Michael's Musings

Look Into My Eyes & Stop Staring At My Nipples
Michael Shinafelt
OK, I called this column Michael's Monday Musings last time, well because they were published on a F#@king Monday

From now on I will simply call it Michael's Musings. You never know when and where they will turn up. Are you ready? Here I go again!!!

Thanks to a well played PR stunt on Dancing With The Stars Ryan Lochte and Cheryl Burke remain. Like they would actually have Burke kicked immediately off after her return to the show?!

If you haven't seen Don't Breathe yet and are a horror/suspense fan, from one to another, I highly recommend it, go!

To Sex-Head, I mean E.G. Daily currently starring in Rob Zombie's 31, congratulations! To the rest of you see it, see it!

I heard a Latin Woman call a Latin Man "N" word pimp the other day. Thanks Donald Trump for the perpetuating of twisted hate.

I recently dumped 13 pounds. Worship me, I am 50.

Why is everyone forgetting Angelina Jolie is Bisexual all of the sudden?

American Horror Story Season 6 is off to quite the lively start. I jumped twice! Can't wait for tonight's episode.

The humidity in Los Angeles this week is grody to the max!

A shout out to Volcano Girl Shani Bayne who recently returned from Nicaragua producing a shoot in a, well, volcano. We met up for spin class for the first time in over a month yesterday, she had no lava burns or lamps.

To my favorite "bad girl" Ms. Traci Lords. Looking forward to attending the launch of your clothing line for Pin-Up Girl this Friday at the boutique in Burbank

That's all folks!

Kiefer Sutherland "Can't Stay Away"

Get dirty with Kiefer Sutherland "Down In A Hole"

Momentum continues for Kiefer Sutherland’s music career and debut album DOWN IN A HOLE with an upcoming performance of his new single “Can’t Stay Away” on ABC’s “The View” Sept. 21. DOWN IN A HOLE, a passion project chock-full of 11 co-written tracks by Sutherland, charted on Billboard’s Top Country Albums and Billboard’s Americana/Folk Albums charts. Sutherland is also on the cover of upcoming cover issues of Guitar Aficionado and Goldmine Magazine. Sutherland will be playing select dates this fall with more to be added soon (tour dates below).

Sutherland is everywhere as he promotes DOWN IN A HOLE and his new ABC series “Designated Survivor” premiering Sept. 21. His music video is on CMT’s Hot 20 Countdown (click here to watch).

DOWN IN A HOLE is also featured in People, Wall Street Journal, Billboard, Huffington Post, Entertainment Weekly, Washington Post, Rolling Stone, Wall Street Journal, Guitar Player, The Boot, Vice/Live Nation TV, Closer Weekly, US Weekly, Sounds Like Nashville, Nashville Country Club, Taste of Country, The Pickup, Paste, Bella Magazine, Celebrity Page, Consequence of Sound, Associated Press and more!

Reviewers are applauding Sutherland’s vocals, guitar licks and songwriting style:

“Kiefer Sutherland...slows down and unwinds on his debut album, a collection of 11 rough-edged country songs…The album has an unexpected, unvarnished authenticity that is pleasant, if sometimes familiar.”
- Jill Lawless, Associated Press

“Kiefer Sutherland’s new album DOWN IN A HOLE casts the popular actor in the role of talented songwriter/musician, something as unexpected as a 24 plot twist. His voice and original material are strong, begging the question, “Kiefer, what took you so long?”
- Mike Ragogna, Huffington Post

“Highlighted by his gravelly, whiskey-soaked growl, 49-year-old Kiefer Sutherland’s debut set of electric guitar–enhanced Southern rockers and smoky barroom ballads fares better than most other actors’ first releases.”
- Ian Drew, US Weekly

“The perfect soundtrack for your Americana, dive bar road trip, “All She Wrote” starts off with an intro that would sound right at home during the duel scene in a modern western. Sutherland’s gritty vocals overlap electric guitar and crashing drums…”
- Kat Harlton, Lithium Magazine

“This record is the closest thing I’ve ever had to a journal or diary. All of these songs are pulled from my own personal experiences. As much as I have enjoyed the writing and recording process, I am experiencing great joy now being able to play these songs to a live audience, which was something I hadn’t counted on,” Sutherland said of DOWN IN A HOLE.

Sutherland recently wrapped up a North American tour where he sold out venues across the U.S. and Canada. Additional dates for this fall will be announced soon.

Keep up with Sutherland on the road by visiting kiefersutherlandmusic.com or connect with Sutherland by following him on Twitter and Facebook.

At Long Last Emmy, Sarah Paulson

Dynamic Duo
Marcia Clark & Sarah Paulson
Honestly I really did not watch that much of the Emmy Awards last night. That being stated I did catch what I thought was a brilliant opening monologue by Jimmy Kimmel and as he pointed out, Sarah Paulson brought along the best plus one of the evening. In case you didn't see them at all it was none other than attorney Marcia Clark who she was nominated for portraying in American Crime Story: The People v OJ Simpson.

Marcia proved to be Sarah's good luck charm as she finally won a long overdue Emmy Award for bringing her to life in the limited series.

Ms. Paulson dedicated most of her speech to Clark when she accepted the gold.

Way to go Sarah! So glad you finally won, and I am impressed with your savvy in choosing Clark as your date for the evening. This will be one of those Emmy moments for the books!

THE FIRST KISS COULD BE YOUR LAST!

Two fraternity pledges head to a seedy part of town to find some entertainment for their college friends but are faced with bloodthirsty vampires! Almost certainly an influence on From Dusk til Dawn, Vamp is superbly designed by many of Grace Jones' own award-winning collaborators and features stunning effects by four-time Oscar winner Greg Cannom (The Lost Boys, Bram Stoker's Dracula). Josh Brolin
This image of a naked Josh Brolin enjoying his morning coffee during a sunrise in Joshua Tree, CA is brought to by Josh's Instagram page. Translation, He posted it himself.

"Yes" Josh has no shame when it comes to the celebrity skin game. In fact the ruggedly handsome actor offspring of the ruggedly handsome actor James Brolin is apparently proud of what he's got and loves to flaunt it judging by the caption he gave the photo:

"Once upon a time, there was a dude who didn't give a..."

Cyndi Lauper Continues Her "Detour"

On The Road Again
Cyndi Lauper

Turn right at the fork in the road...

Grammy®, Emmy® and Tony®-winning singer-songwriter Cyndi Lauper is continuing to take country music by storm with her Billboard Top Country Album DETOUR, which is still in the Top 40 and continues to spark sales at retailers nationwide like Cracker Barrel Old Country Store® and more! Lauper recently stopped by the TODAY show to chat with Kathy Lee and Hoda about DETOUR and her collaborations with country music greats, including Willie Nelson, Alison Krauss, Jewel, Vince Gill and Emmylou Harris. Click HERE to watch the clip.

Known best for her legendary pop icon status, Lauper is reigning in a new legion of fans with her new country-tinged album DETOUR featuring a collection of country covers from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s (track listing below). DETOUR debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart.

"These songs had a profound impact on me when I was a little girl listening to my Aunt Gracie's kitchen radio in Queens. I grew up listening and admiring Patsy Cline, Patsy Montana, Hank Williams - all the greats from the Golden Age of country. It was an honor to record those beautiful songs for DETOUR and I am so thankful for the fans and the country music community for welcoming me with open arms," Lauper said.

Lauper just returned from the European leg of her DETOUR tour and is currently in the midst of the second leg of her U.S. tour which takes her along the west coast before wrapping up October 8 at The Joint in Las Vegas. In addition, Lauper’s annual “Home for the Holidays” concert is scheduled for December 3 at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. Additional details – including special guests performers - will be announced soon. CLICK HERE to purchase tickets before this highly anticipated tour sells out in your area!

Critics are raving about the pop star’s unique approach to country classics:

“The singer confidently twangs and yodels her way through covers of everyone from Patsy Montana to Patsy Cline.” Benjamin Lindsay, Vanity Fair

“Her new release, Detour, an album full of classic country song covers, is less an indicator of the veteran pop star’s desire to change genres than it is a sincere homage to a dozen tunes she grew up listening to on a transistor radio in her aunt’s kitchen and falling in love with.” – Chapman Baehler, Billboard Magazine

“Lauper and Norman native Vince Gill work together to cover ‘You’re the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly,’ … The song is a rollicking and infectious version of the 1978 country B-side recorded by Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty.” Ben Luschen, Oklahoma Gazette

Get To Know Zachary Webber

Zachary Webber
Actor Zachary Webber is one cool dude. How do I know? I have co-starred with him on stage in a two person play. Since then Zach has kept very busy in his chosen career. Delving into everything from voice over to comedy and of course film. I knew when I met Zach he was going places. He has not proved me wrong. He recently had a role in Meg Ryan's directorial debut Ithaca which starred her and Tom Hanks. Zach is here to answer ten random things I have thrown at him. I can't wait to say "I knew him when!"

MS: Ithaca
ZW: I did a scene with Sam Shepard, and I personally made him break while improvising. It is and may always be the greatest moment in my career. I could have died on the spot. I doubt he remembers my name.

MS: Texas

ZW: It's my home, and it's where my heart is, or at least pieces of it. There's nothing particular about Texas if you grew up there and weren't meant to stay. The cows and the food and the bigotry are the main components, and if you ascribe to them all, you stay. I had to go to the big cities. I had to challenge everything I knew, and I still am today.
Rhinestone Cowboy?!
MS: Sasquatch Comedy
ZW: My best friends. Sasquatch has become my rock. I don't know where I'd be today without them.
MS: Barbie Dream House
ZW: My sister had one. Even I, an 8 year old boy, was sort of mesmerized by the thing. I had my own version at the time, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Sewer Lair. But the Dream House was so big. The allure of having a house with a beautiful woman must have started there.
MS: Meg Ryan

ZW: I was enamored with Meg my whole life. When Harry Met Sally is still my favorite movie. She's as kind and gorgeous as you'd expect. One of the nicest people I will ever meet.
MS: Romance Novels
ZW: I never knew they would be the launch pad for my career. Somehow it has become my day job to read these books. If you'd told me when I was 16 that having a sex voice would earn me money I would have scoffed, and my voice would have broke in the process.
MS: Singing

ZW: Always a passion, never a practice.
MS: Puppy Love
ZW: 😎 I have a hard time imagining this one right now. I've known love, but it's always indelibly tied to heartbreak. I'm waiting for puppy love that stays young, as love should. I've always been with people who were dead wrong for me, who I loved deeply. My recent breakup is a testament to that, at an insane level. I had feelings I never knew I could feel. It was such immense passion, but only that. I think of leaves falling and her face, and I just cry. But we were wrong for each other. It's a sad truth everyone must face at some point. Maybe not everyone. But I'm not the type to hide from love. I dive in, at times to my detriment.
MS: Burning Man
ZW: It didn't change my life, it served my life in the moment I needed it most. I needed to be away from the world and see what genuine goodness could be. That can't be taken away. Coming back to earth has been very hard though.
MS: Favorite Drink
