Cinephile: Attack Force Z

This ones for all you Cinephiles out there.

Directed by Tim Burstall (End Play) and written by Roger Marshall (Twisted Nerve), Attack Force Zstars Academy Award© winner Mel Gibson (Braveheart, Lethal Weapon), three-time Golden Globe nominee Sam Neill (Jurassic Park, Thor: Ragnarok), John Phillip Law (Barbarella), Chris Haywood (Shine) and John Waters (Breaker Morant).

Attack Force Z was originally released theatrically in North America in June 1982 and is in the company of a collection of films that include Mad Max, The Road Warrior and Gallipoli that introduced Mel Gibson to U.S. audiences before his star making turn in the Academy Award© winning The Year of Living Dangerously.

Long before Gibson tackled the subject of World War II in Hacksaw Ridge, Attack Force Z tells the classic story of an elite military team of commandos lead by Captain P.G. Kelly (Gibson) dispatched during World War II to locate and rescue the survivors of a shot down plane stranded on a South Pacific island occupied by the Japanese. One of the castaways, a defecting Japanese official, holds the secret to ending the war and must be saved at all costs.

Making its debut in high definition Attack Force Z boasts a brand new 4K scan and restoration from the film's inter-positive, presented for the first time ever on 1080p Blu-ray in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio along with the original uncompressed dual channel mono audio. Additional special features in the disc include "The 2-Men Debriefed", a 25 minute featurette that includes interviews with executive producer John McCallum and actors John Waters and Chris Haywood (presented in standard definition) a photo gallery and the film's original theatrical trailer.

Eric Wilkinson, MVD Entertainment Group's Director of Acquisitions and Sales shares his excitement about announcing this release...

"Previous home video versions of this film have looked sub-par. Umbrella Entertainment has done an amazing job restoring this film to its original glory. As a collector of physical media, myself,  I'm happy to announce that Attack Force Z represents the first of many classic films on Blu-ray that MVD will be releasing in the near future."

Attack Force Z makes is home video debut on November 7th 2017 on Blu-ray (UPC# 9344256016103) and Digital / VOD from MVD Entertainment Group in North America.

A Sweaty Mess???

A Sweaty Mess, Not!
Carrie Underwood
While surfing the WWW I came upon a compilation of make-up free selfies that female celebrities had posted on their Instagram pages.

They all looked good, some even great without it (seriously would anyone post one without their face on if they didn't?) I have a winner. For me the hands down best one for overall content & context is Carrie Underwood's.

She captioned that this is what she looks like when she is a "sweaty mess."

Really?! All I have to say to the pic taken during her workout is we should all look this good when sweating.

This proves Carrie is not of this earth.

Kids In The Hall

Iconic
l-r
Kevin McDonald & Dave Foley
Remember "Kids In The Hall?" - that will date you.

Dallas VideoFest (http://videofest.org) announced today that it will honor both Kids in the Hall co-founders Dave Foley and Kevin McDonald with the coveted Ernie Kovacs Award on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Alamo Drafthouse (100 S. Central Expressway at Beltline - Richardson). Tickets can be purchased here: https://prekindle.com/event/59225-kovacs-award-richardson.

Both Dave Foley and Kevin McDonald will be in attendance to receive the Ernie Kovacs award and will be on hand for a panel discussion, a Q&A with fans and a rare screening of the iconic Kids in the Hall film BRAIN CANDY (1996). Foley and McDonald are being recognized for careers that span more than 30 years, including acting, producing and writing on television, film and stage and especially for their breakout roles playing a multitude of characters in The Kids in the Hall television series which ran from 1988-1995.

“One of the things that impressed me deeply about Ernie Kovacs was that television was a brand new medium in the fifties and he was subverting its conventions even as those conventions were being formed,” said Dave Foley of Kids in the Hall. “Ernie was way ahead of his time.”

”Ernie Kovacs has been one of my idols since I was a child so to receive an award in his name from the Dallas VideoFest is a true honor,” said Kevin McDonald of Kids in the Hall. “Kovacs was doing ’70s anti-comedy in the ’50s and his sense of absurdism would have been at home in a Monty Python’s Flying Circus episode. When Dave Foley and I are in Dallas on October 14, I will pretend  he is here with us - celebrating his career - because that's what this is - a celebration of Ernie Kovacs. And he deserves a lot of them."

“Dave Foley and Kevin McDonald of The Kids in the Hall are being recognized by the Dallas VideoFest for their efforts as comedy pioneers in the same vein as Ernie Kovacs,” said Bart Weiss, director of Dallas VideoFest. “Looking back at the comedy of The Kids and their other work afterward, you can see that, they, like Kovacs, saw what video and television could be and took us to that new place.”

The Ernie Kovacs Award recognizes the career and talents of some of television’s greatest visionaries. Kovacs’ work in the 1950s and early 1960s summed up the spirit of innovation and the development of the language of television as art. The Dallas Video Festival and the Video Association of Dallas announced the first Ernie Kovacs Award at the 1997 festival. Comedian Joel Hodgson of Mystery Science 3000 was the first recipient and subsequent honorees have included Terry Gilliam of Monty Python; Robert Smigel, writer/performer of Saturday Night Live and Late Night with Conan O’Brien; Paul “Pee-wee Herman” Reubens; Martin Mull; Mike Judge; George Schlatter, creator of Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In; Harry Shearer, Spinal Tap and The Simpsons; and Michael Nesmith. Actress Edie Adams (www.edieadams.com), Kovacs’ wife, came to Dallas to host the awards program annually until her death in 2008. Today, Edie’s son Joshua Mills runs Ediad Productions, the video and audio archive of both Ernie Kovacs and Edie Adams.

Just Because...Free The Nipple

Set Them Free
Demi Lovato
Just Because it's daring, just because she has vocal chops & just because she's Demi Lovato, feast your eyes on her wearing a uh, rather revealing sequin & lace ensemble.

Yes, peeps in the tradition of the Free The Nipple campaign, Ms. Lovato let hers out at the MTV Video Music Awards last night.

Her accessories? Not that I believe anyone cares but she wore lots of diamonds, hoop earrings and most importantly a sultry stare.

Demi has always been fearless in life and her choices, on the red carpet is no exception for this young woman.

Here's looking at you Lovato.

Sunday Schwing! Clive Owen

The Clive Experience
Clive Owen

For some reason, OK, I know the reason which will become blatantly obvious, or has it already? I was thinking about stud muffin, manly man, oh and actor Clive Owen recently.

Remember when he was a hot ticket in Hollywood appearing in everything from one of my favorites Closer with Natalie Portman to a interesting yet not quite successful blip on his radar Derailed with Jennifer Anniston?

He was even rumored to be the next James Bond when Daniel Craig snagged the role.

Well I bet you can guess what I did next? Yep, I went to Tye Briggs Favorite Hunks & Other Things to see if I could gaze upon Clive in all his naked glory.

Jackpot! Booty and full frontal were there to be found!

My Sunday Schwing is in full force.

Join me in Schwinging for Clive, just click on the link below...

Just Because...Unicorns

Team Unicorn
Selena Gomez
Just Because she is so adorable, just because she has a Unicorn sweater on & just because well why the hell not. Here is a fun image of one Ms. Selena Gomez sporting a sweater with the mascot for pure imagination on it, a Unicorn.

For some reason I enjoy seeing Unicorns in the many forms they manifest themselves into our collective consciousness. Selena Gomez wearing a Unicorn sweater out and about in Los Angeles is no exception.

Personally I wished the mythic animal were real, could you imagine how much more fun life would be? Seriously, they would add some much needed light to a world that really needs more levity.

So be the Unicorn you want to see in the world today!

Ciao!

T.G.I.T. = Thank God It's Tanya

Groundbreaking country music icon Tanya Tucker opened up for the first time on NBC’s TODAY Show about her musical tribute to Glen Campbell and performed “Forever Loving You” this morning (click here to watch). Tucker also graces the cover of Closer Weekly on newsstands now and will appear on Inside Edition, Fox News Edge, The Insider, Lifeminute, Celebrity Page, Sirius XM and MORE during her NYC media blitz.

While their relationship and breakup made headlines years ago, Tucker channeled her heartfelt feelings for Campbell in “Forever Loving You” and is donating proceeds to Alzheimer's research.

Tucker co-wrote “Forever Loving You” with Michael Lynn Rogers and Rusty Crowe, a Tennessee State Senator who co-sponsored the Campbell/Falk Act. The Tennessee law protects communication rights for people who've become wards of the state and those who have conservators over their financial and living situations.
