"We're All In This Together"

D.O.A.'s Joe Keithley takes action on COVID-19 pandemic
by releasing benefit single "We're All in This Together"

Burnaby, BC CANADA - A punk legend / city councillor and local mayor have combined forces to create the seemingly impossible: a COVID-19 rock anthem.

Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley and Councillor Joe Keithley celebrate the spirit of our communities and our frontline workers with the release of "We're All in This Together," a passionate, upbeat song for our times.
"Joe wrote this great song, and I hope it energizes and fortifies people to stay strong," said Hurley. "It captures the community's grit and determination that we see all around us today, and calls on us to double down on our commitment to each other and beat COVID-19."
Keithley and Hurley performed the song - with appropriate physical distancing - for a video shot at Burnaby's Deer Lake Park. The song is both a salute to the resilience and perseverance of residents during the COVID-19 crisis and a rallying call:

"We're all in, this together We've got to brave, this stormy weather You can count on us, we're your neighbours We're all in, this together"

Councillor Keithley sings lead vocals and plays guitar for the arrangement, while Mayor Hurley, a lifelong guitar player, accompanies Keithley on bass and backup vocals.

"Writing this song was just a natural as I saw the growing effort by our fellow Canadians to keep as many folks as possible safe throughout the pandemic," said Keithley, who is also the front man for legendary punk band D.O.A. "It's my way of thanking and expressing my admiration for the nurses, doctors and all the front line workers. They are the best!"
Considered a 'godfather of Canadian punk,' Keithley founded D.O.A. in 1978. The band is known for its consistent thread of political activism and its diverse sound rooted in punk rock.
In 2018, Keithley took the band's slogan TALK-ACTION=0 to the next level when he was elected to Burnaby City Council. Hurley, a former fire fighter, was elected mayor in the same election and since then, the two musicians have performed together for a number of charitable events around town.

Good Friday - D.O.A.

D.O.A. "1978" Double 12" LP/CD coming May 3rd

Unreleased demos, rare tracks, and early singles
from Canada's punk pioneers
Godfathers of Hardcore 40th Anniversary Tour Continues

D.O.A. "1978" is a 21 track collection of unreleased demos, rare tracks, and early singles from Canada's punk pioneers. Joey Shithead Keithley went deep into the Sudden Death vault and came up with some super exciting and raw punk rock.

The album title and art concept is spike haired nod of the head to that early, dynamic era of D.O.A.and to the seven great former members of D.O.A., who have passed on. Their spirit and talent played a huge role into launching the band into worldwide prominence.

The two constants on the album are Joey Shithead and Chuck Biscuits who play on every track. From the start of "1978" the listener is drawn in by their wild, "I don't give a shit" approach to punk rock. Now some 40 years later you can hear it all, starting with the never seen light of day demo version of The Enemy. This demo has a different set of lyrics that speaks to fighting Nazis, strange, what is old is new and vital again.

There's a ton of exciting tracks that range from the never heard before: Bored and Suicidal, The Mutant, No God No War, Rip Dis Joint, No Way Out and Rent-A-Riot to classic early singles like Fucked Up Ronnie, Disco Sucks, World War 3, The Prisoner and Thirteen. You also get demo versions of America the Beautiful and Liar for Hire with Biscuits drumming, which are wildly different than the classic versions you hear on "War on 45."

On "1978" you hear the origins of hardcore and you get a full blast of D.O.A's politics and raucous humour. The album will be released as a double 12" LP/CD on May 3rd, go to Sudden Death Records for more info.

Against all odds Canada's punk godfather Joey Shithead Keithley elected to political office
In his hometown of Burnaby, BC, Canada, Joe ran a campaign based on affordable housings for all, help for the disadvantaged, sustainability and grassroots democracy. Facing well financed and vicious opponents, Keithley took a shoestring budget and his punk rock attitude and was elected as a city councilor. Burnaby is BC's third biggest city and Canada's most culturally diverse, 150 languages can be heard on the streets of Burnaby. Joe's always been involved in politics, including organizing Canada's first Rock Against Racism concert way back in 1979, so it just seemed like a natural progression for him to stand for election.

"When I ran it was pretty straight forward... I said housing should be a right and not a privilege and everybody's vote has to count," said Keithley. "I'm just using D.O.A.'s mantra: TALK - ACTION = 0 and applying it to politics. It's been fun to get in there and kick some ass!"

Since being elected, Keithley has helped set up the first homeless shelters in the city. He is also a key member of Burnaby's critical Affordable Housing Task Force. He has also stood up against junkets and perks to local politicians. Keithley was recently quoted as saying, "Give me some time, but I have my sight set on running for Canada's Prime Minister, so I can help attain justice and fairness for all Canadians."

It all comes full circle as he began his quest back in 1978 till now, hence the album name "1978."

D.O.A.'s last studio album Fight Back was hailed as their most innovative since War on 45 (1982).

It's a scathing and timely piece in which Joe deals with all manner of unseemly low characters and issues. The album opens with acerbic "You Need an Ass Kickin' Right Now," next rips right into the startling "Killer Cops," then smashes into the anthemic "Time To Fight Back," which is street punk resistance at its fiercest. The album proceeds with the timely "Gonna Set You Straight" with violent and natural ease, and continues with the vitriolic "I Just Got Back From the USA." Then, the album takes a funny twist with "We Won't Drink This Piss" (down with bad corporate beer!) and "You Can't Stop Me," a song in which Joe delves into the character of Slapshot's playing coach Reggie Dunlop (a natural alter ego perhaps).

The Godfathers of Hardcore continue their 40th anniversary tour in 2019 with dates in Canada, Europe, SE Asia, India, and the west coast of the US.

Bad Ass - Justin Trudeau

Human Rights
Justin Trudeau & Antoni Porowksi
When Rolling Stone Magazine ran the cover story on Justin Trudeau proclaiming "Why Can't He Be Our President?" I definitely felt the yearning for just that. America really does deserve someone, and something better than our current dictatorship.

"Yes" Trudeau is easy on the eyes too. Good looking and have you seen those images online, ya know the close ups of his supple bubble...OK I digress, his looks and booty are just a bonus.

Just when you thought Justin couldn't get any more bad ass witness him riding in the Montreal Pride Parade alongside Queer Eye star Antoni Porowski.

I'm not sure exactly what Canadians think of Trudeau's overall leadership, one thing is for sure he is obviously a Human Rights advocate and that is something I can get behind. Not like our current state of affairs where we have a leader who thinks no one should have any rights, except Straight Rich Caucasian Males.

I leave you with this Tuesday Thought -

My Code Name is: Agent Provocateur - that's why I am proudly sporting my "fag." T-Shirt. With hate speech so prominent this past week due to the Tweeting of one Roseanne, destroying her career and show revival with a few keystrokes. Well you know I couldn't #resist.

"Fight Back" May 1st...

Everything's OK It's...
D.O.A.

Get your punk on...!!!
D.O.A., Canada's legendary pioneering punks who set the bar high for punk and basically invented hardcore, are ready to rip it up on the occasion of their 40th anniversary. They have a brand new album called Fight Back and they are embarking on a worldwide tour to support this impressive new effort. The "Men of Action" are ready to take on all opposition and lay down a punk rock path of wild music and free thought. Their rough and ready line up is led by the godfather of Hardcore, Joe Shithead Keithley (guitar, vocals) he is more than ably accompanied by the manic rhythm section of Paddy Duddy (drums) and Corkscrew (bass).
Early reviews indicate that Fight Back is the most innovative D.O.A. album since War on 45D.O.A. has always been right on the pulse of what's going on in our screwed up world. Fight Back deals with what we have left, which in a lot of ways, is not much.
"When you really think about it, income inequality and disparity is at the root of a lot huge problems, like environmental degradation, war, sexism and hate" said Keithley who has been fighting the good fight for the last 40 years. It's why he's made TALK - ACTION = 0 his lifelong mantra.

Fight Back, released on Joe's own label Sudden Death Records, is a scathing and timely piece. Joe deals with all manner of unseemly low characters and issues.
D.O.A. was formed amidst a whirlwind of controversy and upheaval. In 1978, three guys fresh out of high school from the backwaters of Canada's suburbs heard about the punk rock revolution. In February of that same year the band formed and started playing shows. They soon realized that there were no record deals coming in any time soon.
Keithley (aka Joey Shithead) who was working towards being a civil rights lawyer before he found punk rock, concluded that the band had to take the "do it yourself" approach long before DIY became a popular concept. He formed a fledging record label called Sudden Death Recordsand the label released D.O.A.'s first snarling slab of vinyl, the Disco Sucks 7" EP.
Disco Sucks soon became an underground hit and the band started touring from Vancouver to their newly adopted "home base" of California five to six times a year. In 1980, Keithley coined the term "hardcore" and the band soon released their landmark album Hardcore 81. The album became a hit, the hardcore movement took off, and D.O.A. pushed that expression into common vernacular.
Over the last four decades, D.O.A. have released 17 studio albums, sold over a million albums, and played 4,000 shows on five different continents. The band's albums, shows, and attitude have won over three generations of fans and influenced the likes of Green Day, Nirvana, Offspring, Henry Rollins, David Grohl and The Red Hot Chilli peppers, to name a few. Keithley has also written two books: I Shithead: A Life in Punk and TALK - ACTION = 0.
From day one, D.O.A. has helped organize and lead hundreds of benefit concerts and protests for good and just causes like environmental issues, women's rights, food bank benefits, and First Nations' rights. They have organized protests and stood against war, racism, weapons proliferation, and countless other causes.
Keithley has been called a cultural politician, trying to change the world from outside the system. He's currently running for Mayor of his home town of Burnaby, under the Green Party banner, attempting to change the system from inside. Keithley and the band were also ardent supporters of the Occupy Movement, realizing this was a step towards equality in our world. He is always looking for a way to push "grassroots democracy" and like his idol Pete Seeger, he and the band won't give up.
When the band takes their wild, unbridled show live show on the road, it's a must see, because it's a chance to see one of the last real punk rock bands that gets out there, kicks ass, and tells it like it is. It's a perpetual atmosphere of chaos, veering out of control, but somehow, at the last minute, D.O.A. manages to reign all of it back in. And in an indescribable way, you are not quite the same person afterwards.

Dolly Parton's "Imagination"

Pictured L-R: The Dollywood Company President Craig Ross, Dollywood Foundation President David Dotson, Dolly Parton, CTK Management’s Danny Nozell, Webster PR’s Kirt Webster, Dollywood Dir. Public Relations Pete Owens, Dolly Parton Productions President Ted Miller.

Imagine with Dolly Parton...

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which began as a small community outreach in Parton’s native Sevier County, Tennessee, has evolved to become the largest literacy program in the world. In December, the “little literacy program that could” marks another impressive milestone—one million books gifted to children around the world each month.

To celebrate the unprecedented success, Evey Johns, a two-year-old from Conway, Arkansas who just enrolled in the Imagination Library, has been randomly selected to receive a $30,000 college scholarship. The announcement was made by Parton during her Pure & Simple concert tour stop in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee on Nov. 15. Proceeds from the concert benefit the Imagination Library.

“I thought long and hard about the best way to honor our achievement of reaching a million children a month,” Parton said. “The Imagination Library is all about inspiring dreams, so what better way to pay tribute to this moment than by helping one special child pursue her college degree. I’m thrilled that today I can let the world know that precious little Evey Johns from Conway, Arkansas will receive a $30,000 scholarship for the college of her choice.”

The scholarship will be held in a special account and distributed to Johns when she enrolls in college. Over the next 16 years, the amount of scholarship should grow to nearly approximately $50,000. Johns is enrolled in the Imagination Library in Conway thanks to the local affiliate in her area, Arkansas Preschool Plus.

“The thought of our daughter Evey going to college has been just that—a thought,” explained Evey’s mother, Connie. “Now, due to the enormous kindness and generosity of the Dollywood Foundation, that thought has now become a reality. Our family now has the means to develop a solid plan for our daughter’s future education. Thank you all so much for this unbelievable opportunity for our daughter.”

In 2016, the Imagination Library and its local partners will gift nearly 11.5 million books to children from birth to age five in participating communities in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia. To date, the Imagination Library, which is administered through the Dollywood Foundation, has provided more than 85 million books to children around the world.

Arkansas Preschool Plus is just one of the many local affiliates the Dollywood Foundation works with to provide books to children. To provide the Imagination Library, a community must make the program accessible to all preschool children in their area, and the community pays for the books, promotes the program and registers the children. The Dollywood Foundation manages the delivery of books to children’s homes.

Arkansas Preschool Plus enrolls 960 children in Conway, Faulkner and Perry Counties. Currently, nearly 15,000 children are enrolled in Arkansas. The Imagination Library currently is working with elected officials, foundations and corporations in Arkansas in an effort to make the program available to all children from birth to age five in the state.

About Dolly Parton's Imagination Library:
Founded in 1995, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book gifting organization that has, to date, mailed more than 85 million books to children in Australia, Belize, Canada, United Kingdom and the United States. Each month, the program currently mails more than one million specially selected, high-quality, age-appropriate books to registered children from birth until they start Kindergarten in participating communities. Dolly envisioned creating a lifelong love of reading in children, preparing them for school and inspiring them to dream. Recent studies suggest participation in the Imagination Library is positively and significantly associated with higher measures of early language and math development. Penguin Random House is the exclusive publisher for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Because she can, can, can...

World-renowned singer/songwriter/entertainer Dolly Parton has a worldwide #1 album to celebrate this week. The superstar’s new release Pure & Simple debuts at #1 not only in the U.S., but, also on the national country charts in Canada, U.K. and Australia.

Dolly’s 43rd studio recording and the first release of her recently-announced joint venture between Dolly Records and Sony Music Nashville, achieves #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart with first-week sales of 20,000 units! This marks the first time Dolly has topped Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart in the 25-year history of SoundScan.

The new album which released August 19th on Dolly Records/RCA Nashville lands the #11 slot on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart with a first-week total consumption of 21,000. On Billboard’s Americana/Folk Albums chart, the disc debuts at #1. In the UK, Pure & Simple enters the all-genre album sales chart at #2, behind Frank Ocean’s Blonde.

Upon hearing the news, Dolly Parton, who co-produced and wrote every song on Pure & Simple, enthused, "Boy, it's a good day for me. I am a happy girl!" She continued, "It feels great to be #1 as it's been a long time and it feels so good to still be in the game after all this time."

Remarked Doug Morris, CEO, Sony Music Entertainment, “Congratulations, Dolly, for your stunning debut with Pure & Simple. You put your heart and soul in this album, and we join you in celebrating a long-overdue #1 on the country album chart.”

“I thought it was a magical time back in 1981, when I first started working with Dolly as we set up her Best Little Whorehouse album on RCA, right after her huge hit, ‘9 To 5,’” reflected Randy Goodman, Chairman & CEO, Sony Music Nashville. “I spent a week with her on the RCA jet visiting radio and retail all over the country.” Goodman continued, “But, to be reunited with Dolly and have a #1 debut is wonderful. Thank you, Doug Morris for bringing Dolly back to RCA.”

CTK Management CEO Danny Nozell said, "There is nobody more deserving of this tremendous success. Having worked with Dolly for the past 13 years, I have never met any person that works harder than her.” Nozell added, “She is a businesswoman that understands her brand and knows exactly what to do and when to do it, and once again, she proves it with a #1 album."

Last week, Dolly Parton made appearances on NBC’s Today and Tonight Show, among other TV shows.

Time For Kiefer Sutherland's Hole

A Hole Lotta Kiefer

Kiefer Sutherland's hole is coming!

Kiefer Sutherland will carry the momentum from his live shows to retailers August 19 with the upcoming release of his debut album Down In A Hole, available for pre-order now from Warner Music Nashville/Ironworks Music. A special edition vinyl LP will be available exclusively at Barnes & Noble August 12 (click here to pre-order).

Sutherland recently wrapped up a North American tour where he sold out venues across the U.S. and Canada. His soulful baritone vocals and guitar licks continue to captivate audiences with his second music video, “Can’t Stay Away,” which premiered exclusively on CMT’s Hot 20 Countdown (click here to watch).

“This record is the closest thing I’ve ever had to a journal or diary. All of these songs are pulled from my own personal experiences. As much as I have enjoyed the writing and recording process, I am experiencing great joy now being able to play these songs to a live audience, which was something I hadn’t counted on,” Sutherland said of Down In A Hole.

Earlier this year Sutherland gave fans a taste of his songwriting notebook when he released the pedal-steeled “Not Enough Whiskey.” Sutherland co-wrote every song on the upcoming 11-track album with producer Jude Cole.

“Kiefer shows off his rough-hewn vocals and a twangy, steel-guitar loving sound, along with a storyline that laments the problems whiskey just can’t fix.”
–Chris Parton, Country Weekly

“Its lyrics are simple and somber, with just the right dose of heartbreak thanks to his distinctive, gravelly baritone.”
–Amy McCarthy, TheBoot

Sutherland, an Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actor, is known for his starring role on the Fox series "24," starring roles in movies like ‘Stand By Me,’ ‘The Lost Boys,’ ‘Young Guns,’ Flatliners,’ and many more. Sutherland’s upcoming ABC series “Designated Survivor” premieres this fall on ABC.

I'll wait up for you, dear; Santa baby,So hurry down the chimney tonight." - Eartha Kitt

Looks like Justin Bieber just won the most rad celebrity selfie of the Christmas Season contest. Yeah, there's a contest, it's unofficial, but it's out there, it's called Social Media numbers.

Seems the Bieber hit Toronto's high end Yorkdale Shopping Center. When what to his wandering eyes did appear? But Yorkdale Fashion Santa."Yes" they have their own personal Santa in the form of a handsome model who has a snowy white beard named Paul Mason.

Daddy and Boy posed for a photograph that, well suffice it to say is pretty hot!
Yorkdale posted it on their Instagram account with the caption:

"It's true! Celebs shop at ! Can you it?! @justinbieber + 😍🎅 "

All joking aside, The Bieber is just one of many Canadian shoppers to pose with the hip hometown hero. Yorkdale Mall has pledged to donate $1 for every selfie with Fashion Santa using the hashtag #YorkdaleFashionSanta to charity.

Justin's stocking is going to be nice and stuffed this year!
