Michael's Musings

"Just Let Go"
Michael Shinafelt

Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives,” said the voice of Macdonald Carey, welcoming viewers to the “Days of Our Lives” soap opera -

While life is not a soap opera, time is something I've been thinking a lot about of late. Hence my latest ink as you can see in the self portrait above: "Just Let Go." I love how this phrase has many interpretations and it perfectly sums up where I'm at in life presently. Time is too fleeting not to: "Just Let Go" ya know???

Vive la France! It's Bastille Day Minions! The more you know...

This season on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills: WTF Kyle?!?!

Every time I watch an Law & Order: SVU marathon and I see Amanda Rollins no good sister I think: Just Die!

Come together. Right now. Over me. Think about it, but not too much.

Did you ever think that perhaps corn is merely a banana ribbed for her pleasure???

Fascism is much worse than inflation

Look less for the "win" look more for the solution

With all the galaxies that exist do you truly think God is worrying about someone being gay?!?!

Woman Crush of the Week - Zendaya who made Emmy history this week for her three nominations for Euphoria. I F#cking love her!!!

People are surprised they are raging against the machine?

Does anyone feel the new pics of the universe make them look fat? Asking for a friend.

Sometimes I wished I could whip out the golden lasso of truth and use it on people

Hump Day & Chill

Ms. Weisz I Presume..
Rachel Weisz

While surfing the ole WWW this stunning image of Rachel Weisz came across my Twitter feed and it reminded me of the time I saw her at a movie premiere in Hollywood and how even more stunning she is IRL.

Thus we are going to Hump Day & Chill with things that are Rachel today.

My favorite Rachel Weisz role? Evelyn Ann Thompson in the 2003 Neil LaBute film The Shape Of Things. If you haven't seen it, the less said about this indie going in the better. Let's put it this way Weisz is perfectly cast in a "you didn't see it coming" type of role opposite the ageless and sexy Paul Rudd.

She also happens to be married to one of the hunkiest men alive Daniel Craig aka Bond, James Bond.

I hereby decree today that we Hump Day & Chill to all that is Rachel Weisz, because I can...

What's your favorite Rachel Weisz role???

Eyes Of A Different Color

Look Into Her Eyes
Elizabeth Berkley

You've more than likely heard the term "horse of a different color" well today "eyes of a different color" is the new one, because guess what Minions?! It's National Different Colored Eyes Day...

To commemorate the day, straight outta Showgirls we have Elizabeth Berkley in the house!

"Yes" Elizabeth has eyes of a different color as you can clearly see in the image above. One being half brown and half green and the other being fully green.

While I know Elizabeth is currently starring in a reboot of Saved By The Bell on Peacock, she will always be Nomi Malone the intrepid heroine of Showgirls to this blogger.

Hey, I love Jessie Spano as much as the next Gen Xer, but come on Showgirls is classic cinema on many levels.

So raise your glasses (entendre intended) and celebrate the unique eyes of others while gazing upon them with envy.

Cheers!

Stepping Out With Cardi B

I See London...
Cardi B

Here is Cardi B in London looking quite chic I might add, and I just did. Confession time...when Cardi first hit the scene I was dismissive at first. Honestly I tend to be that way with rappers of all genders in general. While rap has it's place, it is not my thing for the most part.

Then something happened, I started to read things that guided me past the music and to the woman herself, who is quite funny and just plain down and interesting.

Of course she absolutely had me at W.A.P. one of the best female empowerment songs ever, not to mention clever, cheeky and just plain fun!

Oh, and let's not forget her foray into the Gay Pride Parade where she hung out with her LGBTQ fans after.

Thus I wanna step out with Cardi B sometime, you know hit the town with her. Or perhaps have an at home hang with her. I'm sure she would be dope company either way and then some...

Mic Drop!!!

80's TV Ladies

80s TV Ladies, a new pop culture and social history podcast looking back at female-driven television shows from the 1980s (with some nods to the 1970s and 1990s), premieres July 20, 2022. The series is produced by 134 West and will be hosted by Susan Lambert Hatem and Sharon Johnson who will provide listeners with behind-the-scenes insight offered up by special guests from those shows. The podcast will be available on all major platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, etc., with new episodes dropping every two weeks.

80s TV Ladies is tailored for lovers of pop culture, fans of the 1980s, aficionados of television, and followers of feminist and social history. Although the series is designed to be light-hearted pop-culture entertainment, and provide listeners with lots of retro love and laughter, it also seeks to seriously explore the role gender played in front of and behind the cameras in '80s programming. The show reckons with the conflicting messages these programs were sending to women, as well as men, throughout the decade and, thanks to syndication and now streaming platforms, for many years to come.

Film Buff Friday: Flatliners

"An original, intelligent thriller, well-directed by Joel Schumacher"

     —Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

SOME LINES SHOULDN'T BE CROSSED. Known for his impressively eclectic filmography and for helping to launch the careers of several young Hollywood stars of the 80s and 90s, Joel Schumacher (The Lost Boys, St. Elmo's Fire) tackles the existential question that, at one time or another, haunts us all: what awaits us after we die? At the University Hospital School of Medicine, five ambitious students subject themselves to a daring experiment: to temporarily induce their own deaths, hoping to glimpse the afterlife before being brought back to life. But as competition within the group intensifies and their visions of the world beyond increasingly bleed into their waking lives, they're about to learn that the greatest threat comes not from the spirit world but from the long-suppressed secrets of their own pasts... Stylishly photographed by Jan de Bont (Basic Instinct) and featuring a cast of Hollywood's hottest talent - including Kiefer Sutherland (Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me), Julia Roberts (Secret in their Eyes) and Kevin Bacon (Wild Things) - Flatliners is the ultimate life-and-death thrill ride.
