The Man Who Discovered Bob Dylan...

Folklore in the City
Izzy Young "Talking Folklore Center"
Coming to DVD on August 14th

The man who discovered Bob Dylan returns to Greenwich Village
to revisit the Folklore Center days...

Izzy Young? Find out...

Izzy Young was the guru of American folk music. In this documentary covering his legendary Folklore Center in New York Izzy meets with friends and collaborators like Pete SeegerAllen GinsbergThe FugsMayor Ed Koch to reminisce. It includes unique archival footage and folk music from the 1960s.

Young is credited with playing a crucial role in the rise of folk music in the 1960s, and with catapulting a young Bob Dylan to stardom by arranging his first proper concert, at Carnegie Chapter Hall, in 1961. He opened Izzy Young's Folklore Center on MacDougal Street in New York's Greenwich Village in 1959. It became a focal point for the American folk music scene of the time, a place where one could find such limited circulation publications as Caravan and Gardyloo. From 1959 to 1969, Young wrote a column entitled "Fret and Frails" for the folk music journal Sing Out. He served on the "editorial advisory board" for the magazine until his departure for Sweden a few years later.

Young arranged concerts with folk musicians and songwriters, who often made contacts with other musicians at the Folklore Center. Bob Dylan relates in his memoirs, Chronicles, how he spent time at the Center, where Young allowed him to sit in the backroom of the store, listening to folk music records and reading books. Dylan met Dave Van Ronk in the store, and Young produced Dylan's first concert at Carnegie Chapter Hall in New York City on Saturday, November 4, 1961.

"I broke my ass to get people to come," Young said in a recent interview with Tablet. "Only 52 people showed up but about 300 people remember being there. Everyone wants to say they were there. You understand?"

Dylan wrote a song about the store and Young entitled "Talking Folklore Center".

Who You Gonna Call?

Wonder if They Will Get Slimed?!

T.G.I.F! Here is the cast of the new Ghostbusters in uniform. Pretty standard as were the ones in the original.

The new all female cast, in case you didn't know already includes: Melissa McCarthy, Kristin Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.

OK, is there anyone out there who feels this film like so much else in Hollywood is an unnecessary reboot, remake, or however the Hell you want to refer to it?

Honestly the only thing that would compel me to see this are McCarthy and Wiig and some bomb ass reviews to go along with it.

But, hey it's the weekend and I'm a giver and thought people, like myself would be curious to see the gang together and ready to bust some ghost ass!

Yep, it's all about fun!

Cast Your Vote For: "A History of Radness"

The Banner Says It All: Radness!
I got this message from one of my favorite people last night, Juliet Green, about her brother, Andrew Green and his Amazon show "A History of Radness."

This show is really entertaining and will not disappoint! So watch and vote - give it five stars while you're at it.

Read Ms. Green's heartfelt message below:

I hope you are having a great summer!
My brilliant brother, Andrew Green has written and produced a comedy pilot for Amazon. It’s a really terrific kids show called "A History of Radness.” It’s fresh, original, has a fabulous cast and some great music.
It's available to watch for free on Amazon (you don't need Amazon Prime) RIGHT NOW. The more people who watch, the better chance it has of being picked up for series. If you like it (and, as I said it's terrific so of course you’ll like it), give it a whole bunch of stars (really important to do) and please spread the word. This week is critical for voting!
Don’t worry if you don’t have Amazon on your TV - simply click on this link you can watch it right now: http://amzn.to/1BI1Qfe and you can watch it on your computer.
You have to keep it on til the end for it to have a credit. If you only watch part of it and turn it off, they will think you didn't like it!
THANK YOU!!
Juliet

Give it a look peeps, I promise it's fun!

Look! It's Lisa Bonet!

Isn't She Lovely? Lisa Bonet

While surfing the Internet I came across this photo of Lisa Bonet on the set of Girls in New York.

This brings back a lot of memories for me because I've always thought Lisa was so  beautiful and intriguing.

Although best known for her role of Denise Huxtable on The Cosby Show and A Different World.

My favorite Bonet moment will be her as Epiphany Proudfoot in Alan Parker's Angel Heart.

The film brought out a whole new side to her that was closer to who she is in my opinion than Denise  Huxtable ever was.

It also included a blood soaked sex scene with Mickey Rourke, the nudity and sexual content drew the ire of her TV Father Bill Cosby.Which eventually led to a falling out. Go figure that one...

Glad to see you working Lisa!

Amy Schumer Can "Catch a Dick"

Why Isn't The "A" Scarlet?
Photo: Matt Irwin
"I'm probably like 160 pounds right now, and I can catch a dick whenever I want." - Amy Schumer to Glamour Magazine

Oh Yeeeeeeees! I love Amy and her insightful brand of comedy, not to mention it's honesty and, well how raunchy it is, if I am being straight up.

I never miss an episode of Inside Amy Schumer.

Personally other than Mad Max Fury Road, Trainwreck is the only movie I really wanted to see this summer.

Yes, that's correct I wanna see Amy her cellulite, belly and all get down and dirty and act like guys have been acting on screen forever. But instead of being an entitled guy who bangs all the women he wants, it goes without saying Schumer will catch a ride on all the guys she wants. Werd!

You go chica!

Riding The Shark With Zac Efron

Zac Efron: I Thought I Called Uber?

Ugh! If there is one thing that scares me, it's sharks! That would be courtesy of the movie Jaws, thank you very much Steven Spielberg...

Also as you may have guessed I have a thing for Zac Efron.

So in honor of Shark Week, yeah I am actually going to honor it, keep the snickering to a minimum.

I am posting a photo of something that terrifies me with someone who doesn't.

As if Zac couldn't get any more macho, off he goes into the ocean and hitches a ride with a Tiger Shark.

Hey Zac, I would love to face my fear with you anytime!

Shark Week, your what's for dinner.
