Happy Superbowl 50 people! I hope your favorite team wins, you have a fifty/fifty chance of that happening after all. Of course Lady Gaga is guaranteed to score a touchdown for team Mother Monster performing the Star Spangled Banner. Which brings me to this photo of Superman in the flesh, Henry Cavill. Mr. Cavill is a relative newcomer to Social Media joining the flock a mere four months ago. He has now given fans what they have been waiting for, a shirtless selfie! The caption read: “Warm up phase for Superman training started today! Posting this pic to set myself a minimum goal … and force myself to actually keep going haha! @gritandteeth.” Henry will appear next as Superman in Batman v Superman. Not only did February bring hope of an early spring courtesy of a groundhog, it also brings us a world ruled by Lady Gaga. Yeah, I know there are some of you who think that is a year round thing. I am skeptical on that one, but, I will give the tip of the hat to her, Tony Bennett style for the second month of 2016. So gather round peeps and get the 411 on the two huge reasons Gaga owns your ass for February.... First off the mother of all monsters will perform an "Experimental" tribute to David Bowie at the 2016 Grammy Awards on February 15th. Normally this show falls under AAAC (avoid at all costs,) But this is inspired perfection! After all what has Gaga's career been other than one big tribute to one of the Gods of rock? Lapping up the momentum of this blessed announcement comes another Gaga bon mot. She is officially singing the National Anthem at Superbowl 50 this Sunday! Marlee Matlin will be signing it alongside her. Wow! This is going to be some opener to the football's biggest day. The Lady has proven she has the chops to score a touchdown with this, and while I doubt she will veer to far from a traditional delivery of such a revered song, I bet we will get some Gaga flourishes and she will make the performance all hers. Being that Whitney Houston was the number one influence on him as a singer it was merely a matter of time before singer/musician/artist Matt Zarley dropped a cover of one of her many classics. That day has arrived! Yes today Matt's cover of I Look To You drops on iTunes.
To celebrate I asked Mr. Zarley to give me ten reasons Whitney was his favorite artist of all time.

1. Her debut album (I played the cassette so much that I actually had to replace it)
2. “If You Say My Eyes Are Beautiful” - I was so obsessed with this song. I used to play
the last half from the end of the bridge thru to the end and marvel at her stunning

3. “The Greatest Love of All” music video - The part where she walks across the stage in
her silver evening gown. To this day, there’s something simple yet magical in that

4. “I’m Your Baby Tonight” album - This is when we started to hear her really rip thru a
song. Her first 2 albums were very refined; whereas this was the moment we started to
hear her true r&b roots.
5. “Welcome Home Heroes” HBO Concert - This is one of the greatest concerts ever.
She has never sounded better. Billy Porter and I would sit in my NYC apartment for
hours, watching and studying her nuances. This is also when Billy and I so lovingly

6. The Bodyguard - This was her peak, vocally. She was the platinum standard of which
most singers of my generation looked up to.
7. Cinderella - I actually appeared in this Disney television tv movie. She was the exec
producer and star of this. Though I didn’t get to work with her (I worked with Brandy
for a month), I love to be able to say I was in the same film with her. :)
8. “The Star Spangled Banner” - THE BEST rendition of this classic. No one will ever top
her performance ever.
9. Her talent and artistry - I don’t think most people really appreciated how gifted she
was. She made it look so easy. She had a gift for connecting to a lyric and really
communicating that story to the listener. She could draw you in to her. Very few artists
can stand at a microphone and just sing….and make you feel something, really affect
you. She had that gift. She didn’t need to fly, flash her nipples, or kiss another woman

10. That voice - In my opinion, she was and is the greatest pop vocalist ever. She had that
mezzo soprano range that allowed her to glide thru octaves seemlessly. She knew the
importance of a melody and not to oversing or over embellish a song. She respected
the music. She would always establish the tune first before riffing her face off…which
always felt like it made sense. Her intonation and clarity of tone was off the charts
perfect. She truly had the most beautiful instrument we will likely ever hear. No one

Hey all you Durbinators out there, you didn't think "Entertain Me" would go through the month of May without something about the man, James Durbin did you?
Last month you and I were there in full force supporting James at his Viper Room gig in Los Angeles, CA. This month James Continues to tour...Oh yeah! James across the globe!
He performed The Star Spangled Banner not too long ago at an Los Angeles Kings game, for those of you not in that loop, they are LA's professional hockey team. As we Durbinators know James performance of our National Anthem was on the level of Kelly Clarkson nailing it at The Superbowl. Lucky for us he's no Christina Aguliera when it comes to pride in the US.
James continues to tour as I type, track him down in a city near you - and a special thanks to the Durbinators, you all know who you are, who have supported this blog!
