Hello "Cruel World"

Yesterday I got a surprise when a friend unloaded a VIP ticket on me to the first ever Cruel World Festival in Pasadena at The Rose Bowl. It was a music festival of  consisting of, let's just put it this way, bands I grew up with. Please refer to the flyer above for those said bands.

Did I enjoy myself? "Yes" this is one of the better music festivals I've been to. Not to mention it was my first time seeing Devo. Alright I admit it, I had a blast! Here are photos by yours truly from it...Cheers!

DEVO "Hardcore Live!" on DVD, Blu-ray, CD, and Vinyl

coming February 10th

"The Hardcore show for DEVO was like relocating a tail you misplaced a lifetime ago."
Mark Mothersbaugh

Are they not men? Nope, I guess they're Devo! You get one guess as to where I will be January 17th 2015...

LA screening event with Mark Mothersbaugh, Gerald V. Casale & Bob Mothersbaugh, Director Keirda Bahruth and Producer Rick Ballard

Saturday, January 17 - 7:30 PM
6712 Hollywood Boulevard
Hollywood, CA 90028 Map

Watch ROLLING STONE premiere "Uncontrollable Urge" HERE

DEVO was among the most thought-provoking bands to emerge in the aftermath of punk, but before hits like "Whip It," they worked in the basements and garages of Akron, Ohio to make raw, unfiltered music that the group called "Hardcore DEVO."

In the summer of 2014, DEVO did ten shows performing these seminal pre-fame songs, created between 1974 and 1977 and rarely played since then. Shot at the Fox Theater in Oakland, California, this exciting concert film captures these groundbreaking artists performing the songs that started it all, interwoven with interviews revealing the history of the band. In total, these 21 oddities serve as a tribute to departed, original DEVO bandmate, Robert "Bob 2" Casale.

A special screening event will be held on Saturday, January 17th at 7:30 PM at the Egyptian Theatre (6712 Hollywood Boulevard - Hollywood, CA 90028). A discussion with director Keirda Bahruth, coproducer Rick Ballard, and DEVO members Mark Mothersbaugh, Gerald V. Casale, and Bob Mothersbaugh will follow.

Surprise, Not! DEVO Goes Hardcore

Yes, They Are Men, It's D-E-V-O!

DEVO Partners With PledgeMusic For Release Of: "Hardcore DEVO Tour Live"

Is it any surprise that DEVO is still being innovative and breaking all the rules? Yeah I thought not.

"She sends out an aroma of undefined love
It drifts on down in a mist from above" - "Girl U Want" DEVO
DEVO has partnered with direct-to-fan platform PledgeMusic for their upcoming live album release. The American rock band, who broke onto the scene in the 1980's with a string of hits such as "Whip It," will be making a live album and DVD from their June 28th performance at the Fox Theater in Oakland, CA during their recent "Hardcore DEVO Tour.DEVO will be involving fans in the process through their PledgeMusic campaign.

During the tour, the band played seminal, experimental songs created before the band released any music on a label and rose to fame. The tour honors original band member and longtime DEVO guitarist/keyboardist Bob Casale who passed away earlier this year - a portion of the tour's proceeds will go to his family. The "Hardcore DEVO Tour" resurrected the early creative efforts that first brought the band together. DEVO Hardcore LIVE will document this once-in-a-lifetime experience and be released as a CD, DVD, vinyl and Blu-ray deluxe disc with bonus features.

Pre-orders of the CD/DVD will allow fans to engage with the band during the album making process, providing exclusive access to behind-the-scenes photos, videos, tour artifacts and more. Pledge your support at http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/DEVO

Nuff' Said
"We can't believe that we are working with DEVO on this amazing campaign!" said Benji Rogers, President and founder of PledgeMusic. "This project is truly about the music and the hardcore fans. By going beyond just the radio favorites this makes the whole thing an incredible journey for those super fans who have been following the group since their early days."

Gerald V. Casale of DEVO said, "I'm not noted for being optimistic but the Hardcore DEVO Live horn 'o' plenty (DVD, Blu-Ray, CD, Vinyl LP) has me genuinely high hopin' as we mix and edit a truly DEVOlved show. One for the ages!"

PledgeMusic is the world's leading online, direct-to-fan music community, offering artists a unique way to engage their fans in the music making experience whilst interacting with PledgeMusic's global community of music fans.

D-E-V-O

We Are Men, D-E-V-O
DEVO The Men Who Make The Music / Butch Devo & The Sundance Gig

available on DVD and Digital Formats on August 12

Classic DEVO live in 1978-79, philosophy, and more!

Are we not men? Yeah Devo was one of my favorite New Wave 80's groups, from the wonderfully subversive S&M ditty "Whip It" to the perverted voyeurism song about masturbation "Peek-A-Boo" here for your flashback pleasure is more DEVO, no one can ever get enough of that noise!

The Men Who Make the Music combines concert footage from DEVO's 1978 tour with music videos and interstitials featuring a vague story about DEVO's rocky relationship with "Big Entertainment."

As for the bonus program, Butch Devo and the Sundance Gig, Jerry Casale says, "In January of '96, we closed Sundance Film Festival. We wore 20s style prison suits and dished out classic DEVO songs to an unsuspecting audience of Hollywood elite."

Take a look at my favorite Devo song Peek-A-Boo...

                                                           Peek-A-Boo: I Can See You

"So put your hands on your face
And cover up your eyes
Don't look until I signal"... Peek-A-Boo, Devo

Neil Patrick Harris Has An "Angry Inch"

Watch Out Bitches, Neil Patrick Harris Is On The Loose!
Apparently Neil Patrick Harris, the immensely likable performer is a bit of a
Devo (Male term for Diva for those not in the loop) - Oh and by the way, kidding!

Neil Patrick Harris' recent Broadway performance of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" is causing a bit of a stir.
After a female admirer yelled out "I love you Neil!," during the show Saturday, Harris shot back, "I'm doing something up here, motherf—cker!"
The former "How I Met Your Mother" star isn't denying that this happened, but he is saying the supposed curse out was taken out of context.
The musical—about a transgender German rocker—is highly improvisational, embracing audience interaction."
It's great that an enthusiastic fan was there in the audience for Mr. Harris to take her comment and make it a part of the show. I bet she loved it!

NPH made the following statement to Out Magazine:

"Hedwig is bringing up a lot of super insecure things within me. I never thought drag was intoxicating, I've never had a fun drunken Halloween in drag, never been in heels, really. I've lived my whole life being attracted by masculinity—it's why I like guys. I'm not a super effete person, and I have to turn into that, and in doing so it brings up a lot of homophobic insecurities within myself."

Neil you are preaching to this choir I hear ya!
Currently in previews "Hedwig" opens April 22nd!
