"Carrie" Turns 50

"Crazy Carrie"

Last night I attended the 50th Anniversary Screening of the Brian DePalma classic "Carrie" at Hollywood Forever Cemetery as a VIP with my friend Scott Jacobs in tow.

The evening was hosted by Janelle Monae and it was a blast! I was too young to see "Carrie" when it first opened in theaters, thus my only experience viewing it has been relegated to video until now...

Seeing it blown up in epic proportions at Hollywood Forever it made much more of an impact, I must say. Anyway catch a vicarious thrill and enjoy my images from last night's to do.

About Last Night...

Last night was the 25th Anniversary Screening of David Lynch's Mulholland Drive at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. The cemetery also happens to be where Mr. Lynch now resides.

The evening was perfection with all the Lynch fans out in full force and to top it off there was a full moon.

Yours truly resided in the VIP section with my friend Scott in tow. Here are some photos from the event.

Mulholland Drive

Tonight I will be attending the 25th Anniversary Screening of Mulholland Drive at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Hollywood, CA naturally.

Also there is a quite David Lynch like twist to this, for those of you who don't know, Hollywood Forever is his final resting place, thus Mr. Lynch will be in attendance.

Here is what Todd McCarthy for Variety said about this classic when it came out in 2001:

"The story is hardly straight in "Mulholland Drive," the compelling but intentionally inscrutable return of the "weird" David Lynch that will please his hardcore fans even if it has them scratching their heads as well."

Scratching my head??? As If! For some reason Mulholland Drive has gotten more linear the older I get. To me it is a very straightforward Hollywood tale.

I can't wait to join the enthusiastic crowd of David Lynch fans tonight amongst the stars and the deceased!

BTW if any of you will be attending come say "Hi" I will be in the VIP section thus  easy to find.

Silencio...

Hump Day & Chill

Strut!

Male Peacocks are natures technicolor, they add some pizazz to any landscape. Here is one I shot at Hollywood Forever Cemetery yesterday before yoga.

Thus we are going to Hump Day & Chill to the Male Peacock! As you know the female of the species are quite unglamourous and dowdy.

All hail the peacock! Resplendent!

Cool (For The Summer) Cats

Cool Cats

Another Monday another yoga class at Hollywood Forever Cemetery...

For those of you not in the know I practice yoga in Hollywood at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. It's an oasis in the middle of the city and it feels like you in a completely other world.

Many animals are to be found on the grounds from Peacocks, Geese and Turtles to name a few.

So every time I am there I get to enjoy various living creatures. Of course the one staple every place like this has is feral cats roaming the grounds.

Here's two cool cats keeping it real cool for the summer on top of someone who has been laid to rests marker.

They must have known I was coming as they seemingly struck a pose.

Hope your summer is going well and remember no matter how cool you are you will never be as cool as the cats at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

Hump Day & Chill

Fire Walk With Me

"This whole world's wild at heart and weird on top" Lula, Wild At Heart

While exiting Hollywood Forever Cemetery post yoga yesterday I happened upon the final resting place of filmmaker David Lynch with many items of tribute scattered around his marker.

Being a Lynch fan I just had to take a picture and share it with all of you.

Thus today we are going to Hump Day & Chill to the greatness of David Lynch.

Wild At Heart is my favorite film by him, so I used my favorite quote from it at the top of this Hump Day & Chill post, naturally.

I'm sure seeing him at peace memories of his genius come flooding back to many of you.

Hump Day & Chill and reminisce about them...

Hump Day & Chill

With the world being what it is, one must take the time to be mindful and not get too overwhelmed.

See this turtle they have the right idea. When I saw it basking in the sun at the bottom of the lake that the Douglas Fairbanks Jr. Memorial adorns at Hollywood Forever Cemetery pre-yoga yesterday I couldn't help but being drawn in to the tranquility of it's being.

This is an awesome reminder that we all need to Hump Day & Chill Minions!!!

Let's bend it like this dope turtle today and be mindful that we all need to do something for ourselves and our well being.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to join my turtle friend at the bottom of the lake for a bit.

The 30th Anniversary Of "Showgirls"

Myself & Elizabeth Berkley

This past Saturday I was lucky enough to be a VIP attendee at the 30th Anniversary Screening Of "Showgirls" put on by Cinespia at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

OMG! It was amazing! Elizabeth Berkley who played the fierce Nomi Malone showed up and introduced the film honoring Gay Pride Month! And then I got a photo with her afterward.

"Showgirls' came out when I was in my thirties and still exploring my identity as a Gay Man. The character of Nomi Malone is someone many gay men, including myself identify with strongly. My inner gay child was dancing with joy during this special evening.

All the photos with the exception of the one taken of Ms. Berkley and Myself were shot by my friend and guest for the to do Bob Drapeau...Leave your inhibitions at the door, the show is about to begin!

Up On The Roof

Myself & Tyler Cassity, Owner Of Hollywood Forever

Yesterday I attended a party celebrating the opening of the new mausoleum at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Hollywood, CA, naturally.

The to do was held on the rooftop of the structure, that's correct I said rooftop. This mausoleum is big! Five stories to be exact and one hundred feet tall. With some amazing views and curated space for events and celebrations of any kind.

It was christened with the first yoga class ever held on the roof yesterday before the party.

Here are some photos yours truly took while attending it.

Enjoy!

Strike A Pose

Beauty's Where You Find It
Photo:
Michael Shinafelt

Yesterday whilst taking a Saat Naam reprieve aka yoga at Hollywood Forever Cemetery I saw these three peacocks ("Yes" they live there, along with ducks, geese, feral cats and others) standing in formation before class began.

I usually get there a half hour early to walk about the grounds and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the surroundings before class actually starts.

Thus I was fascinated that each of these three peacocks were standing and striking a pose on each tier of this wall overlooking the lawn in front of the Douglas Fairbanks Jr Memorial where we meditate.

Honestly my take is they knew I was there and were strutting their stuff for me.

Nature, gotta love it!

Just Because

Hollywood Forever Cemetery

"Are you brave enough to let me see your peacock?" - Peacock, Katy Perry

Just Because I personally like this photo I took here is a peacock in a cemetery. You're welcome...

Whilst walking in to Hollywood Forever Cemetery to get my Zen on, I spotted this photo worthy moment. The composition was perfection! Thus I aimed my phone and shot.

"Yes" I shot Mr. Peacock in the cemetery with the Android 20 and I'd do it again so there!

So obviously I am brave enough to let you see my "peacock"

Until we meet again...!

Remember When...

Loving this today, it makes me remember when I was in my 20's. That's correct Minions the formative years. You remember that time you went to band camp??? Anyway...

This was my go to type of thing when I was stressed out I would find something fun and completely distracting. Oh, I beleve you thought I was going to address the sex part. That's for my book, can't put it all out there on a blog.

Bringing me to today in my 50's my stress relief is yoga. Hitting it today at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Then heading home to take care of business and chill.

As for the abovementioned??? Yeah, that still has been known to happen...

Only 3 More Days Until...Halloween!

Michael Shinafelt

As you can see I am falling apart with excitement, only three more days until Halloween!

The month of October is my favorite time of the year as we celebrate Halloween all month long (well at least I do, and I know many of you f do as well) - honestly it's the most fun I have for 31 days straight of the whole year (not the only fun I said the MOST fun.)

What am I doing for the big H? Presently my only real plan is to attend yoga at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Then I'm going to let the spirits be my guide for the rest of the day and see where they take me.

I'm sure the journey will be exactly the Halloween experience I need. The spirits always know...

It's always Halloween in my soul!

Boo!

Mr. Black

Who says Black Cats are bad luck?! Not me, especially not today  Satan. Why not today? I'm glad you ask because Mr. Black, as I call him is here to let you know Purrrrfectly that tomorrow is Halloween!

Are you ready? I am, can't wait for the spirit world to open and to reconnect with it.

BTW even though that doesn't happen until he stroke of midnight on Halloween, I did celebrate Day of the Dead last night at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

It was amazing to be a part of a long standing Spanish tradition.

Until tomorrow, scare ya later Minions!

Getting Your Zen On

Matthew McConaughey

Being that I missed my annual Day of the Dead yoga meditation this past Tuesday due to having had to get an X-Ray of my creaky left middle finger I'm gonna make-up for it today.

That's correct Minions I'm gonna hit the mat at Hollywood Forever Cemetery this ayem and re-charge my chakras (say that three times fast.)

Since visualization is part of the process here's some Man Candy from me to you.

Day Of The Dead

Day Of The Dead

Today marks the conclusion of the Day Of The Dead celebration. "No" this has nothing to do with George Romero film in his zombie trilogy of the same name.

For the uninitiated here's the 411 explaining the significance of it: Prayer and remembrance of friends and family members who have died

Well last year I celebrated by partaking in yoga at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. "Yes" that's correct I took time to reflect and meditate in a place where there are actual dead people and no I didn't see any.

Honestly it was a truly amazing experience, a renewal if you will.

FYI I took the photo above when I was there last year. It was behind the instructor during class. Translation: that was everyone's view for the Day Of The Dead meditation.

What's that you say, am I going this year? No unfortunately I have to have an X-ray done on my left middle finger, it's wonky.

Just Because...Courtney Love

Feel The Love
Courtney Love

Just Because I love her music. Just Because the Hollywood Forever Cemetery is the bomb & Just Because I can. It's a Courtney Love kind of Sunday!

See Courtney attend the Gucci Guilty launch party @ Hollywood Forever. Hey she don't wanna be buried in no Pet Sematary...

I have been a fan of not only Courtney Love's music with and without her band Hole. I am also a fan of her acting. She brings a feral quality to each of her roles and a presence to the big and small screen like no other.

Thus it's great to see her out and about and would be even better to see her act and make music again sometime in the very near future.

Today's Sunday Commandment is do something outside of your comfort zone and bend it like Courtney Love.
