Margaret Cho continues to be the must-see comedian-actress: she stars in Hulu's EMMY nominated rom-com movie -"Fire Island" (People’s Choice Award, GLAAD Media Award, Dorian TV & Gotham Award winner) with SNL alum Bowen Yang, in Awkwafina’s Nora From Queens and with Iliza Shlesinger in Netflix's "Good on Paper." Most recently, Margaret starred in the Disney+ "Prom Pact" movie - watch trailer HERE as well as a guest star appearance on ABC's "Not Dead Yet" with Gina Rodriguez. Margaret was also part of Netflix's “Stand Out Comedy Special” and "Over The Moon" film with Ken Jeong & Sandra Oh which was nominated for an Academy Award & Golden Globe Award.  And, the cherry on the cake may be her inclusion in VOGUE Magazine’s “9 best female comedians of all-time’ alongside other comedic icons Joan Rivers, Gilda Radner and Wanda Sykes.

Now, Margaret - the five-time Grammy and Emmy nominated comedian/actress who has been touring North America since the start of 2023 has added brand new 2024 dates to her highly successful Live & LIVID! tour. Tickets for the new 2024 Live and LIVID! tour go on-sale Friday, December 8 HERE

“Live and LIVID is a show celebrating my 40 years as a stand up comedian. I will be radiating rage about homophobia, sexism, racism and the fight to stay alive in a culture that is killing us daily. You will love seeing me Live and LIVID! This is living! Come through life!”

“I’ve cycled through many names to get to Live and Livid. Absolutely Angry, Bitch and Bitchy, Count on this C***,  but Live and LIVID seems to have a ring to it.” - says Cho.

Not enough Margaret for you? In addition to "Prom Pact" on Disney +, HBO Max's "The Flight Attendant" with Kaley Cuoco & Rosie Perez,"Hacks"with Jean Smart, "The L Word:Generation Q"on Showtime and Hulu's "Sex Appeal" w/Mika Abdalla & Paris Jackson, Cho has also appeared on NBC's long-running drama series "Law & Order:SVU" and stunned America by singing her way through season one of the wildly popular break-out hit show The Masked Singer.  Additionally, Margaret was named one of Rolling Stone magazine's 50 Best Stand-Up Comics of All Time (Rolling Stone HERE) while CNN chose her as one of the 50 People Who Changed American Comedy (CNN HERE ).

"The Notorious C.H.O.! Margaret is a jack of all trades and master of many. Whether conjuring the spirits of George Carlin, Joan Rivers or Lenny Bruce, she is committed to navigating the world of comedy and uniquely making it her own.  Completely unapologetic about the life experiences that have shaped her path and journey to where she is today. These are just some of the reasons I love Margaret."  Wanda Sykes

“I was inspired by Margaret. I got my start in comedy because of Margaret.” When I was in medical school and being her opening act at university inspired me to do this full-time. I would always ask Margaret, ‘Should I quit being a doctor? Should I quit medicine?’ I was so tortured, and I know I annoyed her. And she was so patient with me and so loving. It was just like a sibling – and it got me through my own internal confidence crises.“Margaret really is a pioneer in so many ways. Every Asian-American comedian owes a debt of gratitude to Margaret. Also, when I developed my own show, Dr Ken, I had Margaret as my character’s sister for a reason.” Ken Jeong - Click HERE

A pioneer amongst women in comedy, Margaret doesn’t take anything for granted as she continues to tackle difficult subjects with sensitivity and her razor sharp insight with her takes on addiction, abuse, activism and Asianness. It's all about the politics of disgust and what is disgusting about politics. Margaret has received many rave reviews for her live shows with the Chicago Tribune saying “Be it on-screen (“30 Rock,” “Drop Dead Diva”) or on stage, Margaret Cho has been one of the most exciting, unpredictable stand-up comics working for some time, and that hasn’t changed. If anything, the Asian-American female comedian’s voice has become more valuable than ever, given today’s social climate, and Cho’s material remains just as compelling, thanks in part to—and sometimes in spite of—her unapologetic delivery.”

One Night Only

Me, Margaret & Lucia

Last night I did something I, like most of you, rarely do. I went to a live show of comedy and music. Margaret Cho & Friends to be exact.

The one night only to do happened at Largo @ The Coronet, courtesy of my friend publicist extraordinaire Ken Phillips

You know the old adage "laughter is the best medicine?" well I am here to tell you I researched this last night and it truly is!

Me & Ken

Due to pandemic protocols masks and vaccination cards were required to enjoy the evening.

And guess what Minions?! A fun time was had by all!!!

Whatever you do today with your bad self be sure it includes laughter, it is something we all need during these, shall we say, interesting times.

Mic Drop!

Margaret Cho Gets Her Some "Law & Order: SVU"

Got Massage?
Margaret Cho
Photo:
Albert Sanchez
One of my favorite people and my favorite TV Shows of all time, together on one night...I'm so in!

Emmy and Grammy Award-nominated actress, comedian, author and producer Margaret Cho will guest star in the record-breaking 21st season of “Law & Order: SVU.”

Cho will guest star as the manager of a massage parlor who’s swept up in a sex trafficking sting operation.  The episode, titled “Counselor, It’s Chinatown,” will air in November.

An accomplished performer in all formats, Margaret Cho could be called the “Queen of all Media” having conquered the worlds of film, television, books, music and theatre. She has five Grammy Award nominations (two for music albums, “Cho Dependent” and “American Myth”) and one Emmy nod for her groundbreaking work on NBC’s “30 Rock.” Never one to shy away from a difficult or taboo topic, her socially aware brand of stand-up comedy has made her both a thought leader as well as a teacher to those with open minds and open hearts. In 2017, Rolling Stone magazine named her one of the 50 Best Stand-Up Comics, calling her “the sort of funny, sex-positive feminist and LGBT activist younger comics continue to look up to.”  Equally as important as her creative side is the causes she is passionate about. Margaret is widely recognized for her charitable work with gay rights and anti-bullying campaigns. In every segment of her life, Margaret is honest, forthright, passionate, uproarious and always entertaining.

Watch all-new episodes of “Law & Order: SVU,” the longest-running primetime drama in television history, Thursdays at 10 p.m. on NBC.

Michael's Musings

The Twins
Michael Shinafelt
With all the BS going on in the world, Georgia and it's almost complete abolishment of abortion rights is currently public enemy number one. After all what does number two do? So I thought it was time to break out my twins and throw my support behind a woman's right to choose.

OK, I am breaking them out metaphorically, because if I broke them out literally, well then the censors who run my forum on the WWW would certainly gun for me too. "Yes" it's a mad, mad, mad world and we are living in it.

Selene Luna: Pretty Special is a new one-hour stand-up comedy show featuring Luna’s original, biting and heartfelt perspective on being a little person, an atheist who’s afraid of ghosts and being married to a “normal-sized” man. This long-awaited show will be filmed live and will be the first-ever female little person stand-up comedy special.

Selene Luna: Pretty Special is conceived by long-time collaborators Selene Luna and John Stapleton, performed by Selene Luna, directed by Margaret Cho, written by Selene Luna, with additional material by John Stapleton and Jackie Beat.

Selene Luna: Pretty Special will be performed ONE NIGHT ONLY Saturday, February 2 at 7 pm at The Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Renberg Theatre. Tickets ($20) are now available ahttps://selene-luna-pretty-special.eventbrite.com.  Net proceeds from all ticket sales will support the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s programs for homeless youth.

Selene Luna: Pretty Special is a tragically funny standup comedy special showcasing Luna’s sharp-witted outspoken style that is bracingly honest and demystifies stereotypes against people with disabilities. Called “a polished spitfire” by The New York Times, Selene Luna shines a spotlight on the little woman who keeps going despite the cards this BIG world has stacked against her. Luna interweaves the polarizing political and social climate with a funny and inspiring message, from her being blessed by local neighborhood homeless, to her terrifying near-death experience while having sex on memory foam, to illegal immigration.

When asked about the entertainment industry’s exploitation of portraying little people as leprechauns, elves, fantasy creatures, Selene says, “As much as I begrudge some gigs I’ve had to do for survival, playing a Christmas elf can actually be a pretty good gig.  I’d rather be an overpaid holiday clown than look for a straight job.”

After several national tours as MARGARET CHO’s opening act, Selene is thrilled her fellow comic cohort is directing her special. Margaret on working with Selene: “She has been a part of my life in many different capacities, but she is awesome, she is hilarious, she’s beautiful and as an entertainer, she’s so incredibly diverse, you know, culturally.  She’s a little person, she’s so unique, she’s so amazingly adept at bringing her perspective to the stage.”

Selene Luna, fresh off her role as the voice of Tía Rosita in Disney-Pixar’s Academy Award & Golden Globe Awards' Winner COCOis an established presence in Hollywood with multiple roles in movies and TV shows such as Celebrity Wife Swap, Lionsgate’s My Bloody Valentine 3D, and Margaret Cho’s The Cho Show, the disabled Mexican-American actress has also broken ground as a featured burlesque dancer in five national tours of the undisputed Queen of Burlesque, Dita Von Teese.  Luna’s most celebrated stand-up comedy credit has been opening for several of Margaret Cho’s national tours. Last year, Luna, successfully produced,DON'T LAUGH AT US! A "Special" Comedians Comedy Special, the first-ever standup comedy show featuring an all-disabled line-up.
