New Year, New...

You Make Me Feel, Mighty Real
Michael Shinafelt
Well it's here, New Year's Eve has arrived! 2018 here we come! So let's cut to the chase, if there is one completely asinine NYE sentiment it has to be: "New Year, New Me" - Ummmmmmm, OK how in the F#ck is that going to happen?!

The things going on with you from last year aren't going to magically disappear at the stroke of midnight, they will carry over. Not to mean that is a bad thing, it simply means you are still going to be you. Sure you can work to improve yourself, in many ways like your health, taking a class and learning something new or being the change you want to see in the world. But new you, WTF?!

All we can do is the best we can by constantly striving to become our authentic selves in service to a better world to inhabit. Thus I never make New Year's resolutions they are only a recipe for failure and I am constantly working on bettering my world all year long.

Basically all NYE means is it's a different year. Nothing more.

Happy 2018 and may you you strive to become a better you everyday!

Who's That Girl?

If I Was You, I'd Want To Be Me Too
Sharon Stone
Who's that hiding behind those sunglasses rocking an animal print bikini? It's Sharon Stone, bitch, and guess what? She's 59 years young!

It seems Ms. Stone has found the fountain of youth or perhaps has a portrait in the attic as she puts most women half her age to shame.

Sharon looks terrific dressed down or up. In fact while choosing an image for today's post I debated whether to feature her looking stunning in a glamorous gown or posting her in this bikini. Ultimately the two piece won. My reasoning was this, if you are going to show how great 59 looks make sure it's all out there to view. It's very inspiring!

As I sit drinking my smoothie before spin class it also drives home that I have lost 24 lbs and am 52. "Yes" 50 is indeed looking like the new 30 more and more peeps.

Get inspired to be your personal best in 2018, the effect it will have on your life is amazing!

You may be thinking WTF?! Christmas is over. Yes, but my life is firing on all cylinders people, things I laid the ground work for this past year are coming to fruition, in every part of my Big Top extravaganza.

So today December 29 the last Friday of 2017 I leave you with the amazing Mr. Jackman and his balls to contemplate.

Michael's Musings

It's All Fun & Games Until...
Michael Shinafelt
Christmas has come and gone and now we are moving on up to 2018, ponder that. Thus this weeks column may be a tad repetitive, considering all the things that have led up to it.

Or perhaps it won't. Whatever, I'm rebel just for kicks now, might've had your fill, but I feel it still...

Wanna be on my level today? Climb!

Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight? Asking for a friend.

Current Mood? Fuschia

My Mom visited moi for Christmas, best present ever!

Oh, we went and saw I, Tonya - loved it! Yes, that's a recommendation.

I gained a mere 3 lbs over Christmas, child's play, off in no time

Yoga put a ring on it yesterday

Sex Cells
Me & Traci Lords
In case you didn't know I went to Sex Cells this past Friday to hang with the awesome Traci Lords

Where in the world is...(you know someone whose name should be here)

Shout Out to my buddy Tom Connan who has a brilliant new single out Charlie - listen to it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIBZ5kklVAM

Speaking of Charlie's isn't A Charlie Brown Christmas one of the best Holiday specials ever?

Who the F#ck is styling Lisa Rinna & Erika Jayne during their confessionals this season on RHOBH? Ladies, just say "No"

Speaking of "No" that is what I say every year when my Dr. tries to convince me to get a flu shot. Guess what? I never get the flu and people I know who receive the shot get sick, Hmmmmmmm...

On that note, follow me and party like it will be 2018 the next time we connect. Why? Because it will be!

Why Not? Lucy Hale

Smile, It's Contagious
Lucy Hale
While browsing the WWW to what did my wandering eyes did appear, but Lucy Hale minus the eight tiny reindeer.

That's correct minions, Lucy aka Aria Montgomery of Pretty Little Liars and the upcoming CW show Life Sentence has that post Christmas glow. You know the one you get when it's over, yet you are satisfied? Like the cat the swallowed the canary, a pig in the mud, the...well you get the picture.

Looks like Lucy had fun exchanging gifts with her friends. Hope you did with you and yours.

Christmas comes but once a year, however this year we need to keep the spirit going, seriously think about it, but not too much.

Happy Hump Day!

2018 Here We Come!

"Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened" - Dr. Seuss

Christmas 2017 is officially over, don't cry minions, get some backbone and put on a happy face.

Onward and upward I always say. Time to put on your big people pants and brace yourself for 2018, bitches!

With that sentiment I hope you all had a wonderful Yuletide, mine? It was pretty great my Mom came to Los Angeles to visit me with her guy Bob in tow. We got our Uber on and feasted on Mexican Food at Camacho's Cantina located at Universal City Walk.

On to the next Uber ride, our destination? The Arc Light Cinema, Hollywood where we saw I, Tonya, which I loved! Mom enjoyed, Bob not so much.

They got Jack in the Box to go after the fact to take on the Uber to our final destination, home. None of that for this guy since I recently shed 24 lbs.

Yes, we were finally home for Christmas

And now it is the morning after, because there's got to be one, ya know.

Have a good one!

Christmas Day 2017

Where's My Shelf?
Michael Shinafelt
Like most of you minions I am celebrating Christmas Day with family, most notably my Mom and her guy Bob who are visiting from Washington State

Today day we are indulging in the equivalent of Chinese Food from A Christmas Story and having Mexican Food instead.

Here is a Christmas riddle. What do you call an elf without a shelf? Elf on the loose! Today, that's me!

Ho, ho, ho...pucker up your lips and blow and Merry Christmas!!!

Nothing Says Christmas Eve Like...Katherine Heigl

Happy 10th Anniversary!
Katherine Heigl & Josh Kelley
It's Christmas Eve and what else did you expect here at Entertain Me other than to be thrown a curve ball?

A lot of you are most likely reading today's byline and are puzzled, annoyed or perhaps thinking WTF?! There are of course some of you not engaging in a volatile reaction regarding the divisive Ms. Heigl. Whatever your feelings are, that was the point of today's post, to mix them up this Holiday

Thus I bring you the image of Katherine and her husband of ten years singer Josh Kelley recreating one of their nude photos from days of yore. Ten years after all is a lifetime in Hollywood.

Katherine has sort of been on my mine of late as I stumbled across Unforgettable, a Fatal Attraction type movie she did with Rosario Dawson on an HBO free view that was given to me for whatever the F#ck reason. The movie was pretty forgettable, however I did think Heigl (and Dawson) were good.

Mic Drop! Have a great Christmas Eve!

PS Katherine, it looks like you have quit smoking, congrats!

And All Through The House...

All I Want For Christmas...
Joan Collins & Psycho Santa

With only three days left until Christmas, my Holiday spirit has taken a decidedly macabre turn with memories of a Tales From The Crypt story And All Through The House starring Joan Collins of Dynasty fame.

After that bitch Joan Collins whacks her husband to death with a fireplace poker, she’s left with the messy problem of how to dispose of the body. Meanwhile, the holiday music on the radio is interrupted by a news bulletin warning residents that a psychotic killer has escaped from a local asylum.
And he’s dressed like Santa, naturally.
The killer Santa ends up on her doorstep. She can’t call the cops, with her husband’s body there in the living room, so all she can do is try to keep Santa from getting in. It’s a tense and CLAUStrophobic  little story that in a twisted way leaves you rooting for the Santa gone wild!
Merry Christmas indeed!

Yanomamos Comes Alive!!!

They're Aliiiiiiiiive!!!

Husker Du's Grant Hart returns to drums with the reunion of Yanomamos
"Comes Alive!" hits record stores 29 years after their first release,
"Quizas" (pronounced, Kiss-Ass) in 1988 on New Alliance record

Yanomamos is performance artist Miss Jane Mansfield on bass, Timothy G. Piotrowski on guitar and vocals, with Grant Hart on drums. The three became a tribe adopting their name from the indigenous people of the tropical rain forest in Southern Venezuela and Northern Brazil that were known to be wild, untameable and a force to be reckoned with.

Grant shared a quality with Marcel Duchamp of pursuing an endless quest in pushing the boundaries of creativity. The jammed out psychedelic improvisations of Yanomamos rhythms, riff damage, peaks and valleys galore lace perfectly together with his innovative and masterfully delivered drum tracks.

Tim and Jane's early 80's band Duck Kicking Vulture caught the attention of Grant. In 1987 he offered the band 12 hours of recording time and 12 hours to mix. The deal was made just before Husker Du's break up, then everything fell apart.

Yanomamos came together spontaneously in the summer of 1988 when Grant invited them to Creation studio where he was working on Intolerance. The session was recorded on a boom box and released as Quizas. This was the first post-Husker Du project to hit vinyl from any of its members. At that time the band played a handful of shows, including their infamous "Fire Show" in First Avenue's main room. You can watch a promo clip from the show at www.yanomamos.com

The groups second "Fire Show", also in the main room was a 2011 benefit for Hart after a fire destroyed his South Saint Paul family home. Yanomamos returned to the studio in 2015 recording side one of Comes Alive! as an EP that was never released. In 2017 after Hart's diagnosis with cancer, Yanomamos returned to the studio to turn the EP into an LP. It was one of his favorites projects. The test pressings arrived on the night of his passing.

Meow! The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

Housewives Gone Wild!
l - r
Camille Grammer, Kyle Richards, Lisa Vanderpump, Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave, Lisa Rinna, Erika Girardi & Dorit Kemsley
It's time to sharpen those claws and crack open the Rose' The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills returns to Bravo tonight at 9 pm!

While Season Seven was a definite improvement over Season Six and the endless Lyme Disease and Munchausen blabber, raise a glass that Season Eight will finally get the Housewives groove back that earlier episodes of the show had.

Yet who am I kidding. Even if this Season turns out to be somewhat lacking I will relish every second of it! Especially since this go round features the return of Camille Grammer, who was quite the conduit for drama when she was on the show before and I expect nothing less from her this time.

So tune in tonight minions and this time the drama isn't saved just for your Mama!

It's My Birthday & I'll...

Birthday Selfie
Michael Shinafelt

It's my Birthday & I'll say what I want to. What did you think I was going to say cry??? Then you obviously don't know me too well.

So I guess I need to be all reflective and stuff, correct? Of course I do! Today I turn the ripe age of 52, and I am proud of it. Why you may ask? Because the wind is high, it blows my mind, that's why! "Yes" I threw in that lyric reference to F#ck with you youngsters out there.

In all seriousness it's because I'm feeling myself. Translation - I know who I am and what I want, and I'm coming for you 2018, so bend over and take it!

The image above I took this morning, right before I got on the computer to write this post. Why am I in the shower with a glam face filter you might ask? Because I have lost 24 lbs and counting minions, not to mention my body is really tight.

While my face has a filter, my body does not. I have gone from 213 lbs to 189 lbs and I expect to lose more and get even more ripped thanks to my new love boxing. I punched a bag and I liked it!

Along with boxing I spin 3 -4 times a week, go to yoga once a week and watch what I eat. This is no small accomplishment when one reaches a certain age.

Thus today I am celebrating my 52 year old body. I am in some of the best shape I have ever been and guess what? Yep, I'm feeling myself today, and everyday. That is always a reason to celebrate!

Keep up with me I'm bad ass at:

Bite Me!

Team Gingerbread Man
Gigi Hadid
While I am not sure there is really any other meaning to this photo than model Gigi Hadid chomping down for a nibble on a gingerbread man. In my mind this photo is sending a strong message to the FCC: Bite Me!

Yeah, I have an active imagination that way...now that the elephant my house has been acknowledged I have a hunch Ms. Hadid would have no qualms about the use of her image to deliver this particular message.

I bet at first glance you thought "Oh boy here we go, another innocuous Super Model posting."

So keep those visions of sugar plums dancing in your heads minions, but also be mindful that those visions could easily be restricted internet access wise very soon.

From Myself, Gigi and the Gingerbread Man - Dear FCC, all we want for Christmas is for you to bite me motherf#ckers!

Silver Bells?

Not!
Photo:
Michael Shinafelt
Mark your calendars the date has been set for Prince Harry & Meghan Markle's wedding, May 19, 2018, "yes" the nuptials will be televised.

The betrothed will tie the knot at St. George's Chapel @ Windsor Castle, say that three times fast. Funny a few scant weeks ago I snapped a shot in the supermarket of the tabloid headline above and sent it to my Royal Fan Girl Shani Bayne

She doesn't believe the headline and frankly neither do I. These two don't seem like the irresponsible type. For sure they will have children, but they are getting married for one reason and one reason only - love. Baby being on board has nada to do with it. Trust me, I'm not a tabloid.

Now to the important part are the wedding bells that will ring at St. George's Chapel silver? One can dream...!

Holiday Cheer With Katy Perry

Santa Baby
Katy Perry & Friends
Did you think I would let the Christmas season saunter by without a visit from whimsical songstress Katy Perry? If you did, you thought wrong!

Here is Katy being hew own Santa Claus and engaging in her personal brand of Holiday cheer by paying a visit to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston in Georgia.

In all honesty if I had to choose someone to be my faux Santa I'd pick Katy. She is the Queen of fun and would for sure put a smile on the face of the most stringent Grinch. Nobody does cotton candy dreams and Unicorn races better than Perry, so her having a crack at reindeer games is a perfect fit.

Also I love seeing people, yes not just celebrities, taking time out to make children in need of some Holiday cheer smile. Even though I have never wanted kids, I still like them, and bringing them joy is a priceless gift.

Ho, ho, ho...and all that jazz, TGIF

Michael's Musings

Victory!
Michael Shinafelt
While I am still reveling in my weight loss and leaner body a new reason to celebrate came along. That's right kiddies, Doug Jones defeated notorious pedophile Roy Moore for the Senate seat in Alabama! Woo Hoo! Get up and boogie!

In other news...my Birthday is this coming Monday, the earth is still round and Christmas draws nigh. In a world of turmoil it's nice to know there are some things that never change and there are some things that can and should.

It's time for a happy dance!

I've met God, she's black

Celebrating the return of my cheekbones, oh how I've missed them!

Vanderpump Rules is back. It's hard to like any of these people. Seriously, I could call them all out, but how about saying there is only one of them I can stand: La La Kent and of course Queen Lisa Vanderpump herself.

While on the subject of Bravo reality shows, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is back this Tuesday...Yay!

Please go get in a clown costume and be super cheerful and happy

This hole is my bitch!

Share your best bad boy walk

Yesterday was the Birthday of one of my partners in crime Maresa Wickham. "Yes" I wished her a HBD then, but thought it would be fun to give her a more public shout out, so there!

Mailed out all of my Christmas cards

Boxing tonight, it is a really meditative experience for me

Omarosa is leaving her position at the White House as Trump's Chief Adviser on African-American issues. I forgot she was even there to do that job. Think about that comment, but not too much.

Blessed are the cheese makers. Without Brie I would be nothing!

On The 13th Day Of December...

Ho, Ho, Ho!
The Waitresses
"I know what boys like, I know what guys want, I know what boys like, Boys like, boys like me" - I Know What Boys Like, The Waitresses

I don't know about you, but I am feeling soooooo eighties lately. So sue me if I was a teen in the best motherf#cking decade ever!

Well if you lived during that time period you remember how creative the music scene was. With everything from Punk to New Wave, oh, and of course the business as usual crap. You may also remember a band called The Waitresses. They had a really great hit single with the moniker I Know What Boys Like

They also had one other sizable hit, a Christmas song called - Christmas Wrapping.

So let me take you back to the future and let this too cool for school blast from the past jingle your bells.

Ho ho ho! Here it is after the jump!

Straight Edge

STRAIGHT EDGE:
A Clear-Headed Hardcore Punk History
by Tony Rettman

Deluxe 400-page softcover book with foreword by Civ of Gorilla Biscuits

This ain't no F#ckhouse!

This deluxe softcover runs 400 pages, features a foreword by Civ of Gorilla Biscuits, includes a full-color insert, and after is available HERE. This is the latest authoritative and exhaustive leap by Bazillion Points into the vast demi-world of a powerful DIY subculture. Launch events were mobbed at the Sonos NYC store, Bridge 9 Records in Boston, and Hold Fast Records in Asbury Park, NJ, where Tony Rettman sat for a riveting Q&A with Minor Threat's Brian Baker.

Starting in 1981 via Minor Threat's revolutionary call to arms, the clean and positive straight edge hardcore punk movement took hold and prospered during the 1980s, earning a position as one of the most durable yet chronically misunderstood music subcultures. Straight edge created its own sound and visual style, went on to embrace vegetarianism, and later saw the rise of a violent militant fringe. As the "don't drink, don't smoke" message spread from Washington, D.C., to Boston, California, New York City, and, eventually, the world, adherents struggled to define the fundamental ideals and limits of what may be the ultimate youth movement.

Tony Rettman traces the story of straight edge from adolescent origins to enduring counterculture via fresh first-hand accounts from the clear and alert members of Minor Threat, SS Decontrol, Youth of Today, DYS, Slapshot, Uniform Choice, 7 Seconds, Stalag 13, Justice League, Chain of Strength, No for an Answer, Insted, Gorilla Biscuits, Judge, Bold, Project X, Lärm, Brotherhood, Shelter, H2O, Half Off, Resurrection, Raid, Strife, Earth Crisis, Vegan Reich, Mindset, Stop and Think, Mouthpiece, Floorpunch, Ten Yard Fight, Mental, Fucked Up, Trial, Have Heart, Praise, Clear, the Geeks, and many others.

Time Out New York calls the book: "a trip through the storied history of the straight edge punk movement, from its origins in 1981 as a call-to-arms from the band Minor Threat to its later flourishing as a fully-fledged counter-culture manifesto."

QUOTES

"What separates hardcore from punk is that punk was just saying, 'fkck this place.' Hardcore was saying, 'let's make a difference. Let's make our minds stronger and focus.'"
- Toby Morse, H2O

"We were out to create a revolution. We loved the power and energy of hardcore, but not the whole self-destructive punk ethos. We were into being healthy and living clean, mean, and smart."
- John Porcelly, Youth of Today

"Straight edge became a religion. It's a very strange feeling to be one of the unwitting founders of this religion."
- Jeff Nelson, Minor Threat

"I'm honored to be part of this book, which accurately recalls a counterculture within a counterculture, a movement that changed the course of so many people's lives, including my own. Straight edge gave us some stable footing and handrails in a confusing time, and provided us a soundtrack of hard, positive, and life-affirming music to craft our progressive and positive adult lives. This book will serve as a crucial and authoritative glance into that world, shining light for fans around the globe on a time that we will never forget."
- Ray Cappo, Youth of Today

"I fxcking loved it! The SSD stuff was amazing, they were my game changer. I also really loved the Uniform Choice chapters. It's a great book. Tony Rettman has done it again, and I'm stoked to have a small part in it."
- Mike Ferraro, Judge

"I will look forward to having this on our coffee table and showing it and reading it with pride for my role in this beautiful movement, for what you've done and captured, and what straight edge was, is and will be."
- Dave Smalley of DYS/All/Dag Nasty

"Tony Rettman's book is THE CHOICE for a firsthand account of the history, inner workings, and real truth of straight edge, one of the most important cultural influences of the last century."
- Al Barile, SSD

"A fantastic read and a true documentation straight from the people who made this small scene an important piece of music history."
- Dennis Lyxzen, Refused

"I love this book! Everyone's stories are tied together to bring validity to the subject. Rettman covered a lot of ground here, and I'm impressed."
- Steve Larson, Insted
