Season 23. Here We Go...

The Final Countdown???
Mariska Hargitay

Seldom does an Instagram post excite me, but this one of Mariska Hargitay on set of Law & Order SVU season 23 that she posted last week on does, so there!

It's my all time favorite show and I have seen all of the episodes at least twice. Hey, who doesn't love those SVU marathons on the weekends? I ask you, I'm waiting, OK, moving on.

Presently this season is the one before what is currently scheduled to be the last season 24. However my Spidey Sense tells me there just might could be one or two more seasons past that.

For now thought let's live in the moment. I am happy to see that filming is currently underway for a September debut.

That's all, that's the memo. Move along now...

Film Buff Friday: The Night Of The Hunter

Here's a classic movie that I have yet, but want to see The Night of the Hunter. Described as "A spellbinding, nightmarish, fairytale film like no other" the plot goes something like this:

"A religious fanatic marries a gullible widow whose young children are reluctant to tell him where their real daddy hid the $10,000 he'd stolen in a robbery"

From what this writer hears there's way more to it than that, and it's quite the ride! After reading my buddy Jay Jacobson's write-up on his classic movie blog I must say I'm now all in and am actively seeking out how I can watch this gem.

What's that you say? Oh, of course you get to read what I read that made me so interested in viewing it. All you have to d is click on the link below and enjoy your weekend Minions!

Hump Day & Chill

Michael Fairman

Michael Fairman’s Shot at Music Stardom is

                      “Better Late Than Never”

In “Better Late Than Never,” Michael Fairman responds to those who believe he has missed his chance at attaining his music dreams.  Written and produced by Fairman and Kyle Mangels, “Better Late Than Never” is a soulful groove song, the likes of Tinashe, that combines the classic R&B harmonies of a Stevie Wonder tune with the Pop/R&B feel of a modern-day Nick Jonas track. The song’s message is simple yet profound: if you believe, you can achieve.  “If you want something bad enough, isn’t it worth trying for it rather than forever wondering, ‘what if’?” Fairman asks.  It’s an appeal that has special relevance today as the world prepares for the Olympic games.  It reminds listeners that sometimes, in order to reach one’s goal, you must first endure heartache, pain, negativity, and disappointment.

“I originally considered calling the song ‘Hail, Mary’,” Michael Fairman continues from his Los Angeles apartment. “Unfortunately, it didn’t fit vocally with the song, but I love the analogy: it’s the final moments of a football game and there are mere seconds left on the clock, and the quarterback must throw the ball into the end zone and pray his receiver catches it.  Nine times out of ten, the ball will be dropped, and the game is lost. But if it’s miraculously caught, you score, and it’s victory!”

“Better Late Than Never” builds on Michael Fairman’s previous releases, “Thing About Me” “Can’t Let You Go” and “Other Side”; three songs about the seemingly insurmountable challenges faced by the underdog, whether at love or in life. Michael’s songs are often-anthemic in nature and while they reflect on the harsh realities of the human condition, they offer positive messages of inspiration that can fit into listeners’ own life stories, encouraging them to feel and know that they are not alone.

“As a man in mid-life trying to get my music heard, I know about climbing mountains,” says Fairman. “I am told multiple times a week that this is a pipe dream, but I don’t let it stop me.  I’m proud to be representing boomers.  It may have taken me an extra thirty years than it did Shawn Mendes to get to this point, but my life experience makes me more confident now in my craft as a singer-songwriter.  I know my strengths and weaknesses, and how to deliver a potential hit song, so I guess it truly is, ‘Better Late Than Never’.”

Michael Fairman grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Music was always his passion and first love.  As a teen, he released his first recordings through a small label in Chicago.   Once he graduated high school, he moved to Los Angeles and then to New York to pursue his career as a recording artist.  He formed a band to back him.  They performed in clubs, recorded, and tried to get the A&R reps from the record labels to come out to his showcases, but due to a myriad of excuses, they seldom came. The rejection and the financial drain eventually convinced Fairman he needed a major change.  He put music on hold and moved back to Los Angeles where he began a career in TV Production and entertainment journalism.

“The time wasn’t right, but that doesn’t mean I can’t try again,” Michael Fairman says. “Back then, artists were at the mercy of someone seeing them live in order to land that major label deal.  In today’s digital age, artists can put out their music for the world to hear and decide if it fits their musical tastebuds.”

Michael is ready to lay it all on the line.  Even a pandemic won’t stop him.  When he and his team went to record “Better Late Than Never” in early spring, commercial studios were still closed due to Covid restrictions. Fairman recorded all the vocals from his apartment while Kyle Mangles engineered the single from his home studio.

It’s why Fairman names one particular line in the song as his favorite:  Don’t want to be left behind, because I’m working overtime. “We’re all on the clock, life is going by, and for some, things come easier than others.  Figuring out how to make things work with the technology available during Covid threw a bit of a curveball my way, but we worked through it. I learned so much from the process, grew as an artist, and the fact that this song sounds just as good as if we cut it in a studio makes me realize that when the time is right, one can be unstoppable.”

Michael Fairman’s “Better Late Than Never” is being distributed independently and is available on Apple Music and Spotify.  Follow Michael Fairman on TwitterInstagramFacebook, and YouTube.

Monday Motivation

Motivated
Michael Shinafelt

Well I finally did it, after months of struggling to lose the 28lbs. I had gained over the past year during this ongoing Pandemic, I finally broke the 203lb mark. That's correct Minions I am now 197lbs...Yay!

This is giving me all the Monday Motivation I need to keep it up. It's hard when you lose two and gain them back to not get discouraged. But when you lose 6 and drop below the 200lb mark, well then, you've hit the motivation jackpot!

Results that will finally put my headspace in the zone it needs to be for me to keep on keeping.

What's in your headspace?

Clean Your Beach Up!

Beach Bums
Adrien Grenier & Katherine McPhee

Remember when your mother told you to "clean your act up?!" Well with climate change she just might tell you to "clean your beach up!"

Well apparently Adrien Grenier & Katherine McPhee do what their Momma tells them. They took to the beaches of Malibu for a clean up event hosted by Shiseido Blue.

Clean-up tools in hand they scoured for litter and other such beach debris all in an effort to save our environment and to try and stop climate change in the name of love for our planet.

So what's on your agenda to save the world???

Threesome

The Three Musketeers!

Here's the first photo to come from Jennifer Lopez & Ben Affleck's inner circle celebrating Jen's bestie Leah Remini's 51st Birthday, that must have been some party!

Jen had her hand on Ben's chest and a fierce look on her face. Ben kept one arm around each of the women, but kept his hand firmly on J.Lo's shoulder as they stared down the camera.

"Wanted to share a little video from my birthday with you all because I got so much love from you on my birthday but also everyday," Leah "captioned the post on July 22. "I consider myself to have the best support system here on social media. Also, I can't thank my family & friends enough for coming, for celebrating with me in a way that was very special to me."

Yep, it's the threesome with the most cake...

Coco Zandi of Wild Child

CocoZandi of Wild Child goes solo

Debut album "As Simple As A Dream" on OneRPM coming August 27th

1950s Hawaiian and exotica records with a modern twist

Better known (for now) as Alexander Beggins, half of the duo Wild ChildCoCo Zandi makes music inspired by an acute love of the sound and vibe of 1950s Hawaiian and exotica records, chased with a modern twist. Armed with his trusty baritone ukulele, an irrepressible crooning swagger, a tablespoon of steel drums plus a pinch of electro 808s, and his trio of backup sirens known as The Coquettes, CoCo Zandi’s forthcoming debut album As Simple As A Dream explores themes of love and loss and all that jazz, but always with a smirk on the lips and a half-empty (half-full!) piña colada in hand.

The first single, Time To Get Awaywill be released on July 15th.

Zandi says, "We all felt it deep in our bones, bubbling up like a rush of blood to the head, an indescribable angst to skip dodge, get out of town, and break away from the shackles of our respective quarantine lives. I'm used to being on the move. After a decade of shows on the road I found myself struggling to stay still. Time To Get Away is an ode to that unforgettable moment in time. Sometimes simplicity in writing can convey the loudest message. I think it is, indeed, time to get away. "

He continues:

“Kelsey [Wilson] and I have been writing music together for almost a decade, which completely blows my mind,” says Beggins. “We've been writing songs together for a third of my entire life. Ever since the first song we wrote together, there was magic and palpable chemistry. We both bring something unique to the song writing equation. And we both have very different tastes in music, which I think makes our music unique. We pull from such different inspirations and listen to very different music so when we sit down to write together we create something new. If there was a Kelsey and Alexander venn diagram the overlap is Wild Child. But now, with our new projects we can give the other sides names: Sir Woman and CoCo Zandi. Listening to each of the projects, you get a sense of how Wild Child was born with both of our musical DNA. We will always have Wild Child, and we'll be making records together until we're old and wrinkly, but I think we've found how important it is to have separate outlets as well. It's refreshing and makes us better musicians and people.”

CoCo Zandi started out as a byproduct of an identity crisis. It was 2019, and Wild Child had just finished an arduous tour for their fourth LP Expectations and their souls were tired. They'd been grinding for a decade and they were feeling it. It was clear they needed a break.

Zandi says, "I had always wanted to make a solo record but it never felt like the right time. In some ways it felt too daunting. I was too comfortable and complacent but all the sudden I found myself with a lot of time and a lot to say. As Simple As A Dream is a record about finding my own voice, written from a place of trying to understand my place in the world. I like records that have a good narrative. Records where you feel a full spectrum of emotions, like watching a really good flick where you find yourself smiling and before you know it, crying. As Simple As A Dream should take you on an excellent roller coaster ride of emotions. And if nothing else, it's good music for a beach/pool day."

As Simple As A Dream, Zandi's debut solo album, was produced by Walker Lukens and recorded at Public Hi-Fi in Austin TX.

Hump Day & Chill

Richard Gere

A little while back I was having lunch with a friend at my favorite local Square One Dining. When this Silver Fox in a mask walked in, he oozed sex appeal out of every pore of his being. He sat at the table adjacent to me and my friend, when he removed his mask I kept thinking there was something familiar about him. Then it hit me Richard Gere was sitting next to us.

This of course got me thinking about his high profile controversial role in Paul Schrader's American Gigolo. It featured something rare in American Films, full frontal nudity courtesy of it's leading man, Richard Gere, naturally.

Of course I then wondered if Tye Briggs had done a piece on this particular film for his Favorite Hunks & Other Things blog. Guess what? He did!!!

Thus today Minions we are going to Hump Day & Chill to Mr. Gere baring it all as the American Gigolo. Hey, that's what gigolos do, take off their clothes.

Send in the Clowns

Clowning Around
David Arquette

Here we are another week, another Monday. Thus I thought to myself "Self let's send in the clowns!"

The clowns are brought to you by one David Arquette sporting, what else? A clown sweater, naturally...

While I know there are those of you who might be afraid of clowns, and those of you who do not think they are funny, they are still colorful and lighten the mood nonetheless.

If that doesn't do it for you, there is also Mr. Arquette who I saw play Dr. Frank-N-Furter in a production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show in Los Angeles. "Yes" he was SAF in the role and he is the same IRL.

Yeah, there's that, now tell me why you don' like Mondays - Hmmmmmm?!?!

Since the Nation's weather is hot, hot, hot I just knew I had to commemorate it right here, right now...

Thus I present one vintage shot of Actress Mia Farrow taking her ice cream cone from behind and looking mighty sultry while engaging in the activity.

Not sure what she was thinking when this photo was shot, but it looks like something, well, naughty quite frankly.

The Addams Family

"Their creepy and their kooky,
Mysterious and spooky, Their all together ooky
The Adams family..." - The Addams Family Theme Song

Nostalgia is my vibe today and it's gonna stay that way. I wanted to share how excited I am that local Los Angeles station ME-TV has brought back The Addams Family weekdays at 6 pm! Yay!

While the show originally aired one year prior to my birth it was in re-runs constantly during my youth.

I always dug the Addams clan, I'm pretty sure it was some sort of connection to my feeling like an outsider. They definitely made me feel seen.

The infamous Wednesday Addams is one of my spirit animals.

Many of you, like me enjoy the weekend. However I can't wait for the return of Monday because at 6 pm you know what I'll be doing. OK, I could possibly be doing something else and recording it, but you get the drift.

Don't Go Gentle

Don't Go Gentle: A Film About IDLES

Coming to Blu-ray, DVD, and digital platforms on August 6th

“A touching portrait of fandom done right... Proof that bands can still change your life” ★★★★ NME

Don’t Go Gentle: A film about IDLES is a 75 minute feature film about finding strength in vulnerability. It journeys through the critically acclaimed Bristol band’s determination, friendship and adversity as they fight for a place in a divided socio-political environment, unexpectedly inspiring and unifying an international community along the way.

The film, which was directed by Mark Archer and received 4 star reviews in NME and Time Out London, will be screening across the UK and Ireland starting July 2nd. It will then be widely available on Blu-ray, DVD, and VOD on August 6th.

Don’t Go Gentle captures the 10 year journey of IDLES’ struggle, grief and resolve. Exploring their vulnerabilities through their experience, lyrics and sound, we learn the reasons why these five individuals have connected with legions of people across the world. We see just how that relationship unfolds in the most courageous and positive of human ways.

In a time when the ground is shifting beneath our feet, where open communication and truthful reflection are more vital than ever, we journey with lead singer Joe Talbot and the band as they tear across stages, knocking down stereotypes, empowering fans to talk about mental health and the realities we may not feel comfortable to speak about.

10 Random Questions: J.R. Price

Musical Artist J.R. Price has a mission, he wants to make everyone feel beautiful and inspire others to chase their dreams. This Out Bear has a new single Golden Hour dropping today.

Oh and BTW - J.R. is here to respond to 10 Random Questions from yours truly...hit it J.R!

1) Golden Hour?

JR: I am so excited for this to be the title of my next single! After releasing my album “Daydream” I feel so awake, I am in the golden hour now in my life. I am focused on the future, and the sun is rising on so many new and exciting opportunities for me. That moment in the morning where everything is at peace. It’s beautiful. The song itself is about remembering someone you love and focusing on all the good times, I think that’s the secret to life. Focusing on the positive over the negative. Make every hour a Golden Hour!

2) Bears?

JR  As a bear/cub, in the gay community I have to say I am so thrilled to have a common brotherhood. Just knowing I’m not alone in this crazy world is a really wonderful thing  I have a family. It’s not the one I was born into. But it is exactly what I want and need.

3) Crop Tops?

JR:  The most comfortable fashion choice I’ll ever make. I am a large man, and I get really hot and sweaty super fast… so I throw on a crop and all those worries are gone. I mean, why does it have to be a statement for a big guy to show his stomach?  idk!?!? But I do know they are fun and cute and they will always be in my wardrobe!

4) Dreams?

JR: I think it’s fascinating that we have the ability to dream. To think of ways to flourish beyond our current realities. I love the power to mold my own destiny. I can do anything. Be anything. And so can each of you. It’s exciting. At any given second you can absolutely change everything about your life… with hard work, determination, and will power…. Sure…. But it all starts with a dream. Therefore dreams are more important and powerful than. Anything else!

The "Golden Hour"
J.R. Price

5)
Music?

JR: The only escape from the hell of this world is music! When you turn on a bop, it puts you in a euphoric state that isn’t possible in the same way in reality. In the real world things are hard, people hold you back, the past weighs you down… but when your jam comes on… you gotta get up and dance…. That’s outstanding and thrilling!

6) The Loch Ness Monster?

JR: Haha! Good question! I think it’s sad that the Loch Ness Monster has this horrible reputation, and I think they are probably really lonely, and every time they reach out for a friend it’s disgusting judge mental humans who won’t try to understand them… I think we can all relate to the LNM! Have more compassion friends!

7) Body Positive?

JR: My first professional release and one of the most important messages in this world. Everyone should be proud of their bodies, the shape, the size, the color, the perfections and the flaws! We are all gorgeous and unique! Showcase who you are to the world. I think it’s so heartbreaking what self esteem does to ruin people’s potential! Have confidence! I promise, that is the key! Stay positive lovey!

8) Dancing?

JR: The exhilaration and get when I move my body in time to lyrical expression, is incomparable to anything else on earth. The connection that is created to another artist, the way my heart pounds, the way I feel so alive… I recommend everyone dances more. Maybe we would have more love for each other if we allowed ourselves to experience that joy more often! Dance like no one is watching, or better yet… dance like they are and live for it!

9) Margaritas?

JR: I wasn’t a big drinker before the pandemic, but I have to say the more the drinks taste like slushies the more I enjoy them haha! I don’t like putting gross things in my mouth… just tasty things I enjoy and consent to! 🤣

10) Tik Tok?

JR: This is probably my favorite platform! It allows creative content to be seen all around. The world. Anyone can become viral, if they have a truly great idea, and most of the comments are positive. It’s a very forward thinking and positive reflection of humanity. I love to post dance vids or funny antidotes for the monotonous chaos of the world around me. Sometimes it’s ok to just want to laugh or be thirsty… TikTok is a great break! Mine is @jrpriceless follow me! All my links are at jrprice.org  And all my music is available on all platforms!

This was so much fun! Thanks for having me! 🐻🤗

Just Because...Think Pink

Think Pink
Lizzo

Just Because it's Sunday Funday, Just Because I'm in an indescribable head space & Just Because, well, ya know, think pink...that's correct Minions look it's Lizzo with pink hair!!! Woot!

Lizzo recently debuted her new hue for karaoke night at Dreux's Louisiana French Quarter in Los Angeles.

She also sports and airbrushed shirt with an image that appears to be her as per usual non-pink self. Essentially giving us two Lizzo looks simultaneously. That Lizzo, what a giver she is.

There really isn't much more to say regarding this, except Bend It Like Lizzo and remember this: The World Is Yours!!!

Saturday Sinema: All About Eve

Here's IMHO is one of the best movies of all time, All About Eve. It's been a while since I have viewed this brilliant piece of cinema but it goes something like this:

"Backstage story revolving around aspiring actress Eve Harrington. Tattered and forlorn, Eve shows up in the dressing room of Broadway mega-star Margo Channing, telling a melancholy life story to Margo and her friends. Margo takes Eve under her wing, and it appears that Eve is a conniver that uses Margo"

This film notably stars the great Bette Davis with an early memorable cameo by Marilyn Monroe.

Let me now leave you in the very capable hands of my buddy Jay Jacobson and his Classic Movie Blog. Hit the link below for all the juicy details about this masterpiece...
