Black Celebration

Happy Halloween Minions! I had a Black Celebration yesterday in honor of today. "Yes" I finally viewed the slasher film that heavily influenced everything from the original Halloween to When A Stranger Calls...Black Christmas!

Please don't confuse this 1974 original with any of the lame re-dos. This is one good slash fest with very little slashing, but heavy on the creepy atmosphere, not to mention an even creepier killer who has a thing for making obscene phone calls to the women in the sorority he is stalking.

This macabre outing was directed by Bob Clark who would go on to direct another Christmas movie the classic A Christmas Story. Hey, he's got a Santa fetish, or something I guess.

It stars Oliva Hussey of Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo & Juliet fame along with Margot Kidder best know as Lois Lane in the Superman movie.

Throw that in with some top notch camera work that set the standard for the slasher genre and well you've got one bangin' Christmas present I'll say! In fact I just did!

Let Christmas come a little early and treat yourself to this movie for Halloween...Boo!

The Bride Of Frankenstein

Will You Love Me Tomorrow?
Miranda Kerr & Frankenstein

Psssssst! One more day until Halloween! Thus I thought this spin on The Bride Of Frankenstein with Miranda Kerr and, well, Frankenstein captures the spirit (yeah, pun intended) of the season.

For the unfamiliar The Bride Of Frankenstein is a horror classic anchored by a great performance by Elsa Lanchester as the title character and Boris Karloff as Frankenstein.

While Miranda's take on the Bride is a lot lighter and more whimsical, it was enough take catch my eye (literally, seriously, I am now minus my right eye...NOT!) and post it for it's maniacal genius take on the legendary movie.

Thus enjoy your last day until darkness falls across the land and the celebrations of macabre commence!

Film Buff Friday: The Hills Have Eyes

"One of the prime examples of what was so fascinating about American horror films in the 1970s".

     —TV Guide

Horror master Wes Craven achieved critical and commercial success with the likes of Scream and A Nightmare on Elm Street - but for many genre fans, the director's seminal 1977 effort The Hills Have Eyes remains his masterpiece. Taking an ill-advised detour en route to California, the Carter family soon run into trouble when their campervan breaks down in the middle of the desert. Stranded, the family find themselves at the mercy of a group of monstrous cannibals lurking in the surrounding hills. With their lives under threat, the Carters have no choice but to fight back by any means necessary. Following on from his notorious 1972 directorial debut The Last House on the Left, Craven's The Hills Have Eyes stands alongside the likes of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Night of the Living Dead as one of the defining classics of American horror.

Hump Day & Chill

Never Look Back
Devon Sawa

Hello Minions it's the last Hump Day & Chill of October and the one just before Halloween. Thus you know what that means don't you? Another Horror Hunk, naturally.

With the Chucky TV series on USA/SyFy being the hot ticket this horror season what better object of our attention than one of it's stars, former child actor Devon Sawa. I wasn't aware of him until Chucky TBH, when I did see him in the premiere episode one word came to mind: Stud!

Devon can scare the pants off of me (literally) anytime he wants.

Here's a photo of Mr. Sawa shirtless for good measure (Yummy!)

Well now it's really that time again to Hump Day & Chill. All treat and no trick today.

Just Because...Dracula

Sucker
Dracula

Just Because in a scant five days it's Halloween, Just Because I saw the Francis Ford Coppola version on TV yesterday & Just Because I'm about to take flight I hereby bequeath you the original Dracula.

There was a time when Bela Lugosi wasn't dead and very much alive portraying the creature of the night.

I have seen it and it is quite well done with a lot of sneaky things thrown in to get past the censors. If you haven't viewed it and are a film buff sort of individual I suggest you do. It's got atmosphere to burn and a great performance by Mr. Lugosi.

Also it was directed by Tod Browning who also helmed the masterpiece Freaks.

So what are you waiting for?! Watch Dracula and watch it now!!!

Monday Mood

A Toast
Jennifer Tilly & Tiffany

As we head into the final days of October aka the remaining days until Halloween I am going to be feeling all things macabre. Tis the season time to revel as they all say (or is it me that says that?)

Thus Jennifer Tilly and her alter ego Tiffany (ya know from the Bride of Chucky) lounging by the pool drinking champagne captures my Monday Mood disturbingly well.

It's the right amount of chill, with some macabre thrown in and completely 100% certified (by me) cool 😎

Hey, being un-cool is the one thing you don't want this time of year, be there or be skewered.

Well Jennifer just invited me to come by and join her and Tiffany for a toast. So now I've got to pull myself together and get my Monday Mood started!

In One Week...

Halloween
1978/2018

With it being merely one week until Halloween (damn this month went fast!) I thought it fitting to pay mask service (see what I did there?) to my favorite movie of all time the original 1978 Halloween.

I remember seeing it in a theater and the audience screaming, gasping and yelling "get out of the house" or "run" at Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode. It was thrilling, and you know what? Halloween still holds up to this day. I watch it religiously every year.

What's that you say? Are you asking me to address the sequels and the current reboot? OK, here you go...

TBH I've only ever seen the sequels with Jamie Lee Curtis in them, and Halloween III, the Michael Myers less entry. Oh, and I turned Resurrection off after Laurie strode, was, well offed in the beginning (it's the only one I've seen on TV) I saw the others in a theater first including H20.

So let's get to the main question, how am I liking he current reboot? I enjoyed 2018 and the mask service it paid to the original and while the current sequel Halloween Kills is divisive among the fans, I took it for what it was, a homage to the original Halloween II sequel with Jamie Lee Curtis. Which has Laurie Strode sidelined in the hospital and was a straight up slasher film.

PS I don't think H20 holds up, contrary to popular opinion amongst the Minions. I saw it again this month so I do have a basis for this opinion.

But nothing will top the original 1978 film, ever! So if you'll excuse me tradition beckons. "Yes" I'm gonna get me some Halloween...Boo!

Star of stage, screen, podcast airwaves and beyond, scalding hot drag superstar Alaska Thunderfuck is about to get even “RED” hotter as she releases the second track from her forthcoming full length album, Red 4 Filth via PEG Records/Warner Music Group/ADA.  “beautiful (Night 4 a) breakdown”HERE written by Chester Krupa, Ferras, jesse saint john, Jordan Palmer, Justin Honard aka Alaska, Nick Laughlin, Stolar and produced by @ivanAndPeter, Stolar & Chester Krupa is filled with all the essential emotional ingredients as Alaska explains, “I live with hysteria, tantrums, and breakdowns on pretty much a daily basis.  So this is a beautiful dance anthem that is celebrating the liberating power that you can find by being comfortable and familiar with your inner demons, rather than trying to run from them or hide them.” Watch the official video HERE.

Red,”the first track HERE released from Red 4 Filth hailed by Billboard magazine HERE - Alongside being one of RuPaul's Drag Race's biggest stars, Alaska Thunderfuck knows how to put together a banger. Nowhere is that more clear than on "Red," the drag star's stunning new single. The song, which comes off of the star's upcoming album Red 4 Filth, is a thumping electro-pop banger through and through, with Alaska offering some stellar vocals (as well as her signature talk-singing in the song's second verse) to bring home this early-2000s-style bop.

“Red is the color of blood, and the heart, and the color of love. This song and this album are dedicated to the time when I first fell in love with music — around the turning of the century. We’re drawing upon the sounds and textures of the 90s and early 2000s, with pop songs that are about love and friendship. I love the music and I can’t wait to share it with you all.” says Alaska

The “Red 4 Filth” North American tour HERE is Alaska’s first-ever headlining tour and will feature her performing her entire new album along with other fan favorites with a barrage of sickening high fashion backup dancers (2000’s pop-star style) as well as feature her signature brand of comedy for a must-see show. Tickets are on sale HERE  with prices ranging from $20.00 for early GA & $25.00 for GA ADV to $95.00 for VIP/M&G and $249 for the Ultimate VIP experience.

”Call her a performer on the edge—not just in terms of style, but on the brink of ascending to a higher career echelon." – Queerty

In addition to Alaska being one of the most powerful and iconic Drag queens in the galaxy – her captivating story begins as a small-town kid raiding her grandma’s closet. My Name's Yours, What's Alaska?: A Memoir (Chronicle Books / $24.95 / November 9, 2021) is her intimate, alluring tell-all book releasing November 9. Pre-order HERE

Told with signature wit and charm, My Name's Yours, What's Alaska? is an unfiltered look at Alaska’s life and meteoric rise to fame. From childhood struggles to life lessons learned, the RuPaul’s Drag Race All Star shares the challenges, life-changing discoveries, and victories that paved her path to superstardom. Today, she’s a hit recording artist; global, in-demand performer; and heads a podcast network.

Of writing the book she says, "People have often asked me, ‘Alaska- if you were to ever write a book, what would it be about?’ The answer is simple- It would be about me, of course. In this book I plan to tell the T, the whole T, and nothing but the T— so help me Goddess. In telling my life story, from my birth until now, I hope to invite you into my world, to set the record straight, and to inspire the children of the world. Because if a poor skinny queer boy from Erie, Pennsylvania can grow up to be an extra-terrestrial starlet of stage and screen, then truly anus-thing is possible."

In addition to being an entertaining memoir, My Name's Yours, What's Alaska? is an honest, emotionally resonant, funny, and unapologetic celebration of queerness, self-expression, and authenticity. "We Are To Be Powerful, Beautiful And Without Regret"
Michael Shinafelt

Hello Minions, I am currently three episodes away from finishing Midnight Mass on Netflix. Thus you get vampire Michael landing this week.

"Yes" vampires and witches are a particular fixation of mine and thus I LOVE this time of year! Here's a fun fact about me, I wanted to be a vampire when I was a pre-teen, the more you know...

I'm loving the Chucky series on SyFy/USA 💓

I'm a lynx in the wild, yeah that's the ticket

Hump Day & Chill

Continuing with the season today's Hump Day & Chill is one Matt Bomer as Donovan from American Horror Story: Hotel featuring Lady Gaga as The Countess.

There's something about Matt, perhaps it's his chiseled jaw line, his dreamy eyes or maybe it is his supple booty (which I can not show on here, but you can Google.)

Whatever the case Matt was perfection as The Countesses sexually fluid Boy Toy in AHS: Hotel. Not to mention the copious amount of skin he flashes throughout.

Now that I've whet your appetite and since it's the time of year we watch things that go bump in the night. You may want to check into the "Hotel" with Matt for a Hump Day & Chill.

Cheers!

To All Of Us
Hailee Steinfeld

It's Tuesday October 19th 2021 and if you have made it to this point in the History of the world then you deserve a toast.

As 2021 is drawing to a close let's try to focus on what we have, rather than what we don't have. Treat each new day like an adventure and try (this one's tough for me) not to be cynical.

It's the little things in life that are actually the big ones. Trust me on this.

So join Me & Hailee Steinfeld in a cocktail won't you and toast to all of us!

Cheers!

"Evil Dies Tonight"

"Halloween Kills"

"He breathes, he kills" - Laurie Strode, Halloween Kills

This is my favorite teaser for Halloween Kills, and it is an accurate description of the film. "Yes" Minions there is a lot of killing in this installment of the Halloween franchise, I mean a lot! TBH I did laugh a handful of times at a couple of the kills, you know how sometimes when you watch a horror film the way someone is offed can actually be so over the top that...yep!

While I am not going to review it I promised yesterday that I would tell you what I thought so here goes. I enjoyed it, I didn't love it, but it was still fun and I got what I came for a good old fashioned slasher flick.

Also it paid homage to the original Halloween II with Jamie Lee Curtis, much like 2018's Halloween paid homage to the original.

Halloween II as you may recall had Jamie Lee's Laurie Strode sidelined in the hospital on the same night as her battle with Michael Myers. Likewise in Halloween Kills. Also Halloween II was basically a slasher flick with a body count, Halloween Kills follows suit.

Last but not least there was an angry mob outside of the Myers house in Halloween II, that idea takes center stage in Halloween Kills.

So there is my take on Halloween Kills Minions. Only 14 more days until, well you know!!!

What's New Pussycat?

Meow!
Vanessa Hudgens

Thus the countdown to Halloween continues with a scant 15 days left till the High Holy Day. Here is another of my favorite celebrity Season of the Witch costumes, why it's none other than Vanessa Hudgens as the Michelle Pfeiffer version of Catwoman from Batman Returns.

She captioned this awesome pic on Instagram: "Who needs a Batman when u can have a Batdog"

Cute, but not nearly as fetching as Hudgens is in the get up, she really gives Michelle Pfeiffer a run for her money donning the same Pussycat garb.

Speaking of Halloween, catching Halloween Kills today, whether fans like it or not there is one thing they all seem to agree on - It's the most violent Halloween film in the series.

I will let you know my thoughts tomorrow, in the meantime stay spooky!

Film Buff Friday: I Spit On Your Grave

"A vile bag of garbage without a shred of artistic distinction. Attending it was one of the most depressing experiences of my life."

     —Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun Times

Camille Keaton (What Have You Done to Solange?, Tragic Ceremony) stars as Jennifer Hills, a young and beautiful career woman who rents a backwoods cabin to write her first novel. Attacked by a group of local lowlifes and left for dead, she devises a horrific plan to inflict revenge in some of the most unforgettable scenes ever shot on film.

In 1978, one film changed the face of cinema forever. Now, four decades later, the original and notorious I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE (aka 'Day of the Woman') is back and still refusing to be buried! In this new special edition Blu-ray, you can re-experience the phenomenon that shocked and divided the world - and influenced an entire genre and generation of filmmakers - with a new 4K HD scan and restoration of director Meir Zarchi's 35mm original camera negative and a newly restored original mono soundtrack.
