Happy Mother's Day!

With the recent passing of my Mom, I celebrated Mother's Day by watching The Mother starring Jennifer Lopez on Netflix. Yeah, it wasn't too coincidentally released this past Friday just in time for today.

The Mother was fun, escapist fare, with a great performance by Lopez. It's akin to the old Hollywood star vehicles back in the day.

Happy Mother's Day to all you Moms out there. If your Mom is not with you remember the good times today. Celebrate those memories not the sadness.

Happy Mother's Day

Serial Mom
Kathleen Turner

Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms out there! I thought I'd get cheeky today by celebrating with one of my Top 3 favorite John Waters films Serial Mom.

Nobody does it better than Kathleen Turner as Beverly Sutphin in this classic 1994 Dark Comedy.

Here's the 411 on it for the uninitiated:

"Happy housewife Beverly Sutphin has a charmed life - a beautiful suburban home, a successful dentist husband, and two normal teenagers. However, when one of her son's teachers speaks disparagingly of the boy at a parent-teacher conference, Bev runs the instructor over in the school parking lot. Suddenly she has an insatiable taste for murder. Six homicides later, the cops get wise to her crimes"

Something to contemplate today...

Have a good one Minions!!!

Mother's Day

Norman Bates
"Psycho"
Happy Mother's Day, to all of you out there who have a paternal role in a child's life. Because as Norman Bates says, well refer to the above image for that quote.

Yeah, I took a turn to the macabre a tad today, but not really, it's more of a nostalgia type of thing. You see there was this Psycho marathon on HBO recently and I sat through it, the danger of channel surfing.
Mother & Son
Norma & Norman Bates
Thus when Mother's Day 2019 arrived I thought it would be a nice twist to honor those out there who know their role by going a little mad, like we all do sometimes 😉

So Cheers to everyone out there who has one of the most important jobs in the world.

Happy Mother's Day to you all!

Mother's Day

Fun Times!
l-r
My Sister, Sue Waters, My Mom & Me
It's that day of the year again. You know the one set aside to acknowledge Mom's everywhere.

So I tip my hat to all women out there who have taken on this important job.

On that note let me tip my hat to the two special ones. "Yes" that's correct peeps it's time to meet my Sister and my Mom.

Needless to say I love them both and think they are both amazing in their own way. My Mom paid me a visit in Los Angeles this past Christmas and we had a blast.

My Sister, Sue Waters needs to, so we too can have a blast. In the meantime she is the Step Monster to my three nieces who call her that jokingly as a term of endearment.

The two of them have influenced my life in many wonderful ways and helped to make me the best version of myself I can be. So here's to the two of you and all the rest...

Happy Mother's Day!

Love,
Michael

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day
Michael Shinafelt
Happy Mother's Day! Yep, this is the day we celebrate all you Mother's out there, you've earned it!

This is going to be a short column, because I am a short man. I would simply like express my gratitude to my Mother Jan Landburg-Shinafelt

No matter how many tough times there have been, and there have been many, Mom I have always been able to count on you to be there.

I custom made the image above and posted it on her Facebook wall exclusively for her. Oh, and I have also included my favorite pic of her and myself in this blog and posted it on Facebook and Twitter in celebration of the big "M."
My Favorite Mother
Ain't Social Media grand? Also this will be the first and last time you will ever hear me use the term "ain't" in my writing. I know it is now recognized by Webster's as an actual word, but it wasn't when I was a kid growing up.

In fact my Mother used to say, when I uttered it: "Ain't, ain't fell in the paint" - I rest my case.

Wishing all the Mother's out there a happy, happy, joy, joy!!!

I Ain't Your Mama, but you can follow me here:

Michael's Musings

The Real Man Behind The Curtain
Michael Shinafelt
Photo: Jay Jorgensen
This has been a week. What kind of a week has it been Michael? The kind where you need to ignore the little orange man behind the curtain. I'm in touch with reality, he isn't.

If you need to ask who that is, you really shouldn't be here, or really anywhere else for that matter.

Figure it out. It's time to move on, let's have some fun...that is all. Good times ahead!!!!

Smells Like Nixon Spirit, Only 10 Time Worse!

I'm too sexy to be thirsty

Grab a bag of cucumbers & bananas and carry on

Black Man in Hollywood this past week standing over Vera Miles Star ranting: I see you Vera Miles you're a Ni**er! Perhaps in another life.

Helpful Hint - Never drink Tejava Tea with a smoothie the acidic combo made me hurl

Finally went back to yoga yesterday, hate it, but love what it does for me

Fashion Police was on at the same time as Pretty Little Liars this past week. Which one did I watch???

It's Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day!
l-r My Sister, Mom & Me
Hello peeps, and Happy Mother's Day! Today is the day specifically set aside to honor that special someone who you call Mom, I personally never use the word Mother because I use that word for other things.

Today I am honoring two women, my Mom and my Sister. While my Sister obviously isn't my Mom but she is an amazing Step Mom to my three awesome nieces. Also it is my wonderful siblings Birthday today as well.

Sue is the best Sister in the world. She is always there for me with her love and support and most importantly if I need to confide in someone she can keep a secret.

My Mom is always there for me as well. Her belief in me and the path I am on never falters. Of course we aren't always on the same page, but the love is unconditional.

The photo above was taken outside the Tides Tavern (in case you couldn't tell) in Gig Harbor, WA when I was visiting for Christmas after we all had lunch there. I remember it well. I had my first steak and brie sandwich, YUM!

Good Times! Miss you two, love you and I will see you again soon.

Happy Mother's Day Mom & Sue

Happy Birthday Sis, no I won't say how old you are <wink>

On January 21,  “The Real” is set to launch “Loni’s Laugh Off,” a stand-up comedy competition to find the newest up and coming comedy talent.  “This is close to me, because I started doing stand-up when I was still working as an engineer.  It took a long time before I could quit my day job and make a living off my jokes . So, if you’re out there with a nine-to-five job, spending your nights at open mics, this competition is for you.” Says Loni.

Viewers (18 or older who have never appeared on television doing stand up) have until Friday, February 12 to go to www.TheReal.com  and upload a short video (no more than 3 minutes) of their best comedy routine.  Loni will pick her 3 favorites and then viewers will vote on-line on the 3 finalists with the winner being chosen on “The Real” March 2.  In addition, the grand prize winner will get to open for Loni at one of her LIPSHTICK STAND-UP COMEDY SHOWS at the Venetian in Las Vegas, Nevada.   Lipshtick was the 2015 winner of “Best Comedy Show” by the Las Vegas Review Journal, and has featured comediennes such as Loni, Lisa Lampanelli and Roseanne Barr.

In the ten plus years since she began doing comedy full time, Loni has found her niche on The Real(“It's like a younger, intoxicated version of The View” said Jezebel), as well as regular appearances spinning tunes as the house DJ on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.  Loni also currently co-hosts the Café Mocha radio show cafemocharadio.com with rapper MC Lyte.  They’ve interviewed President Obama and the First Lady as well as superstars like John Legend, Toni Braxton among many others.  Café Mocha is the only nationally syndicated show of its kind that was created exclusively BY and FOR women of color.  You can catch the nationally syndicated show on over 40 stations across the country including SiriusXM Channel 141.
