In Its Second & Final 2021 In-Person Concert of the Series,

Sunday Afternoon Concerts in the Dome,

Held Inside the Iconic Dome of the 100” Telescope

Sunday, September 5, 2021

Performances at 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM

Mount Wilson Observatory, the scientific marvel in the mountains above Pasadena, announces the second, and final, Sunday Afternoon Concerts in the Dome under the magnificent vaulted dome of the historic 100-inch telescope. The sublime Lounge Art Ensemble will return on Sunday, September 5, 2021, with two concerts at 3:00 and 5:00 PM. Led by Weather Report drummer extraordinaire Peter Erskine, this exceptional jazz trio features saxophonist Bob Sheppard and bassist Darek Oles. Offering a freewheeling selection of standards and original tunes in the observatory’s unique and historic venue, the performances will be acoustic, without amplification, promising that the full tonality of the instruments, and the dynamic control these musicians possess, will be fully appreciated by the audience. Tickets cost $50 each and are available for purchase online in advance (highly recommended) or at the door, given availability. As in the previous three years of the series, Artistic Director Cécilia Tsan, herself an award-winning cellist, curates. For more information on Sunday Afternoon Concerts in the Dome, please visit https://www.mtwilson.edu/events.

There will be an artist’s reception at 4:00 PM between each concert’s hour-long session. In addition, concert-goers will be treated to an exhibition featuring rare scientific artifacts, drawings, and illustrations from the Observatory’s collection. Seating inside the historic dome is limited. Concert attendees must be fully vaccinated. Children under age 12 are not permitted. There is no ADA-compliant access.

All proceeds go to support the Mt. Wilson Institute in its mission to preserve, protect and promote the Observatory and the accomplishments there. Poised for rediscovery, the grounds of the legendary observatory—founded in 1904 by astrophysical pioneer George Ellery Hale—are open for free to the public year-round. A Christmas "Serenad3"

The Serenad3,

Americas

Newest and Most Talented Trio, to

Release Debut Album,

Christmas Serenade on November 24th

The Serenad3 (pronounced The Serenade) is the magnificent new trio who will be releasing their premiere album, Christmas Serenade, just in time for the holidays. So many favorites are on their album, including Little Drummer Boy, Silent Night, Carol of the Bells and many more cherished tunes.

Accompanied on some of the tracks includes music impresario David Foster, the incomparable Gloria Estefan, pop star Pia Toscano and the amazing a cappella group Voctave.

The three multi-talented members of The Serenad3, Fernando Varela, Craig Irvin and Devin Eatmon, each have an incredible body of work, along with wide-ranging interests and hobbies.

The Serenad3

The story behind Fernando Varela begins and ends with a voice. A voice tells the tale of a breathtaking tenor whose spirit and determination has defied the odds. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Fernando moved to Florida at the age of eight, and while he always loved music it was not until he was seventeen that he discovered the impressive talent he had within him. Fernando trained with some of opera’s renowned classical icons and tours worldwide with Grammy Award-Winning producer David Foster. Fernando can also be seen featured on David Foster’s recently released all-new PBS Special. He has also performed amongst some legendary superstars including Lionel Richie, Sarah Brightman, Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle, Jewel, The Beach Boys, Steven Tyler, and Josh Groban. He’s been married for 12 years to a beautiful soprano, Susan Williams, and is the father to two boys: Jarron and Zeke.  In addition to being Is an avid golfer, Fernando coaches Zeke’s travel ball baseball team where they’ve enjoyed several major tournament wins.  Being fortunate to have been raised within a large close-knit family, Fernando always puts family first. When he isn't touring worldwide, he drives carpool, loves every minute of coaching baseball, and with the little time left over, tries to work on his golf game.

Craig Irvin brings a vibrant sound and commitment to every performance. Opera News has hailed his “rich, resonant baritone” while Opera Wire says that “watching a performer like Craig Irvin up close only adds to the thrill of hearing him sing”. Craig has performed with many of the best opera companies in the country, including Chicago Lyric, LA Opera, Minnesota Opera, Philadelphia Opera, and Atlanta Opera. Craig’s performance schedule usually keeps him on the road at least six months of the year, so Craig and his wife Joelle have decided to live surrounded by family when he is home.  Craig and Joelle raise their three children, a ten-year-old son and their seven-year-old twins (a boy and a girl!), surrounded by their family in Waukee, Iowa, where Craig grew up.  They even decided to buy a house a block away from Craig’s parents.  They joke that they’re living a musical version of “Everybody Loves Raymond”.

Devin Eatmon is a tenor from Ocala, Florida. His performance history includes being a Resident Artist of the Central Florida Lyric Opera during 2013-2015, a Studio Artist at Opera in the Ozarks, (summer 2015), and summers at Aspen Music Festival (2018-2019). With a bachelor's and a master’s degree in voice performance from Florida State University, Devin studied under the tutelage of former San Francisco Opera starting bass-baritone, David Okerlund. In light of more recent events, Devin had accepted a contract offer to be a member of the Apprentice Singer Program at The Santa Fe Opera, 2020 (Season canceled due to Covid-19). Currently, Devin lives in Denver performing as an artist-in-residence for Opera Colorado’s 2020-2021 season.  Devin has a wide range of interests, first and foremost is spending time with his friends, along with a great ribeye steak (medium-rare, please), drawing, and fishing but singing on stage is his favorite. Interestingly, Devin has such a versatile range of talents that he almost didn’t take the path to become a singer. Before he discovered his passion for singing, he was pursuing a career in golf as a junior tour player. What he loves about golf is the personal connection it has with both his father and his sister. They all enjoy playing and it’s become one of their favorite bonding activities. For that reason, golf will always have a very special place in his heart.

The new Christmas album, Christmas Serenade, will be released on November 24, 2020, and will be available on all of your favorite music outlets including Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, Amazon Music, and many more.

TBT: 1 + 1 + 1 = Trio

We Three Queens
Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris & Linda Ronstadt
You can't keep a good threesome down

Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris have premiered a new lyric video for an unreleased alternate version of “Wildflowers.” The Parton-penned track, which was originally released on their 1987 collaboration Trio, is featured on the upcoming three-CD set THE COMPLETE TRIO COLLECTION. The video can be viewed here and the track is also available now at digital retailers.

Parton, Ronstadt, and Harris have three careers unparalleled in music history. Together they have sold over 200 million albums worldwide and performed for decades in front of countless fans around the globe. It’s no surprise that when their three voices united to release their debut collaboration, the results were remarkable. The threesome released two albums together, Trio (1987) and Trio II(1999), which have combined to sell more than five million copies worldwide and win three Grammy® Awards.

Both of these classic albums have been newly remastered for a three-CD collection packed with rare and unreleased music. Produced by Harris, THE COMPLETE TRIO COLLECTION will be available on September 9 for a list price of $29.98.

On the same date, a single-disc set will also be available entitled MY DEAR COMPANION: SELECTIONS FROM THE TRIO COLLECTION, featuring a mix of songs taken from the three-disc set, as will FARTHER ALONG, a double-LP set of all the bonus material from THE COMPLETE TRIO COLLECTION. Trio II will also be released on vinyl for the first time.

Even though Parton, Ronstadt, and Harris began recording together in the 1970s, a full album proved elusive. When the stars aligned and the friends were finally able to record a full album, a powerhouse sound of country and Americana was born. The results were remarkable. Trio arrived in 1987; sold more than four million copies; won two Grammy Awards; and topped the country album chart for five consecutive weeks. Among the standout tracks are “To Know Him Is to Love Him,” “Wildflowers,” and “Farther Along.”

It would be more than a decade before the group released a follow-up, but when Trio II arrived in 1999 it did not disappoint. The album won a Grammy Award and peaked in the Top Five of the country album chart. It sold more than one million copies worldwide on the strength of tracks like “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind?” the Carter family’s “Lover’s Return” and a cover of Neil Young’s “After The Gold Rush.”

The bonus disc is loaded with 20 songs, including alternate takes of album tracks like “I’ve Had Enough,” “Making Plans” and “My Dear Companion.” Also featured are 11 completely unreleased recordings from the trio spanning both album sessions including “Waltz Across Texas Tonight,” “Pleasant As May,” “Are You Tired of Me,” and the gospel standard “Softly And Tenderly.” Among the unreleased material is also an alternate version of “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind?” featuring Parton on lead vocals and a stunning acapella version of “Calling All My Children Home.”
