When The Runaway Met Fanny

CHERIE CURRIE & BRIE DARLING
Announce North American & Canadian Tour Dates

New Album “The Motivator” – Debuts Top 20 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart

Los Angeles-based, female rock icons, Cherie Currie and Brie Darling have announced the initial dates for their first-ever tour together.  The tour, in support of their recently released new album The Motivator is set to kick off in Las Vegas on November 8.  The month long trek will weave through major markets including Chicago, Philadelphia and New York as well as some Canadian dates.   All dates will go on sale Friday, September 6  at 8 AM PST/11 AM EST.

“I’ve worked my whole life for this. I feel so lucky to share this new experience with an icon I truly admire.” says Cherie Currie while Brie Darling sums up her excitement for the upcoming tour with “It's gonna get noisy ...You're gonna wanna be here!"

The Motivator debuted in the Top 20 on Billboard’s Heatseeker’s Chart and has received rave reviews with The Big Takeover saying “the chemistry of Currie and Darling is awe inspiring as the vocal gymnastics of both complement each other perfectly,” while Uncut magazine raves “The pick of their three originals is the defiant pop-rock anthem, “This Is Our Time”. “It ain’t over yet, turn up our voices past 10,” sings Currie.  And they have.”

In addition to major feature stories in the LA Times HERE and Billboard Magazine HERE Cherie & Brie recently sat down with CNNto discuss the new project: Brie & Cherie on CNN

The Motivator via Blue Élan Records was produced by the six-time Grammy nominated Dave Darling (Brian Setzer, Stray Cats, Janiva Magness, Tom Waits) and features nine classic covers by bands including The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, and John Lennon, plus three powerful new originals, “Too Bruised,” “I’m Too Good, That’s Just Too Bad” and the topical “This Is Our Time.”

The Youngbloods’ "Get Together" and T. Rex’s  "The Motivator"

Guests on the album include a host of family and friends who came in to do backups, including Currie’s sister, actress Sondra Currie, her ex-husband, actor Robert Haysfriends, Susan Olsen of Brady Bunch fame, Leslie Koch Foumberg, and actress/director, Allison Scagliotti. Darling’s brother, Henry Berry is on “He Ain’t Heavy”; and brother Phil Berry does a guitar solo on the Kinks tune “Do it Again” while her sister, Rory Berry Bishop plays drums on Thunderclap Newman’s “Something in the Air.” Patti Quatro—Suzi’s sister and a member of Fanny—plays guitar and sings on “For What It’s Worth.”

The Runaways front-woman and solo artist, Currie, met the Fanny drummer and singer, Darling, in 2017 and immediately connected.  Currie had come in to contribute vocals to Fanny Walked the Earth, a reunion album from the trailblazing Fanny, the first all-female band signed to a major label (Reprise) in 1969.  Though the two musicians were certainly admirers of each other, they had not yet met until that session.  Once connected, the idea to continue collaborating was hatched and soon the idea to record an album was solidified.

It was decided they would record an album of cover songs that resonated with the duo.  The covers chosen mostly share—unintentionally—a socio-political resonance that’s as relevant today as when the songs were written.  “The original album concept was that Brie was going to sing a few, I’d sing a few, and we’d back each other up,” furthers Currie. “But I knew our voices really work well together. On T. Rex’s ‘The Motivator,’ Brie did a great soulful rock scratch vocal but maybe I have more of a tough rock quality to my voice, so I think Dave decided I was going to sing it.  But in my head I heard a duet, me doing the first verse, her on the second verse….and that started the dialog of using our voices together as a concept. Our voices complement each other, so we decided we should share the majority of these songs, because it makes them better.”  Producer Dave Darling says, "It's extremely rare to have two such powerful vocalists in the same band. Cherie's a steam roller and Brie's a flame thrower. That just doesn't happen!"

What's better than a double shot of Dolly? A triple, naturally!

Dolly Parton is set to bring her boundless energy to stages in over 60 cities as she embarks on her first major U.S. and Canadian tour in more than 25 years. For the last 20 years, Parton has only played select dates in the U.S., but her 2016 tour will cover cities across North America. As one of the hottest concert tickets of the summer, Parton’s legion of fans are destined to sell out the shows quickly. Parton’s set-list will include hit songs all while weaving in a few new songs from her double-disc album Pure & Simple with Dolly's Biggest Hits. She will also be playing songs that have not been heard live for decades.

“We’re so excited to get out there and see the fans again. I’m really looking forward to singing songs the fans have not heard in a while, as well as the hits, while debuting a few new ones off Pure & Simple,” Parton said.

Pure & Simple with Dolly's Biggest Hits 2-CD set will include all new material as well as a compilation of Parton’s biggest hits. A track listing for Pure & Simple will be announced soon.

The Country Music Hall of Famer is on one of the biggest hot streaks of her career after her hugely successful TV movie, “Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors,” attracted a network record of 15.8+ million viewers and was the most watched movie on network TV in more than 3 years. “Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors,” will be released on DVD May 3.

Stay tuned for tour date announcements and album details.

Getting To Know: Corinne Dekker

Guinea pigs, guinea pigs, guinea pigs...and while we are on the subject, Corinne Dekker is here for your entertainment, yes she of the guinea pig fetish – she is Ms. Charo Pickles, Celebriguinea extraordinaires Mom and assistant to one Ms. Jennie Garth on “A Little Bit Country” not to mention a comedian, actress and accomplished vlogger - The Canadian born Ms. Dekker is here to tell us: just how many licks does it take to get to the center of an udder?...OK Corinne, we're waiting...!

CD: I know I dialed the wrong number, I could not find where I placed the other one.

MS: You were prompt though, that's all that matters. Most people are, only a few times has “late” really happened, one of those times was when I interviewed Pamela Anderson.

CD: Really how late was she?

MS: She ended up being a half hour late.

CD: That's not too bad.

MS: No, it wasn't and she was really busy at the time. The funny part is once I got her on the phone I had to cut her off at some point because I was running behind schedule. She is the nicest woman, I loved her!

CD: It's because she is Canadian, we're all like that.

MS: Oh, you're Canadian too!

CD: Yes, all of us are nice, except for maybe Bill Murray. (laughs)

MS: So, let's talk “A Little Bit Country” - I was loving the udder episode. I can't believe you thought you needed to suck on a cows udder to get milk out of it!

CD: “A Little Bit Country” was a real reality show...um, that whole bet with Jennie, where I had to suck the cows udder if that was not the only way to get milk out of one, I'm embarrassed to say, I did believe that.

MS: That was my next question, if you really believed that.

CD: Well it turns out my Mom thinks she probably told me that to make me drink milk as a kid, I don't know what. (laughs) I still kind of believe it, if the milk is stopped up that you should do that...it was legitimate so I clamped my mouth down on that udder, I keep my bets.

MS: Udder sucking works, obviously, but it isn't really necessary. (laughs)

CD: No, but there are worse things in life than sucking a cows udder. (laughs)

MS: So I watched your latest vlog, I liked the Piglympics and I know you have a thing for Guinea Pigs.

CD: They are the most lovely little creatures.

MS: Yes, Charo Pickles is the Celebriguinea of the group.

Charo Pickles
CD: She is the celebrity, she has a Twitter and a Facebook page. She has fans of her own that are independent of mine.

MS: Why the name Charo Pickles?

CD: Charo was my first guinea pig baby and she has the same coloring as the actual Charo. Plus she makes squeaky noises, like when Charo goes “Coochie, Coochie”. Then, honestly I love dill pickles, so I thought, when you say it fast, Charo Pickles, sounds like, jar of pickles. She will glare at me if I only say Charo or if I just say pickles, so I always have to address her as: Charo Pickles.

MS: You and I should go out sometime.

CD: Perfect! You like guys and I like guinea pigs. (laughs) That could be a problem. (laughs)

MS: Getting back to bets and dares, your sushi dare was mega gross!

CD: I told Jennie about that. Yeah I went for sushi and I don't really love sushi...

MS: It's not my favorite either.

CD: I mean it's fine, but...I ordered the most disgusting looking sushi on the menu and it had a texture like paint, it was just gross.

MS: Yeah, I am not a huge fan of sushi either and never understood what people see in it. I mean I can eat it, but I never suggest that me and my friends go and have sushi.

CD: Michael think about this, maybe we are doppelgangers, maybe you are the male homosexual me and I am the female Canadian you.

MS: Hmmmmmmmmmm....you may be onto something, Ms. Dekker.

CD: Well I feel the same way about sushi and that makes something else we have in common.

MS: The last time I went for sushi was about four years ago for someone's Birthday and me and a friend of his threw Sashimi at him, of course we were drinking saki.

CD: Those were expensive airplanes! (laughs)

MS: You were on “Ugly Betty” when the show was actually good.

CD: I was on the second episode, and I am to blame for the demise of it, if they had brought my character back like they said they would, perhaps it would still be running. (laughs)

MS: Also you were on “How I Met Your Mother” I can't believe that show has been running that long.

CD: Yeah, what's it been on eleven seasons? I remember when it was pretty new and me and my friends were like: “That's a weird title, it will never work”. That was back in the day when sitcoms did not have these epic long titles. (laughs) It wasn't like “Everybody Loves Raymond”.

MS: That was a show I never understood.

CD: Oh I loved it, maybe you can help me, I want to go on a date with Brad Garrett. I met him once and he called me pretty.

MS: Funny?

CD: No, pretty, and I thought: “let's make out” ! He's single now and I'm single, we wouldn't even have to make babies because I don't want them. I'm single and ready to mingle. I'm not sure who you know, but get me some Brad Garrett.

MS: I don't really have a celebrity crush.

CD: Well it's not like I have a picture of him on my wall, I just want to go on a date with him.
