That's So Drew

Flash Ah-ah
Drew Barrymore

Having been around Drew throughout the years this is so her, and not remotely a surprise. She's like a fairy, magical and wonderful...

There's a first time for everything, just ask Drew Barrymore.

The actress started experiencing her first hot flash during the March 27 episode of her eponymous talk show with guests Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler by her side.

"I am so hot, I think I'm having my first perimenopause hot flashes," Drew said while removing her blazer and fanning herself. "For the first time, I think I'm having my first hot flash. Whoa!"

Jennifer then quipped, "Oh, I feel so honored," as she helped Drew loosen the bow on her blouse.

April Fool's Day

While the impact of April Fool's Day has been considerably lessened by the Internet I still like to, as many still do acknowledge it. Hey, traditions die hard...

So here I go with a symbolic gesture, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.

I'm assuming no more needs to be said on this? Yeah, I thought not...

"Bad Bitch Alert"

National Heather Service Issues “Bad Bitch Alert”

A New Anthem by Glam Rappers PrettiBoiRoq and Chanel Jole

Gay Rapper PrettiBoiRoq will celebrate his birthday on March 31 with the release of his scandalous new single and music video, “Bad Bitch Alert (featuring Chanel Jole)”.    Its message is simple: “Bad Bitch is a mindset,” PrettiBoiRoq explains.  “Everyone has the energy inside of them.”  In the song, he and Chanel Jole encourage listeners to live life unapologetically and without reserve.   ““For the longest time, I was uncomfortable living in my skin. Even as late as in my songs from Haus of Ken, when I was rapping about feeling sexy and unapologetic, there was always this underlying insecurity that came through. I’ve evolved a lot since then and it reflects in the new music.”  PrettiBoiRoq’s “Bad Bitch Alert (featuring Chanel Jole)” releases to all digital platforms including iTunes and Spotify on March 31.  Its video will be on YouTube.

“’Bad Bitch Alert’ is an anthem of self-love,” PrettiBoiRoq continues from his Los Angeles recording studio.  “I want the song to be blasting from the speaker while kids are in the bathroom getting ready for the club or in the car on their way to work.  I hope it instantly boosts their egos and reminds them that they got this.  Whatever obstacles block their way, they will overcome because they, too, are bad bitches.”

PrettiBoiRoq wrote the song with Chanel Jole.  The two had been trying to work together for some time.  “We went through hundreds of beats trying to find the right sound for our track. When I came out with the beat that would become ‘Bad Bitch Alert’, I knew right away ‘this is it’!  I sent a demo to Chanel and she began writing the lyrics right away.”  They wrote the third verse together in the studio.

“Bad Bitch Alert” is PrettiBoiRoq’s first official new single since his 2018 sophomore album, Haus of Ken.    “Haus of Ken has and will always be my baby, but I have spent the last few years exploring sounds and working on new creative processes.”  “Bad Bitch Alert” is who PrettiBoiRoq is today, both vocally and lyrically, and where he is in his sexual exploration and body positivity journey.

The “Bad Bitch Alert” music video is an empowering visual that was produced, filmed and edited by Nicholas Eastman.  It stars PrettiBoiRoq and Chanel Jole in a cotton candy coated Barbie and Ken playhouse and both show lots of skin in the music video.   “I have learned to love my body and I am not afraid to show it off, ” PrettiBoiRoq says.   “My style and fashion choices are riskier and risqué-er than ever before and pink has become my trademark color. Every Ken doll needs a little pink.”

PrettiBoiRoq grew up in a tiny town in North Carolina called Pamlico County.  After his mother succumbed to addiction, his parents divorced and he was raised by his religious dad and step mother.

He recalls being picked on a lot for the clothes that he wore and for being gay.  “I moved out of the house as soon as I turned 18 because I was desperate to leave my hometown behind.”

He moved to Los Angeles where he started working in films.  “My LA dreams weren’t on modeling or acting, it was always on the music,” he explains.   “I got hooked on hip hop, the lyricism, the lifestyle from 2Pac and Dr. Dre’s ‘California Love.’ I think hip hop resonates with people who face adversity and with everything I had struggled through with my mom and weight and living in poverty, the aggressive nature of the music allows me to express myself.”

He released his first single, “PrettiBoi Anthym” in December 2015.  His first EP  PrettiBoiRoq, a pop hop record,  was released in June 2016, along with his second single, “New  Sh!t.” “You Don’t Own Me,” PrettiBoiRoq’s most successful single to date, was released in April 2017.  The music video, featuring porn star Arad Winwin, received over 65,000 views on Youtube.

In his second album, Haus of Ken, PrettiBoiRoq honed in on his hip hop roots.  The single “‘Wanna Be Me,’ had a slightly darker, Trap sound to it along with a traditional hip hop beat.

He aims to produce more introspective works in the future.  “I think the queer community needs songs with substance that represent all facets of our stories.  I’ve been writing about issues in my personal life, including how I’ve overcome past relationships and the struggles I dealt with growing up.”

“My hope is that I can inspire someone the way so many artists inspired me. I hope kids listening realize that they don’t have to live by gender standards. Gender doesn’t matter.  Nor does race or sexuality.  Love yourself for the bad bitch that you are.”

Hump Day & Chill

Tonight if you're like me, you're gonna Hump Day & Chill and by watching the VPR drama unfold. According to Urban Legend they just finished taping the reunion. This legend is obviously true because Lala Kent was triggered (see the above meme.)

Based on her post traumatic reunion taping syndrome comment I'm guessing most of the cast will be taking a month off on a secluded tropical island somewhere.

In the meantime let's grab a glass and take a toast to Raquel's big reveal as a true villain, I called this one a long time ago.

She ain't no Bambi Minions!

Join me on the couch tonight for a VPR Hump Day & Chill...

Stick It To Me

Boing!
Emma Stone

In case you haven't figured it out via the byline today is National Something On A Stick Day - Woo Hoo, Yay!

While there are many things I can personally think of that I love on a stick, none of them can be posted on this blog.

Thus we have what else? Emma Stone on a Pogo Stick, boing!

See Emma bounce up and down on her stick per se, looks like fun when done a certain way other than Ms. Stone's.

But she is quite graceful her way, beauty, elegance & style all on a stick, yummy!

Expatriate

LA-raised singer-songwriter Sophia Marie has released her sophomore EP, “the expatriate, immortalized.”

Sophia says, “Your Songs Are Shit!” depicts the experience of going out with a fellow singer and songwriter. It’s inspired by one time I skipped class while studying abroad and showed up to his concert unannounced. This song is about trying to convince yourself that you don’t care about someone, that you’re totally fine and over them, that you think their songs are shitty because their shallow self prevents any lyrical or sonic depth, but, at the same time, you’re there at his concert, spending 20 euros on a ticket, mouthing every single lyric back to him.”

Of the new EP, she shares, “I recorded these three songs in Los Angeles over the summer of 2022 right before my senior year at Georgetown. I wrote the first song “Femme Fatale” while in the middle of my study abroad at Trinity College the fall of 2021. I wrote “Your Songs Are Shit” right at the end of that same study abroad in Ireland, finalizing the lyrics the night before I took the plane from Dublin back to L.A. in late December. I wrote “Could I Be Your Muse?” during my study abroad in Florence, Italy the summer of 2022.

Looking back at these tracks in preparation for new recordings, I thought about how I wrote all these songs while assuming the role of an expatriate, singing about immortalization and historical figures and archetypes and even a singer who mimicked my own role. I wanted to tie it altogether in an EP that would make sense. I thought the title “the expatriate, (immortalized)” really perfectly encapsulated that.”

+++

Sophia Marie's music is autobiographical. Each of her songs tells the story of a young life in progress. From leaving the sunny, casual west coast for a more buttoned-up DC life at Georgetown University (where she studies International Politics) to a life-changing semester abroad in Dublin, to unrequited romances and lovesick travels, each of these experiences is vividly documented in her music.

++++

Singer and songwriter Sophia Marie George is a Los Angeles native and senior in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. Harboring various passions, she finds herself oscillating (sometimes rather chaotically) between many different realms: her major in International Politics, her authorship of creative works, and her love for acting in addition to her music.

Sophia often feels like an ambitious, lust-for-life, nomadic kind of girl without a particular direction, one who doesn’t know exactly what she wants to do or who she wants to be, or where she wants to end up, and her storytelling reflects that indecisiveness, that impulsiveness, that desire to do everything while she’s young. Drawing from her identity as a self-proclaimed “hopeless romantic,” Sophia has a penchant for romanticizing historical figures and events, contemporary lovers, and foreign cities, weaving in the story of her West Coast roots in sunny Los Angeles, her university life in the political and cosmopolitan mecca that is Washington D.C., and her role as an expatriate in foreign cities.

A shamelessly emotional person, Sophia’s vulnerability stands out, with witty lyrics and asides giving comedic, realist commentary on the different places and situations she finds herself in. She is a girl still very much figuring it all out, the kind of crazy soul who seeks out every opportunity and every emotion life can offer. A wildness that sometimes contradicts her inexperienced and naive demeanor, a romanticism that contradicts her occasional feelings of disillusionment, and a performative personality that often contradicts her desire for authenticity.
