An Ode To Helena Bonham Carter

Helena Bonham Carter
For those of you who think Ms. Helena Bonham Carter only has a career because of her partner Tim Burton, that just proves how Mother F#cking young you are!

She has been around for a while and has had a quite successful acting career long before that.

I first remember seeing the amazingly talented Helena in the great film "A Room With A View" if you don't know it, check it, with my friend Jennifer DiMartino of the "Americana With Twisted Roots" band, The Drews, she is a fellow Helena fan, FYI.

Not to mention the lovely film "Howard's End" and one of my all time favorites "Fight
Club."

Helena's career has been a unique one, she has always marched to the beat of her own drummer and ALWAYS let her freak flag fly!

Here is what she has to say about why she does not have a stylist:
"I've had a stylist once or twice, but it doesn't really work out because basically, I don't like being told what to wear. I don't like being told what to do, so there's no point. A lot of people suggest that I should."
Keep on bucking the trends and keep being you Helena, we will always love ya!

XOXO

R.I.P: Annette Funicello "Jamaica Ska"

"Do You Know How To Jamaica Ska"?

This quite urgent question was posed by Annette Funicello in the 80's revamp of her 1960's Beach Party Movies with Frankie Avalon, "Back to the Beach".

While too young for the originals, I was not too young for their repeated showings on weekend TV, the Beach Party Movies were something both my parents enjoyed and liked watching together.

Thus I was Beach Party Movie adjacent. I also was exposed to Ms. Funicello via old "Mickey Mouse Club" reruns, she was truly the most beautiful Mouseketeer and the one who, uh filled out quite nicely.

However my very personal memory of Annette will always remain "Back to the Beach" - My college friend Jenny DiMartino of the groovy band The Drews and myself decided to head out and see it one afternoon on a lark.

Settling into the theatre we hoped for the best. What a wonderful tongue in cheek treat we got, with a very game and fun loving Annette and her Co-Star Frankie.

My favorite musical Annette moment will always be her deadpan delivery of the line: "Do you girls know how to Jamaica Ska"? Like it was the most important thing anyone on earth could know, or say...

Now it's time to say goodbye....thanks for the memories my lovely Annette....xoxo

15 Minutes: Honey Boo Boo

One day while I was having a conversation with my friend Jennifer DiMartino one half of the band "The Drews" and the topic turned to "Reality TV" she said she hated to admit she was a fan of Honey Boo Boo.

Cut to me, WTF is a Honey Boo Boo?! As she proceeded to explain all that is Boo Boo - the imp was in my consciousness, and all of the sudden it became Boo Boo's world, I just lived in it.

Andy Warhol, who must have been psychic stated it best: "In the future, everybody will be world famous for 15 minutes"....Yeah Andy knew his stuff and apparently saw the Internet coming.,

That's what writer/artist and fame whore Michael Troy captures in his dead on comic "15 Minutes: Honey Boo Boo".

It portrays the Boo Boo and her family the way they were meant to be immortalized, as a comic book.
Michael Troy

Troy employs his astute sense of humor and considerable artistic skills with great aplomb.

Yep, when all is said and done Andy Warhol, Honey Boo Boo will be remembered as she should be, a cartoon.

So, pick yourself up a copy of this sure to be collector's item.

As Porky Pig would say "That's all folks"...!

The Horror: Sing-A-Long With The Drews

Described as "Americana singer/songwriters with twisted roots", The Drews are the lean and mean husband and wife music machine Jennifer and Andrew DiMartino  and were once voted Seattle's number one band...Boo!

As it happens this duo has managed to put one great macabre song on each of their CD's that I recommend to others, listen to and use for my Halloween fun!

Their first CD "Strategically Interrupted Silence" features "Lloyd's Eyes" which chronicles the demented activity of an optometrist who steals his patients eyes and collects them as trophies. Rumor has it he and Buffalo Bill from "Silence of the Lambs" do lunch once month and talk shop.

"Lloyd's Eyes" is musically insane and perfect fun for Halloween or anytime, you want to get all "eye for an eye" on someone's butt!

Next up "Necroditty" from their great CD "Sins of Others" produced by Conrad Uno.

Time to break the title down, Yo! Necro=Dead and if you substitute the word "diddle" for "ditty" the song title would basically translate into "Diddle The Dead".

If you need more of a song explanation than this consult a mortician, because I'm not getting into it any further with you guys, so there!
