While I know Halloween is over, I am in mourning for it at present. "Yes" I am missing the spirit of the season, not to mention the horror movie marathons that were happening on a constant basis. So with one last gasp I wanted to trot out one of my favorite celebrity costumes this year. Behold Gig Hadid in a flawlessly executed "The Mask" costume. You remember "The Mask" don't you? In case you don't it was a 1994 action comedy film, based on a series of comic books published by Dark Horse Comics. Starring Jim Carrey and a then unknown Cameron Diaz. They played it once when I was on Jury Duty for us while we were waiting in the holding area. Not a bad movie, not a great one, but it was better than actually having to serve on a Jury. Kudos to Ms. Hadid! She's putting some of the Funday into Sunday, indeed... Gigi on IG - https://www.instagram.com/gigihadid/?hl=en
Prom Night: Original 1980 Motion Picture Soundtrack
by Paul Zaza & Carl Zittrer
World premiere of the original score and disco songs from the
1980 cult slasher film, featuring unreleased music
To be released on May 10th
Want to hear something really scary?
Perseverance Records presents the long awaited official release of the 1980 cult classic Prom Night Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Perseverance worked closely with Carl Zittrer and Paul Zaza to locate and unearth the original masters and all music recorded for the film including unreleased disco songs and score not used in the final production, never heard before anywhere.
This marks the first official and complete CD release of the Prom Night soundtrack. While the songs themselves have made appearances on a notorious Japanese LP and eventual bootleg recordings sourced from it, there was no official release of the songs - partially because the movie was made in the waning days of the disco fever.
This soundtrack features four different aspects of the music. First it opens with a re-creation of the score as it appears in the film - or as close to it as it could be assembled from the separate elements. Next is the score that wasn't used in the picture. Then come the disco songs in approximate order - but omitting the Blue Bazaar songs that were not featured in the movie and were used only as filler for the bootleg Japanese LP. The last portion of the album is dedicated to the songs that don't appear in the picture yet are as intrinsic to the sound of Prom Night as the songs that made it.
"I remember seeing Prom Night during its release in 1980, when disco was still the craze. I was determined to obtain a copy of the soundtrack and to play the theme song at my senior prom only to find that it was never released. I spent years looking at the audiophile catalog at Tower Records hoping to find a release date but no luck. Now, after almost 40 years, my dream has now become a reality! Fans alike are now able to enjoy the soundtrack!" - Silvio Barretta, Producer
Prom Night is a 1980 cult classic horror thriller directed by Paul Lynch (RoboCop, Xena: Warrior Princess, Poltergeist: The Legacy, Star Trek: The Next Generation) and stars Jamie Lee Curtis as Kim Hammond and Leslie Nielsen as Mr. Hammond. The movie focuses on four middle school children, Kelly Lynch, Jude Cunningham, Wendy Richards, and Nick McBride who hide the truth of what happened six years ago to ten-year-old Robin Hammond the day her body was found near and abandoned convent. They swore never to tell anyone of how they taunted Robin, backing her into a corner, frightened, when falling to her death while standing on a window ledge. But on that day, six years ago, someone else was there, watching, and now seeks revenge on prom night!
Horror royalty and Hammer alumni Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee reunite for this tale of mad monks, primitive humanoids and bloodthirsty zombies set aboard a train bound for Moscow - all aboard the Horror Express! Renowned anthropologist Saxton (Lee) boards the Trans-Siberian Express with a crate containing the frozen remains of a primitive humanoid which, he believes, may prove to be the missing link in human evolution. But all hell breaks loose when the creature thaws out, turning out to be not quite as dead as once thought! Directed by Spanish filmmaker Eugenio Martin, Horror Express remains one for the most thrilling (and, quite literally!) chilling horror efforts of the early 1970s.

Usually the term "Seeing Red" is reserved to describe the emotion of anger. Well T.G.I.F! I am turning the phrase on it's ass today. That's correct peeps today the phrase for the fired up shall refer to one Ms. Jessica Chastain.
First of all there is nothing like a dame, especially one with fiery red hair. Then pair that with a complimentary red dress and Booyah!
Chastain who is currently portraying the adult version of Beverly Marsh in IT: Chapter 2, looks absolutely stunning in both hues of red.
For the record I thought IT should have had a title change and been called shIT. "Yes" I found the movie tedious and not scary at all. It was more like a coming of age story than a horror film. Which is fine if that's what I was expecting when I went to see it, but I was expecting a grade "A" horror flick. You know, what the studio advertised.
Thus this audience member was left cold by IT. Fingers crossed the sequel does better in the scare department.
"If they can't hear you, they can't hunt you" - is the tagline for the release of this weeks addition to the altar of horror, A Quiet Place in theaters, well, now. You want to know what's the story morning gory? Well just sit right back and you'll hear a tale... "In the modern horror thriller A QUIET PLACE, a family of four must navigate their lives in silence after mysterious creatures that hunt by sound threaten their survival." and so it goes. The film has a whopping 97% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, so rare for something of the scare genre.Which makes it a must see for this horror fan. Perhaps this weekend, or...? It also stars sexy real life couple Emily Blunt and John Krasinski who also Directed and Co-Wrote. I'm shivering with antici...pation! But for now, let's enjoy the silence. Lycan marks the feature debut of Bev Land. The horror / thriller based on the popular urban legend of the "Talbot County Werewolf". Parade Deck Films will handle the movie's theatrical release, followed by disc, digital and VOD platforms from MVD Entertainment.
Synopsis: When six college kids in a sleepy Southern town are assigned a group history project, one of them sets in motion a horrific fate when he proposes they head into the Georgia backwoods to uncover the truth about the hundred year old urban legend of Emily Burt, the "Talbot County Werewolf".
Lycan stars Dania Ramirez ("Devious Maids" X-Men: The Last Stand, American Reunion, Premium Rush), who will be starring this Fall on ABC's hit show "Once Upon a Time" as princess "Cinderella." The film boasts a strong ensemble cast that includes three-time Emmy Award nominee Gail O'Grady ("NYPD Blue", "Revenge", Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo), Parker Croft ("Little Big Lies", "Lewis and Clark"), Vanessa Angel (Kingpin, Hall Pass, "Weird Science"), Rebekah Graf (Entourage), Kalia Prescot (The Hunger Games), Jake Lockett (Transpecos), Alina Puscau (X/Y, Conan The Barbarian) and Craig Tate (12 Years a Slave, USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage).
Making his directorial debut with Lycan, Bev Land talks about his experience in bringing his vision to life with his co-producer and star (and wife), Dania Ramirez. "I knew that the journey of making this film independently would be a challenge filled with a tremendous amount of blood, sweat and tears (pun intended) and I know we have something special that genre fans are going to appreciate. Fortunately for me I was lucky enough to be able to take this journey with Dania, who I not only respect and adore as an artist, but someone I also love as a human being."
Lycan producer and star Dania Ramirez agrees...
"I am a firm believer that with hard work and dedication anything is possible. I have been in front of the camera for quite some time and I feel blessed to have been able to help lead the team that made this movie possible. When I met my talented husband, I said to him "I want to produce films"and Bev looked at me and said "Then let's do it together... I will write you a leading character with the dimension and depth that you are capable of playing but haven't had the opportunity and YOU will produce it for me!" The journey of independent film making doesn't allow much room for star like treatment and producing one proved to be more challenging than I could've ever imagined. Being the producer and star meant making every phone call and scheduling every shooting day also had to correspond with taking the necessary time to put on the clothes of my character and live in her before hearing the word "Action". I also want to add that Latin female leading roles are rare in this industry and this one I think is one of a kind. The sense of accomplishment I feel today having not only brought our baby "Lycan" into this world but now having Eric D. Wilkinson at MVD Entertainment and Michael Ingram at Parade Deck Films distribute the film is overwhelming."
Having followed the film's production and progress on the internet and social media, MVD Entertainment's Director of Acquisitions Eric D. Wilkinson reached out to Peter Van Steemburg at ICM Partners for an introduction to the filmmakers...
"I'm a huge fan of the horror genre and MVD Entertainment has been a long time supporter and champion of independent films. Peter gave me the opportunity to screen Lycan and I just loved it. I won't give away any spoilers but I will say that Lycan messes with your expectations throughout with an ending that you will not see coming!" In regards to getting Lycan into theaters, Wilkinson explains, "MVD has built a great partnership with Parade Deck Films. I was happy to share this movie with them because CEO Michael Ingram has done a great job in exposing some of these smaller movies theatrically, giving independent filmmakers a chance for their work to be seen by audience on the big screen, as they intended, and at the same time, help build awareness for the film after it's theatrical run for the VOD, digital and physical windows for the months following."
Lycan will open theatrically in select cities on August 4th, followed by disc, digital and VOD platforms from MVD Entertainment on September 26th. Pre-order the DVD now at MVDshop.comor at Amazon.
In the 1980's there was an onslaught of slasher films thanks to the success of my favorite horror movie of all time, John Carpenter's Halloween. Most of them were pedestrian, but there were a few that were a cut above the rest. Ha ha ha ha get it? I'm sure you did, at least once, perhaps twice. Well Happy Birthday To Me falls into the "cut above the rest cate"gory" - puns are fun BTW! The combination of Melissa Sue Anderson laying to rest her role as Mary Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie, J. Lee Thompson of Cape Fear (the original) fame directing and the promise of six of the most bizarre murders you will ever see, really nailed it, literally. Happy Birthday To Me is one of my favorites of all time and makes today's bullshitPG-13 horror movie trend look, well, like crap. Enjoy this montage of images from it, courtesy of moi. Only 13 days until Halloween!
Leaving one of the most indelible impressions of any horror film in history Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho is a classic that has endured through the generations. It has spawned three sequels, one remake and a prequel TV series, Bates Motel which is coming up on it's fifth and final season. Nothing had ever been seen on the silver screen before like Janet Leigh's shower scene death as Marion Crane. Not only was it shocking in it's brutality it was the first time a protagonist had been killed off in the first thirty minutes of a movie. So for a Halloween treat I have decided to post a montage of images from one of my favorite horror movie deaths of all time, the "shower scene" from Psycho for you to savor. T.G.I.F!
Once upon a time there was a little ghoul named Francesca...

Since I participated in Throwback Thursday yesterday, because, well it was Thursday, duh, I thought I would take the opportunity to engage in Flashback Friday, ya know, since it's Friday the 13th after all.
Think back to the year 1980 when the original Friday the 13th movie was released at the height of the slasher film craze. At what point was that in your life? Me? I was a Freshman in High School, be nice now. I was too young to get in to see it solo and no one would take me. So I had to wait for home video. What I do remember was it upped the ante in terms of graphic killings on screen. The story of doomed counselors at the now legendary Camp Crystal Lake aka Camp Blood had critics recoiling and audiences shrieking! Everyone in school who had been able to see it was a buzz about it describing the bloody deaths of the camp staff with a perverse glee. When I finally got around to seeing it, the horror movie that raised the bar had been surpassed by others post it. The original Friday the 13th is now considered a horror classic because of it's influence on the genre. Something I know at the time was never contemplated of happening. It remains one of my favorites of a specific place and time in cinema, because, in case you haven't guessed it "Yes"I love a good scare...Boo! Happy Friday the 13th! Check out the trailer for the original Friday the 13th after the jump!
