I will most likely binge Wednesday on Netflix and imbibe in wine and nosh while doing so.

When the riotous, confrontational 'last ever' Iggy & the Stooges gig Metallic KO was issued in 1976 on the French indie Skydog label, it heralded the punk movement and cemented Iggy's position in it. Iggy’s career then took off, and a lengthy liaison between Skydog and Iggy Pop continued, with releases through and beyond the Stooges reunion 29 years later.

Here are all of the Skydog label's Iggy releases, remastered, in a clam-shell box set containing seven CDs and a DVD – a fitting tribute to the label’s punk pioneer boss Marc Zermati, who passed away in June. Marc started Skydog in 1973, arguably Europe’s first independent rock label, and in the same year that Metallic KO was released he organized the "First Punk Festival" in Mont de Marsan. He worked closely with The Clash, Johnny Thunders, Wilko Johnson, and Chrissie Hynde and many others.

Alongside Metallic KO the box includes the two Metallic KO source tape gigs, pitch-corrected after a tape speed fault was discovered; two collections of live and studio rare songs; unusual Iggy acoustic shows on DVD; a studio acoustic CD and the Stooges long-awaited 2003 live reunion in Tokyo. The 48-page booklet has notes by Paul Trynka, the Iggy Pop ‘Open Up and Bleed’ biographer and former MOJO editor, and rare and unseen photos.

D.O.A: A Right Of Passage

Punk Rock + It's Origin = D.O.A. The film will be coming to select theaters in mid-November, and will also be available in a collector's edition Blu-ray + DVD package. "High Times is pleased to finally uncover and restore this extraordinary, vintage film - D.O.A.," said High Times owner and CEO Adam Levin.  The vision for the film can be attributed to two people: Tom Forcade (the founder of High Times magazine) and filmmaker Lech Kowalski (East of Paradise). The production centered around the Sex Pistols 1978 tour of the US, which ended with the group breaking up. Forcade and Kowalski followed the band with handheld cameras through the clubs and bars during their seven-city U.S. tour.  Mixing this with footage of other contemporary bands, trends in the fashion capitals and punks of all shapes and colors, the film makers captured a grainy, stained snapshot of the punk movement at its peak (which includes the now famous footage of Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen in bed) along with rare interview and concert footage of the late seventies punk rock music scene.  As John Holmstrom, Founding Editor of PUNK Magazine, writes in his liner notes: "D.O.A., the original 1950 film noir and A Rite of Passage's namesake, was about a dead man walking who wanted to get revenge on his killers. The Horror: Devil's Domain

The Devil really did make her do it...

Cleopatra Entertainment has announced the home video release of DEVIL'S DOMAIN, starring Michael Madsen, Sticky Fingers, Fred Rose, Rene Nezhola (STORAGE WARS) and featuring the music of Iggy Pop, DMX, The Onyx, and more. The film is currently available on all VOD platforms, and will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray July 11th.

 

DEVIL'S DOMAIN is a new-age horror film centered on a cyber-bullying incident at a fictional high school that goes terribly wrong. The victim then seeks her own unique form of revenge, albeit with some super-natural help along the way. 

 

DEVIL'S DOMAIN was written and directed by Jared Cohn (THE HORDE, WISHING FOR A DREAM, THE DOMICILE) and was produced by David Sterling. Brian Perera is Executive producing with Tim Yasui co-producing for Cleopatra Entertainment.

 

"Devil's Domain is a story about the ramifications of social media, cyber-bullying and how it affects the youth of today," said director Cohn.

 

Cohn has also been tapped to write and direct the upcoming Cleopatra project STREET SURVIVORS, based on the ill-fated 1977 plane crash that took the lives of several of the Lynyrd Skynyrd band members and crew as seen thru the eyes of Artimus Pyle, the band's drummer at the time and one of the surviving members of the plane crash.

Saturday Sinema: Starlight

Iggy Pop and I sat naked next to each other in the steam room at the gym once...the more you know.

Cleopatra Entertainment LLC, the movie division of famed indie record label Cleopatra Records, has acquired all domestic rights to Starlight, a feature film by French film maker Sophie Blondy, coming to Blu-ray and VOD on May 9th.

Set in the dunes near the North Sea, a small circus company is suffering from a serious lack of audience for their shows. Spectators are rare but the magic of the circus still thrives.

Each performer rehearses and performs new numbers, but this fragile balance will quickly shatter to unveil their real nature and their most obscure feelings. The circus will then become a place of romantic lust where each will use their powers to satisfy their desires.

Angele, the diaphanous ballerina, her clown lover Elliot and the circus ringmaster, full of cruelty and disturbed by fits of schizophrenia on one side. Zohra in love with Elliot, haunted by an uncanny conscience on the other side. Secrets, jealousy, envy will progressively take hold of them and trigger some irreversible acts. The life of the circus will then take a whole new turn. Iggy Pop appears throughout the film as an "angel" type character.

Starlight was selected and screened at Tallinn - Black Nights Film Festival (Estonia, 2013), Montreal World Film Festival (Canada, 2013), Moscow - International Film Festival (Russia, 2013), Rendez-vous with New French Cinema in Rome (2013), and at Rotterdam International Film Festival (Netherlands, 2013).

Blondy has worked on several films and with talent such as Andrzej Zulawski, Bruno Nuytten, and Tran Anh Hung. In 2000, she directed her first short film Her & Him At the 14th Floor filmed in Amiens with Guillaume Depardieu.

Pivotal Silicon Valley innovators will converge on their home turf with some of the biggest names in music when THE C2SV TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE + MUSIC FESTIVAL,headlined by protopunk legends Iggy and the Stooges, takes over Downtown San Jose to celebrate the digital culture explosion Thursday, Sept. 26 through Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013.

The newly re-branded festival expands on the success of last year’s inaugural Silicon Valley Sound Experience to showcase more than 70 emerging and established acts in over a dozen downtown venues as well as St. James Park, site of the Sept. 28 outdoor concert that will be headlined by Iggy and the Stooges. Other acts on board for C2SV include ‘90s alt-rock pioneers The Lemonheads, electro-pop duo The Limousines, Oakland’s The Coup, featuring Boots Riley and DJ Pam the Funkstress, and modern funk pioneer Dam-Funk.

On the tech side, Robert Scoble (Rackspace, Scobleizer), Jeff Stibel(Author of bestseller “Breakpoint”), Nolan Bushnell (inventor of the first videogame and founder of Atari), Chris Anderson (3D Robotics, former editor of Wired), Andre Haddad (CEO, RelayRides), Steve Westly (venture capitalist and former California comptroller), Hugh Williams (Ebay) and Steve Kirsch (Infoseek, OneID) are among the more than 200 speakers who will share new ideas during presentations and panels at the technology conference. Scoble will moderate the keynote session that opens the technology programming which, over the course of three days, will explore a compelling range of topics such as the sharing economy, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, transmedia, mobile applications, social media and societal impacts of rapid technology change.

C2SV provides an exciting new platform for sharing ideas, discovering new music and, of course, having a lot of fun in the heart of Silicon Valley, the epicenter of the global digital revolution and a driving force behind the mega-festival industry. “With so much musical and technological talent here, it seemed obvious that there needed to be a local event for performers and technology innovators to network, collaborate and get a little crazy,” said C2SV organizer and longtime Silicon Valley journalist Dan Pulcrano. “Sure there are popular conference/festivals in Toronto, Portland, Austin and elsewhere. But C2SV will have a uniquely Silicon Valley stamp on it, with our legendary sunshine overhead and relaxed urban culture as a backdrop.”

C2SV also is an opportunity for the valley’s hard working technical workforce to experience a festival of music and advanced ideas without having to sleep on someone’s couch in another city. The conference and accompanying expo will inaugurate the new wing of the San Jose McEneryConvention Center, a $120 million expansion that will open in September.
