Just Because it's whimsical, Just Because it's artsy and Just Because it's Taylor Swift photographed by Annie Leibovitz, Heeeeeere's Taylor as Disney's Rapunzel!
Annie as you may or may not know shot a series a various celebs as Disney characters in an ad campaign for the parks called, what else? Disney Dreams.
I love this campaign and ever so often I run an image from it here on Entertain Me. Well with Taylor Swift being everywhere 24/7 not to mention that she appears in this month's movie musical Cats today it was her time to take the Disney Princess throne.
Thus Just Because it's my blog and I do what I want to, this is what you get on this Tuesday December 10, 2019.
I have always had a fascination with the "Got Milk?" ads. As a non milk drinker (ugh!) this hard sell campaign featured celebrities at their most silly. Can you imagine how over the moon I was that I came across this doozy with Angelina Jolie promoting Tomb Raider?! I love surfing the WWW because of the random things that I find while researching something else, it's awesome! Thus with Maleficent: Mistress of Evil coming at ya October 18th I couldn't resist running this gem that is downright, well, goofy AF. Honestly though it does not look like Jolie posed for an actual "Got Milk?" ad. It does look like the studio took a still of her as Lara Croft and submitted it to the campaign to give the movie a PR boost. Hmmmmmmm....I wonder if Disney will follow suit and we will see Jolie as Maleficent with a milk moustache? Now that's entertainment! James Durbin has left the building. "Yes" the rumor is true,he's vacated the role of Quiet Riot frontman. Durbin joined the veteran heavy hard rock band in March 2017. Formed in 1973, Quiet Riot had its biggest hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1983 with “Cum on Feel the Noize,” a cover of Slade’s 1973 U.K. hit. The Quiet Riot version peaked at No. 5 on the Hot 100. As you recall Durbin also made a not so Quiet Riot of his own when he was placed fourth on Season 10 of American Idol. Evolving is a part of life, when the time comes to do other things, you know it and had better pay attention to your inner voice. James told Entertain Me about his not being with the band - "I'm proud of and grateful for my time in Quiet Riot, but I'm really looking forward to releasing a new EP in early 2020, and working on various new projects. Including Voice Over acting for Disney/Star Wars: "Choose Your Destiny" My hometown rock cover band The Lost Boys and California country band Homeland Revival. As well as any new opportunities that come my way." Best wishes buddy and "May the force be with you" always. Durbin on IG - https://www.instagram.com/jamesdurbinofficial/?hl=en
So one of the buzz's of the week was an image of Emma Stone as Cruella De Vil from the upcoming Disney origin story "Cruella" from the classic "101 Dalmatians." Of course the Twitter-verse went into overdrive Tweeting like an angry bird frenzy about Stone's look in the upcoming dog tail. "Uh is tim Burton directing this," asked Andy Signore on Twitter, referencing her "Edward Scissorhands" look. "EMMA STONE COMO CRUELLA DE VIL... DISNEY STOP THIS," "She doesn't really fit the right class for her decade in this outfit. She looks more like a middle class thug in New Orleans than Upper Crust London," "More like this," said another person, comparing Stone's look to Frank N. Furter from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." The new look was revealed during Disney's D23Expo in Anaheim, California. Stone made a video appearance during the expo, revealing that the film will be set in London's punk rock era of the 1970s. Phew that explains it all. Although I took to the look right off the bat myself...I guess I'm not a hardcore stickler when it comes to historically accurate details in a film about a mad woman who wants a coat made of Dalmatians. Based on the acclaimed graphic novel about one of the
most notorious serial killers of our time
"This film is sensitively wrought. It's credible in its evocation of mid-'70s suburbia. The acting is excellent throughout, and Ross Lynch in the role of Dahmer elicits genuine sympathy for an increasingly lost but not yet monstrous soul."
- Glenn Kenny, New York Times
My Friend Dahmer is based on the acclaimed graphic novel about one of the most notorious serial killers ever. Its screenplay landed a spot on the coveted 'Black List', ranking it as one of the best un-produced screenplays (at the time) before becoming a hit movie.
My Friend Dahmer had a theatrical release in 2017 and has grossed over $1,300,000. It played extensively on the festival circuit, premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival and going on to play at LA Film Festival, Deauville Film Festival, American Film Festival, and many others. The film features an all-star cast that includes Emmy Nominee Anne Heche (Donnie Brasco), SAG Award winner Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men), Former Disney star Ross Lynch (Austin & Ally), Alex Wolff (Patriot's Day) and Dallas Roberts (3:10 To Yuma).
Jeffrey Dahmer murdered 17 men and boys in the Midwest United States between 1978 and 1991 before being captured and incarcerated. He would become one of America's most infamous serial killers. This is the story before that story.
SYNOPSIS:
Jeff Dahmer (Lynch) is an awkward teenager struggling to make it through high school with a family life in ruins. He collects roadkill, fixates on a neighborhood jogger (Kartheiser), and copes with his unstable mother (Heche) and well intentioned father (Roberts). He begins to act out at school, and his goofball antics win over a group of band-nerds who form The Dahmer Fan Club, headed by Derf Backderf (Wolff). But this camaraderie can't mask his growing depravity. Approaching graduation, Jeff spirals further out of control, inching ever closer to madness.
"A warped wonder of a movie about a cannibalistic serial killer's awkward teenage years-it takes twisted to areas few have investigated." - Pat Travers, Rolling Stone
"As My Friend Dahmer slowly steers its protagonist toward his historical fate, the result is crushing." - Andrew Karpan, Film School Rejects
"Writer-director Marc Meyers turns Backderf's celebrated book into an absorbing, dramatized portrait of casual cruelty and teenage desperation, equal parts The Virgin Suicides and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre." - Joshua Rothkopf, Time Out
"Meyers makes 'My Friend Dahmer' a convincing high school drama, but his portrait of the serial killer as a young man telegraphs Dahmer's future all too clearly."
She's back and she's blonde, get used to it. That's correct peeps Oprah Winfrey is giving you blonde ambition in her latest opus A Wrinkle in Time. She plays a character named Mrs. Which, is she a good one, or a bad one? We will find out on March 9th, unless you have read the novel, well then I assume you already know the answer. For those of us unfamiliar like me here is the storyline: "Following the discovery of a new form of space travel as well as Meg's father's disappearance, she, her brother, and her friend must join three magical beings - Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which - to travel across the universe to rescue him from a terrible evil" Sounds pretty standard, but here is the ahem, wrinkle that makes this guy want to go see it: "The movie, is about what it means to be a source of light in a world in which darkness seems only to proliferate. It also makes the case for thinking independently when conformity is the norm." Yes the perfect antidote to the times we live in. Oprah is quoted, saying:
“I felt like we were making the new Wizard of Oz for another generation.”
Color me very intrigued...Blonde Oprah on a Blue Monday indeed!
Never did I think the day would come when I would take seriously a case being made that Belle from Disney's Beauty and the Beast is a better role model than their Cinderella is. But and however, when the person presenting the evidence is one Ms. Emma Watson I listen. Her opinions are articulate, intelligent and immaculately stated. Ms. Watson actually turned down the role of the glass slipper losing princess in Kenneth Branagh's film, who was ultimately portrayed by Lily Collins. She was then offered Beauty and the Beast. The character of Belle resonated with her so much more. Here is the reason she feels Belle trumps Cindy any given day (source E!Online): Watson argues Belle is a much better "role model" than Cinderella. "She remains curious, compassionate and open-minded. And that's the kind of woman I would want to embody as a role model, given the choice," she explains. "There's this kind of outsider quality that Belle had, and the fact she had this really empowering defiance of what was expected of her. In a strange way, she challenges the status quo of the place she lives in, and I found that really inspiring. She manages to keep her integrity and have a completely independent point of view. She's not easily swayed by other people's perspective—not swayed by fear-mongering or scapegoating." Well, you can't argue this now, can you? You can try, but... Well, well, well the first full length feature trailer for Disney's live action version of their animated classic Beauty and the Beast has been released. I have one thing to say: for the love of Emma Watson, magnificent! This looks like the reel deal. Yes, I meant to spell real that way, as it seems like a really heartfelt & beautiful transition from animation to live action that has the heart and soul of the material of which it is based on. Personally, I loved the animated BB when it came out in theaters. That's pretty abnormal for someone who really has not liked many animated films since he was a child. I believed I actually dropped a tear or two, FML! Now onto my Emma Watson love. I am a curmudgeon, thus I so could not get into the first Harry Potter epic that I did not watch the others. But Emma has really proved herself to be an intelligent, poised not to mention articulate young woman who I greatly admire. I did see her in My Week With Marilyn though, In short, she is one of my girl crushes. Dear Emma, hey you, I will be seeing this. Respect & admiration always...jump to the trailer below!
Is there or isn't there a same sex couple in the upcoming Disney/Pixar production Finding Dory? There is a scene in the trailer which depicts two women caring over a baby in a stroller. Hmmmmmm...while no speculation has been addressed directly here is what Dory aka Ellen Degeneres has to say about it: "I personally think it's a great thing, I think everything that we see in the media, whether it's television or film or anything you see—should represent everything that's happening in the world. I think everybody that is in the world should be seen and represented." Ellen did have one issue with the potential same sex couple in Finding Dory. "One woman has a very bad short haircut, which I find very offensive" Ha! At least it isn't a damned mullet! Find out the full scoop when Finding Dory hits theaters this Friday June 17th. We are the world, and so is Ellen at: www.ellentv.com/
Since it's always manic on Monday I thought I would share a Sunday fun day nostalgic blast from the past. I present to you Lindsay Lohan visiting her London home from the Disney classic film The Parent Trap.
For the uninitiated Lindsay had game playing twins Hallie Parker and Annie James. Hallie lived in Napa, CA., with her father Nick Parker (Dennis Quaid). Annie resided with her mom Elizabeth James (the late Natasha Richardson) in London.
Yes, two adorable little Lindsay's in one crowd pleasing movie. She did what is all the rage these days and took to her Instagram and posted said photo with the caption:
"A trip down memory lane #sundayfunday, #theparenttrapmovie Annie's house but it was number 7 in the movie." Awwwwwwwwwwww...Happy Monday and have a Terrific Week! Lindsay on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lindsaylohan/?hl=en
I guess there has been some confusion of late as to whether Zac Efron enjoyed his High School Musical days at Disney. Since I never really track petty things like that and simply hear about how the star in question puts the kibosh on it that is how you are getting Efron's Flashback Friday photo that he posted of himself, Ashley Tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens & Corbin Bleu from 2008. He captioned it: "So grateful I came across this picture... with the o.g. crew during one of the most cherished times of my life. #fbf" See Zac isn't anti Troy Bolton after all and why should he be?! This is what put him on the Hollywood radar. I for one enjoyed the first High School Musical it was a throwback to things I used to watch as a kid. Oh, and it didn't hurt that Efron was in it ; ) Time to get Sentimental it's Saturday. Go Back To "High School"on IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0475293/
Scarlett Johansson & Her Alter Ego, Kaa The Jungle Book
Normally I don't get too juiced about re-dos of movies. Especially one of my favorites, of which Disney's animated version of The Jungle Book happens to be. This being said I am looking forward to the arrival of the "live action" version of it swinging into theaters this April 15th. The preview looks amazing!
Although I am not quite sure why it is being called "live action" as the only character who is not CGI is Neel Sethi as Mowgli the man cub. Oh well.
One of the things that literally hypnotizes me and Mowgli in the preview is images of Kaa the snake with a spot on vocal performance by Scarlett Johansson. This is one python that could definitely cast a spell on anyone and make them submit to their will.
It sends a chill up my spine when Scarlett hisses: "Trussst in meeee"
Proving that old adage about a "snake in the grass."
Paid Shill, or Bad Hairstyle Choice? Ariana Grands
Is Ariana Grande on the Disney payroll?! That can be the only explanation for her questionable hairstyle. "Yes" in the tradition of the repellent man bun trend, Ariana is sporting mini bobs. Which, depending on your perspective either look like Minnie Mouse ears or an ode to Princess Leia from Star Wars. Both interpretations prove there may be a conspiracy going on and Disney is paying her to wear them since Minnie and Star Wars are both property of the House of Mouse. Ariana Grande undercover Disney Pimp, think about it...why the Hell else would her boyfriend Ricky Alvarez be seen in public with her looking this goofy? The truth is out there, really it is. Being that Whitney Houston was the number one influence on him as a singer it was merely a matter of time before singer/musician/artist Matt Zarley dropped a cover of one of her many classics. That day has arrived! Yes today Matt's cover of I Look To You drops on iTunes.
To celebrate I asked Mr. Zarley to give me ten reasons Whitney was his favorite artist of all time.
Of course he gave the awesome type of answers only a super fan could.
Take it away Matt!
1. Her debut album (I played the cassette so much that I actually had to replace it)
2. “If You Say My Eyes Are Beautiful” - I was so obsessed with this song. I used to play
the last half from the end of the bridge thru to the end and marvel at her stunning
vocals. https://youtu.be/IzYIBlA7hDs
3. “The Greatest Love of All” music video - The part where she walks across the stage in
her silver evening gown. To this day, there’s something simple yet magical in that
moment. https://youtu.be/IYzlVDlE72w
4. “I’m Your Baby Tonight” album - This is when we started to hear her really rip thru a
song. Her first 2 albums were very refined; whereas this was the moment we started to
hear her true r&b roots.
5. “Welcome Home Heroes” HBO Concert - This is one of the greatest concerts ever.
She has never sounded better. Billy Porter and I would sit in my NYC apartment for
hours, watching and studying her nuances. This is also when Billy and I so lovingly
nicknamed her SONGSTRESS: ALL THAT IS VOICE. (I’m totally not lying) https:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=11x2xf5BE6Q
6. The Bodyguard - This was her peak, vocally. She was the platinum standard of which
most singers of my generation looked up to.
7. Cinderella - I actually appeared in this Disney television tv movie. She was the exec
producer and star of this. Though I didn’t get to work with her (I worked with Brandy
for a month), I love to be able to say I was in the same film with her. :)
8. “The Star Spangled Banner” - THE BEST rendition of this classic. No one will ever top
her performance ever.
9. Her talent and artistry - I don’t think most people really appreciated how gifted she
was. She made it look so easy. She had a gift for connecting to a lyric and really
communicating that story to the listener. She could draw you in to her. Very few artists
can stand at a microphone and just sing….and make you feel something, really affect
you. She had that gift. She didn’t need to fly, flash her nipples, or kiss another woman
to get your attention. Her artistry was enough. https:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=11x2xf5BE6Q
10. That voice - In my opinion, she was and is the greatest pop vocalist ever. She had that
mezzo soprano range that allowed her to glide thru octaves seemlessly. She knew the
importance of a melody and not to oversing or over embellish a song. She respected
the music. She would always establish the tune first before riffing her face off…which
always felt like it made sense. Her intonation and clarity of tone was off the charts
perfect. She truly had the most beautiful instrument we will likely ever hear. No one
even comes close. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cdEH_tTvug
Do you believe in fairies? If so clap your hands, Reese Witherspoon is set to produce and star in Tink. Tink will be a live action story based on the temperamental character Tinker Bell from Peter Pan. Much like Angelina Jolie in Maleficent,Tink is supposed to give viewers insight into "the story you don't know," and will offer a new perspective on our favorite Disney fairy. Reese will be an awesome Tinker Bell! But please Reese, don't wear boots. Reese on IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000702/?ref_=fn_nm_nm_1
Nothing Unfortunate Here: Val Chmerkovskiy & Rumer Willis
Although I do not watch Dancing With The Stars on a regular basis I did happen to catch the Disney themed dance off. Rumer Willis, daughter of Bruce Willis & Demi Moore, stole the show as Ursula the Sea Witch from The Little Mermaid. Her and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy did a red hot Samba to the song Poor Unfortunate Souls. Avid DWTS watcher and Entertain Me chanteuse Sandy Zacky had this to say about Ms. Willis:
"I knew very little about this girl except the obvious. Never gave her much thought really but she changed my mind the day she explained how difficult it was reading very negative things about herself as a young child and later a young woman. Shallow idiots talking about her looks and not in a positive way and how she overcame the hurt that it caused her.
I fell in like with this young woman and then her dancing, wow!!!!
Great dancer. A natural really. She shows grace and talent. Beautiful dancer !
She is a beautiful person and I think she is stunning!"
Revenge is one of the most uneven, frustrating shows I have ever followed. Every season contains good episodes and bad ones, the week to week quality of the show is like a game of darts sometimes it hits sometimes, OK most of the time, it misses.
The last two weeks episodes have left me underwhelmed. Yet I continue to watch and there is added incentive this Sunday as one of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Kim Richards guest stars.
Richards is what drew me to watch RHOBH in the first place as she was a child star when I was growing up. She starred in one of my fave Disney films ever Escape to Witch Mountain. So there!
Obviously Revenge felt the need to call in a drama pro for some extra trouble and Kim is a perfect choice to do just that!
Richards will be playing Stephanie, a society lady and friend of Victoria's (Madeleine Stowe), who is a member of Nolan's (Gabriel Mann) Southampton Beach Club. Will Stephanie will be carrying some secrets in her purse? Do you really need to ask? She and her friend Heather each have a secret or three and they're willing to pay good money to keep them on the down low. So Revenge you have managed to rope me in for one more Sunday by choosing a cleverly well cast guest star. Guess who will be back for more? Yep, me, it's a no brainer. It's been 17 years since Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, That's correct, 17 whole long years since Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow cracked our collective asses up!
Wow time flies, but if memory serves me, High School Reunions happen every 10 years, so these two are overdue for another kick ass time at the place of their awkward years.
Sorvino says that she and Kudrow as well as the movie's creator and writer, Robin Schiff, want to do a sequel to the 1997 cult favorite, but Disney doesn't seem to agree.
"Disney, if you're listening—everybody wants it!" states Sorvino, "Me and Lisa and Robin would love to do a sequel. We have asked Disney before. It's Disney that has to decide to say yes."
Mira further extrapolates "I don't think they realize what a cult phenomenon it has become. I mean, people dress up as us for Halloween!"
That's right Haus of Mouse, we want to know what happened to these two icons post their ten year reunion, Mickey can you hear us?!
Were here were Romy & Michele fans, deal with it!
I for one would love to see this happen, oh and a note to the Haus of Mouse, if you have not had green cheese before (although I am 100% sure you have) there will be plenty if you grant fans of this awesome movie their wish.
