Garden Broom Recordings Set to Release

Resurfaced EP

Debut by New Electronic Artist

Alighted

Chronicling Recent Cancer Experience

~

Lead Single “Resurfaced” out April 2

EP out April 16, 2021

Garden Broom Recordings announces its next release, the Resurfaced EP, by founder, producer, and creative technologist, McLean Macionis, under his new moniker, Alighted, out April 16, 2021. The 4-track EP follows the label’s inaugural release by experimental duo NMND, of which Macionis is a member. Alighted’s debut is a collection of tracks forged from warm analog sounds, raw field recordings, and diffuse granular textures. Drawing inspiration from a personal health crisis, the EP is a unified odyssey complete with moments of hardship and bliss as expressed through the technology that is essential to the artist’s creative practice. The title track and lead single, “Resurfaced,” will arrive on April 2, 2021. To learn more about Alighted, please visit https://linktr.ee/alighted.

The EP chronicles the artist as he comes to grips with his new identity both personally and artistically following a cancer diagnosis. “Imagine a distressed bird flying through an endless sky searching for a place to land. That was my experience following the initial diagnosis, subsequent surgery, and treatment. I was desperate to settle my mind so that I could begin to process the tremendous physical and mental shock.” The image of the bird in search of a place to rest resonated deeply with Macionis so much so that he adopted the moniker Alighted, a verb that describes how a bird descends and eventually settles.

With his newfound identity, Macionis went to work channeling his internal experience through music. “Every track begins at the piano. I usually create a rough sketch, a recording of the melody or harmony, and then focus on realizing the idea using other instruments.” During the production process, Macionis elected to search outside of the computer for the right sounds and instruments to execute his visions. This search prompted him to use drum machines, analog synthesizers, and field recordings as the backbone of the EP’s sound palette.

Walking The Pooch

Man's Best Friend
Jon Hamm

While I am fully aware that "Walking The Pooch" is a euphemism that  means....well look it up. In this case it is a literal thing, and for that my wandering eyes are quite grateful. Especially since it takes on the form of one Jon Hamm.

"Yes" Minions it's Jon Hamm letting his dog out for a walk in Los Angeles and what a sight to behold it is! Especially since he's doing it in shorts that show off his great legs.

However one thing seems to have changed, does Mr. Hamm no longer freeball? Now don't tell me none of you remember the notorious "Hamm" in Jon's sweatpants photos of him going sans underwear. That sight was real and spectacular and from the looks of it he does not seem to have released the Kraken, or maybe the camera angle hides it.

Bummer!!!

Michael's Musings

Blurred Lines
Michael Shinafelt

Do you ever think to yourself "What Line Did I Cross?" In the world we live in is there even one left to do so with? Is this too deep to ponder? Remember when April Fools Day actually was novel and not 365 days a year?

There are so many questions and not enough answers or time to ruminate on them so let's forget about it and dance!

I'm loving little Lil Nas  X current single Montero (Call Me By Your Name)

At first it was weird partying with old guys, the more you know...

Autocorrect is messed up I typed a text to a friend saying "Hi Sandy" and it suggested I follow my greeting with "Hook Elementary" wished I was joking

Got my first vaccine Monday - Pfizer is the word

Koalas have Chlamydia, say that three times fast

April 1st needs to be a regular day, personally I can not take one more act of tomfoolery

Isn't it great to have a real President?

BTW If you wanna talk about it, I'm on it!

Woman Crush of the Week - Make it woman crushes this week, Chrissy Teigen and her Mom Vilailuck Teigen on the cover of People Magazine's "Beautiful" issue

Thank You Science

Notice how Matt Gaetz and Butthead are never in the same room?!

Some people need to remember they have the right to remain silent

I can't wait for the return of Stabler tonight on Law & Order: SVU!!!

Hump Day & Chill

Lil Nas X

"Y'all wrote the script. You keep tellin' queer kids they're going to hell. You keep weaponizing your religion. You abuse. You exploit. You shun. You scapegoat. You harm. And you demonize" - Sen KBjr

Ever lap danced with the Devil in the pale moonlight? What a way to go and to Hump Day & Chill!

That's correct Minions today we are going to HD&C with Lil Nas X as he gyrates his way down the highway to hell with, could it be Satan?

Without further fanfare here's Montero (Call Me By Your Name)

"Call me when you want, Call me when you need, Call me in the morning...I'll be on the way. Call me when you want, Call me when you need, Call me out by my your name" - Lil Nas X

Amon Tobin

Amon Tobin’s Nomark Records project is delighted to announce two brand new album releases this year.

Amon Tobin will release a single on April 2nd called Rise to Ashes, which is taken from the How Do You Live album, due for release later this year.

This is Amon’s first new album since a double dose in 2019 brought you the #1 album Fear in A Handful of Dust and its sister album Long Stories. Or is it?

Watchers of the Nomark label will have seen the reveal of several of Amon’s aliases over the last couple of years. In 2019 Only Child Tyrant released Time To Run, an electronic rock record which the LA Times concluded “rocks. Like, turn-it-up-to-11 rocks”, with the title track recently featuring on an episode of NBC’s thriller The Blacklist

Figueroa’s debut The World As We Know It was released in 2020 to widespread acclaim with Kris Needs in PROG describing how “Tobin has taken folk’s ongoing revolution and pushed it another giant step forwards.” and TREBUCHET magazine asking, “Could The World As We Know It be the greatest album of 2020?”

There has always been the promise from Nomark of new aliases and May 2021 will see the reveal of another.

Stone Giants will be releasing a series of singles, beginning in May, with an album West Coast Love Stories following in early July. Amon talks about Stone Giants as “developing over some years much like my other aliases. I’d water it like a plant while trying to guide its shape over time but it had its own will too.”

Monday Motivation

I Shot The...
Daryl Hannah

The world keeps turning and Monday Motivation keeps evolving, you'll find out shortly what I mean. "Yes" Minions today's MM is brought to you by Elle Driver and Vaccines.

Elle (played by Daryl Hannah) in Kill Bill is the Pfizer Vaccine poster entity, translation: I am getting my first round of Pfizer today, Yay!

I like many of you have been waiting to be able to receive a COVID vaccine and I am finally in today, on a Monday no less.

What's that you say? Ell Driver is kind of an odd choice given she tried to off someone in Kill Bill in the guise of a nurse? Why "Yes" she did, but it is all in good fun from my POV, and let's face it even though I am thrilled to be getting the shot, there is still that element of the unknown in the mix.

"No" it doesn't mean I am scared, it means I am cheeky 😜

Hit me with your best shot!

Sunday Sinema: Donnie Darko

What would Easter be without Frank???

Fifteen years before Stranger Things combined science fiction, Spielbergian touches and 80s nostalgia to much acclaim, Richard Kelly set the template - and the high-water mark - with his debut feature, Donnie Darko. Initially beset with distribution problems, it would slowly find its audience and emerge as arguably the first cult classic of the new millennium.

Donnie is a troubled high school student: in therapy, prone to sleepwalking and in possession of an imaginary friend, a six-foot rabbit named Frank, who tells him the world is going to end in 28 days, 06 hours, 42 minutes and 12 seconds. During that time he will navigate teenage life, narrowly avoid death in the form of a falling jet engine, follow Frank's maladjusted instructions and try to maintain the space-time continuum.

Described by its director as "The Catcher in the Rye as told by Philip K. Dick", Donnie Darko combines an eye-catching, eclectic cast - pre-stardom Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal, heartthrob Patrick Swayze, former child star Drew Barrymore, Oscar nominees Mary McDonnell and Katharine Ross, and television favorite Noah Wyle - and an evocative soundtrack of 80s classics by Echo and the Bunnymen, Tears for Fears and Duran Duran. This brand-new 4K restoration, carried out exclusively for this release by Arrow Films, allows a modern classic to finally receive the home video treatment it deserves.
