This Tour Ain't D.O.A!

I Licked It, So It's Mine!
D.O.A.
D.O.A. East Coast / Midwest "Fight Back" Tour dates announced

Godfathers of Hardcore 40th Anniversary Tour - July 2018

Punk is the new black!

D.O.A., the pioneering punks who set the bar high for punk and basically invented hardcore, are ready to rip it up on the occasion of their 40th anniversary. Their new album is called Fight Back and they are embarking on a worldwide tour to support this impressive new effort. The "Men of Action" are ready to take on all opposition and lay down a punk rock path of wild music and free thought. Their rough and ready line up is led by the Godfather of Hardcore, Joe "Shithead" Keithley (guitar, vocals). He is more than ably accompanied by the manic rhythm section of Paddy Duddy (drums) and Corkscrew (bass).

Early reviews indicate that Fight Back is the most innovative D.O.A. album since War on 45D.O.A. has always been right on the pulse of what's going on in our screwed up world. Fight Back deals with what we have left, which in a lot of ways, is not much.
"When you really think about it, income inequality and disparity is at the root of a lot huge problems, like environmental degradation, war, sexism and hate" said Keithley who has been fighting the good fight for the last 40 years. It's why he's made TALK - ACTION = 0 his lifelong mantra.
Fight Back, released on Joe's own label Sudden Death Records, is a scathing and timely piece. Joe deals with all manner of unseemly low characters and issues. The album opens with acerbic "You Need an Ass Kickin' Right Now," next rips right into the startling "Killer Cops," then smashes into the anthemic "Time To Fight Back," which is street punk resistance at its fiercest. The album proceeds with the timely "Gonna Set You Straight" with violent and natural ease, and continues with the vitriolic "I Just Got Back From the USA." Then, the album takes a funny twist with "We Won't Drink This Piss" (down with bad corporate beer!) and "You Can't Stop Me," a song in which Joe delves into the character of Slapshot's playing coach Reggie Dunlop (a natural alter ego perhaps).
The "Men Of Action" are returning to the US for some unfinished business.

"You Need An Ass Kickin' Right Now" is the first video from D.O.A.'s new album Fight Back. Canada's legendary punks have always delighted in sticking it to pompous and despicable characters, so this new video carries on their fine tradition of defiance and irreverence.
"In our modern world that is stuffed with ever increasing episodes of racism, sexism, greed and warmongers, it's time say enough is enough, time to fight back," said Keithley, the fearless leader of D.O.A.

In "Ass Kickin'" he takes on callous and tragic characters like: Kanye, Putin, Harvey Weinstein, Xi Jingping, Trump, and many more. "My only regret is that the song is only one minute and 20 seconds long, so we ran out of time to include more," concluded Keithley.

Monday Motivation

Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie
After a weekend of massive errands, work and the endless Pride Parade I need much motivation and today that takes on the form of caffeine, you know, coffee.

"Yes" I know Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are no longer together. "Duh" I also know this is a publicity still for Mr. & Mrs. Smith. All that being stated this is about Monday Motivation, not current celebrity commentary minions.

What better way to motivate me than eye candy. The former love birds shot in glorious black & white, each engaging in a cup of java is perfection, no? I asked you, and I'm waiting for an answer...seriously, speak up!

It's time for me to say so long, farewell...the kitchen is alive with the sound of brewing!

Yep, I am outta her, the thirst is real.

Happy Gay Pride Los Angeles!

Closets Are For Clothes
Michael Shinafelt
June is officially Pride Month & today is Pride Day in Los Angeles, CA. I remember I came out officially at the age of 25. It was the best thing I ever did for myself.

Since then life has had it's ups and downs just like anyone else's, but the one thing being true to yourself does is it alleviates you of the burden of living an life that is not authentic.

If you can't love yourself, how can you love anyone else?

Today is a day for celebration of our true selves, be who you are and be proud of it.

For those of you out there who might be struggling remember it's OK to seek and ask for help. That is something to be proud of as well.

On that note, it's time to get the party started, Michael has left the closet...

Remembering Anthony Bourdain

Anthony Bourdain

Maresa Wickham
While I never had the pleasure of meeting Anthony Bourdain, by all accounts he was a great guy who seemingly had it all. I could address depression and suicide, yet I am hardly qualified to do so. Having been through a clinical depression myself, all I can say is it's a beast.

I thought it would be nice to serve Anthony's memory by reprinting a first hand experience from someone who knew and adored him. My friend Maresa Wickham worked with him in 2006 here is what she had to say about the man:

This one hits a little harder... one of my inspirational idols... I was honored to work with him in 2006 and was so impressed at how nice and how real he was. Such an interesting guy who seemed to have it all. My dream.

"Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s OK. The journey changes you; it should change you... You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind." RIP Anthony Bourdain

Here's a handsome shot of him from our Travel Channel promos video shoot.

"Godmonster Of Indian Flats"

Look Mommy, It's A Godmonster!
American Genre Film Archive (AGFA) and Something Weird to release a new 4K transfer of GODMONSTER OF INDIAN FLATS on Blu-ray July 10th

The most berserk and deranged creature feature in history!

"I want what the filmmakers were having" - Michael Shinafelt

Alamo Drafthouse's American Genre Film Archive, the largest non-profit genre film archive in the world, and Something Weird are excited to announce an July 10, 2018 release date for the GODMONSTER OF INDIAN FLATS Blu-ray. After a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015, AGFA purchased a 4K film scanner to create new digital transfers of titles from the Something Weird library. GODMONSTER OF INDIAN FLATS is the fourth release of dozens in this partnership, following THE ZODIAC KILLER, BAT PUSSY, and Ed Wood's THE VIOLENT YEARS.
Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the petting zoo, you meet . . . GODMONSTER OF INDIAN FLATS! Written and directed by infamous outsider artist Fredric C. Hobbs (ALABAMA'S GHOST), this is the story of an eight-foot-tall toxic sheep monster that blows up gas stations, smashes crooked politicians, and terrorizes stoners! From the surreal "wild west" locations to the outrageous monster effects, GODMONSTER OF INDIAN FLATS is easily the most berserk, out-of-control, and inexplicably deranged creature feature in the history of forever. This includes the scene where the Godmonster crashes a children's picnic.

"Get the straight jackets ready," said AGFA advisory board member Frank Henenlotter. "GODMONSTER OF INDIAN FLATS is one of the weirdest, wackiest, oddballest monster movies ever made!"
Special features include:
  • New 4K preservation from the only surviving 35mm theatrical print!
  • Rampaging monster trailers from the AGFA vaults!
  • Berserker shorts from the Something Weird vaults!
  • Bonus movie: LEGEND OF BIGFOOT (1975), a new 2K preservation from an original 35mm theatrical print!
  • Reversible cover art with illustration by Shana Cleveland!

Michael's Musings

Proud!
Michael Shinafelt
Happy Pride Month Minions! This weeks column will consist of the gay agenda - you know what we are after, living our lives like everyone else, with equal rights. What a lot we are how dare we as tax paying citizens think that we are entitled to such things.

For the record I am proud to be a part of the tribe. I also know I am not alone in that. Honestly I find other things way more offensive than loving someone of the same sex. Let's try making lecherous comments about your daughter on for size.

So this week we are going to celebrate - with images, quotes and good old fashioned love. Let all those feckless c#unts "Eat Cake."

The Bitch is back, luckily I am not feckless, or a c#nt

Gavin Newsom "Yes!"

"Slavery really ended when Abraham Lincoln outlawed Ambien" - Out Comedian Faith Choyce
Got Rebel Heart?

Let Love Rule!

This is an image I took for a piece I did on the Marriage Equality Rally in West Hollywood, CA on June 27, 2013. What a beautiful day!.

"More proof that Facebook is bullshit: "The #1 song on the day you were born defines your life".Well, mine was COME TOGETHER.And, I've never even had a 3-way"
 - While I doubt he has never had a three way - Out Comedian, Tony Tripoli

One of my fondest memories was the first Pride Parade I ever went to. It was with my first real boyfriend. That was a huge step for me.

The Los Angeles, CA Gay Pride Celebration is this weekend in West Hollywood, CA

In this month of Pride I am proud of who I am, what I've been through and where I am going.

I know what guys like
