James Newton Quartet
Rhythm 'n' Flow Records Announces James Newton Quartet - Live In Willisau Switzerland 1983 Featuring Geri Allen on Piano, Anthony Cox on Bass, and Andrew Cyrille on Drums 11/7 |
In the spring of 1983, a newly conceived version of the JAMES NEWTON QUARTET appeared on the European jazz scene. After four decades, producer Stephan Meyner contacted James Newton when they realized that, unfortunately, the quartet had never released a recording. This changed when Meyner unearthed a 1983 recording of the quartet from Willisau in Switzerland. A few months before the tour, James Newton had heard about a fantastic young pianist, composer, and scholar from Detroit who was completing her master's degree in ethnomusicology at the University of Pittsburgh: Geri Allen. The members of the JAMES NEWTON QUARTET for this European tour included Geri Allen on piano, Anthony Cox on bass, and Andrew Cyrille on drums. The recording from Willisau is one of the first recordings in Geri Allen's long, historic, and outstanding career. Bassist, composer, and bandleader Anthony Cox has immense, highly virtuosic mastery of his instrument, plays with great sensitivity, contributes to every nuance of the ensemble with incredible technical skill and responds to it with confidence, switching skilfully and fluently between different styles. Andrew Cyrille is one of the most respected drummers jazz has ever produced. His ensembles and compositions have contributed greatly to the tradition he embodies. He is known for his enthusiastic collaborations with modernists such as David Murray, Muhal Richard Abrams, Mal Waldron, Horace Tapscott, Peter Brötzmann, and Oliver Lake. The recording's repertoire includes Charles Mingus' loving tribute to Charlie Parker, "Reincarnation of a Lovebird," Geri Allen's masterpiece, "The Printmakers," and two originals by James Newton: "Forever Charles," dedicated to Mingus, and "Pinkie Below," the nickname given to Newton's young son James III by one of his uncles because he was the youngest grandson in the family and was born with light skin. | Silence of the Lambs l-r Jodie Foster, Ted Levine & Brooke Smith |
Today is all about being cool, it is Hump Day & Chill after all. No matter how cool you think you are you will never be as cool as Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) Jame Gumb (Ted Levine) and Catherine Martin (Brooke Smith) hanging out behind the scenes while shooting the classic Silence of the Lambs.
From the looks of this shot it seems like they were taking a chill during a shoot at Jame's lair. Oh, alright his house, but lair sounds much more foreboding, does it not???
Silence of the Lambs is one of my favorite films. I haven't seen it as many times as several of you have I am guessing, but four is a good number and I'd view it again many more times over schedule and opportunity permitting.
Hump Day & Chill...and be cool, don't be uncool!

| At The Emmys l-r Christopher Meloni, Mariska Hargitay & Ice-T |
Happy Monday! If you happened to watch the Emmys last night you got the usual mixed bag of highs and lows. My favorite speech of the evening belongs to Cristin Milioti who won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Limited Or Anthology Series for The Penguin.
Thanking someone and wanting to "freebase their brain" has to be one of the all time best quotes I've ever heard an actor utter during an award acceptance speech.
Oh, and let's not forget the Law & Order tribute award presentation. However it is this photo of Christopher Meloni, Mariska Hargitay and Ice-T in sitting together in the audience that is giving me all the feels today.
"Yes" I am a huge Law & Order: SVU fan and I can't wait for the Season 27 premiere Thursday September 25th!
Enjoy your day and have some feels on me!!!

As If!

| Brittany Snow & Malin Akerman |
The Hunting Wives on Netflix has been renewed for Season Two...As If! It wouldn't have been, I mean the series finale was a cliffhanger after all.
Not to mention all those hot sex scenes between Malin Akerman and Brittany Snow to spice up already juicy situations they take the show to a whole new level!
Seriously how could this Netflix fan favorite not come back for another season? Even if it's merely to resolve the cliffhanger and tie up the Season One lose ends.
If you haven't partaken in the naughty "Wives" as of yet, I recommend you do.
It's a lot of fun!

About Last Night...
![]() |
| Up On The Roof l-r Me, Kelly Waters & Shauna Waters |
Last night was not my typical Friday Night, because, well, my nieces are in town for the Oasis concert at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena tonight.
Which means it's an excuse to be a tourist in my own town. They are staying at one of the newer hip Hollywood Hotels the Whisky.
Yesterday I motored over in a Lyft to meet them and to head over to the Chateau Marmont where we drank, had appetizers and mingled with the other people in the historic and beautiful lounge there.
We concluded the evening with drinks upon the roof of the Whisky where we could overlook the city, hence the photo above.
I took my leave around eleven not sure when they retired as the met a couple of other Oasis concert goers and were conversing with them when I decided it was time to call it a night.
Guess I will find out today when we hit El Coyote!
That's all for now.

Earthly Delights
Basking in the huge success of his worldwide hit “Crème Brulée” HERE (& the remix HERE) and follow-up singles, “Can I Call You” HERE & “Dulce Amor” HERE off his recent Earthly Delights EP, David Archuleta is ready to share more new music with a deluxe edition to be released on September 12 - HERE
The Earthly Delights (Deluxe Edition) EP is David’s first collection of new music in over five years with the deluxe version featuring two brand new tracks - “Fade To Black” (written by David, Michael Cody Dear, Ryan Nealon and Alexander Lewis who also produced the track) & “Inside Out” (written by David, Noah Davis,Ryan Nealon and Michael Blum who also produced the track) as well as acoustic versions of “Crème Brulee” and “Can I Call You.”
David says about the Earthly Delights (Deluxe Edition) EP – “I’m thrilled to share these extra new songs on the deluxe edition of the “Earthly Delights” ep. I’ve been inspired by so many new things in my life these past few years, and I felt like these songs deserved to be part of the story that I want to share with you all. It’s fun for me to include you on my journey as I create all this new music and I hope you enjoy these songs as much as I do.”
“Fade to Black”
“Fade to Black” is a sassy song about moving on with life and prioritizing yourself after giving too much time to the wrong situations. Time to prioritize your own well-being.”
“Inside Out”
”Inside Out” is a 80’s or 90's influenced throwback sounding song. It’s an intimate song about getting someone to open up more in a relationship and encouraging your partner to let their guard down more after having a wall up and being tough from whatever life has thrown at them, but done in a sexy way.”
Questioning his beliefs and the indoctrination of his youth, the innately angelic David has fallen out of graces with the church and his family. Traversing through his own personal hells, he finds a connection with his inner strength in the process— and grounding in his own authentic queer identity. David now re-emerges into the realm of earthly delights. Here, he explores the pleasures and pain of terrestrial life: the sweet indulgences of connection and heartbreak, sensuality and physicality. Innocent at the core, but now balanced and rounded by newfound flirtiness and sass, boldness and humor— he’s an embodied being of the earth, here to take in the full spectrum of what life has to offer, with courage, playfulness, and a beaming inner light.
With all of this new music under his belt, David will hit the road for the first time in over five years and bring his dynamic live show here to stages across North America performing new tracks from his Earthly Delights EP as well as fan favorites “Crush” “Afraid To Love,” “Hell Together,” “A Little Too Not Over You” and more this fall. The month long trek which is set to hit such cities as New York (SOLD OUT), Philadelphia, Toronto, San Francisco, Phoenix and more will feature support acts Alexandra John (9/17 thru 9/29) and Rachel Bochner (10/2 thru 10/17). All dates on sale HERE. A limited number (50 - 75) of special VIP packages will be available for $200 USD (excl.ticket face, tax & fees).
