David J

A new album from David J (Bauhaus, Love and Rockets) entitled, Tracks From the Attic Revisited is confirmed for release on May 22 from Independent Project Records (IPR) and will be available in black or gold colored vinyl, CD, and all digital formats and can be pre-saved here. The first single from the album, “If Muzak Be the Junk Food of Love,” will be available April 15 and can be preordered here.

Reshaped, sometimes rewritten, and now reinterpreted with a full band, the ten tracks that make up Tracks From the Attic Revisited are culled from the 37(!)-track home recordings on Tracks From the Attic released in 2024, also from IPR. These new, fully fleshed out versions are an arresting distillation of David J’s eclectic taste which includes late ‘70s New Wave, a lifelong love of classic country music, and Nick Drake-like romanticism.

“The 2024 demos tracks that became Tracks From the Attic were like neglected little seeds that had been set aside, or fallen on fallow land,” said David J. “They’ve since been gathered up, nurtured, tended and brought back to life as little buds for Tracks From the Attic Revisited. Now this is the bloom.”

When he first went digging through boxes of old tapes, David J didn’t yet know that he was about to embark on a long, fruitful conversation with his own past, present, and even future self. As he uncovered demos recorded over some four decades, he noticed that some songs were asking him to get reacquainted with them. He eventually complied, approaching material that sometimes he had no recollection of having written as when producing another artist’s music.

The old home recordings became new demos for Revisited: ideas reworked and sometimes radically transformed, lyrics adjusted when they showed a potential to narrate life in the not-so-roaring 2020s. Thus reshaped, the songs were shared with a stellar combo that convened in the studio to breathe new life into them. Some are virtually unrecognizable, while some have kept their original form and charm intact – just developed and grown through the experience that comes with years of music making.

Where the original Tracks From the Attic invited listeners to be present in the room as a young singer-songwriter found his own way (wandering in the fields of experimentation and collecting the meanderings that followed), the new album puts us in front of an artist who has honed his craft and mastered the art of pruning. Indeed, David J compares the making of Tracks From the Attic Revisited to the tending of a garden.

Recorded at Ear Gallery Music in Los Angeles and produced by David J, Tracks From the Attic Revisited musicians include David J (vocals, acoustic guitar), Jason Roberts (Spoon, Daniel Johnston) (guitar), Jon Bernstein (piano, organ), Tony Green (bass), David Raven (Steve Earle, Keith Richards, Lucinda Williams, etc.) (drums), Dan Clucas (trumpet), Robert “Smokey” Miles (Bob Dylan) (accordion), John Courage (lap steel) and Stephen Perkins (Jane’s Addiction) (congas).

Known for their unique musical sensibilities and extraordinary artwork & design, Independent Project Records is a favorite of record collectors and music fans alike for their bespoke packaging and attention to detail. Grammy-nominated founder Bruce Licher’s graphic design and his hand-letterpress packaging have been a mainstay in music circles since 1982’s Tragic Figures from Savage Republic. Since that time, the label has released seminal albums and singles from artists as diverse as Savage Republic, Alison’s Halo, Human Hands, Kommunity FK, Camper Van Beethoven, Scenic, For Against, Deception Bay, Half String, Autumnfair, The Dentists, Tone, WOO, Stereolab and more. Since the label’s relaunch in 2020, IPR has released new music, lost albums, reissues with bonus tracks on digital, compact disc and vinyl formats for a variety of artists including A Produce, Afterimage, Alison Clancy, David J, Half String, Bruce Licher, Greg Lisher, Jeffrey Runnings, The Ophelias, Red Temple Spirits, Savage Republic, Scenic, Shiva Burlesque, Springhouse, Torn Boys, WOO and multiple various artist compilations. Coming up in 2026 are new titles and expanded reissues from David J, Driveway Ceiling, Kommunity FK, Middle Class and more.

Hump Day & Chill

Kesha is having a great run presently with her hit album Period and a sold out tour, it's the comeback story everyone loves.

Today however we are going to Hump Day & Chill to her being an outspoken individual with a wicked sense of humor.

Seems like the Cretins in the White House decided to use her song Blow for a video of bombings. Yep, pretty repellent.

Thus she Tweeted this gem to them:

"Stop using my music, perverts"

Ha ha ha ha ha! Think about it, but not too much...

The Sh-Booms!

Photo: James Hand

Orlando’s premier soul-rocking nonet The Sh-Booms return on February 18th with “This Is a Test,” their first new recorded music since 2019 and the title track from their forthcoming EP This Is a Test. The EP will be released digitally and as a limited-run 12” vinyl, available at the band’s upcoming Florida release shows this March and everywhere else on March 10.

This Is a Test,” says bandleader and bassist Alfred Ruiz“is a sci-fi vision of two astronauts on a collision course in the cosmic ocean. As they delve into the great unknown they enter euphoric intergalactic love — but a treacherous mission may lay waste to the path forward. This is a test… now hold your breath.”

Clocking in at over six and a half minutes, the title track signals a bold creative shift. Blending New Wave textures, post-punk lock-grooves, funk-driven vocoder passages, and widescreen space-rock builds, the song captures the emotional push and pull of new love with cinematic scale and dancefloor urgency. Produced by Grammy-nominated engineer Alan Armitage (Boyz II Men) at his Orlando studio The Snake Arcade, and mastered by Grammy Award-winner Emily Lazar (Beck, Vampire Weekend, Minus the Bear) at The Lodge Mastering in New York, the single marks a major sonic expansion for the band.

"A Place In Time"

Long Island, NY — Progressive rock quartet Dhärä return today with their expansive new single “A PLACE IN TIME, (the entities, divided)”, offering the next glimpse into their forthcoming full-length album Elemental Four, arriving January 11, 2026.

Known for their immersive instrumental storytelling and dynamic compositions, Dhärä continue to push beyond strict genre boundaries on “A PLACE IN TIME, (the entities, divided).” The track unfolds with patience and atmosphere before erupting into driving rhythms, soaring guitar interplay, and a powerful sense of momentum—highlighting the band’s signature balance between precision, emotion, and scale.

The band shares: "This is the opening of our concept album Elemental Four. "A PLACE IN TIME, (the entities, divided)" introduces many themes that are heard throughout the album. This album is also a concert movie that features five ballerinas who perform modern lyrical dance to the music. Elemental Four is a journey of four entities whose world is shaken by a meteor which threatens their existence. They are separated by a great earthquake, and the only path to saving the planet and themselves is to unify and summon The Conduit, whose power can hopefully vanquish the threat."

Since forming in 2015, Dhärä have been steadily carving out a distinct voice within progressive and instrumental rock. Based in Long Island, New York, the band has released an EP, standalone singles, eclectic music videos, and even a coordinated custom light show—embracing a fully DIY ethos from recording and production to visuals and live presentation. This new single marks another step forward in what the band describes as only the beginning.

Critics have consistently praised Dhärä for their virtuosity, atmosphere, and cinematic approach:

“The way the song is sort of divided into two parts is really interesting, with a skyrocketing shift in dynamic and tempo about halfway through… There’s also a little bit more prog in Dhärä’s DNA, which might make people think more of projects like Skyharbor or The Helix Nebula.”
— Michael Whiteside, Deputy Editor, Fecking Bahamas

“The guitars in this track create an absolutely captivating atmosphere and an inspiring arrangement… irresistible riffs and melodies unfold, combined with intense drive and concentrated energy.”
— Indie Tapes Blog/Playlist

“Playful and versatile… incredible virtuosity… epic and exciting instrumental progressive rock without needing any vocals.”
— Zona Emergente

“Let the melody of this song sweep you away… a dreamlike opening that gradually envelops us in a tinkling, atmospheric soundscape.”
— End Sessions MX

“Awesome guitar work and spirit that captures a bit of a cinematic and melancholic atmosphere.”
— We All Want Someone To Shout For

Dhärä is comprised of four distinct creative voices whose differences fuel their sound: Chris Rodriguez (drums), Austin Sandick (guitar), Kay Tyagi (guitar), and Ryan DiPietrantonio (bass). Together, they focus on building immersive atmospheres while always serving the song—embracing instrumental music as a limitless medium for exploration and expression.

“A PLACE IN TIME, (the entities, divided)” is available now on all major platforms. Elemental Four arrives January 11, 2026.

"Burn The Time Away"

Wanted Noise

Pacific Beach punk mainstays Wanted Noise are kicking off 2026 early with their explosive new single “Burn The Time Away,” out January 6. The track marks the first taste of the band’s upcoming studio album Easy Listening and adds a deeper emotional punch to their signature skate-punk, surf-punk, SoCal-bred sound.

Formed in 2014, Wanted Noise have carved out their own lane within Southern California’s alternative music scene, blending high-energy punk with the genre-blurring influences that first defined them. The band has performed everywhere from Baja, Mexico up the U.S. West Coast to Vancouver, Canada, and across to Arizona and Colorado—sharing stages with The AtarisPunk Rock Karaoke, and appearing at the 2025 Punk Rock Rodeo headlined by Guttermouth. In recent years they launched their own DIY touring concept, “Hit the Slopes, Hit the Stage,” a punk-rock snowboarding tour that pushes their dream of combining music, surf trips, and mountain weekends into a full-time reality.

The band first earned critical attention with their 2017 release Plate Lunch. In a 2020 San Diego Reader feature, journalist Dryw Keltz described Wanted Noise as “a throwback to the free-for-all attitude that bands such as The Minutemen personified,” noting that while their songs sit comfortably under the punk umbrella, “the influences at play are what set them apart.” Guitarist/vocalist Suri Sherman likened the record’s multi-genre personality to “a plate lunch where you’ve got your beans, meat, and veggies… a little sampler of everything.”

After releasing their skate-punk driven album Next Generation in 2022, Wanted Noise are now gearing up for Easy Listening, their most fully realized project to date.

What If Sabrina Carpenter Made Grunge Pop Music???

Guess Who?

What if Sabrina Carpenter made grunge pop music? Think about it, but not too much because I have an answer to the question.

She would sound like the Tender Misfit. Lyrically they are basically kindred spirits (refer to the image above) I've heard Tears Minions!

What's that you are asking? Oh, so you want to know what a "Tender Misfit" is? Well now, I believe that can be remedied by hitting the links below.

No need to thank me, you can simply spank me. Or something to that effect...

The Question

The Question

“This power pop band should have been a household name. The Question is one of the best bands ever to come out of Los Angeles.”- Jack Rabid

Seminal LA mod trio The Question have officially released their landmark 1982 EP “Shall Be Love” to all major streaming platforms today via Oglio Records, kicking off a long-awaited archival series that will debut newly remixed, remastered, and previously unheard material throughout the coming months.

Stream 'Shall Be Love' here: https://lnk.to/QuestionShallBeLove

Formed in the 1980s and widely regarded as the first, and arguably most significant mod band ever to emerge from Los Angeles proper, The Question earned their reputation through explosive, unpredictable live shows and the sharp, melodic songwriting of Tony Rugolo—whose jazz-influenced chord progressions reflect the legacy of his father, the late Pete Rugolo, an award-winning composer and arranger. With Rugolo’s dynamic vocals, Phil Cusimano’s 60s-infused Rickenbacker tone, and the powerhouse drumming of David White, the band transcended the mod scene and built a devoted following that stretched well beyond the underground.

The Question’s official discography has historically been limited—two songs on the revered Warfrat Tales compilation and a pair of self-released 7-inch EPs (Distance Apart and Getting Through). But behind the scenes, the band had recorded far more than most fans ever realized.

Now, after years of remixing and remastering, The Question and Oglio Records will release the band’s complete archive of more than 20 songs, including many that have never been available in any format. “Shall Be Love” is the first release to emerge, with additional singles and deep cuts to follow.

The Question is currently active, playing live gigs and preparing to record a new album in 2026, marking their first new music in decades.

"Low Life Club"

MEGG

South Bay–born, Nashville-based alternative/pop-punk artist MEGG has released her new EP Low Life Club.

Stream Low Life Club: https://ffm.to/lowlifeclub

Stream the “Clarity” video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jh1Mu26NJPQ

A collection of six raw and unapologetic tracks, cements MEGG’s status as one of pop-punk’s boldest new voices. Blending pop sensibility with punk-rock roots, she’s built a sound that’s rebellious, catchy, and deeply personal — a fearless soundtrack for tomboys, romantics, loudmouths, and misfits alike. Channeling Gwen Stefani’s swagger, Hayley Williams’ firepower, and Joan Jett’s grit, MEGG brings early-2000s energy into a modern, unapologetically self-defined era.

‘Low Life Club’ feels like the unofficial soundtrack to the West Coast and is easily some of the best music I’ve ever put out,” she adds. “It’s multidimensional — the heaviness, the vulnerability, the riot, the vocal chops, the nostalgia, the party, and everything in between. It’s got a little something for everyone. I’m really proud of these songs and stoked to give them to my fans.

A graduate of USC’s inaugural Popular Music Performance Program, MEGG has been tearing up stages across the country — from headlining hometown venues like Saint Rocke (Hermosa Beach) to packing The End (Nashville). She’s shared stages with KISS and The Used, opened at Musink, and recently performed at the 30th Anniversary Vans Warped Tour in Long Beach. She’s also sung the National Anthem for the LA DodgersLA Galaxy, and LA Sparks at Crypto.com Arena.

Following a string of singles in 2024 — including the bratty fan-favorite “IDC” (currently spinning on SiriusXM’s The Pop Off and 107.7 The Bone’s Bone Breakers) — MEGG continues to build momentum toward Low Life Club. Earlier tracks like “Get Over It” and “The End” gave fans a taste of what’s to come, showcasing her knack for combining anthemic hooks with raw emotion and unapologetic attitude.

Southern California punk band Heartwells has announced an exciting new chapter: a partnership with City Rat Records for their upcoming European tour alongside labelmates Empired. The run will mark Heartwells’ first full European outing, bringing their explosive live energy overseas this winter.

The announcement follows the release of their new standalone single “Killin Me Now” — a high-octane dose of melodic aggression and emotional urgency — and their recent 6-song EP Ollie, released this past July via HEY!FEVER Records.

James Newton Quartet

Rhythm 'n' Flow Records Announces

James Newton Quartet - Live In Willisau Switzerland 1983

Featuring Geri Allen on Piano, Anthony Cox on Bass,
and Andrew Cyrille on Drums

11/7
In the spring of 1983, a newly conceived version of the JAMES NEWTON QUARTET appeared on the European jazz scene. After four decades, producer Stephan Meyner contacted James Newton when they realized that, unfortunately, the quartet had never released a recording.

This changed when Meyner unearthed a 1983 recording of the quartet from Willisau in Switzerland. A few months before the tour, James Newton had heard about a fantastic young pianist, composer, and scholar from Detroit who was completing her master's degree in ethnomusicology at the University of Pittsburgh: Geri Allen

The members of the JAMES NEWTON QUARTET for this European tour included Geri Allen on piano, Anthony Cox on bass, and Andrew Cyrille on drums. The recording from Willisau is one of the first recordings in Geri Allen's long, historic, and outstanding career. Bassist, composer, and bandleader Anthony Cox has immense, highly virtuosic mastery of his instrument, plays with great sensitivity, contributes to every nuance of the ensemble with incredible technical skill and responds to it with confidence, switching skilfully and fluently between different styles. Andrew Cyrille is one of the most respected drummers jazz has ever produced. His ensembles and compositions have contributed greatly to the tradition he embodies. He is known for his enthusiastic collaborations with modernists such as David Murray, Muhal Richard Abrams, Mal Waldron, Horace Tapscott, Peter Brötzmann, and Oliver Lake.

The recording's repertoire includes Charles Mingus' loving tribute to Charlie Parker, "Reincarnation of a Lovebird," Geri Allen's masterpiece, "The Printmakers," and two originals by James Newton: "Forever Charles," dedicated to Mingus, and "Pinkie Below," the nickname given to Newton's young son James III by one of his uncles because he was the youngest grandson in the family and was born with light skin.
