Oscar Nomination Monday

Indeed...
"Yes" today the Oscar Nominations were announced for those of you who care. I have a passing interest in them, I have only seen three of the films with nominations. Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time...In Hollywood, Judy & Bombshell.

Honestly I think no one stands a chance against Renee Zellweger in the Best Actress category. I would say Once Upon A Time...In Hollywood would be a shoo in for Best Picture if it wasn't for 1917.  Time will tell who takes home the gold! In the meantime here is a list of all the nominees for you to while away the hours with..

Queen Margot

I admit it, I had only heard of Margot Robbie before seeing I, Tonya. "Yep" I, Tonya was the first time I had even seen Ms. Robbie in a film. She was spectacular as Tonya Harding. I suspect she will take home the Golden Globe this Sunday for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy.
What's that you say? What about her turn as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, you mean you didn't see that. "No" I didn't thank you very much, honestly you would have had to kidnap me, tie me up and prop my eyes open A Clockwork Orange style to get me to watch it, and I would still find a way to resist.
Robbie who appears on the cover of The Hollywood Reporter with Tonya Harding tells them she has one regret about doing that movie:
"There's just all this stuff you learn along the way, like, when you get those death threats, it's [smart] to have a security team do a background check on whoever sent them to see if there is any past history of violence because you'll need to know whether you need security to go to certain events. And every time you do a background check, it's going to cost $2,000, so take that into consideration when you're getting yourself into this."
"And it's like, 'OK, that's a different kind of career.' Because then you need to always do a job that can financially support that lifestyle; you can't just do indie films for the rest of your life because that film back there changed everything and now you have to be able to afford security, I just wish someone had explained a lot of those things to me early on. I wouldn't have resented the position I found myself in because I would've known what I was getting myself into."

See kids being a Movie Star isn't always shits & giggles. Best of luck to you Margot on Sunday, you got this!

Film Buff Friday: My Way

Grrrrrrrrrrl Power!

A collision of Anvil! The Story of Anvil meets Thelma and Louise

"Adding to the authenticity are onscreen comments by rockers
Steven Adler (Guns N' Roses), Rikki Rockett (Poison) and Chip Z'Nuff (Enuff Z'Nuff)"
The Hollywood Reporter

Meet Rebekah Starr, a small-town girl stuck in a mid-western corporate life. Yearning to break free, she ditches her briefcase for a Les Paul guitar and hits the highway. Destination? Los Angeles' famed rock 'n' roll Sunset Strip.

Although Rebekah's marriage is failing, this is not some alternate fantasy life she's escaping to--it's her burning passion for music that can no longer be suppressed. On her journey, she serendipitously meets and befriends rock legends Steven Adler (Guns N' Roses) and Rikki Rockett (Poison).

A witness to the power of passion and aspiration, My Way chronicles the hugely entertaining path one woman takes to pursue her seemingly impossible dream.

"Rebekah Starr is the perfect protagonist; she is a gutsy feminist and a talented musician. Audiences will be glad she made a bold statement by waking up one morning, and escaping her stagnant life!"
-- Independent Film Quarterly

After winning 5 top awards on the film festival circuit and receiving a theatrical release in New York City and Los Angeles, My Way now comes to DVD & VOD on 11/4.

"★★★★ A kick ass girl movie with a side of rock star!"
-- Santa Ana Movie Examiner

"A good film filled with... adventure, sex, fun and music!"
-- StageBuddy.com

The DVD can be ordered now at the  MVD Shop or on Amazon.

You Go Ghoul! Reese Witherspoon

Hi, I'm Reese Witherspoon
OK, before you all get evil and start throwing bobbed apples at me, I love Ms. Witherspoon, I simply like to keep my posts somewhat geared to my favorite time of year. Thus the "Ghoul" reference.

Actually this post is a Valentine not a Trick to one of my favorite actresses. Reese is awesome and so deserved her Academy Award for her performance as June Carter Cash in Walk The Line

Not to mention she was brilliant in two of my personal favorite films of all time, as Tracy Flick in Alexander Payne's Election and Vanessa Lutz in Freeway.

Vanessa: Holy shit! Look who got beat with the ugly stick. Is that you Bob? "Freeway"

I would like to give Reese the utmost respect for how she recently addressed her arrest in 2013. It was an honest comment on the human condition. Happy Halloween Reese!

Reese Witherspoon's arrest in April 2013 was something of a wake-up call -- and not just for her. Asked about the incident during a press conference for her new movie Wild at the BFI London Film Festival on Monday, Oct. 13, the actress said she thinks it opened the world's eyes to the fact that there's more to her than the America's Sweetheart persona she has cultivated on-screen.

"I think it was a moment where people realized that I wasn't exactly what they thought I was," the 38-year-old star said (via The Hollywood Reporter). "I guess maybe we all like to define people by the way the media presents them, and I think that I showed I have a complexity that people didn't know about."

Of the arrest -- for disorderly conduct in Atlanta, where she was filming The Good Lie at the time -- she added, "It's part of human nature. I made a mistake. We all make mistakes. The best you can do is say sorry and learn from it and move on."

It's "Freak Show" Friday !

Step Right Up, It's Time For The "Freak Show"
I contemplated doing a post about some wedding that happened this past weekend, but honestly while I would like to congratulate Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, I find the latest promotional teasers for American Horror Story: Freak Show more exciting!

Although I must also give Brad and Angelina credit for being clever enough to have their wedding on a weekend while a major awards show, The Emmy's, was happening to help keep it hush hush and under the radar and all.

These promos are getting me really excited for October 8th on FX. In case you didn't know the month of Halloween and all things spooky is my Christmas and I'd like to thank the powers that be for giving us horror fans this present for the past three years, and now a fourth.

Looking at the image recently released by The Hollywood Reporter above sends my imagination into overdrive.

Here's hoping that Tod Browning's Freaks plays a major influence on this "Freak Show!"

Check out the latest freaky teaser trailer below. I can't wait!
