The Kindred

"Deep flesh tones and heavy primaries look spectacular."

     —Matt Paprocki, Doblu

Academy Award®-winning screen legends Rod Steiger (In the Heat of the Night; Duck, You Sucker) and Kim Hunter (A Streetcar Named Desire; Planet of the Apes) star in The Kindred, a chilling tale of a genetic experiment gone wrong... very wrong! Kim Hunter is Dr. Amanda Hollins, a molecular scientist who calls on her son John (David Allen Brooks) to eliminate all evidence of her genetic experiments... most specifically her "Anthony Journals." Dr. Philip Lloyd (Steiger), an acquaintance of Hollins who is familiar with her experiments, wants to continue her studies no matter the cost! John heads to his isolated childhood home with a group of friends to uncover his mother's research and destroy it all. There's something else in the house, however... something watching and waiting... a tentacled creature born from the desire to alter human evolution. It's evil. It's mad. It's ready to kill! One of the best "creature features" of the 1980s, utilizing all practical special effects, The Kindred also stars Amanda Pays (TV's The Flash, Leviathan) and Talia Balsam (TV's Mad Men, Homeland).

Massacre At Central High

The startling U.S. debut of Dutch writer/director Rene Daalder, originally released in 1976, Massacre at Central High is a thriller about a high school transfer student who resorts to murder after being pushed too far by a trio of bullies. When it appears he has freed his fellow classmates from the rule of violent oppressors, the newfound power becomes too much and soon the bullied become the bullies.

For years, Massacre at Central High more or less slipped under the radar. With the exception of Robert Carradine, the cast consisted of actors you might recognize but not know by name. That, coupled with a title that suggests it might be your run-of-the-mill slasher rather than a smart commentary on the power and influence of violence, has resulted in an under-appreciated gem.

Not everyone overlooked the film, however. In an early '80s episode of Sneak Previews, famed critic Roger Ebert listed Massacre at Central High as one of his guilty pleasures, praising it as "an intelligent and uncompromising allegory about the psychology of violence." Ebert further elaborated on how the "well-crafted" film does an excellent job showcasing how the "student body is a breeding ground for fascism." Nearly fifty years later, those themes present in the film are as relevant as ever.

The new release from Synapse features a high-definition 1080p remaster scanned, transferred and supervised by Daalder. The Blu-ray also contains a full course-load of special features including the brand-new documentary Hell in the Hallways: The Making of Massacre at Central High. Massacre at Central High stars Andrew Stevens, Derrel Maury, Kimberly Beck, Rainbeaux Smith, and Robert Carradine.

Hump Day & Chill

Here we are again Minions another Hump Day & Chill. Guess what?! Much like last week it's a trailer for another horror movie.

"Yes" spooky season is just around the corner and it's my Christmas with all the horror film trailers coming at us!

The scare flick in question in case you haven't guessed already is Pearl the prequel to Ti West's nasty little opus X (which I loved!!!) dropping September 16th. Starring the amazing Mia Goth and co-written by her with West as Well.

Based on the trailer it's gonna be another Hell of a ride. My favorite byline about it via Polygon sums the preview up best:

"Ti West's Pearl adds porn and pitchfork murder to the Wizard of Oz"

In case you're wondering why this is accurate (I know you are) I suggest you Hump Day & Chill to the abovementioned preview below.

Personally I can't wait for this, now go Hump Day & Chill with your bad selves...do it, and do it now!!!

Girls Nite Out

"Fairly disturbing... a perfect example of early 80's exploitation packaging"

     —Hysteria Lives

A host of familiar genre faces including Hal Holbrook (Creepshow), Rutanya Alda (Amityville II: The Possession), Julia Montgomery (The Kindred) and Lauren-Marie Taylor (Friday the 13th Part 2) rounds out the cast of this gloriously mean-spirited slice from the slasher golden age, Girls Nite Out! The students of DeWitt University are preparing themselves for a night of fun and frolics in the form of an all-night scavenger hunt. Little do they know that they are in fact the ones being hunted... An unhinged assailant, disguised in the college's goofy bear mascot outfit - and bearing knives for claws, two years before Freddy donned his famous gloves - is stalking the campus hellbent on carving up co-eds. Originally released under the only marginally more appropriate title of The Scaremaker, Girls Nite Out is a decidedly singular slasher flick which comes on like a frenetic cross between Animal House and Friday the 13th - veering from jovial frat antics to jarringly disturbing scenes of the killer shrieking obscenities as he slices up his victims. On this nite out, no one is coming home!

Enjoy The Silence "Scream"

Enjoy The Silence
Neve Campbell

Well Minions you have undoubtedly heard by now that Neve Campbell will not be a part of Scream 6 due to salary negotiations. Can't say I'm surprised when I heard Hayden Panettiere was coming back as fan favorite Kirby Reed, my thought was: Neve won't be returning.

I am sorry to say my thought has come to pass. Seriously though the whole Scream series has been about Sidney Prescott, like WTF?! Hard to believe they would not pony up for Neve in this day and age. This truly makes me wanna "Scream!"

Suffice it to say, my expectations have now been lowered for the upcoming installment of this consistently good franchise. Paramount if this tanks you know why and it's on you!

Will I see it? Not sure yet, I have a you'll find out attitude presently. I'm not even sure how this will work, if at all...

Michael has left the building!!!

Dark Night Of The Scarecrow 2

The wait...is over!

The Scarecrow is back with a vengeance.

On October 24, 1981, television audiences were terrified when they tuned into CBS to catch the premiere of Dark Night of the Scarecrow. This little made-for-TV feature developed into a cult icon and sparked an entire scarecrow-centric subgenre of horror films. More than four decades later, the scarecrow returns in an all-new frightening film, Dark Night of the Scarecrow 2.

Single mother Chris (Amber Wedding) and her son Jeremy (Aiden Shurr) moved to a small country town in Stubblefield County. While Chris begins work at the local country store, Jeremy starts to bond with the older lady (Carol Dines) that watches him after school. On her way home from work one day, Chris happens upon an old, weather-beaten scarecrow. Chris places a flower in its lapel and whispers in its ear. Little does she know that this seemingly harmless gesture awakens an evil from the past.

Written and directed by J.D. Feigelson, the writer of the original film, Dark Night of the Scarecrow 2 will be released exclusively on DVD and Blu-ray on May 10, 2022, from VCI Entertainment.

Bryan Loves You

SETH LANDAU’S CULT “FOUND FOOTAGE” HORROR MOVIE ‘BRYAN LOVES YOU’ MAKES ITS LONG-AWAITED DEBUT ON BLU-RAY FROM JAL SMITHTOWN VIA MVD ENTERTAINMENT GROUP.

MVD ENTERTAINMENT GROUP IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THE DEBUT OF THE CONTROVERSIAL 2008 CULT CLASSIC “BRYAN LOVES YOU” ON BLU-RAY COMING MARCH 2022.

In the early 1990s, a 32-year-old psychotherapist (Seth Landau, Take Out) began to suspect that his small Arizona community was being taken over by a homicidal religious cult known as "The Bryans". His entire ordeal was captured on camcorder footage and security tapes. This is what was recovered.

George Wendt ("Cheers", House), Tony Todd (Candyman), Tiffany Shepis (Abominable) and Daniel Roebuck (The Fugitive) co-star along with cameos by Lloyd Kaufman (Guardians of the Galaxy), Chuck Williams (Bubba Ho-Tep), Bobby Slayton (Bandits) and scream queen Brinke Stevens (The Slumber Party Massacre) in this disturbing chiller based on the 1993 true story that shocked America.

Director Seth Landau says "Bryan Loves You is my take on the dangers of homogenous thinking, and also a very personal story about my experience growing up in rural America and being forcibly admitted to a mental hospital as a child. I think the movie is more relevant today than ever before, as our lives are increasingly tracked, recorded and monitored. If you resist what the big machine wants, it can be quite dangerous. I'm thrilled to be working with Eric D. Wilkinson and MVD Entertainment on the Special Edition Blu-ray and digital re-release of my film. There aren't many companies nurturing and caring for cutting-edge independent film. I'm lucky and fortunate grassroots guerrilla cinema can still exist in 2022 through MVD."

Film Buff Friday: I Spit On Your Grave

"A vile bag of garbage without a shred of artistic distinction. Attending it was one of the most depressing experiences of my life."

     —Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun Times

Camille Keaton (What Have You Done to Solange?, Tragic Ceremony) stars as Jennifer Hills, a young and beautiful career woman who rents a backwoods cabin to write her first novel. Attacked by a group of local lowlifes and left for dead, she devises a horrific plan to inflict revenge in some of the most unforgettable scenes ever shot on film.

In 1978, one film changed the face of cinema forever. Now, four decades later, the original and notorious I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE (aka 'Day of the Woman') is back and still refusing to be buried! In this new special edition Blu-ray, you can re-experience the phenomenon that shocked and divided the world - and influenced an entire genre and generation of filmmakers - with a new 4K HD scan and restoration of director Meir Zarchi's 35mm original camera negative and a newly restored original mono soundtrack. Hump Day & Chill

"Science fiction (uh uh) double feature, Doctor X (uh uh) will build a creature" - Science Fiction Double Feature, The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Tonight's the night, that's correct Minions American Horror Story: Double Feature premieres and it's Wednesday thus we shall Hump Day & Chill today by getting our horror on. Oh, and "Yes" some science fiction as well from the looks of the aliens in the trailer.

Remember double features when you were a kid? While I am sure some of you don't many of us living legends do. They were always a blast and mainly happened at Drive-Ins, oh those days of yore.

I plan to bask in the gory (not a typo) of AHS and enjoy the ride. What's that? How much do I love AHS you ask? Well honestly I am proceeding with caution as usually it runs out of steam after the first three episodes as it never seems to know what to do with the meat in the sandwich leading up to the conclusion.

This being stated I would imagine that each story contained in the double feature will likely be 5 or 6 episodes in length and that bodes quite well as to me that is the perfect amount of time to tell a tight concise story for any AHS season.

So kick back, Hump Day & Chill and buckle up to things that go bump in the night...!

"Candyman, Candyman, Candyman"

Who's That Girl???
Virginia Madsen

"Who can take a sunrise (who can take a sunrise) Sprinkle it with dew (sprinkle it with dew)" The Candy Man, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

In case you haven't heard the 411 there's a reboot of the 1992 horror flick Candyman starring Tony Todd & Virginia Madsen opening this Friday. "Yes" really.

Good news for fans of the first go, Tony Todd is returning as Candyman. While Ms. Madsen is not returning she decided to get cheeky and pose with this bus stop billboard of the upcoming to do. Hey, Hellen expired in the first round and no one renewed her for this one.

She captioned it: "Well hello there..."

That's so Mae West.

My thoughts? Glad you asked. I truly enjoyed the first one, it is definitely one of the better modern horror yarns. This being stated my expectations for this Friday's reboot are low. Why you ask? I'm glad you did, for one thing not one review has been published as of yet. Not a good sign.

Will I ever seen it? Somewhere down the line I'm sure I will. But it can wait.

In the meanwhile I'm living for this photo of Madsen. She's one of my favorite actors.

Mic Drop!
