Pitch Black

THERE'S A NEW REASON TO BE AFRAID OF THE DARK. A sci-fi/horror sleeper hit that birthed a franchise and launched the career of a new action movie icon, Pitch Black holds its own today as a nerve-shredding creature-feature in which the monsters outside finally meet their match against a monster within. When an intergalactic transport ship crashes on a remote desert planet with no sign of help on the horizon, the survivors, led by Fry (Radha Mitchell), band together to find a way back home. Among the passengers is Riddick (Vin Diesel), a convicted murderer being transported by marshal Johns (Cole Hauser) - and now freed of his chains and on the loose. But as a solar eclipse plunges the planet into total darkness, a threat even worse than Riddick reveals itself, and the last humans standing may have to form an uneasy truce with the cunning fugitive (whose eyes have been surgically altered to see in the dark) to last the long night. Boasting crackerjack direction and a whip-smart script by David Twohy, as well as a star-making performance by Diesel, Riddick's first outing is freshly unleashed in an illuminating, brand new 4K restoration, with hours of exclusive bonus content.

Monday Motivation

Surfer Guy
Liam Hemsworth

Hello from the land down under, I have always had a thing for Surfer Guys. No, I don't surf myself. Why? I have a fear of sharks, and the ocean in general.

Today"s Monday Motivation comes in the form of yummy Liam Hemsworth hitting the waves in Byron Bay, Australia. Hence the down under greeting.

So, since I have admitted even though like Surfer Guys that I don't surf, nor have I ever tried, today's Monday Motivation is to try something new. No, it does not have to be as dramatic as surfing, it can be a small gesture such as taking a new route on your walk to the grocery store, or perhaps riding the bike you haven't been on in a while.

Nothing too fancy is required of my MM challenge other than just do something or try something different than your usual routine. We are all going somewhat stir crazy at present I assume and an action, no matter how small, can change it up and put a whole different spin on your day.

So go out there and seize the day Minions!

Mask

Cher
Remember when Cher starred in the movie Mask for which she won Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival in 1985? Well maybe you don't but whatever, it's a fact and if you are not familiar you know how to Google just put your hands on the keyboard and type.

Anyway today we have the ever fashionable, not to mention ageless icon shopping with the caption she posted stating: "Please wear Masks. I wear gloves 2"

That's correct Minions, Cher is seen shopping with a mask on and complimentary gloves. No complaints all in and doing her part to help keep the Corona Virus under control.

Moving forward peeps, don't be a Karen be a Cher!!!

It will make your Sunday Funday that much more, well, fun 😎

Saturday Sinema: Flash Gordon

One of my favorite movies, not to mention Sam J. Jones isn't exactly hard on the eyes... "No! Not the bore worms!"

PATHETIC EARTHLINGS... WHO CAN SAVE YOU NOW? Super producer Dino De Laurentiis (Dune, Barbarella) brought Alex Raymond's beloved cartoon strip and the long running movie serial to the big screen with celebrated director Mike Hodges (Get Carter, Black Rainbow) at the helm, in a delirious space opera, where Flash is King of the Impossible! Merciless Emperor Ming (Max von Sydow) decides to wreak havoc on Earth in a moment of cruel boredom. Boarding a rocket as a means of escape, star quarterback Flash Gordon (Sam J. Jones), Dale Arden (Melody Anderson) and Dr. Hans Zarkov (Topol) find themselves on Mongo. Taken prisoner Flash must save Dale from becoming Ming's concubine, avoid the amorous intentions of Ming's wicked daughter Aura (Ornella Muti) and unite the warring Kingdoms of Mongo. With endlessly repeatable dialogue, inimitable camp style, the sonic stylings of Queen and a delightful band of characters and actors playing them it's no wonder Flash Gordon has become one of the most beloved sci-fi spectacles of its era with directors such as Edgar Wright, Taika Waititi and Seth MacFarlane paying tribute to it in their work.

Where Does A Body End?

SWANS
Where Does A Body End?
Coming to DVD, Blu-ray, and Deluxe Blu-ray on September 11th

"There really is no other force of music like Swans. Swans stand alone, integral, drenched in pathos. A band to end all bands." - Thurston Moore

Where Does a Body End? is an intimate portrait of the band SWANS, from their roots as a brutal, confrontational post-punk band that emerged from the same early 1980s era NYC that gave us Sonic Youth (and, somehow, Madonna) through their ill-fated bid at mainstream success in the 90s indie-rock gold rush, through breakups and chaos (on and offstage) to their odds-defying current status as one of the most accomplished and ambitious bands in the world, one whose concerts are more like ecstatic rituals than nostalgic trips back through their most popular songs.

SWANS has always been a collection of singular performers, but there's been one constant since its formation in 1982--singer, songwriter Michael Gira. With unfettered access to hundreds of hours of Gira / SWANS archives of never-seen-before recordings, videos, and photographs, the film brings us along the path they needed to carve for themselves. The film is many things, a musical history, a time-capsule, a tour diary, a concert film, but mostly it's the story of a life in the arts, frequently difficult, spanning decades without a safety net, creating the work because Gira says "What else am I going to do?" As bandmate Thor Harris notes, "Michael is not a fearless person, but he is a fearless artist."

Where Does A Body End? has enjoyed festival success around the world from Chicago Underground Film Festival, Doc N Roll Festival (London and several other UK cities), Cinemateket Music Film Festival (Copenhagen), In: Edit Festival (Barcelona), Taoyuan Film Festival (Taiwan), Pop Kultur (Berlin), Sydney Underground Film Festival, Dok Station Film Festival (Bucharest), LUFF Lausanne Underground Film Festival (Switzerland) and many others.

Hump Day & Chill

Feed Me!
Nothing says Hump Day & Chill like a shirtless hunk being fed grapes, so it is written and so it shall be, at least for today.

Life has been pretty stagnant of late, the world seems to have stopped. but we can still smell the roses.

When I saw this image I felt transported and calm. It fed a few fantasies of mine as well. OK, they really aren't fantasies, more like memories. Fluff up your pillow and dream about that one.

This is a perfect oasis for me and gives me all sorts of feels. You know what feels are, correct? Like tranquil, relaxed, groovy get the picture???

So I'm kicking my Hump Day & Chill off with this image in mind. It's giving me life at present and I hope you all get something from it as well.

In the immortal words of Audrey II "Feed Me!"
