Urgent Documentary Reveals Massive Human Rights
Violations Plaguing Mexican American Immigrants

Human rights are a huge issue in the United States of America right now, check out this documentary Narrated & Presented by the one and only Edward James Olmos -

Exile Nation is a close-up look at a group of people without passports who have slipped through the cracks of not just one system but two…. emotionally powerful and provocative."
– Tanja M. Laden, LA Weekly

“This film is as important to American awareness as Bowling For Columbine, Into The Abyss, or Super Size Me."

“Charles Shaw’s The Plastic People is a loud and clear rallying cry for immigration reform that reveals the everyday suffering behind the statistics. As Charles follows photographer Chris Bava into Tijuana’s notorious “Zona Norte,” it becomes immediately clear that the situation on the border is nothing less than a human rights crisis.”
– Brian Duffy, openDemocracy

“Invisible to many locals, ignored by most tourists, and routinely abused by police, the 'plastic people' are largely made up of deported immigrants who were deposited in Tijuana, regardless of their country of origin, and resorted to living in the vast gutter plagued by raw sewage, toxic chemicals, discarded needles, disease, and dangerous flash flooding… Exile Nation: The Plastic People offers a harrowing look at the faces and stories of the Tijuana River canal."
– Chad Deal, San Diego Reader

Devolver Digital Films is proud to announce the digital VOD release of the important new documentary, Exile Nation: The Plastic People, presented by Edward James Olmoswho also narrates the film. Written, photographed, and directed by Charles Shaw, the powerful film follows U.S. deportees, struggling to survive in Tijuana, living in cardboard shacks and sewer pipes, in an ever-expanding underworld of exiles. The film’s digital VOD release is scheduled for December 16, 2014 via iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, PlayStation, Xbox, VUDU, Vimeo on Demand, VHX, Gumroad, Google Play, and others. For additional information, please visit http://exilenation.org/the-plastic-people.
“Nearly 400 people are deported to Tijuana every day and nearly 1,000 people, without Mexican families or citizenship, are living in that city’s sewers because they have nowhere else to go,” says Charles Shaw, director of The Plastic People, “Most are hunted down relentlessly by the police or have become fodder for the cartels… struggling to survive.”

Exile Nation: The Plastic People (Documentary, 2014, 75 min.) –
Narrated by Edward James Olmos, The Plastic People reveals how the exploitative policies of a failed war on drugs and immigration added Tijuana's “Zona Norte” to the growing international crisis of nationless refugees and deportees. Shot on location in Tijuana, the film follows the lives of three men who have found themselves stuck in an impossible situation as drug addicts, criminals, deportees, and the people they have become under these extraordinary conditions:

• Chris Bava, a photographer fighting his own addictions, recorded the horrors of the situation in hauntingly beautiful photographs that adorn the film, while offering the help he could to deportees.
• Javier Godinez Mondragon, a Mexican American deportee who immigrated to the U.S. with his family as a young boy, deported at age 30 for drug possession.
• Jonathan Espinoza, a newly married young deportee who spent his entire life in the U.S after immigrating at age 5, deported after a fight with a former classmate.

The 9/11 attacks began a decade-long period of anti-immigrant policies in the United States. As a consequence, the U.S. began the mass-deportation of an estimated 4 to 6 million “non-citizens.” Those hit hardest by these new policies were Latinos, primarily Mexicans, who make up 97% of those deported, returned to a country with a devastated economy in the midst of a cartel war.

Thrown away by both the U.S. and Mexico, the “plastic people” struggle to survive in hellish limbo along the border, separated from everyone and everything they know. They had families and contributed to their communities in the States, yet still had not achieved citizenship. Many were deported, without any hope of returning, their families trapped on the other side of the border. Children were taken from parents, leaving tens of thousands as wards of the state. The Plastic People uncovers the heartbreaking story of these displaced humans as they search fo r meaning, purpose, and, ultimately, redemption.

Have A "Dandy" Friday

Dandy Mott: Send In The Clown
Alright all of you American Horror Story: Freak Show fans like me. While I do not find this installment particularly scary I do find it bizarre, off the wall and unpredictable.
I also have a dark confession to make. Dandy Mott is my favorite character that inhabits the Freak Show universe.
This past weeks episode was especially enlightening as to his homicidal ways. The fact that he started off killing kittens as a child was a nice touch and a sly reference to serial killer Luka Magnotta.
Obviously the only thing truly Dandy about this motley psycho is his crazy sense of entitlement when it come to offing people. He feels like it was what he was put on this earth to kill whoever and whatever he pleases, as if he could put it on his resume' when applying for a job.
Pssssssssst! If you did not see this past weeks episode you might not want to read past here...yes I mean it, right here, don't do it, do it at your own risk. I bet you are going to keep reading even if you haven't.
Yes, Dandy offed his mother Gloria in an OMG moment on this weeks episode, that's correct Frances Conroy is gone, a moment of silence please. OK time to carry on.
The closing scene of the show was especially dark and nasty, as we see Dandy bathing in a tub of his deceased mother's blood.
Well, if ya think that's disturbing Finn Wittrock, the actor who portrays Dandy says that things are just going to get worse.
"I'll just tell you that the next one, I think his body count might double," Wittrock told me earlier today while promoting his new movie, Unbroken, the Angelina Jolie -directed World War II drama.  "The next one really, honestly takes the cake. Even I'm scared."
Personally I'm not scared, I can't wait till Wednesday December 10th to get my Dandy Mott fix!

Bump Out! Kourtney Kardashian

Looking Good, Kourtney Kardashian
Yes I know it's Kourtney Kardashian, but she is nine months pregnant and looks amazing! She recently posed nude that way for Du Jour Magazine.

Also those of you who follow this blog know I  find the image a a pregnant woman nude quite beautiful.

Kourtney is no exception to my rule. I have featured Alicia Keys and Christina Aguilera - thus I feel in all fairness to my standard of what I find aesthetically pleasing I must include Ms. Double K.

Having no personal knowledge about her other than what is put out there in the media, I have no real opinion on her other than she is a beautiful woman making a life and sharing the process with the world.

In this writer's opinion that is a wonderful thing.

Keep Up With Kourtney at: http://www.kourtneykardashian.com/

Reese Witherspoon & Jimmy Fallon Get Random

We're Insane: Reese Witherspoon & Jimmy Fallon
Reese Witherspoon dropped by to have some Yuletide fun with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show yesterday evening.
Thew self confessed Christmas hound and star of the upcoming film Wild sang random phrase Christmas Carols with Jimmy.
It's like The Name Game, but with off the wall phrases added to favorite Holiday songs, you get the gist?
Fallon kicked it off with a rendition of a song about a "small old man" to the tune of "Jingle Bells."
Witherspoon did an equally silly song to the tune of "Silent Night" and for the finale both did a loopy duet inspired by "Deck The Halls."
Safe bet none of this will ever be available on ITunes - but a jolly good time was had by all! Check out the merriment after the jump! Ho ho ho!

Madonna "You Don't Want To Be The Smartest Person In The Room"

Credit: Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott
"You don’t want to be the smartest person in the room; you want to be the dumbest in the room. You want to be surrounded by other thinking people who are going to say something that makes you think, 'Oh, my God, that's an amazing idea. Why didn't I think of that" - Madonna to David Blaine Interview Magazine

Wow I love this! Welcome back Madge it's been a while since you have been relevant and said something with your inner voice that was actually ineresting. Oh and by the way this statement is something I 100% agree with. It sucks being that person.

Don't get me wrong. When I was eighteen I will never forget being a young impressionable gay boy seeing Madonna's Burning Up video playing at club in Seattle, WA.

She was inspiring and edgy. Madonna has always been able to blend pop culture, artistry and commerce seamlessly throughout her entire career. Until the past few years...

Yep, she has faltered in a quite epic manner. Her last two albums have been really lame and the singles off of them have been yawn fests.

Her current chat with Magician David Blaine in Interview Magazine is inspiring. It reminds me of why I liked Madonna in the first Fucking place.
Credit: Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott
Her intelligence and savvy are on full display here:

"I remember having conversations with Keith Haring and with Basquiat about the importance of your art being accessible to people," she recalled. "That was their big thing—it should be available to everyone. It was so important for Keith to be able to draw on subways and walls. And Basquiat used to say to me, 'You're so lucky that you make music, because music comes out of radios everywhere.' He thought that what I did was more pop, more connected to pop culture than what he did. Little did he know that his art would become pop culture. But it's not like we really had discussions about the meaning of art. I remember hearing them talk about those things." - Madonna to David Blaine Interview Magazine

Welcome back Big M. You suddenly became important, interesting and relevant again by being honest and not desperately trying too hard.

You Go!
