80's TV Ladies

80s TV Ladies, a new pop culture and social history podcast looking back at female-driven television shows from the 1980s (with some nods to the 1970s and 1990s), premieres July 20, 2022. The series is produced by 134 West and will be hosted by Susan Lambert Hatem and Sharon Johnson who will provide listeners with behind-the-scenes insight offered up by special guests from those shows. The podcast will be available on all major platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, etc., with new episodes dropping every two weeks.

80s TV Ladies is tailored for lovers of pop culture, fans of the 1980s, aficionados of television, and followers of feminist and social history. Although the series is designed to be light-hearted pop-culture entertainment, and provide listeners with lots of retro love and laughter, it also seeks to seriously explore the role gender played in front of and behind the cameras in '80s programming. The show reckons with the conflicting messages these programs were sending to women, as well as men, throughout the decade and, thanks to syndication and now streaming platforms, for many years to come.

Film Buff Friday: Flatliners

"An original, intelligent thriller, well-directed by Joel Schumacher"

     —Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

SOME LINES SHOULDN'T BE CROSSED. Known for his impressively eclectic filmography and for helping to launch the careers of several young Hollywood stars of the 80s and 90s, Joel Schumacher (The Lost Boys, St. Elmo's Fire) tackles the existential question that, at one time or another, haunts us all: what awaits us after we die? At the University Hospital School of Medicine, five ambitious students subject themselves to a daring experiment: to temporarily induce their own deaths, hoping to glimpse the afterlife before being brought back to life. But as competition within the group intensifies and their visions of the world beyond increasingly bleed into their waking lives, they're about to learn that the greatest threat comes not from the spirit world but from the long-suppressed secrets of their own pasts... Stylishly photographed by Jan de Bont (Basic Instinct) and featuring a cast of Hollywood's hottest talent - including Kiefer Sutherland (Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me), Julia Roberts (Secret in their Eyes) and Kevin Bacon (Wild Things) - Flatliners is the ultimate life-and-death thrill ride.

Michael's Musings

Secret Agent Man
Michael Shinafelt

With the impending Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin and the mass promotion I have been seeing for it lately I've been thinking about secrets. "Yes" I was a huge fan of the original PLL, probably won't watch this one. In my experience the OG is always the best and the spin-offs fail to compare.

Oh, now back to the matter at hand "secrets" we all have them, what are yours? Carry on, or not...

BTW I'm not a homeless girl in drag, the more you know

Hump Day & Chill

While I love Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, the WW OG Lynda Carter will always be the the ultimate Wonder Woman to moi.

BTW Minions did you hear? Lynda did a remix with Dave Aude' of Human and Divine which was released in the nick of time for Pride Month!

Lynda had this to say on the matter:

“I didn’t write Wonder Woman, but if you want to argue that she is somehow not a queer or trans icon, then you’re not paying attention, every time someone comes up to me and says that Wonder Woman helped them while they were closeted, it reminds me how special the role is.”

Lynda truly lives up to the WW legacy that we are lucky enough to have her been a part of, she gets it.

So put on your dance shoes and hit this great remix below, it is one for the playlist!

The Paddington Chainsaw Massacre

The Bear Necessities
Paddington & Marilyn Burns

I thought we could all use a break from the chaos around us and join Paddington on a killing spree, say what?!?!

You read that correctly Minions, Paddington is wielding a mighty chainsaw and is now after Marilyn Burns in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre circa 1974!!!

This comes courtesy of a brilliant photoshop artist I follow on Twitter Jaythechou, his renderings of Paddington inserted into various movies and TV shows is something that always entertains me on my Twitter feed (these days something has to.)

I do hope you enjoy homicidal Paddington as much as I, pleasant dreams...

C'mon Barbie Let's Go Party!

I Got A Brand New Pair Of Rollerskates
Margot Robbie & Ryan Gosling

Look skating down the Venice Beach Boardwalk it's the famous Barbie and her equally famous beau Ken!

This image was captured straight outta the set for the currently filming Barbie Movie.

Now I know simply hearing that is a cringe moment for some of you out there, I too was skeptical at first. But seeing this photo makes me intrigued to say the least.

"Yes" Minions it peaks my interest. After all it is being directed by indie darling Greta Gerwig and was co-written by her an her equally well thought of indie filmmaker partner in life Noah Baumbach, so there!!!

Thus enjoy the fun of seeing Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken skating in some astoundingly loud neon outfits on skates, naturally.

I know I did!!!
