Kiefer Sutherland’s cinematic “Shirley Jean” video, which tells the story of a man's last night on death row, taking the form of a goodbye letter to a woman he once loved, premiered on CMT channels andplatformsJune 21. "It was the one song on the album that obviously was not a very personal story from my own life," Sutherland tells Rolling Stone Country. "I had a huge respect for Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard. These guys wrote about the dirtier side of life and the tougher aspects of life. Cash realized he wasn't a ‘bad guy,’ and that maybe some of these people in prison aren’t 'bad guys.' He gave them a kind of dignity that I really respected. He created an avenue of forgiveness that I don't think was as available at that time. I love the way he did that. So I really wanted to write a song about that."
“Shirley Jean” is the third video releases from his debut album DOWN IN A HOLE (click here to download).

Reviewers applauded Sutherland’s vocals, guitar licks and songwriting style when he performed more than 75 dates in 2016:
People may have come to see a celebrity up close, but Sutherland earned the crowd's respect through solid songs instead of star power...His original, unheard material dominated. -Piet Levy, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Sutherland’s songs, which ranged from folk to blues-rock to straight-up country, were consistently strong – often with deep, telling lyrics…. His voice also was a cut above the expected celebrity singer...not afraid to be strong or gruff, and full of feeling because of it. -John J. Moser, The Morning Call
His raspy, mid-rangy voice is expressive, and it gets the job done. Onstage, as you’d expect, he’s got personality. His band is superb...Their tight, punchy, sound puts across Sutherland’s hard-edged country-rock songs about love, pain, and regrets washed down with whiskey. -Jim Beckerman, North Jersey News
Recently, Sutherland performed “Can’t Stay Away” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and “Calling Out Your Name” on “The View.” Sutherland also graced the cover of Guitar Aficionado, Goldmine Magazine and Collectible Guitar issues.

“Kiefer Sutherland...slows down and unwinds on his debut album, a collection of 11 rough-edged country songs…The album has an unexpected, unvarnished authenticity that is pleasant, if sometimes familiar.” -Jill Lawless, Associated Press
“The perfect soundtrack for your Americana, dive bar road trip, “All She Wrote” starts off with an intro that would sound right at home during the duel scene in a modern western. Sutherland’s gritty vocals overlap electric guitar and crashing drums…” -Kat Harlton, Lithium Magazine

“Kiefer Sutherland’s new album DOWN IN A HOLE casts the popular actor in the role of talented songwriter/musician, something as unexpected as a 24 plot twist. His voice and original material are strong, begging the question, “Kiefer, what took you so long?” - Mike Ragogna, Huffington Post
“Highlighted by his gravelly, whiskey-soaked growl, 49-year-old Kiefer Sutherland’s debut set of electric guitar–enhanced Southern rockers and smoky barroom ballads fares better than most other actors’ first releases.” - Ian Drew, US Weekly
“The perfect soundtrack for your Americana, dive bar road trip, “All She Wrote” starts off with an intro that would sound right at home during the duel scene in a modern western. Sutherland’s gritty vocals overlap electric guitar and crashing drums…” - Kat Harlton, Lithium Magazine
“This record is the closest thing I’ve ever had to a journal or diary. All of these songs are pulled from my own personal experiences. As much as I have enjoyed the writing and recording process, I am experiencing great joy now being able to play these songs to a live audience, which was something I hadn’t counted on,” Sutherland said of DOWN IN A HOLE.

Margaret Cho Is Here To Help
Photo: Dusti Cunningham
Yes, tomorrow if you watch the talk fest The View you will get some Margaret Cho realness mixed in with...like who the heck is even hosting that show anymore?! There has been such a revolving door and so many people filling in for other people who need people, whatever! All you need to know about tomorrow's broadcast is Margaret will be on addressing the topics du jour. One thing I am positive will come up will be Ms. Cho's sophomore musical effort American Myth. Can I get an amen and a high five to this?! So if you are a fan of The View, Thursday is going to have a little extra something, something. If you are a Cho fan, well this is the only day you are mandated to tune in, Tivo and or DVR this show. Margaret is here for you and your almost Friday rut, yes, really. Also, be sure to start your week off with Margaret and the Fashion Police squad when they pass judgment on the outfits from the Billboard Music Awards this coming Monday May 23rd. When it comes to helping you out with the weekly grind, Margaret has got you covered. Pencil Margaret in for your week at: http://margaretcho.com/
"Sexual abuse, becomes self abuse if you don't murder the rapist inside you" - Margaret Cho Margaret Cho stated on her recent appearance on The View that she wants you to "snatch the pebble from my hand" for those of you who don't know the TV classic Kung Fu, well Grasshopper you have much to learn...that's why Wikipedia was invented. Yes, Cho has sheared her hair for her video I Want To Kill My Rapist which debuts tomorrow, Friday the 13th on PerezHilton.com. The song is about people expressing their views and ridding themselves of their anger against all types of sexual abuse. As Margaret puts it: "Cathartic rage has to have voice." Watch the clip from Margaret's appearance on The View below. Looking forward to seeing you again at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, CASaturday the 14th Margaret, it's been too long.
While I am not in the habit of doing this in general, I feel strangely compelled during another day of over the top heat in Los Angeles to wish George and Amal Clooney a Happy One Year Anniversary !
Yeah, you remember it was the gasp heard round the world when perpetual Hollywood bachelor, George Clooney married the then Amal Alamuddin. Not only is she beautiful she is also a very accomplished Human Rights Lawyer.
So go figure when Barbara Walters interviewed Mrs. Clooney as her most intriguing person of the year all she could babble on about was how she nabbed her husband. Barbara really, retire completely not just from The View, please.
Not only are these two a media outlets wet dream of a couple, more importantly they seem like the perfect fit and in a year where an exodus of couples splitting has been a weekly occurrence it is nice to see two people who look like they were meant for each other.
While The View is a show I avoid at all costs I do love Ms. Raven-Symone for a myriad of reasons.
Having caught her on the show by happenstance (it's what they had on TV in the waiting room) I may now tune in once in a while to check her thoughts out. She has brings a sparkle to the show that has sorely been lacking for years and I really respect her opinions and intelligence, Raven is bad ass!
And if she gets her way on her request to have Caitlyn Jenner on the show you KNOW I will be glued to the TV for that one! Here is what she has to say on the subject - Source E! News:
"I think Caitlyn Jenner is a very brave woman," the 29-year-old TV personality told E! News. "I think she has done a lot of things that will inspire many other people in the world to journey down their truth path...and I'm sure she would love us!" That's so Raven, and I love her for it! Margaret Cho is on the loose! Where shall we begin? Season five of "Drop Dead Diva" on Lifetime seems like a good starting point, follow that up with new tour dates for her acclaimed comedy show "Mother".
Not to mention her three women fresh out of jail YouTube series "In Transition" and she's baaaaaack co-hosting "The View" Thursday July 25th and Friday July 26th, hoping to take over one of the vacant seats.
There are so many other things I could say, instead of reading my shopping list let's let Margaret tell us herself.
MS: "Drop Dead Diva" is back! Did you think that would happen since Lifetime initially cancelled it?
MC: You never really know with TV. You never know how things are going to go, that's the nature of it. What's really great is the fans really love "Drop Dead Diva" and they wanted to see more.
MS: It's a cute show, I've seen it a couple of times. It puts a smile on your face when you're in a bad mood.
MC: I like that.
MS: Sandra Bernhard is a guest this season.
MC: She's amazing, I'm such a fan of hers. We talked about what a sexist Jerry Lewis is when it comes to women in comedy, it's disturbing. I was talking to her about how amazing she was in "The King of Comedy".
MS: Oh she's so good in that!
MC: Sooooo good! It's legendary, a great movie! I think it's Martin Scorsese at his best. With Sandra as a mad stalker...she is so hilarious and so sexy.
MS: She scared the Hell out of me in that!
MC: I love her when she's scary, that's when she's at her best. She's just fabulous in every way, as a comedian, actress and a musician. She is someone I admire tremendously so it was great to have her as part of our show.
Margaret's YouTube Series "In Transition"
MS: By the way "Mistress Lina" I was on season 2 of "Where The Bears Are" and so were you!
MC: Oh that's great! I haven't seen it yet, what part did you play?
MS: I got some good face time in the Faultline Bar scene.
MC: Oh My God I have to watch it. I'm saving it up to watch it all at once, I hate to watch one episode and not be able to see the next one, I have to see it all at once.
MS: Well I was caught of guard by your role as "Mistress Lina" when you pulled the demure Asian Woman thing and when the Bears fell for it you called them racist. (laughs)
MC: I know, it was fun!
MS: Like, where did that come from?! Sorry I sound like Janis Joplin today, I got the rasps this morning.
MC: That's OK.
MS: So I saw you on "The View" was that fun?
MC: That is the job I want most of all. I am in the running to be a host.
MS: Oh wow, that's awesome!
MC: It's a great thing, it would be so cool, I would love it!
MS: Personally I wished Elisabeth Hasselbeck had been on the day you were I would have liked to see an exchange between the two of you. I don't think she's stupid, I think she doesn't articulate her opinions in a clear manner.
MC: She's great, they're all great for their own different points of view, ideas and jokes. It's a real rock-n-roll sort of thing, they all play their different instruments and I'd really love be a part of that band.
MS: How was doing "In Bed With Joan"?
MC: It was a blast! I love Joan Rivers, and I love going over to her house. It's so exciting, and she is so hysterical. I've know her for a long time, and I respect her and love her so dearly.
MS: Like I told a friend recently when you are 80 you want to be Joan Rivers, she has the stamina of a 20 year old and still has her wits about her.
MC: Totally! She is so cool and has such a strong work ethic. An unbelievable presence, such a cool lady.
MS: Since I know touring is your favorite thing, hit me with when you are doing it some more.
MC: At the end of August I will be playing some gigs in Georgia, Athens & Atlanta - I will also be touring all over Europe.

Hey all you Cho Ho's out there, heads up! "Entertain Me" friend & favorite Margaret Cho will be co-hosting "The View" tomorrow morning June 19, 2013 - the original women on the verge of a ....fill in your own blank, show (Hey "The Talk" is a copycat people)
Our Lady of the Cho will go head to head and trade wits, and articulate opinions with, none other than Barbara Walters & Whoopi Goldberg. I would have included Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck in that statement, but you have to possess the two abovementioned qualities which neither of those women can claim.
Margaret could eat those two for lunch one hand tied behind her back with a blindfold on! Hey, but it will be interesting in seeing how she navigates the needy. Even more so how she actually interacts with two women who are her intellectual peers.
So all you Ho's out there say "Hey"! and Tivo, Record or watch "The View" L-I-V-E with the formidable and always opinionated Ms. Cho, it's going to be a bumpy and interesting ride....!
