs closing and artists and musicians being forced to move out of town.

In 2019, Nothing Stays the Same made its world premiere at SXSW and was the "Audience Award Winner" in the 24 Beats Per Second categories. It also won "Best Texas Film" at the 2019 Hill Country Film Festival. That same year the film was nominated for "Best Texas Independent Film" by the Houston Film Critics Society and was an official selection of the Dallas International Film Festival and the Lost River Film Festival.

"...both an exceptional document of a unique Austin venue, anchored by remarkable live footage and artist interviews, and a treatise on maintaining a city's values and priorities amid rapid growth." - Doug Freeman, Austin Chronicle

"Jeff Sandmann's SXSW 2019 Audience Award-winning documentary is just as much a tribute to Austin's musicians as it is to the legendary live music venue established almost 30 years ago in the state capital of Texas." - Joe Friar, Houston Film Critics Society

The Mania Continues: ONA

Smells Like ONA Spirit!

ONA gets N-A-K-E-D...!!!
Pop seductress ONA is treating fans to a visual feast with the launch of 20 scorching-hot music videos to promote her upcoming full-length album, ONAMANIA, out June 8th.

Capitalizing on her passionate fan base of over 1.5 million Instagram followers, ONA will stimulate support of ONAMANIA’s sultry songs by unveiling NSFW music videos throughout 2018 as upsells to her mainstream SFW videos.

The Brooklyn-based singer’s videos are similar - most of the NSFW videos were shot in the same location and with the same costuming as their partner SFW videos, but the NSFW versions include nudity.

While the regular SFW videos will be posted online to ONA’s exclusive YouTube channel OnaArtist, the star’s NSFW music videos will be available for purchase at her Video-on-Demand website, OnaPrime.com, launching mid-April.

ONA’s new fan site will also include her large archive of NSFW Snap stories and full live video recordings of each of her ten shows from her NSFW Undisclosed Location Tour, kicking off March 13 at the legendary SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas.

In addition, fans can find the original nine videos from ONA’s debut five-song EP Sex Rock on her YouTube Channel as well. One of her racy videos, banned from YouTube for inappropriate content, can be found at OnaPrime.com.

The singer’s 10-song debut album, co-produced by ONA and KB2, a production team based in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York, will continue in the musical vein of Sex Rock - hard-driving rock, lush bedroom ballads, dirty grind funk, and epic orchestral pop.

ONA’s camgirl aesthetic and unique music monetization approach to performance videos and touring recently got her featured on Viceland’s Slutever, a show dedicated to profiling alt forms of American sexuality.

A trailer for ONA’s Viceland segment, “Independent Cam Girl Ona Artist on Personal Success,” can be seen here: Viceland.com/slutever-independent-cam-girl-ona-artist-on-personal-success.

ONAMANIA

Never Fear ONA is Here!

Let the mania commence!
Sultry singing sensation ONA is set to kick off her ‘Undisclosed Location’ tour in support of her forthcoming debut album, ONAMANIA, launching March 13th in Austin, Texas at SXSW Music Festival.

The tour will spotlight the sizzling star in a very provocative stage show across the U.S., an innovative ‘virtual concert’ model that is just one part of ONA's overall revolutionary NSFW music monetization lifestyle. Her second tour date is scheduled for March 24 in Hawaii, with further dates to be added throughout 2018.

The singer’s debut album, co-produced by ONA and KB2, a production team based in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York, will be released on June 8 and continue to explore the various musical forms touched on in ONA’S 2016 EP Sex Rock - hard-driving rock, lush bedroom ballads, dirty grind funk, and epic orchestral pop.

ONA is quickly becoming a major media phenomenon, and she’ll be capitalizing on her momentum by spending the year traveling - a year-long road trip across America digitally broadcasting photos, videos and a live show to her 1.5 million+ fans via Snapchat, Instagram Live and her personal webcam.

On the night of each tour date ONA will perform songs from ONAMANIA via Instagram Live, and then she'll perform the rest of the album for ticket holders at a private (NSFW) webcam link - a night of chatting, dancing, stripping and a happy ending for ONA (and hopefully her fans).

Tickets are available for purchase at onamania.com.

The Horror: Child Eater

Nom, Nom, Nom, Nom...

Based on the popular short film with the same name, Child Eater is the directorial debut of Erlingur Thoroddsen and is a creepy, stylish roller-coaster ride inspired by the classic horror films of the 1980's.The deal was negotiated by Eric D. Wilkinson for MVD Entertainment Group and Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz for Boulderlight Pictures on behalf of the filmmakers.

In Child Eater, little Lucas (Colin Critchley) goes missing from his bedroom in the middle of the night, his babysitter Helen (Cait Bliss) ventures out into the deep, dark woods armed only with a flashlight. But these are no ordinary woods. They were once the home of Robert Bowery (Jason Martin), a serial killer who years ago came for children's eyes in order to keep himself from going blind. But Robert Bowery was stopped and killed... or was he?

Originally conceived as an award nominated short at SXSW back in 2012, producer Perri Nemiroff shares her excitement in turning it into a full length feature film and it's 1980's horror inspiration: "Having grown up in the 80s, we're undeniably influenced by classic slashers like Freddy, Jason and Michael Myers, and also the tone of their respective films, particularly their ability to deliver powerful scares, but exhilarating and enjoyable ones, too. Child Eater is bigger, badder and scarier and really gave us the chance to subvert genre tropes and truly show horror fans things they've never seen before."

Following its World Premiere at the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival that boasted sold out screenings (a second late night screening was added which was sold out as well) in addition to winning four awards at the Fantastically Horrifying Cinema Festival (including Best Film, Best Cinematography and Best Actress), MVD Entertainment Group picked up the film for North American distribution. MVD's Director of Acquisitions, Eric D. Wilkinson, expressed his excitement about the film: "Like the filmmakers, I too grew up on 80's horror and immediately fell in love with this movie. Robert Bowery is every bit as scary as Freddy Kruger and in some ways, even more so. After fans watch this film I'm willing to bet they will be sleeping with their closet lights on!"

MVD Entertainment Group has scheduled Child Eater for release on March 28th via VOD, Digital and DVD.

The DVD can be ordered at the MVD Shop or on Amazon

Shot By Shot: Raiders!

Taking fandom to the 8th dimension and several other places...Raiders!!!

The true tale of three childhood friends and their ambitious quest to complete a
shot-for-shot remake of Raiders of the Lost Ark arrives with hours of bonus content

"A valentine to movies, to being a kid, and to not being told what you can and can't do."
- Flavorwire

"A movie for anyone who has dreamed, been knocked down, and dared to dream again."
- The Playlist

"Captures the lunacy and love of fandom and friendship."
- The Guardian

Drafthouse Films and MVD Entertainment have announced the upcoming home video release of Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made on Blu-ray/DVD combo pack on August 16th.

After Steven Spielberg's classic Raiders of the Lost Ark was released 35 years ago, three 11-year-old boys from Mississippi set out on what would become a 7-year-long labor of love and tribute to their favorite film: a faithful, shot-for-shot adaptation of the action adventure film, which the New York Times calls "a testament to the transporting power of movie love." They finished every scene...except one; the film's explosive airplane set piece.

Over two decades later, the trio reunited with the original cast members from their childhood in order to complete their masterpiece in what IGN has dubbed "the Boyhood of fan movies." Featuring interviews with John Rhys Davies, Eli Roth and more, Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made is just that: the story of this long-gestating project's culmination, chronicling the friends' dedication to their artistic vision-mixed in with some movie magic-to create a personal, epic love letter to a true modern classic, in "a triumphant, feel-good documentary of the highest caliber that dares you to dream" (Cut Print Film).
                                                                Raiders!
                                                                  Trailer

Tim Skousen & Jeremy Coon's critically-acclaimed documentary (Certified Fresh by Rotten Tomatoes with a 93% rating and an Audience Score of 92%) premiered at SXSW in 2015 and enjoyed a healthy festival campaign before it's debut in theaters and On Demand. At the same time, film subjects Chris Strompolos and Eric Zala embarked on the multi-city Follow Your Dreams Tour (co-sponsored by Drafthouse Films, Fatboy, Roadtrippers and Last Exit to Nowhere), presenting Skousen and Coon's film alongside their rarely-screened Adaptation, which will continue into September.

Special features include more than four hours on bonus content such as dual audio commentary tracks (with Skousen & Coon as well as Strompolos & Zala), deleted scenes from the documentary, outtakes from the Adaptation, Q&A footage from the Adaptation's 2003 premiere at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, TX, a photo booklet featuring storyboard art from the Adaptation and a free HD digital copy of the film.

Watch This "Damned" Documentary

You know the old adage: Damned if  you do, Damned if you don't?
Carry on then!

Featuring Chrissie Hynde, Dave Gahan, Lemmy, Mick Jones, Billy Idol and more...

After packing cinemas and collecting rave reviews around the world, THE DAMNED: Don't You Wish That We Were Dead is coming to home video on May 20th.

Hailed as "excellent" by Uncut, "fascinating" by The Arts Desk, and "funny, fast-moving and gloriously chaotic" by The Hollywood Reporter, the film was directed/produced by Wes Orshoski, and is the first fully authorized documentary on punk pioneers The Damned.

Ireland's Hot Press raves: "Orshoski came onto our radar with the acclaimed Lemmy documentary in 2011 [which he co-directed/produced] and has once again created a tour de force, presenting an entertaining and searingly honest depiction of the grievously overlooked punk legends."

Filmed around the globe over three years, and world-premiered at SXSW 2015, THE DAMNED: Don't You Wish That We Were Dead tells the story of the third prong in the holy trinity of U.K. punk. In advance of both the Sex Pistols and the Clash, The Damned was the first U.K. punk band to release a single (1976's immortal "New Rose"), the first to release an album ('77's frenetic Damned Damned Damned), and the first to tour America (planting their flag at CBGB in April 1977). Now in their 39th year, The Damned are the only band from London's 1976 Punk Rock Big Bang still touring the world today.

In addition to Damned founders Captain Sensible, Dave Vanian, Rat Scabies and Brian James, the film includes appearances by such one-time bandmates as The Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde, Mick Jones (The Clash) and Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead, as well as such rock and/or punk luminaries as Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols), Steve Diggle (Buzzcocks), JJ Burnel (The Stranglers), Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode), Billy Idol, Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat/Fugazi), Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys), Keith Morris (Black Flag/Circle Jerks/OFF!), Dexter Holland (The Offspring), Jack Grisham (T.S.O.L.), and more.

Taking its name from the title-track of the Damned's 1979 album, Machine Gun Etiquette, the film charts the band's unique history, bitter infighting and legendary bad behavior (drummer Scabies is blamed for creating punk's "gobbing," or spitting, phenomenon); it takes viewers into the toilets once scrubbed by Captain Sensible and viewers follow the Damned on their world-wide 35th anniversary tour in 2011 -- with estranged band founders Scabies and James seen on screen answering that trek with a snarling celebration of their own. In a bizarre twist of fate, other former members find themselves being treated for the same form of cancer by the same doctor in the same Welsh cancer ward; elsewhere, the band's founding members are seen grappling with their legacy, and the fallout from missed and/or bungled business decisions that have kept them painfully working class for most of the past four decades.

                                                          "Damned" Trailer

The Arts Desk: "Where many music documentaries have a similar dynamic arc-rise, fall, rise again-Don't You Wish That We Were Dead is a fascinating, rambling saga that emanates a rich, sometimes morose, sense of what it's really like to have a whole life defined by the oh-so-brief explosion that was punk rock."

In the bonus features, Captain Sensible takes viewers on a tour of Croydon, the south London town that gave rise to the Damned, and he busks on the streets of Hollywood with actor/musician/comedian Fred Armisen, a huge Damned fan. Elsewhere, the full story of the band's involvement and eventual ousting from the Sex Pistols' fabled Anarchy in the U.K. tour of 1976 is told in detail for the first time.

In the film, The Damned is credited with helping to ignite the punk scene in America. In 1977, the Damned were the first of the U.K. punks to play in both New York (at CBGB) and Los Angeles (at the Starwood).

In 2010, The Huffington Post's Binky Phillips recalled the band's U.S. debut at CBGB in early April 1977: "I was down at CBGB with a chip on my shoulder. My town was Punk Ground Zero.... I was, in fact, without a struggle, reduced to fan boy within 30 seconds. It was as if the entire evening proceeding them had been in black and white and suddenly we were thrust into Technicolor Oz."

The Damned kick off a West Coast tour in April, which includes two appearances at Coachella (April 16 & 23), as well as stops in San Francisco (April 14, Great American Music Hall); Solana Beach, CA (April 19, Belly Up); Pomona, CA (April 20, The Glass House); and Los Angeles (April 21, The Roxy).

The band officially kicks off its 40th anniversary tour on May 20 with a sold-out gig at The Royal Albert Hall in London.

Because Sharing Is Caring "Hired Gun"

My buddy Bam Bam Stegall who is married to one of my dear friends Karen Castricher-Stegall recently did an interview with Hired Gun Director Fran Strine. The documentary had it's premiere at SXSW.

This piece of truth is finding a common bond between regular working-class 'Joe's' and the working-class musician. It's pretty much a rock scene take on 20 Feet From Stardom starring my friend Darlene Love.

I love music and can't wait to see this Bam Bam

Cut to his awesome interview after the jump!

Lick it up with Bam Bam Stegall at:

It's documentary time boys & girls!

JACO, A full-length documentary film chronicling the life, music and ongoing influence of the mythic electric bass pioneer Jaco Pastorius, is being released on DVD/BluRay on Nov. 27, 2015. Produced by Robert Trujillo (bassist, Metallica) JACO incorporates interviews with musical visionaries including Sting, Joni Mitchell, Flea, Jerry Jemmott, Bootsy Collins, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Carlos Santana and many others with never-before-seen photos and films from the Pastorius family archive. The DVD / BluRay release is a two-disc set. Disc 1 is the film and Disc 2 Features bonus material: 30 never before seen interviews with Joni Mitchell, Carlos Santana, Bootsy Collins and many more. They talk about Jaco's incredible contributions to music, how he changed the instrument as well as musical boundaries, and also Jaco the person.
