Michael's Musings

TBT: Blonde Jock
Michael Shinafelt
Today I am in a Throwback Thursday state of mind, hence the photo of myself I chose to use. "Yes" I was once young bleached blonde Guy full of ambition and a few other things 😈 Honestly I am happier and like myself more now than I did then. The old adage is true "Youth is Wasted on the Young" - Unless your Miley Cyrus, then that's a whole other story...

Well It Chapter Two is number one at the BO, no surprise there. Friends whose opinions I trust have not liked it. I honestly found the first one tedious and not scary in the least, I will be sitting this one out. I'll wait till it hits cable thus having the option to switch channels it I so choose 🎈

I had such a challenging week, a snappers falling out eyeball is a welcome change

Smells Like Pumpkin Spice Spirit...Boo!

If you have an unusual, obscure name, don't get arrogantly correct people when they pronounce it wrong. Your parents F#cked you over, deal with it!

Attention, you know I just found what your looking for

This coming Wednesday September 18th American Horror Story: 1984 premieres. Honestly I love that they are taking on 80's slasher movies. Anything would be better than last season.

In the spirit of Throwback Thursday, I remember the time I met the late, great David Bowie. "Yes" I nearly wet myself.

Now that Marie Osmond is on The Talk I really need to watch it at least once

Michael, as in me, myself and I says: Relax (see Frankie isn't the only one who can do it, just sayin')

TBT: "Bend & Snap"

Bend & Snap
Reese Witherspoon

Just when you couldn't feel any older than you do, Reese Witherspoon is here to remind you, you are. Yeah, thanks a lot, Reese!

Reese's star vehicle Legally Blonde is now fifteen years old, that's like over one hundred in dog years. She took to her Instagram and Snap Chat to remind everyone of that by recreating costumes and scenes from the movie. She also reminded us of Elle Woods flirtatious "Bend & Snap" move she taught the lovelorn Jennifer Coolidge in the film.

I Want To Go To Harvard
Reese Witherspoon
While completely formulaic, LB is one of the funniest comedy's I have ever seen thanks in no small part to Witherspoon's spot on performance. Not to mention a juicy little cameo by Raquel Welch, just to let you know how truly old I am...

Enjoy the photos of Reese paying homage to the film that made her a star.

Happy Throwback Thursday

TBT: Rock Isn't Dead & Neither Is Lynyrd Skynyrd

We Ride Unicorns
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Photo: Clay Patrick McBride
Okay, do I seriously need to provide an explanation as to why Lynyrd Skynyrd is the subject of a Throwback Thursday piece? I thought not, keep calm and throwback like good little buckaroos!

On July 17, the evening prior to the official kick-off of the Republican National Convention, Cleveland - The Rock and Roll Capital of the World - will see a party unlike any they have ever seen as Rock and Roll Hall of Fame icons Lynyrd Skynyrd will provide entertainment for the “Welcome To Ohio Late Night” party held at The Auto Lot, a pop-up venue in downtown Cleveland and hosted by Ohio Speaker of the House Cliff Rosenberger.

Local Ohio foods will be on hand, as well as local beer presented by the Ohio Craft Brewers Association in partnership with Thirsty Dog Brewing Company. The event is produced by Blue Star Productions, LLC in conjunction with the Green Beret Foundation, The Folded Flag Foundation, The Guardians of Heroes Foundation, OH Fallen Heroes, and SRT-K9 Unit, with those military charities receiving proceeds from the event.

Originally formed as My Backyard in 1964 by Ronnie Van Zant, Bob Burns, Allen Collins, Gary Rossington, and Larry Junstrom, the band changed its’ moniker to the iconic name in the early 1970s, and became a fan favorite in the Jacksonville, FL area. They inked a deal with Sounds of the South Records in 1972, and released their self-titled disc the following year. Selling over two million units since its’ release, the album featured “Free Bird,” which became one of the most important singles of the Southern Rock era. Future hits included “Sweet Home Alabama” and “What’s Your Name.”

The band’s story took a tragic turn in October 1977 when a plane crash took the lives of Van Zant, Steve Gaines, backup singer Cassie Gaines, and several of their road crew. The band took a decade-long hiatus before reuniting for a tour and live album, Southern by the Grace of God. Since then, the band has toured and recorded extensively, with their most recent release being Last Of A Dyin’ Breed. The band’s current line-up includes original member Rossington, Johnny Van Zant, Rickey Medlocke, Mark “Sparky” Matejka, Michael Cartellone, Johnny Colt, Peter Keys, Dale Krantz Rossington and Carol Chase. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.

FBF: Welcome To Camp Crystal Lake...

"Kill her, Mommy! Kill her! Don't let her get away, Mommy! Don't let her live!"
- Pamela Voorhees

Since I participated in Throwback Thursday yesterday, because, well it was Thursday, duh, I thought I would take the opportunity to engage in Flashback Friday, ya know, since it's Friday the 13th after all.

Think back to the year 1980 when the original Friday the 13th movie was released at the height of the slasher film craze. At what point was that in your life? Me? I was a Freshman in High School, be nice now.

I was too young to get in to see it solo and no one would take me. So I had to wait for home video. What I do remember was it upped the ante in terms of graphic killings on screen.

The story of  doomed counselors at the now legendary Camp Crystal Lake aka Camp Blood had critics recoiling and audiences shrieking!

Everyone in school who had been able to see it was a buzz about it describing the bloody deaths of the camp staff with a perverse glee.

When I finally got around to seeing it, the horror movie that raised the bar had been surpassed by others post it.

The original Friday the 13th is now considered a horror classic because of it's influence on the genre. Something I know at the time was never contemplated of happening.

It remains one of my favorites of a specific place and time in cinema, because, in case you haven't guessed it "Yes"I love a good scare...Boo! Happy Friday the 13th!

Check out the trailer for the original Friday the 13th after the jump!

Frock Off! Dragstrip 66

There's a "Frokumentary" brewing about the legendary club Dragstrip 66. Why they passed up a chance to call it Dragstrip 69 is beyond my comprehension.

Wanna party? There's a fundraiser tomorrow night at Akbar in Silverlake, CA to kick it all off and, to celebrate the crowdfunding page. As you know crowdfunding is all the rage these days.

So rather than my prattling on, hit the links below.

Happy Throwback Thursday, indeed!

Throwback Thursday: Tanya Tucker On Tour

Tanya Tucker Is Awesome! Yeah, You Heard Me.

TANYA TUCKER LAUNCHES INITIAL TOUR DATES FOR 2015

Country Star Sets Performances for First Time in 3 Years;
Kicks off Tour with two SOLD-OUT shows

Legend and amazing vocalist, Tanya Tucker is back on tour! Love this woman, and she's Sold Out, shows that is! Happy Throwback Thursday!

Tanya Tucker – the sultry voiced female vocalist behind such hits as “Strong Enough To Bend” and “I’ll Come Back As Another Woman” – is back. After a lengthy hiatus from the road, the legendary songstress returned to the road this past weekend with two sold-out shows in Illinois and Indiana. And, she’s only beginning.

Tucker has a slate of shows lined up for the spring and summer months with dates continuing to be added to the schedule. Having recently signed with APA, Tucker returns to performing armed with a virtual arsenal of some of the biggest classics in Country music, such as “The Jamestown Ferry,” “Soon,” and “Texas (When I Die).” Of course, no Tucker performance would be complete without “Delta Dawn,” the Alex Harvey-written classic that launched her career into the stratosphere in 1972 – when she was only thirteen. In between the hits, Tucker will share many stories and anecdotes of her iconic career.

Though she has been away from the stage for a while to spend time with her children, she says she’s excited to be back in the spotlight.  “I am so excited about the upcoming tour,” says Tanya Tucker.  “Being in front of a live crowd is something that I feed off of. From the reception I felt from the first two dates, I think it’s definitely going to be a lot of fun returning to performing. I’ve missed the fans a lot.”

Steve Lassiter, SVP/Partner and Head of Concerts at APA Nashville, says Tanya Tucker and live performing are two things that simply go together. “There is something electric about a Tanya Tucker performance. She’s one of the most legendary recording artists of all time. She’s not just singing the music. She’s lived these songs. Some sad. Some happy. But all throughout the show, she sings and performs as only Tanya Tucker can. Returning to the road is something we all are very excited about.”

TBT - Pretty Little Liars "Taking This One To The Grave"

Watch Your Back Mona! Ooooops! Too Late!
Let's revisit the Pretty Little Liars episode that was the catalyst for sending all of the girls to the pokey this past week. Look it's Mona Vanderwaal moments before she is murdered, fresh as a daisy and ripe for the picking off.

So my weekly check in with my niece Shauna Waters yielded nothing but confusion. I mean seriously everyone is a suspect at this point the way things are being portrayed. Heck I even had suspicions about Aria's Mom Ella this past week.

The most obvious suspect at this point is Andrew Campbell, but as we know in the land of "The Liars" nothing is that obvious, or perhaps it is...

According to Marlene King the "Big A" is someone who has been around since the first episode and it is someone we care about.

So I enlisted the sleuthing powers of my other niece Lindley Waters who recently viewed said episode and here is what she had to say:

"I have no clue. The problem with the first season is that they are still suspicious of Ian, who dies and,Toby and Jenna. So I dunno. I'm hoping it isn't one of the liars."

There you have it, Shauna, Lindley and Myself are stumped. So the three of us have decided to quit trying to figure it out - we can't wait until this Tuesday!

TBT: Pretty Little Liars "A is for Answers"

Everybody Run, Hanna Marin Has A Gun!
With only one more episode to go until the Big "A" reveal it's time for another Throwback Thursday Pretty Little Liars post.

This still is from Season 4 Episode 24 bearing the title "A is for Answers."

I'm really not sure if anything got answered in this one, but I have always wondered why Hanna never shot "A" and how she learned to brandish a gun like that.

Yes, I find Hanna's behavior, especially of late highly suspicious. She has gotten real tough and edgy behind bars and does not seem all that phased by any of it.

My niece Shauna Waters agrees. She doesn't want the big "A" to turn out to be Hanna because she loves the character so much. Me I personally would love it to be her, it would take the show to a whole new level of entertaining.

What's that you say? Oh, yeah Hanna's in jail and they keep showing a shadowy figure at the end of each episode doing sinister things. Well they did introduce a character who goes by the name of Varjack, who is not necessarily "A," perhaps it is them we see, hmmmmmmmm?

Just a thought.

Shauna and myself are probably wrong about Hanna, but honestly isn't her behavior getting less flighty and more calculated? Just sayin'.

TBT - Pretty Little Liars: The Dark Ride

Liars Unite! Spencer, Hanna, Aria & Emily
This one goes out specifically to my fellow Pretty Little Liars fan and niece Ms. Shauna Waters.
Nothing said Halloween quite like the PLL episode The Dark Ride, season 3 episode 13. All the girls were on a train for a celebration of all that is spooky and creepy. Well you of course know who shows up to seal that deal, "A!"

Since Hanna Marin is my niece Shauna's favorite character on the show, and she was on board the terror train as Marilyn Monroe, another of her faves - this Throwback Thursday is dedicated to you grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrl!

With the big "A" reveal merely two episodes away, I have had my theories as to who that is, and one of them has been Hanna. But you never know what's happening with this roller coaster of a show anything is possible.

Shauna has yet to see this weeks PLL, you know when Hanna went to jail? We text every week about each episode, I wonder what her reaction will be to that? Hey, Shauna hurry up and watch!

TBT: "Pretty Little Liars" Pants On Fire!

Like, Duh!
I have decided to honor Throwback Thursday on this blog starting, like, today...

My first TBT post is an image from one of my favorite TV shows Pretty Little Liars season deux episode six.

My niece Shauna Waters and I are obsessed with it. Our thing? We text each other weekly about it and give our theories on who the big "A" is.

That being stated even if it does not turn out to be Ally, she is still not a very nice person. Check out the posted image.

What keeps this show amazing to moi? Keeping it real. Even though a lot of the situations are crazy and out there, they are balanced with a nice blend of real life situations and the characters respond to all the twists and turns as real people would.

Pure entertainment should be believable even when the situation is not.

Hats off to all the great actors, writers & producers on this show!

Me and Shauna will keep obsessing until the very end, but please let us know who the big "A" is ASAP!

PS - I also love the many Alfred Hitchcock references.
