Got Deathwish? Red Sun Rising

Sunflower Power!
Red Sun Rising
I see the Red Sun Rising....

Rock radio hit-makers Red Sun Rising return with their brand new music video for their first single, “Deathwish”, off of the band’s forthcoming sophomore release Thread out on March 30th (Concord Music/Razor & Tie). The anthemic single “Deathwish” is currently #17 on Billboard’s Active Rock Chart and is available for purchase on iTunes, Apple Music, and Amazon.  The apocalyptic video, directed by Brad Golowin can be viewed here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0crY95eobHU

In addition, the band have offered “Fascination” as their 2nd instant grat track.  The epic video for the song pays homage to Georges Méliès 1902 Silent film Le Voyage dans la Luneand shows off the band’s intricate detail to their musicianship with their 3 part harmony choruses and more.  View the video here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tk58EKCFqUY
Produced by Matt Hyde (Deftones, AFI, Porno For Pyros) and mixed by Jay Ruston,Thread continues to expand on Red Sun Rising’s concept of mixing different genres and influences to create a unique sound. Physical pre-order’s for the highly anticipated release are available for purchase on Merchnow.

When asked about the upcoming album, lead singer Mike Protich stated, “This album feels like a rebirth. Although Red Sun Rising played 140 shows on our last tour, it was not until we made this album that I felt we became a band.  The growth and evolution of RSR that you will hear in our sound and our songwriting builds on our ‘Thread’ mentality (songs that people can love and sing with us but don’t fit a mold).  We aren’t chasing trends and never will.”

Red Sun Rising made headlines with their debut full-length album Polyester Zeal and earned their own piece of rock radio history with two back-to-back #1 hit singles off of their debut album on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Chart.  This marked the first time in over a decade that a band has achieved back-to-back #1s on the Rock Chart with its first two singles, “The Otherside”- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1cj2M_Mprw and “Emotionless -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awyBrr0P69A&list=RDZteET49NfHs.” Adding to their radio success, the band was nominated in the “Best New Rock/Alternative Rock Artist”category (Foals, Kaleo, Nathaniel Rateliff, The Strumbellas, Red Sun Rising) for the 2017 iHeartRadio Music Awards.  RSR was also named New Artist of the Year at the 2016 Radio Contraband Awards.

The band will hit the road this spring with their U.S. headline tour in support of the forthcoming release. Red Sun Rising will be performing at all of the major rock festivals this year as well. For all upcoming show dates, see below.

Michael's Musings

And The Oscar Goes To...
Michael Shinafelt
"I never really saw anything grow before. How tiny those seeds were and yet they know they were supposed to be lettuces." - Marilyn Monroe, The Misfits

While Marilyn Monroe never won a Best Actress Oscar she did in my mind for The Misfits. Written by her former husband Arthur Miller and Directed by the great John Houston. Marilyn Monroe etched a portrait in my soul as Roslyn Taber

Even though she won a Golden Globe for Some Like It Hot (she was brilliant) Oscar gold always eluded her.

Didn't we all fancy a dream in passing when we were young of winning one? But of course we did! Moving on as we got older and realized being an Academy Award Winning star might not necessarily be out path?

With the arrival of the big event Sunday this weeks column is a tribute, trivia and salute to the dreamer in us all!

Oscar Winner for Funny Girl Barbara Streisand had her dog cloned. Hey Barbara, did you not see Pet Semetary?!

Kate Winslet keeps her Oscar in the bathroom

I've held the Oscar that Dan Jinks won as Producer for Best Picture, American Beauty

"As a little kid I lived in the projects, and you're the people I watched. You're the people wanted—made me want to be an actor. I'm so proud to be here. I'm proud to be an actor and I'm gonna keep on acting. And thank you so much" Whoopi Goldberg,Best Supporting Actress for Ghost

The first Academy Awards ceremony was held in 1929 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel

Meryl Streep is the most nominated in the Best Actress category for an Oscar, clocking in at 17 nominations

Jack Nicholson is the most nominated actor with 12 under his belt

My dream was always to win an Oscar for portraying someone truly evil

"When I was little my mother said, "I want you to be something." And I guess this represents twenty-three or twenty-four years of my work, and I've never won anything before from my peers. I'm really, really happy" Cher, Best Actress for Moonstruck
Margot Robbie
My personal pic for Best Actress this year? Margot Robbie for I, Tonya

Who could ever forget Sally Field's battle cry:  "I can't deny the fact that you like me. Right now, you like me!"

Remember that time when 72 year old Jack Palance won his Best Supporting Actor Oscar for City Slickers and did one armed push-ups on stage? I do.

Weirdest Oscar winning song? It's Hard Out There For a Pimp by 3 6 Mafia from Hustle & Flow

Strange Best Supporting Actor Nominee: Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder. He's great! But think about it, not too much.

And the Oscar goes to...find out this Sunday!

Hump Day & Chill

Coming & Going There's Nothing Like Daddy's Boy
Zac Efron
This week's Hump Day & Chill is brought to you by Daddy's Boy, Zac Efron. As you all know I have a thing for Zac and "yes" I follow him on Instagram

Well my boy Zac has been posting a lot of images from the set of his latest movie bearing the hashtag #wickedcrew which intrigued me, duh. So I surfed over to IMDB and it turns out my boy is portraying serial killer/rapist Ted Bundy in an opus with the title Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile - say that three times fast, c'mon I dare ya.

Awwwwwwww, my little boy is growing up. Also he is the perfect choice to play the monster formerly known as Ted Bundy. Why? Because Ted was extremely charismatic and good looking. How else do you think he lured his female prey?

Boy Zac

Ted Bundy
Even though I have included an image from the upcoming film the point of Hump Day & Chill is to ogle Man Candy, and that I have with nearly naked images of Zac from Dirty Grandpa

You can clearly see why he is Daddy's Boy.

Michael has left the building...

Gwen & Blake Wig Out!

What's That On Your Head? A Wig!
Gwen Stefani & Blake Shelton
What would you do for a Scooby Snack? Well if your Gwen Stefani & Blake Shelton you would don wigs and go as Daphne & Shaggy to her son Apollo Rossdale's Scooby Doo themed 4th Birthday party, that's what.

Aren't they the cutest? Honestly when I first heard these two, who met while being vocal coaches/judges on The Voice were a couple I was skeptical. You know ratings, PR and all that jazz.

Obviously they are the real deal and have lasted way past the shelf life I would have expected post Gwen not appearing on the show.

Good for them!

Now that I've done my due diligence I'm going to grab myself a Snack, of a non Scooby kind and motor off to spin class.

Holla!

Blonde Oprah

Mrs. Which, I Presume...
Oprah Winfrey
She's back and she's blonde, get used to it. That's correct peeps Oprah Winfrey is giving you blonde ambition in her latest opus A Wrinkle in Time. She plays a character named Mrs. Which, is she a good one, or a bad one? We will find out on March 9th, unless you have read the novel, well then I assume you already know the answer.

For those of us unfamiliar like me here is the storyline:

"Following the discovery of a new form of space travel as well as Meg's father's disappearance, she, her brother, and her friend must join three magical beings - Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which - to travel across the universe to rescue him from a terrible evil"

Sounds pretty standard, but here is the ahem, wrinkle that makes this guy want to go see it:

"The movie, is about what it means to be a source of light in a world in which darkness seems only to proliferate. It also makes the case for thinking independently when conformity is the norm."

Yes the perfect antidote to the times we live in.

Oprah is quoted, saying:

“I felt like we were making the new Wizard of Oz for another generation.”

Color me very intrigued...Blonde Oprah on a Blue Monday indeed!

Need A Hand?

Hands On
Sarah Michelle Gellar
Ever sit and ponder "I wonder what Sarah Michelle-Gellar is doing" more than likely she is getting a hand. She is and I quote "obsessed" with a handy piece of furniture she owns, what is it? Why her very own hand chair, naturally.

Thus our beloved Buffy the Vampire Slayer always has something at hand to get the job done. She is never lacking in the hands on department and she has a hand and then some.

Some women have all the luck.

Hey Sarah gimme a hand sometime will ya? I need one for an extra special job.

After all wouldn't you give your hand to a friend? Of course you would....

Oh Daddy!

Who's Your Daddy?
Josh Duhamel
While I have never thought of Josh Duhamel one way or the other this image of him attending the premiere of his latest Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac & The Notorious B.I.G. made me do a double take and say: Oh Daddy!

See Josh on the red carpet, see Josh dressed to kill, see Josh sporting salt & pepper hair, and looking like a studly Daddy.

Wow! Who knew all it would take for me to notice Josh was not coloring his hair?

Now that you've got my attention Mr. Duhamel, let's see if you can keep it.

Mic Drop!
