Today is Mother's Day brought to you by Coronavirus 2020. All sarcasm aside, Happy Mother's Day to all the individuals out there to who it applies. May your next Mother's Day be filled with many brunches at your favorite restaurant. The photo above is my favorite one of me and my Mom. Enjoy your special day 💝
Happy Mother's Day, to all of you out there who have a paternal role in a child's life. Because as Norman Bates says, well refer to the above image for that quote. Yeah, I took a turn to the macabre a tad today, but not really, it's more of a nostalgia type of thing. You see there was this Psycho marathon on HBO recently and I sat through it, the danger of channel surfing.
Mother & Son Norma & Norman Bates
Thus when Mother's Day 2019 arrived I thought it would be a nice twist to honor those out there who know their role by going a little mad, like we all do sometimes 😉 So Cheers to everyone out there who has one of the most important jobs in the world. Happy Mother's Day to you all! Mother's Day on Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mother%27s_Day
It's that day of the year again. You know the one set aside to acknowledge Mom's everywhere. So I tip my hat to all women out there who have taken on this important job. On that note let me tip my hat to the two special ones. "Yes" that's correct peeps it's time to meet my Sister and my Mom. Needless to say I love them both and think they are both amazing in their own way. My Mom paid me a visit in Los Angeles this past Christmas and we had a blast. My Sister, Sue Waters needs to, so we too can have a blast. In the meantime she is the Step Monster to my three nieces who call her that jokingly as a term of endearment. The two of them have influenced my life in many wonderful ways and helped to make me the best version of myself I can be. So here's to the two of you and all the rest... Happy Mother's Day! Love, Michael
"That moment when you realize you actually are becoming your mother" - Rumer Willis It's the day after the Memorial Day Weekend and I am sure some of us are quite hungover and some of us (me) not. So if you think you are seeing double presently, don't flip out, you are! Yep, this is a side by side image of Dancing With The Stars champ Rumer Willis and her Mom Demi Moore. Dressed exactly alike and playing head games with us all. Rumer used the opening quote when she posted this photo on her Instagram with the hash tag #imnotmad - That's good you aren't Rumer because there's not a whole lot you can do about it other than drastic plastic, surgery that is. But why would you?! Your Mother is quite the looker and you could do worse than be her doppelganger. So douse some drops on those boozy eyes, or not and get on with your week. Enjoy this messing with your vision moment courtesy of Rumer, Demi & Moi. Rumer on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ruelarue/?hl=e
Happy Mother's Day! Yep, this is the day we celebrate all you Mother's out there, you've earned it!
This is going to be a short column, because I am a short man. I would simply like express my gratitude to my Mother Jan Landburg-Shinafelt.
No matter how many tough times there have been, and there have been many, Mom I have always been able to count on you to be there.
I custom made the image above and posted it on her Facebook wall exclusively for her. Oh, and I have also included my favorite pic of her and myself in this blog and posted it on Facebook and Twitter in celebration of the big "M."
My Favorite Mother
Ain't Social Media grand? Also this will be the first and last time you will ever hear me use the term "ain't" in my writing. I know it is now recognized by Webster's as an actual word, but it wasn't when I was a kid growing up.
In fact my Mother used to say, when I uttered it: "Ain't, ain't fell in the paint" - I rest my case.
Wishing all the Mother's out there a happy, happy, joy, joy!!!
In case you have been living under a rock tonight the FX limited series Feud premieres. What's it about you ask, boy you really need to get out more. It's about the legendary Hollywood feud between Bette Davis & Joan Crawford.
The show has been getting a lot of hype due in no small part to the fact that it pairs two real life acting legends Jessica Lange as Crawford and Susan Sarandon as Davis. While that is all well and a good reason to tune in, there is someone else in the cast who is deserving of just as much attention.
Kiernan Shipka who portrayed Sally Draper on Mad Men is going to set her relationship status to complicated when she appears as the daughter of Bette Davis BD Hyman.
Shipka is a quite magnetic and gifted actress and is sure to chew her fair share of scenery when she spars with Sarandon as her on screen Mother (read into that word choice what you will.)
Dolly Parton, Dolly Parton, Dolly Parton...need I say more?
It's official!! During the NBC Upfronts in New York City this morning, where Dolly Parton made a surprise appearance, word came that NBC has greenlit the first original movie under its development deal with the music Icon, actress and songwriter. Coat of Many Colors, named after Parton’s song, will be based on Parton’s upbringing, with the Parton serving as executive producer.
Parton had called the 1971 track her favorite song she has written. It tells the story of how her mother stitched together a coat for her daughter out of rags given to the family, telling her the biblical story of Joseph and his Coat of Many Colors. But when the girl, all excited, debuts the new coat at school, she is ridiculed by her classmates for wearing rags.
The original coat is now on display in Parton’s Chasing Rainbows Museum at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN.
NBC’s deal with Parton, announced in January, includes a series of standalone TV movies based on Parton’s songs, stories and life. They will contain music but won’t be musicals, with Parton possibly appearing in some. Parton is developing the projects with production partner Sam Haskell of Magnolia Hill Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television.
Coat of Many Colors is part of NBC’s slate of event programming for next season, which also includes previously announced The Reaper, a miniseries based on the best-selling memoir by Sgt. Nicholas Irving, a decorated African-American sniper who was deployed in Afghanistan for 100 days, and holiday musical The Wiz Live!.
To all of you Moms out there Happy Mother's Day! One of my favorite people, Actress/Writer/Icon Traci Lords says her greatest role ever is being a Mom to her son Gunnar pictured with her above. No, he isn't the guy with the silver hair on the right he is the young man in the middle. The guy on the right is her foxy husband Jeff. So I thought I would share this portrait of Traci and her family, courtesy of Celebrity Wife Swap. Yes, you read correctly Traci will be swapping places with Jackee, of 227 and Sister, Sister fame on the Wednesday May 20th episode of Celebrity Wife Swap at 10pm on ABC. Traci says she and her family had a great time and that son Gunnar steals the show. I am sure he does, his effervescent personality jumps at you in the photo. "The natural state of motherhood is unselfishness. When you become a mother, you are no longer the center of your own universe. You relinquish that position to your children" - Jessica Lange Keep up with Mama T at: https://www.facebook.com/tracilordsfan https://twitter.com/thetracilords
"You can call me queen Bee And baby I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule" - Lorde One of the best new shows you may, or may not be watching is on E! The Royals it's bombastic entertainment! They proved it too. With the recent guest appearance by the awesome Joan Collins as the biggest mother of all time, Yep, she was mother to the Queen, played by one of my grrrrrrrl crushes Elizabeth Hurley. Work! Crown yourself at:
OMG! Imagine my excitement when I found out, Bo Derek was cast as Tara Reid's Mom (I try to refrain from the term "Mother" for many reasons) in Sharknado 3 ! Well if you can't, let me explain. Bo Derek was a HUGE sex symbol when I grew up. Thus she was my first girl crush, I had a BD poster on my wall, if you don't believe me ask my Mom (again, not Mother). When I first saw this striking beauty in the late Blake Edwards progressive sexual comedy "10" with the great, and also late Dudley Moore, I was in L-O-V-E! Oh and BTW I was too young to see the film and saw it on Showtime with a friend behind my parents backs. However they then took myself and my sister to see my most favorite Bo film of all time, Tarzan The Ape Man - campy, awesome, brilliant and it made her and her deceased husband Jon Derek a fortune as they owned the rights. Hey, Fashion House with her and Morgan Fairchild was pretty awesome too! Congrats Bo, can't wait! Go Bo at: http://officialboderek.com/
That's right people, she does. Did you happen to see her guest starring on the Jennifer Love Hewitt show "Ghost Whisperer" where she played Occult Anthropology Professor Avery Grant who was quite taken off guard that her teachings had some truth to them with the help of ghost visitations and a Ouija Board? Well she did indeed speak to the dead on the show, Boo! Interestingly enough Margaret has an extensive collection of Ouija Boards, yes that's correct, one of the most popular stand-up comics on the planet loves her some Ouija's - so it being the Halloween Season and all, I asked Margaret to tell me her scariest experience with one.
Margaret Cho & Jennifer Love Hewitt on "Ghost Whisperer"
Tell us about it, Margaret ...
"We have Ouija Boards all over my house, and once I looked at one of the very vintage boards - probably from the turn of the century or before, and it seemed that the planchette was moving on its own. It's kind of an Egyptian/art deco thing, and no one was touching the planchette, it was just circling the board by itself, like it had a motor or something. Then I found out my husband had rigged the board with a battery operated planchette! No ghosts from the afterlife trying to contact me. Just a 9 volt battery strapped to the inside - but boy it was scary looking!"
Ouija Board
That would be scary and what great Halloween prank!
Margaret is currently on tour with her stand-up show "Mother" and is also doing her podcast "Monsters of Talk" with Jim Short.
Don't be afraid, for "Mother" tour dates & updates log onto:
Margaret Cho is on the loose! Where shall we begin? Season five of "Drop Dead Diva" on Lifetime seems like a good starting point, follow that up with new tour dates for her acclaimed comedy show "Mother".
Not to mention her three women fresh out of jail YouTube series "In Transition" and she's baaaaaack co-hosting "The View" Thursday July 25th and Friday July 26th, hoping to take over one of the vacant seats.
There are so many other things I could say, instead of reading my shopping list let's let Margaret tell us herself.
MS: "Drop Dead Diva" is back! Did you think that would happen since Lifetime initially cancelled it?
MC: You never really know with TV. You never know how things are going to go, that's the nature of it. What's really great is the fans really love "Drop Dead Diva" and they wanted to see more.
MS: It's a cute show, I've seen it a couple of times. It puts a smile on your face when you're in a bad mood.
MC: I like that.
MS: Sandra Bernhard is a guest this season.
MC: She's amazing, I'm such a fan of hers. We talked about what a sexist Jerry Lewis is when it comes to women in comedy, it's disturbing. I was talking to her about how amazing she was in "The King of Comedy".
MS: Oh she's so good in that!
MC: Sooooo good! It's legendary, a great movie! I think it's Martin Scorsese at his best. With Sandra as a mad stalker...she is so hilarious and so sexy.
MS: She scared the Hell out of me in that!
MC: I love her when she's scary, that's when she's at her best. She's just fabulous in every way, as a comedian, actress and a musician. She is someone I admire tremendously so it was great to have her as part of our show.
Margaret's YouTube Series "In Transition"
MS: By the way "Mistress Lina" I was on season 2 of "Where The Bears Are" and so were you!
MC: Oh that's great! I haven't seen it yet, what part did you play?
MS: I got some good face time in the Faultline Bar scene.
MC: Oh My God I have to watch it. I'm saving it up to watch it all at once, I hate to watch one episode and not be able to see the next one, I have to see it all at once.
MS: Well I was caught of guard by your role as "Mistress Lina" when you pulled the demure Asian Woman thing and when the Bears fell for it you called them racist. (laughs)
MC: I know, it was fun!
MS: Like, where did that come from?! Sorry I sound like Janis Joplin today, I got the rasps this morning.
MC: That's OK.
MS: So I saw you on "The View" was that fun?
MC: That is the job I want most of all. I am in the running to be a host.
MS: Oh wow, that's awesome!
MC: It's a great thing, it would be so cool, I would love it!
MS: Personally I wished Elisabeth Hasselbeck had been on the day you were I would have liked to see an exchange between the two of you. I don't think she's stupid, I think she doesn't articulate her opinions in a clear manner.
MC: She's great, they're all great for their own different points of view, ideas and jokes. It's a real rock-n-roll sort of thing, they all play their different instruments and I'd really love be a part of that band.
MS: How was doing "In Bed With Joan"?
MC: It was a blast! I love Joan Rivers, and I love going over to her house. It's so exciting, and she is so hysterical. I've know her for a long time, and I respect her and love her so dearly.
MS: Like I told a friend recently when you are 80 you want to be Joan Rivers, she has the stamina of a 20 year old and still has her wits about her.
MC: Totally! She is so cool and has such a strong work ethic. An unbelievable presence, such a cool lady.
MS: Since I know touring is your favorite thing, hit me with when you are doing it some more.
MC: At the end of August I will be playing some gigs in Georgia, Athens & Atlanta - I will also be touring all over Europe.

MARGARET TO GUEST ON THE LATE LATE SHOW WITH CRAIG FERGUSON AND THE RICKI LAKE SHOW IN JANUARY
Los Angeles, CA – December 2012 - Critically acclaimed comedian,Margaret Cho is set to return to the road in January for a string of dates in support of her brand-new stand up show bringing audiences her unflinching brand of comedy calledMOTHER. MOTHERoffers up an untraditional look at motherhood and how we look at maternal figures and strong women in queer culture. It’s probably her edgiest show to date, filled with riotous observations on race, drugs, sexuality – gay-straight-everything in between, celebrity, culture, politics – nothing is sacred-least of all this MOTHER.
The cornerstone ofMOTHERrevolves around Cho’s long-suffering Korean mom and a staple of her shows, Seung-Hoon Cho. “It’s great because I get to put a lot of emphasis on my own mother,” Cho explains. “My mother did not prepare me for the world. First - I was named the poetic korean name "moran" which was perfect for the kids at school to call me "moron" and set me up for a good quarter century of therapy. However, I can clean a fish with my bare hands. So there are pros and cons of being from an Asian immigrant family.”
Margarettoured various U.S. and UK markets in late 2012 with Bust magazine attending her show in Paris. “Ms. Cho put on a hysterically funny 90-minute set. It was the most explicit and painfully honest performance I’ve ever seen from her giving it 100%.” MOTHER will visit intimate clubs & theatres beginning January 23 in Asheville, NC. All dates are posted onhttp://www.margaretcho.com/
Margaret was also nominated for her thirdGrammy Awardthis past week. Cho Dependent – Live in Concert nabs a Grammy Award nomination in the Best Comedy Album category. Cho was also nominated for Grammy’s for her 2010Cho Dependent music cd release and for 2004’sRevolutionconcert cd release. The Grammy Awards will be handed out on February 10, 2013.
In addition, Margaret will make various television appearances in January. Look for Margaret to guest onThe Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson Thursday, January 10 and The Ricki Lake show in mid- January.

It’s a Cho, Cho World - with season four of “Drop Dead Diva” already in full swing & her upcoming comedy tour “Mother” not to mention her too cool for school guest spot as Kim Jong Il on “30 Rock” Margaret Cho is in your face B!tches!
She even caught the attention of the Fred Phelps comedy troupe known as The Westboro Baptist Church, who called her a “Lying Pervert” uh, ok, we Cho fans already knew that, duh!
MS: Hi “Lying Pervert“.
MC: It’s true, when I read that I was kind of like, well, yes! I think that’s fine.
MS: The Westboro Baptist Church is so over the top, I find the the sh!t they say oddly funny.
MC: It’s really kind of flattering. Once they had a big picture of Elizabeth Taylor with the words “Fag Hag” underneath it. I thought it was just so flattering, some sort of signage for people who support gay rights, it’s really kind of amazing.
MS: BTW I watched the season four premiere of “Drop Dead Diva” you look like you are having a blast on that show!
MC: Yes, I have a really good time and I really love the cast. They are all really talented actors and we have really amazing guest stars all the time, which is a lot of fun. My favorite this year have been, Patty Duke…and I didn’t even get to meet Kim Kardashian, but I guess she is coming back soon, so hopefully I will get to see her. We’re always having all sorts of fun people drop in. It’s a great place to be for shooting “Drop Dead Diva“, Atlanta, GA, people are here everyday. Kathy Griffin just came through this past weekend and that was a lot of fun. It’s a cool place to be and being part of cast for four years and playing a character for four years is really great.
MS: The chemistry between the actors on the show rocks. I did watch the season four premiere before we spoke, Kim Kardashian wasn’t bad actually.
MC: She was good.
MS: Let's talk about your upcoming tour “Mother”.
Photo: Austin Young
MC: I have to put my tour schedule together for six months out of the year, because the other six months I am working on “Drop Dead Diva”. Every once in a while I’ll be able to get out and do a gig, but that’s pretty rare, finally I’m actually getting to go back out on the road. People have talked about my “Mother” impression all throughout my career, I wanted to do a show that was just, full on about her (laughs). It’s also about how I have become a “Mother” for the Queer community, I became a maternal figure within that context. This show is about my Mom, dedicated to Mom’s and about a Mom, which would be me I guess. (laughs)
MS: Do you ever want kids for real?
MC: No, no, I mean it is a possibility, it’s important to think, that even if I am not an actual “Mother” I still have to be there for Queer/LGBT young kids. You have to be there as an adult figure within the Queer community. We all have to do that it’s an important thing. In my generation I lost a lot of people that I looked up to in the Queer community. People that are “Generation X’ers” have to have much more of a parental influence to bridge that gap.
MS: There are plenty of people that I do that with. Since we were on the subject of Mom’s I had never really asked you if you wanted to become one, so I had to go there.
MC: You sort of become one by default, in the sense that when you age and get older you just become a kind of a “Mother” even if you don’t literally have child, you have one, we all do.
MS: I caught your guest stint on “30 Rock” as North Korean Dictator Kim Jong Il, you played a guy, but it really worked.
MC: Oh yeah, it was insane because I looked just like him. When I went outside, I was standing there in the bald cap and the wig…I got cruised by this hot older Bear. He thought I was a hot young Asian Bear, I’m like: “ I just got “Bear Cruised” - but I could not follow through on it exactly because I am sure he did not know I was a woman. (laughs)
MS: Yeah, I did not recognize it was you right off.
MC: It’s so crazy how much I look like him, it’s really scary.
MS: Tina Fey said it was one of her proudest moments on the show, having you on as Kim Jong Il, how cool is that?
MC: I really love her and am so proud to have been on the show and have played that character, I am actually North Korean. To be from there and to be isolated from my family because of this dictator, and to be able to make fun of him is a great thing, but it is also pretty sad too, it’s a weird situation.
MS: When he died what were your thoughts?
MC: I was hoping there would be some sort of a change, that it would be time for that country to open up, but that hasn’t happened obviously it has gotten a bit worse. There is less contact, less communication and less scrutiny.
MS: How’s your music going?
MC: I will be doing some music on “Drop Dead Diva” this year.
MS: Very cool!
MC: Also I am so excited to go out on tour as well!
MS: Out of everything you do is touring your favorite?
MC: Touring is and will always be my favorite job! I really love stand-up.
Margaret Cho is not a “Lying Pervert” keep up with her at: www.margaretcho.com

MARGARET
CHO RETURNS TO “DROP DEAD DIVA” FOR SEASON 4 PREMIERE ON JUNE
3
MARGARET
SET TO REPRISE HER ROLE AS
KIM JONG IL ON “30
ROCK” MAY 17 AND 24
MARGARET’S BRAND NEW STAND UP SHOW CALLED
“MOTHER” KICKS OFF THIS SUMMER
“CHO DEPENDENT” DVD AVAILABLE
NOW
Los
Angeles, CA - May 2012 - Margaret Cho
is
gearing up for one of her busiest year’s yet.
On tap for 2012 is Cho’s return to Lifetime Television’s Drop
Dead Diva, premiering June 3rd, a reprise of her role as Kim
Jong Il on NBC’s Season Finale of 30 Rock, a hosting gig on her new
show airing on the Food Network this fall, a brand new
summer tour of intimate venues beginning August 11th in P-Town, Cape
Cod and various other TV appearances.
Cho
is back as “Teri” on the dramedy hit show Drop Dead Diva, now entering its fourth
season. Drop Dead Diva is not only beloved on
Lifetime, but by the many stars who have queued up to guest on the show,
including Paula Abdul, Wanda Sykes,
Rosie O’Donnell, Vivica Fox and Cybil Shepard.
Season four’s line-up includes Brandy Norwood, Kim Kardashian, Serena
Williams and John Ratzenberger among many other surprises.
In
addition to Diva, Cho is set to
appear on 30 Rock’s May 17 episode as well as the Season
Finale, bringing back her hilarious gender-bending interpretation of North
Korean leader Kim Jong Il. Cho-as-Il
kidnapped Jack Donaghy’s (Alec Baldwin) new wife Avery (Elizabeth Banks), and
seems to have made her his First Lady. How this will play out since the
real-life dictator’s demise last December is anyone’s guess, but look for Cho to
play TWO characters in the same episode.
Margaret
is also confirmed to make guest appearances on CNN Showbiz Tonight, Monday, May 28, Watch What Happen’s Live with Andy
Cohen on May 29, The View on
June 1, Chelsea Lately on June 4 and
The Talk on July 30.
Along
with her acting roles, Margaret can be seen as host on the upcoming reality show
Blind Dinner Party, airing this fall
on the Food Network. Seven strangers, from totally different backgrounds, with
very dissimilar views, come together to dine at what can best be described as
the most dysfunctional family dinner you’ve ever seen.
Margaret mediates this
experiment where viewers will find out if food can become a common denominator
amongst very diverse people.
Not
one to idle, Margaret is going to be kicking off her brand-new stand up show
bringing audiences her unflinching brand of comedy called MOTHER. MOTHER
offers up an untraditional look at motherhood and how we look at maternal
figures and strong women in queer culture.
It’s probably her edgiest show to date, filled with riotous observations
on race, drugs, sexuality – gay-straight-everything in between, celebrity,
culture, politics – nothing is sacred-least of all this MOTHER.
