Troy

On August 18, Troy, Wolfgang Petersen’s epic action blockbuster set against the legendary Trojan War, arrives on 4K UHD just in time for the theatrical debut of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. The acclaimed director of Poseidon and Das Boot adapts Homer’s classic poem The Iliad to capture a sweeping saga of love, war, honor, and devastation. The Limited Edition release features brand new 4K remasters of both the Director’s Cut and Theatrical Cut of the film from the original 35mm camera negative by Arrow Films, hours of special features, and newly commissioned extras. A Blu-ray edition release will also be available.

Prince Hector of Troy (Eric Bana, Hulk) signs a peace treaty with Menelaus, King of Sparta (Brendan Gleeson, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), but peace is short-lived when his brother Paris (Orlando Bloom, The Lord of the Rings) brings Sparta’s Queen Helen (Diane Kruger, Inglourious Basterds) back to Troy. Menelaus turns to his brother Agamemnon, King of the Greeks (Brian Cox, Succession), who launches an attack on Troy to retrieve Helen and expand his own power. The campaign further strains Agamemnon’s uneasy alliance with the legendary warrior Achilles (Brad Pitt, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood). The film also stars Peter O’Toole (Lawrence of Arabia), Sean Bean (Ronin), Julie Christie (McCabe & Mrs. Miller) and Rose Byrne (Insidious).

Special features include a 4K (2160p) UHD Blu-ray presentation in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) for both the Director’s Cut and Theatrical Cut; original lossless DTS-HD MA 5.1 surround audio plus stereo audio for both the Director’s Cut and Theatrical Cut; optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing; an archival introduction by director Wolfgang Petersen; an archive picture-in-picture commentary of the film; a series of archival behind-the scenes featurettes; an archival introduction to the Greek Gods; Easter egg; the trailer; image galleries; and a collectors’ booklet.

Hump Day & Chill

Elizabeth Berkley
as
Nomi Malone

Today we are going to Hump Day & Chill to a life lesson from Showgirls. "Yes" I said  Showgirls. Now pay attention all you social climbers out there here it is:

Pronunciation is important

If you’re just wanting to be Joe Shmoe, you can speak however you want. If you’re trying to impress by dropping names, however, you should probably know how to pronounce them. Anyone who has watched Showgirls knows that it’s “ver-SACH-ee,” not “ver-SAYS.” Learning how to pronounce other fashion labels, however, is up to you.

This is all you need to know...

Ballyhoo!

Ballyhoo!
Photo: Dennis Pike

For more than two decades, Ballyhoo! have been turning the restless energy of the Chesapeake coast into one of alternative music’s most feel-good and enduring success stories. The Maryland band’s "beach pop-punk" sound — a sun-soaked collision of pop punk, alt-rock, and massive singalong hooks — has carried them from clubs and festival stages across the U.S., Japan, and Canada to a fiercely loyal fanbase that keeps growing with every record and every tour. On August 28, Ballyhoo! will release their tenth studio album, Bad Summer, via Right Coast Records — a vibrant, hook-packed record that finds the band sounding bigger, sharper, and more confident than ever.

Produced by John Feldmann (Blink-182, Goldfinger, Avril Lavigne), Bad Summer represents a full-circle moment for Ballyhoo!, pairing the band with one of their earliest influences for what may be their most ambitious and accessible album to date. Across the album, Ballyhoo! double down on the punchy melodies, high-energy choruses, and undeniable melodic instincts that have defined their catalog from the start, while pushing their sound into a brighter, broader, and more explosive space.

“Ballyhoo! were a joy to work with,” says Feldmann. “They are all such incredible musicians and super open-minded, and we made an awesome album. I can’t wait for everyone to hear it. So stoked to be included in this musical masterpiece.”

That sense of excitement runs through every part of Bad Summer. While Ballyhoo! have always carved out their own lane, this record feels especially built to connect with fans of hook-heavy, feel-good alternative music — the kind of album that can sit comfortably alongside the pop-punk energy of Bowling for Soup, the ska-punk spirit of Less Than Jake, and the big-chorus summer immediacy of bands that know exactly how to turn catharsis into a party. It’s still unmistakably Ballyhoo!: loud, breezy, emotionally direct, and impossible not to move to. But there’s also a fresh immediacy here that makes the album feel like a genuine leap forward rather than simply a continuation of what came before.

The album release follows a string of standout singles that have already offered fans a taste of what’s ahead, including the title track “Bad Summer,” “Cali Girl II,” and the gloriously unfiltered “I Guess I’ll Go Fuck Myself.” The next preview, “Thunderstorms,” arrives July 31, further building momentum toward the full-length’s release.

Pre-save Bad Summer and stream the singles here:
badsummer.ballyhoorocks.com

If Ballyhoo!’s studio records capture the band’s charm, their live show is where that chemistry truly explodes. Their concerts are sweaty, celebratory, and relentlessly fun — the kind of sets that turn casual listeners into diehards by the final chorus. That reputation has earned them appearances on the Vans Warped Tour, Oceans Calling, and Punk Rock Holiday, along with support slots for 311, Reel Big Fish, Dirty Heads, and Less Than Jake.

This summer, Ballyhoo! will take that live energy overseas for the first time with performances at BrakRock and Punk Rock Holiday in Europe, before returning stateside for a fall tour with Bowling for Soup. The band is also set to appear on the 311 Caribbean Cruise, sailing March 10–15, 2027 from Miami to Jamaica and Grand Cayman.

For a band ten albums deep, Ballyhoo! sound anything but complacent. Bad Summer captures a group still pushing, still growing, and still chasing the kind of songs that can soundtrack both the best nights and the messiest mornings of summer. It’s a record built on everything Ballyhoo! have always done well — huge choruses, easy chemistry, and a sense of joy that never feels forced — but delivered with a renewed sense of purpose that makes this chapter feel especially significant.

Bad Summer arrives August 28 via Right Coast Records.

I Want Candy

Still Popping!
Pop Rocks

While shopping at the Soap Plant/Wacko in Los Feliz, CA yesterday for a Birthday card, to what did my wandering eyes did appear when I was checking out? None other than Pop Rocks, you know the candy that's pops in your mouth but not in your hands.

I didn't even know they still made them. Thus I had to go back in time to my youth and buy some in the original cherry flavor and experience them once more...

One thing I distinctly remember about imbibing in Pop Rocks is whilst they popped in my mouth I would always laugh. I wondered if partaking in them as a full fledged adult would effect me the same way?

Yep, I still laughed!!!

The People vs Larry Flynt

On August 4, the Academy Award-nominated serio-comic biopic The People vs. Larry Flynt makes its global 4K UHD debut. Director MiloÅ¡ Forman (Amadeus) and screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (Ed Wood) expose how Larry Flynt became an anti-censorship crusader, changing adult entertainment with Hustler magazine. The Limited 30th Anniversary Edition features a brand new 4K restoration from the original 35mm negative, hours of special features, and newly commissioned extras.

Larry Flynt (Woody Harrelson, Natural Born Killers) begins publishing a tantalizing newsletter to promote the dancers at his Hustler Go-Go club in Cincinnati. Encouraged by the overwhelming response, he turns it into a national magazine, setting out to challenge Playboy and Penthouse by pushing adult entertainment beyond its established boundaries. When Hustler publishes nude photos of a former First Lady, the magazine’s notoriety explodes.

As Hustler’s profile grows, Flynt becomes a high-profile target in the culture wars, facing obscenity charges and a series of legal battles over First Amendment rights. His fiercest allies are his dedicated attorney Alan Isaacman (Edward Norton, Fight Club) and Althea Leasure (Courtney Love, Man on the Moon), the former stripper who becomes his wife. The cast also includes Crispin Glover (Back to the Future), James Cromwell (Babe), Vincent Schiavelli (Ghost), Norm MacDonald (Saturday Night Live), and Larry Flynt in a surprise cameo. The People vs. Larry Flynt was Oscar nominated for Best Actor (Woody Harrelson) and Best Director (MiloÅ¡ Forman). Forman won the Golden Globe for Best Director.

Special features include a 4K (2160p) UHD Blu-ray presentation in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible); original lossless stereo audio and DTS-HD MA 5.1 surround audio option; optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing; archival audio commentaries with cast members Woody Harrelson, Courtney Love, and Edward Norton and screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski; brand new interviews with Woody Harrelson, screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, and others; an archival interview with cinematographer Philippe Rousselot; MiloÅ¡ Forman on The Charlie Rose Show; an archival making of the film featurette; an archival featurette on Larry Flynt narrated by Dennis Hopper (Blue Velvet); deleted scenes with optional audio commentary by Woody Harrelson and Larry Karaszewski; the theatrical trailer; TV spots; image galleries including the original script; and a collectors’ booklet.

"Carolina Liar"

Carolina Liar is the project of Charleston, SC native and Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter

Chad Wolf. After working for legendary songwriter Diane Warren and recording in Stockholm
with Max Martin — one of the biggest pop producers of all time — Wolf broke through with the
2008 Atlantic Records debut Coming to Terms, which spawned the double platinum-certified
"Show Me What I'm Looking For" and gold-certified "I'm Not Over." The songs soundtracked
The Hills, 90210, Gossip Girl, and What Happens In Vegas, and launched tours with Rob
Thomas, OneRepublic, Kelly Clarkson, and Gavin DeGraw. Outside of Carolina Liar, Wolf also
formed the alternative rock duo The Federal Empire with Grammy-nominated songwriter McKay
Stevens, whose songs remain a regular part of Carolina Liar's live sets.

"Show Me What I'm Looking For" went viral on TikTok in 2021 — generating over 70,000
creates and driving millions of daily Spotify streams at its peak — and still pulls over 144,000
streams per week with zero promotion eighteen years after its release, surpassing 169 million
total streams across platforms. Wolf has collaborated twice with Martin Garrix — on 2016's
"Hold On & Believe" featuring The Federal Empire, and 2024's "Smile," performing live during
Garrix's sold-out run at San Francisco's Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.

Now operating as a stripped-down two-piece with drummer Brian Ulery under the banner of
"Garage Gospel" — a raw reinvention built on honest songwriting, delivered with the intensity of
a sermon and the intimacy of a living room — Wolf is entering a new chapter. New single "I Am
King," out June 26th, is the first true expression of that direction. Carolina Liar's music is also
heading to the big screen in the upcoming comedy Concert Heroes, starring Chris Kattan and
Horatio Sanz, where the songs serve as the soundtrack for the film's fictional band and Wolf
makes a cameo appearance. A limited-edition vinyl re-release of Coming to Terms with
exclusive tracks is expected later this year.

Carolina Liar is currently touring the Midwest and performing at Summerfest 2026 on July 4th.
