Season 23. Here We Go...

The Final Countdown???

Seldom does an Instagram post excite me, but this one of Mariska Hargitay on set of Law & Order SVU season 23 that she posted last week on does, so there!

It's my all time favorite show and I have seen all of the episodes at least twice. Hey, who doesn't love those SVU marathons on the weekends? I ask you, I'm waiting, OK, moving on.

Presently this season is the one before what is currently scheduled to be the last season 24. However my Spidey Sense tells me there just might could be one or two more seasons past that.

For now thought let's live in the moment. I am happy to see that filming is currently underway for a September debut.

Now genre fans can gain access to a film library of shocking underground, outrageous gore, creature features, cult classics and much more. Those with a taste for the weirdest and wildest reaches of genre cinema will not be disappointed!   "The bigger platforms are catering to the masses and have gone puritanical in many cases, making it very difficult for filmmakers to reach their audience," says Ed Seaman, C.O.O. of MVD ENTERTAINMENT GROUP. Just Because he's The Sundance Kid, Just Because she's Carrie White & Just Because they have a new movie The Old Man & The Gun hitting theaters September 28th. Heeeeere's Robert Redford & Sissy Spacek!

These were two of the biggest movie stars of my youth. Both of them essayed many great films and roles. Well they are back in a big way damn it with a movie that goes like this: 

"Based on the true story of Forrest Tucker (Robert Redford), from his audacious escape from San Quentin at the age of 70 to an unprecedented string of heists that confounded authorities and enchanted the public. Wrapped up in the pursuit are detective John Hunt (Casey Affleck), who becomes captivated with Forrest's commitment to his craft, and a woman (Sissy Spacek), who loves him in spite of his chosen profession."

And aren't you happy? I know I am. It will be great to see the first time pairing of these two, "yes" it's their first time peeps. This is what we would refer to as epic in my days of yore, the source material pretty much seems like a slam dunk for this duo.

Yes, it the offspring of Cindy Crawford & Randy Gerber, I am guessing they get their looks from good ole Supermodel mom. Kaia does fer sure as she is the mirror image of Cindy. Presley resembles a prettier version of his father, who is no slouch in the looks department either.

Some kids have all the luck, being born into money, opportunity not to mention being lookers and such.

While I have never really been into the whole Royal Family thing with the exception of Princess Diana, I do have a passing interest in Meghan Markle.

The thing I think that intrigues me about her is, she is an actress dating Prince Harry. Actresses' aren't the usual cup of tea for Royals, that's for sure.

She is also racially mixed. Which is way atypical for a Royal to be courting. She said this about it: "My dad is Caucasian and my mom is African-American ... I have come to embrace [this and] say who I am, to share where I'm from, to voice my pride in being a strong, confident, mixed-race woman."

You go Meghan! The photo of her was taken recently at the Invictus Games in Toronto where not coincidentally Prince Harry was attending too.

Even though fall doesn't officially begin until September 22, Labor Day marks the end of summer symbolically because it is the last holiday weekend of the season.

That being said while summer is headed into the twilight stage, the summer weather will go on with all of 2017'a crazy heat waves.

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale...OK, not really. But hey it's Friday and guess what that means? It's September 1st! Kidding, but it really is the 1st of September but that's not what Friday means. 

Friday always means it's wine o'clock, not all day, but at least in the evening. This particular one I am doing my monthly wine & nosh get together with my friend Scott Jacobs and boy am I needing it after the jacked week I have had and the truncated day that today is going to be!

Let's put it this way, they are spraying for bugs in my apartment today so I have to vacate for three hours. When I get home there will be a lot of cleaning up to do a chore I despise more then anything. Thus I get to spend my day getting things presentable for my evening. Good times...not!

Although I do not possess a wine glass as big as Amy Schumer's I am sure that my person will drink an amount of wine tonight that could fill a couple of those monsters.

It's September 1st already can you fathom that?! We are at the final four months of 2016, September to December flies by quick, always...and you know what that means, Christmas is drawing nigh!

Let's kick off the month with a photo of Eva Longoria directing an episode of Jane The Virgin in Los Angeles. Yep, Eva is like a virgin directing her very first episode of the CW show, but not directing for the very first time.

Eva is smart, that's one of the things I have always liked about her. She is aware her acting career has a shelf life and has set herself up for continued employment beyond it.

Back To "Earth" - David Bowie

"You're face to face with the man who fell to earth"

It's really no secret I am a huge David Bowie fan, I mean fuck, he was my first concert ever! Well guess what's happening now? The Man Who Fell To Earth is turning the big 4-0 and getting a restoration...!!!

For those of you out of the loop it's a cult/indie/critically acclaimed piece of art in which Bowie portrays an alien on earth, thus it's title.

Because of Bowie I became a Nicolas Roeg fan. This film was unlike anything I had ever seen before, I can't even begin to describe all of my reactions to it in a few words, but as an impressionable fan of cinema and David Bowie, the passion I feel for this production is to the moon and back.

Of special interest to fans of Ziggy Stardust, the 40th Anniversary of the Sci-Fi opus will see the release of the soundtrack for the very first time, like a virgin.

The Man Who Fell to Earth arrives in theaters on September 9 and will be released on DVD/blu-ray on October 24.

"Hooked" on ?6

I'm "Hooked"

OK, how can anything get any more enigmatic than the recent batch of teasers for American Horror Story Season 6?! We have a poster with the moniker "Hooked" and a new teaser that appears to be a botched alien abduction that gives a whole new twist on the "Bend & Snap" routine from Legally Blonde.

The only concrete thing we know about this season which premieres Wednesday September 14th, merely a few scant weeks away, on FX is this: It's set in the lost colony of Roanoke and explains "what happened" AHS style....other than that, who knows what the Hell that is going to be.

Personally I love that they are keeping this season a complete mystery. I have seen some restlessness from fans of the show on the web who want to know, and want to know now! Well, take a valium Veruca Salt and enjoy the fun leading up to the premiere like me!

How apropos that there is now a film that premiered at the Toronto Film Festival affectionately known as TFF titled: September of Shiraz.

On the completely irreverent side and off the wall state of things the after party was sponsored by Grey Goose Vodka. Yeah the wine companies that produce Shiraz really took a snooze on this promotional opportunity.

But hey it produced a really rocking image of  two totally hot and sexy stars and one very talented one - Gerard Butler, Salma Hayek and Adrien Brody combined to make a pretty compelling threesome at the premiere.

Hey, Gerard if you are going to be at any other film festivals in the near future please let myself and author M.E. Franco know, we're here for you!

They're Here To Make You Rock - Hollywood Vampires

Johnny Depp will get to play rock star with two past collaborators and rock legends.

The movie star has formed a supergroup  Hollywood Vampires, with the original Marilyn Manson Alice Cooper and Aerosmith lead guitarist Joe Perry. The band will perform its first major gig at the 2015 Rock in Rio music festival that will take place in September in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, they have also recorded an album.

"Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp have been partners for a while and now with Joe Perry also on Hollywood Vampires, they will 'rock it out' yet once again."  Alice Cooper stated.

The name of the supergroup is an homage to The Hollywood Vampires, a posse of famous musicians who used alcohol as their method of initiation back in the '70s, according to the festival's statement and Rolling Stone. The "Lair of the Hollywood Vampires" was the famed Rainbow Bar and Grill in West Hollywood. Cooper, The Who's Keith Moon, The Beatles' John Lennon and Ringo Star and Harry Nilsson were among the members.

I've been to the Rainbow Bar and Grill - guess that makes me an alcohol sucker too!
