Michael's Musings

#TBT: Take A Bow
Michael Shinafelt
Today is the last day of the first month of 2019 - if this is any indicator of how the rest of the year is going to play out, damn slow the F#ck down! I need to take some time to smell the napalm in the morning. Or at the very least how fresh my clothes smell after I wash them, that's the practical choice. Fresh clothes smell for the win Alex.

Time to dive in...

Hello January 31st 2019!

We all know now what many have suspected, Tori Spelling is a Unicorn

The Superbowl is this Sunday, so there's that

When people tell me to go to Hell, Uh, I can't. Satan has a restraining order against me

Make out naked

If life knocks you down, get back up and tell it "You hit like a bitch"

Tomorrow is another day. The more you know.

Celine Dion, worth it, or not? Discuss...

It only takes two, but wait till you try three

Maroon 5 declined to do a press conference regarding the Superbowl in case you care

Apparently you can now sue people for accidentally colliding with you on the ski slope, things that make me go yawn

Take 6
TAKE 6 (Claude McKnight, Mark Kibble, Joel Kibble, Dave Thomas, Alvin Chea and Khristian Dentley), has been heralded by none other than Quincy Jones as the "baddest vocal cats on the planet!” Their uniquely cutting-edge style is comprised of six virtuosic voices united in crystal clear harmony, against a backdrop of syncopated rhythms, innovative arrangements, and funky grooves. All of this bubbles into an intoxicating brew of gospel, jazz, R&B, and pop. TAKE 6 are quintessential a cappella.

The group, considered torchbearers for an entire reemergence of a cappella as a musical movement, has been performing together since their days at Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama in 1980. Their debut album scored two 1988 Grammy Awards and landed in the Top Ten Billboard Contemporary Jazz and Contemporary Christian Charts.

Twenty seven years later, the most talked-about vocal group of all time, TAKE 6 is in greater demand than ever, selling out shows all over the world. They have performed on Saturday Night Live, the Oscars, the Grammys, had the honor of performing for four sitting U.S. Presidents, and appeared at the Democratic National Convention. The group, which has inspired and been a founding influence to a generation of recording artists including Boyz II Men and *NSYNC, has collaborated with a who’s who of artists – including Stevie Wonder, Gordon Goodwin, Don Henley, Whitney Houston, Al Jarreau, Quincy Jones, k.d. lang, Queen Latifah, Brian McKnight, Luis Miguel, Marcus Miller, Joe Sample, Ben Tankard and Cece Winans.

Ho, Ho, Ho Merry "Club Christmas"

Following the smash releases of Club Christmas, Club Christmas 2, Club Christmas 3 and Ultimate Club Christmas, D1 Music presents the final album in the collection, Club Christmas Greatest Hits. Club Christmas Greatest Hits features the most popular songs from all previous Club Christmas albums, including remixed takes on popular classics like “O Holy Night”, “The Little Drummer Boy” and even “Frosty the Snowman."

Club Christmas is the brainchild of Peter McLean, founder of the independent dance music label, D1 Music, and Keith Kemper

“The idea was to put a spin on classic Christmas tunes and remix them to reflect the music our fans appreciate,” states Peter McLean

So I decided to hit up D1 Music founder extraordinaire, Peter McLean as to what his personal favorite Holiday songs are, here is what he told Entertain Me:

Silent Night - a song that captures and inspires peace.

Little Drummer Boy - one of the most rhythmic Christmas carols and as a dance music producer that is very appealing.

O Holy Night - a powerful Christmas anthem that really raises the ceiling and you can't help but try for that high note at the end...but only singers like Celine Dion can hit it!!! LOL

Frosty The Snowman - this always puts a smile on my face. Who doesn't like a little fun at Christmas?

What Child Is This - musically this song is one of the most beautiful Christmas songs and it has become popular again in recent years.

Club Christmas Greatest Hits Tracklisting:

1. Feliz Navidad 3:39
2. Frosty The Snowman 3:56
3. Silent Night 2:34
4. What Child Is This 6:02

"Fashion Police" Will Still Be On Patrol

Pull Over In The Name Of Fashion: Fashion Police

Joan RiversFashion Police legacy will still go on without her. Cue My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion, kidding, I am sure Joan would appreciated the joke though...

E! Announced recently after a lot of consideration, Rivers' colleagues came to the conclusion that the show must go on.

"We decided, with Melissa Rivers' blessing, that Joan would have wanted the franchise to continue," the statement continued. "Fashion Police will return in 2015 commencing with Golden Globes coverage on Monday, January 12. No further details will be announced at this time."

Joan was the face of the show and her high heels are big ones to fill.

"They are looking at different scenarios, a lot of that will be up to [Melissa] and how she's feeling and how she decides what she wants to do, along with the execs here at E!. There is no word now -- they are seeing what Fashion Police looks like without Joan."

Fashion Police will not be the same without Joan, how could it? She was one of a kind, but her legacy should continue and will, that's the way she would have wanted it.

Keep Calm And Joan Rivers

Getting To Know: Shara Strand

Shara Strand is your new “American Idol”….well OK, she isn’t and good thing too. How many winners of that show went onto the success Shara will?! Two…Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.

Ms. Strand armed with a great voice and a desire to tell stories is going to better the pop world - with her literally titled single “Jekyll or Hyde” and her more ambiguously titled EP, “Born Tonight” Shara has something to say musically and personally.

Hey Shara, I know you are waiting, let me hand you the microphone!

MS: The thing that is interesting to me is you say you look up to Celine Dion, Barbara Streisand & Whitney Houston, personally I think your vocal quality is more Karen Carpenter.

SS: Ohhhhhhh, that’s kind of cool! You know when someone says something like that, right out of left field for me, I would never think about that, but I love Karen Carpenter.

MS: Your vocals are pure and uncluttered, very direct, much like hers.

SS: I’m more about telling a story than I am about vocal gymnastics.

MS: Let’s talk about your EP “Born Tonight” - you said it has been a long time coming and now you feel born in a metaphorical way.

SS: Where did you read that? I did say that. (laughs)

MS: It was in your press release. (laughs)

SS: Oh, OK (laughs) I had a list of titles for the EP - it’s a great EP and it finally came together within the last year. I was listening to the Rosanne Cash song: “Seven Year Ache” she says in the song “You act like you were just born tonight,” I thought it was interesting as there are all these good connotations to it, you are constantly reinventing yourself everyday. There is always an opportunity to learn more lessons and grow.

MS: When you have been working for a long time to bring something to fruition I can see how you would feel like you “birthed your baby” so to speak.

SS: Totally! When it was released I really felt like it was my baby.
