An Exclusive Quickie With "The Pretty Reckless"

Their Here, They're Reckless, Get Used To It!
Photo: Rob Fenn
It's been a big week for The Pretty Reckless. Their album Who You Selling For came out this past Friday. The first single off of it Take Me Down is the #1 song on the Billboard Rock Chart this week! Making four number ones for the band in a row! Woot

Frontwoman Taylor Momsen & Guitarist Ben Phillips took time out from their crazy schedule to answer five "quickie" questions for Entertain Me. Get ready to go "Reckless!"
MS: "Who You Selling For" definitely encompasses a lot of soul blues & rock-n-roll.  Was that an organic direction or a chosen one for the two of you?

TPR: It's always organic.  We don't have any pre conceived notions for the music.  The inspiration of songwriting dictates the direction.  We are slaves to the muse.

MS: You guys co-write all the songs. Give some insight to your writing process.

TPR: It's everything and nothing.  We basically isolate ourselves and live life looking for anything that inspires us.  Writing is an all consuming mistress, it's our favorite thing to do

MS: Do you ever write solo or is it always a collaborative process?

TPR: Sometimes ideas come together, sometimes we bring them to each other, there is no set method to the madness

MS: Why the name The Pretty Reckless?

TPR: Because The Moderately Reckless was taken ;)

MS: If you were stranded in the forest with only three albums to listen to what would you choose?

TPR: The White Album, Abbey Road and Revolver/Rubber Soul by The Beatles.

Kiefer Sutherland's "Hole" Is Out!

Get "Down In A Hole"
w/Kiefer Sutherland
Photo: Beth Elliott
Kiefer Sutherland’s debut album DOWN IN A HOLE, a passion project chock-full of 11 co-written tracks, is available now at all digital retailers and wherever music is sold! A special edition vinyl LP is also available exclusively at Barnes & Noble (click here to order online).

Sutherland is everywhere as he promotes DOWN IN A HOLE,including a guest appearance and musical performance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” August 24. He’ll perform “Can’t Stay Away,” which recently premiered on CMT’s Hot 20 Countdown (click here to watch).

DOWN IN A HOLE is also featured in People, Billboard, Huffington Post, Entertainment Weekly, Washington Post, Rolling Stone, Wall Street Journal, Guitar Player, The Boot, Vice/Live Nation TV, Closer Weekly, US Weekly, Sounds Like Nashville, Nashville Country Club, Taste of Country, The Pickup, Paste, Bella Magazine, Celebrity Page, Consequence of Sound, Associated Press and more!

Sutherland will also be on the cover of upcoming cover issues of Guitar Aficionado and Goldmine Magazine.

Reviewers are applauding Sutherland’s vocals, guitar licks and songwriting style:

“Kiefer Sutherland...slows down and unwinds on his debut album, a collection of 11 rough-edged country songs…The album has an unexpected, unvarnished authenticity that is pleasant, if sometimes familiar.”
-Jill Lawless, Associated Press

“Kiefer Sutherland’s new album DOWN IN A HOLE casts the popular actor in the role of talented songwriter/musician, something as unexpected as a 24 plot twist. His voice and original material are strong, begging the question, “Kiefer, what took you so long?”
-Mike Ragogna, Huffington Post

“Highlighted by his gravelly, whiskey-soaked growl, 49-year-old Kiefer Sutherland’s debut set of electric guitar–enhanced Southern rockers and smoky barroom ballads fares better than most other actors’ first releases.”
-Ian Drew, US Weekly

“The perfect soundtrack for your Americana, dive bar road trip, “All She Wrote” starts off with an intro that would sound right at home during the duel scene in a modern western. Sutherland’s gritty vocals overlap electric guitar and crashing drums…”
-Kat Harlton, Lithium Magazine

“This record is the closest thing I’ve ever had to a journal or diary. All of these songs are pulled from my own personal experiences. As much as I have enjoyed the writing and recording process, I am experiencing great joy now being able to play these songs to a live audience, which was something I hadn’t counted on,” Sutherland said of DOWN IN A HOLE.

Sutherland recently wrapped up a North American tour where he sold out venues across the U.S. and Canada. Additional dates for this fall will be announced soon.

Got Hole? Kiefer Sutherland

Somewhere, down in a hole....

Kiefer Sutherland’s soulful baritone vocals and guitar licks continue to captivate audiences with his second music video, “Can’t Stay Away,” premiering exclusively this weekend during CMT’s Hot 20 Countdown. The track is the latest release from Sutherland’s debut album Down In A Hole, which will be released August 19 by Warner Music Nashville/Ironworks Music. Down In A Hole will be available for pre-order August 5. Click here to download “Can’t Stay Away.”

Sutherland, who co-wrote every song on the upcoming 11-track album with producer Jude Cole, including “Can’t Stay Away,” just wrapped up a North American tour that included sold-out dates across the U.S. and Canada.

“We wanted the biggest look for the premiere of Kiefer Sutherland’s new song and video “Can’t Stay Away!”

“We wanted the biggest look for the premiere of Kiefer Sutherland’s new song and video!” said Leslie Fram, CMT Senior VP of Music Strategy.

“CMT’s Hot 20 Countdown has a weekly large, loyal base of country music fans who want to see what’s hot and new. “Can’t Stay Away” captures the live, intimate, real and raw essence of what Kiefer has been doing on the road, playing small towns and small clubs. Undeniable!’ Fram added.

CMT’s Hot 20 Countdown airs Saturdays and Sundays at 9a/8c.

Earlier this year Sutherland gave fans a taste of his songwriting notebook when he released the pedal-steeled “Not Enough Whiskey.”

“This record is the closest thing I’ve ever had to a journal or diary. All of these songs are pulled from my own personal experiences. There is something very satisfying about being able to look back on my own life, good times and bad, and express those sentiments in music. As much as I have enjoyed the writing and recording process, I am experiencing great joy now being able to play these songs to a live audience, which was something I hadn’t counted on,” Sutherland said of Down In A Hole.

Sutherland, an Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actor, is known for his starring role on the Fox series "24," starring roles in movies like ‘Stand By Me,’ ‘The Lost Boys,’ ‘Young Guns,’ Flatliners,’ and many more. Sutherland’s upcoming ABC series “Designated Survivor” premieres this fall on ABC.
