Versailles Jerk?
Look, We're Jerking! Ben Hanisch & Amy Schumer |
Recently whilst on vacation Amy Schumer and her boyfriend Ben Hanisch decided to clown around and took this photo which ended up on her Instagram with the caption "Jerks at Versailles"
Oh Amy I thought you were way more clever than this. Why not the caption Versailles Jerk? This way you could have pretended you made up a new dance craze or something.
Ponder that!
It's Saturday don't forget to jerk!

Serving Donna Summer Realness: Lady Gaga
Dancing Queen Lady Gaga |
It was a perfect illusion (Perfect illusion)
Mistaken for love, it wasn't loveIt was a perfect illusion (Perfect illusion)" - Perfect Illusion, Lady Gaga
After a powerful ballad, 'Till It Happens To You that should have won the Oscar over that anemic Bond Theme crooned by Sam Smith, and a cracker jack collaboration with Tony Bennett - Lady Gaga is back to pop music with a vengeance. Her latest single Perfect Illusion has dropped!
This is powerhouse dance, pop stuff with a twist of rock thrown in for good measure and the smartest thing our Lady has done? She took a cue from the late great Donna Summer, let me explain.
I was never a huge fan of disco/dance in the eighties, but Ms. Summer was the exception to that rule. Why you are asking? Because of really excellently produced, written and most of all sung dance music, "yes" her powerful vocals were the focal point of the music, Perfect Illusion is that kind of dance music, simply the best the genre can offer.
You go Gaga! If this is any indicator of what the rest of the album is going to be like, well count me in! Teaming up with Mark Ronson does a Lady good!!!
Listen to Perfect Illusion after the jump!

No Pretending, The Pretenders
Have you ever seen Pretenders live? I have, If you haven't you should!
Pretenders has announced the release of its long awaited new album. ALONE (BMG) arrives everywhere on October 21. ALONE is available for pre-order now, with all orders joined by an instant download of the album’s electrifying first single, “Holy Commotion."
ALONE was recorded with The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach at his Easy Eye Studio in Nashville and mixed by Tchad Blake (The Black Keys, Elvis Costello, Richard Thompson). The album was initially conceived as follow-up to legendary bandleader Chrissie Hynde’s acclaimed 2014 solo debut,STOCKHOLM, but as its songs and sonics took shape, the collection soon revealed itself as the first all new Pretenders LP since 2008’s BREAK UP THE CONCRETE.
ALONE sees the one and only Hynde backed by a team of what she proudly calls “real people playing real instruments,” helmed by the multi-talented Auerbach and featuring Nashville session luminaries including bassist Dave Roe (Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Sturgill Simpson), pedal steel pioneer Russ Pahl (Blake Shelton, Don Williams, Luke Bryan), and guitarist Kenny Vaughan (Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives, Lana Del Rey, Ray LaMontagne), as well as keyboardist Leon Michels and drummer Richard Swift – both charter members of Auerbach’s adventurous garage rock combo The Arcs.
Hynde and Auerbach made for ideal foils, two idiosyncratic songwriter/musicians each possessing a deep knowledge and even deeper love of rock ‘n’ roll, both of course hailing from the City of Invention itself, Akron, Ohio. Though neither remain, Akron continues to inform both artists’ work, the Rubber City’s long history of progressivism and ingenuity, hard work and musical experimentation, are all very much present in their first full-length collaboration.
ALONE indeed bears all the trademarks of The Pretenders’ legendary canon – raw and rollicking riffs, poignant balladry, taut hooks and indelible melodies, all in service of Hynde’s heartworn, ever-unsentimental songcraft. Nearly four decades on from The Pretenders’ epochal 1980 debut album, Hynde’s instantly identifiable voice is perhaps more emotional, more aggressive than at any other time in her career as all the vocals were recorded in 48 hours. That extra bit of edge only serves to add fire to new Pretenders classics like the brutally candid “I Hate Myself” and the defiant title track, a spiky rocker that sees Hynde extolling the joys and virtues of solitude.
“We were in the studio hanging out,” Hynde says, “and the guys were talking about their families and their wives and I said, ‘Well, I do everything alone. I go to the cinema alone. I go to restaurants alone. I live alone. I pretty much do everything on my own. I don’t mind.’ Dan says, ‘Write a song about it.’
“The more I thought about it,” she continues, “I thought, I’ve heard 1,000 songs in my life, they’re all about, I am so tired of being alone. I can’t live without you. Since you’ve left my world has fallen apart. When am I going to see you again? Marry me and be with me for the rest of my life. I have never heard anyone celebrate being alone in a song. I couldn’t think of one.”
Other highlights include “Roadie Man,” a softly sung paean to the hard working touring crew that has been kicking around Hynde’s unrecorded songbook for more than 25 years, the seductive “Let’s Get Lost” (co-written with songwriting superstars Amanda Ghost and Dave McCracken), and “Never Be Together,” featuring an inimitable contribution from legendary twang bar hero Duane Eddy.
“As soon as you hear one note you know who it is,” says Hynde. ‘I don’t get real excited about vintage guitars and stuff but I do if someone else is playing them that brilliantly.”
ALONE marks Hynde’s first musical effort since her extraordinary 2015 memoir, RECKLESS: MY LIFE AS A PRETENDER, hailed by the New York Times upon its release as “honest and distinctive…first and foremost, a love letter to rock and roll.” “RECKLESS is more than a well-written, thoughtful memoir,” raved the Huffington Post. “It’s a cultural history of the rock scene in the 60s and early 70s, told by an astute observer who, perhaps unwittingly, reminds readers that improbable dreams can come true.” Hynde “(writes) with the sort of candor and humor rarely found in bookss,” declared the Boston Globe, noting, “Bad girls sometimes finish first.” “(Hynde] writes just like she lives,” wrote the Daily Beast, “and just like she makes music. She does it her way, which is an inimitable multiplicity of things: impulsive, untamed, ragged, proud.”

Lee "Scratch" Perry "Must Be Free"
From the man who brought you Bob Marley...
On "Must Be Free", the Grammy-winning artist, songwriter, and producer doesn't hesitate with his unexpurgated commentary on his spirituality, good and evil, the human condition, and aliens. Featured styles include reggae, dub, dubstep, acid jazz, and electronic music. Special guests include Subatomic Sound System, The Groovematist, and IAmPhloboi.
Perry was one of the pioneers in the development of dub music with his early adoption of effects and remixing to create new instrumental or vocal versions of existing reggae tracks. He has worked with Bob Marley and the Wailers, Junior Murvin, the Congos, Max Romeo and many others.
Perry has over 60 albums to his name, can read minds, once put a curse on the BBC for not playing his records, and was turned into Superman by Haitian zombie drugs. He's the kind of cosmic entity that has inspired everyone from the Beastie Boys, Andrew WK, Animal Collective, to Keith Richards with some of his mystic dub magic.

Pretty Tongue Contest Scott Eastwood & Cara Delevingne |
Happy Labor Day from Burning Man! No, I'm not there, I wish, but apparently Cara Delevingne & Scott Eastwood are.
Black Rock City, Nevada is a Hollywood hot bed, pun intended, this year with celebrities wanting to feel the burn (another intentional pun) and check out for a few days.
When Scott collided with Cara there he did what anyone else would do, took a photo for his Instagram account and posted it with this caption:
"Look at this little gem I found in the Burn. @caradelevingne I had an amazing time there. I recommend it to anyone who wants a life changing cultural experience that will expand your mind."
Mind expansion is the new black. Enjoy your Holiday!

Double Vision: Shay Mitchell
Seeing Double Shay Mitchell |
What I can't believe is they are going to make us what until Spring for the final ten episodes of the series. April to be exact. I cry foul, the show usually returns in January. Oh, well what is one going to do? Keep up with the "Liars" on social media naturally.
It seems like only yesterday I was Tweeting, in fact it was when this fun image of Shay Mitchell came through on my feed with the caption: "Never Stop Smiling" which, yeah, made me smile : )
Shay for those of you who aren't aware plays Emily Fields on PLL. Speaking of Emily, I was intrigued that she and Alison DiLaurentis poartrayed by Sasha Pieterse on the show seem to be coupling.
Personally I would love this! Also there is a fan theory out there that actually makes sense. In one of the episodes Emily decides to donate her eggs to make money. They end up stolen, Alison reveals to Emily she is pregnant in the summer finale. The theory is somehow the egg in Ali's womb belongs to Emily thus her unborn child is... Well you get the idea. This is one fan theory I think is going to prove true.
Keep Smiling!

Like A Virgin, Eva Longoria
Eva In Charge Eva Longoria |
Let's kick off the month with a photo of Eva Longoria directing an episode of Jane The Virgin in Los Angeles. Yep, Eva is like a virgin directing her very first episode of the CW show, but not directing for the very first time.
Eva is smart, that's one of the things I have always liked about her. She is aware her acting career has a shelf life and has set herself up for continued employment beyond it.
She looks as good in a director's chair as she does on camera. Happy beginning of the end peeps!

One Of Many WTF?! Moments in Terror Toons 3 |
OK, everyone knows I am a writer, sometimes on occasion I have also been known to act. Well if you look at this still from Terror Toons 3 and look real hard you can spot me portraying an ER Dr. Kidding you don't have to look too hard I am the one not wearing a surgical mask bringing up the rear, of course I am the unsanitary one, ha!
Most likely I was so scared I forgot to put it on. Excuses, excuses, excuses...I am punished for my negligent behavior, just wait till you see how the evil Dr. Carnage offs me in quite a violent way. So for any of you out there who wanna see me killed by a homicidal cartoon, well here is your chance!
This horror flick is one wild and crazy ride, I had a blast seeing the finished product at the premiere. So what's it about exactly you say? Check out the synopsis here:
Picking up exactly where the original left off. This 3rd installment tells the tale of Cindy and her little sister Candy fighting the good fight with the help of their friends against evil Dr. Carnage and his abominable sidekick, Max Assassin. As If, Dolly Parton Is #1!
Left to right: Danny Nozell, CEO, CTK Management; Dolly Parton; and, Kirt Webster, President/CEO, Webster Public Relations
Because she can, can, can...
World-renowned singer/songwriter/entertainer Dolly Parton has a worldwide #1 album to celebrate this week. The superstar’s new release Pure & Simple debuts at #1 not only in the U.S., but, also on the national country charts in Canada, U.K. and Australia.
Dolly’s 43rd studio recording and the first release of her recently-announced joint venture between Dolly Records and Sony Music Nashville, achieves #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart with first-week sales of 20,000 units! This marks the first time Dolly has topped Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart in the 25-year history of SoundScan.
The new album which released August 19th on Dolly Records/RCA Nashville lands the #11 slot on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart with a first-week total consumption of 21,000. On Billboard’s Americana/Folk Albums chart, the disc debuts at #1. In the UK, Pure & Simple enters the all-genre album sales chart at #2, behind Frank Ocean’s Blonde.
Upon hearing the news, Dolly Parton, who co-produced and wrote every song on Pure & Simple, enthused, "Boy, it's a good day for me. I am a happy girl!" She continued, "It feels great to be #1 as it's been a long time and it feels so good to still be in the game after all this time."
Remarked Doug Morris, CEO, Sony Music Entertainment, “Congratulations, Dolly, for your stunning debut with Pure & Simple. You put your heart and soul in this album, and we join you in celebrating a long-overdue #1 on the country album chart.”
“I thought it was a magical time back in 1981, when I first started working with Dolly as we set up her Best Little Whorehouse album on RCA, right after her huge hit, ‘9 To 5,’” reflected Randy Goodman, Chairman & CEO, Sony Music Nashville. “I spent a week with her on the RCA jet visiting radio and retail all over the country.” Goodman continued, “But, to be reunited with Dolly and have a #1 debut is wonderful. Thank you, Doug Morris for bringing Dolly back to RCA.”
CTK Management CEO Danny Nozell said, "There is nobody more deserving of this tremendous success. Having worked with Dolly for the past 13 years, I have never met any person that works harder than her.” Nozell added, “She is a businesswoman that understands her brand and knows exactly what to do and when to do it, and once again, she proves it with a #1 album."
Last week, Dolly Parton made appearances on NBC’s Today and Tonight Show, among other TV shows.

Spears Slays
It's Britney Bitch! Britney Spears |
While scanning MTV Video Music Awards coverage, which seems like an oxymoron at this point, online as I didn't watch them last night since I was otherwise engaged. I came a cross this amazing looking woman in the most perfect dress that werked for her image and her figure...One Ms. Britney Spears! That's right, It's Britney Bitch!
Now let me make it crystal that I am not a Britney fan, nor have I ever been. That being stated I have nothing against her either. For a woman who has gone through the ringer, who could forget Britney The Dark Ages, and back, I have to give her and her family credit for reclaiming her life and then some.
Mental illness and depression are a tough go, some people are lucky like Ms. Spears and manage to overcome them and or get it under control. Others are not as fortunate.
Cheers to you Britney you looking happy and healthy may you to continue to live long and prosper.

Gangsta! Erin & Sara Foster |
At a recent photo shoot the stars of the VH1 reality show/sitcom hybrid Barely Famous, toyed around with stacks of cash like it belongs on a Monopoly board. This time the no holds barred duo have finally done it, they have crossed the line, no one treats money like a trivial object.
What? You say they have crossed plenty of other lines that are much funnier? Well, "yes" they have, and I love them for it!

Jamie Lee Curtis, Lea Michele and the rest of Chanels return along with new comer Taylor Lautner.

Guns N' Roses "Leave Your Ugly Friends At Home"
No Plus Ones Guns N' Roses |
One of my favorite rock groups evah, Guns N Roses have reunited and hit the road. They recently played Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
Well since LA is the city of illusion the aging Casanova's team shot off an E-mail to Photogenics a modeling agency based in the City of Angels extending an invite to every female model on their roster.
The first fifty got free seats in the first couple of rows, backstage passes and a coveted spot on the guest list to the after party at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
Rule of accepting this invite no plus ones, only models. Marketing at it's finest.

TBT: Truth Or Dare
Truth Or Dare Turns 25! Madonna |
The ruckus part? The behind the scenes footage of course! It featured all sorts of taboo content that was not really in the forefront of mainstream media consciousness at the time. Such as boy on boy action, frank discussions about sex and disclosures about ones love life...OK, it addressed sex in an open and provocative manner, which managed to cause a media frenzy surrounding it.
I loved it, and found it not only a brilliant piece of filmmaking, but also marketing. There had been nothing like it at the time and it was a liberating experience for this Madonna fan when he saw it at the theater two times before it hit video.
Cut to 25 years later. It had an anniversary screening for 400 fans at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, where Madonna made a surprise appearance much to her fan's delight!
Also on hand was the films director, Alek Keshishian.
Does it hold up today you ask? I have seen the film not too long ago, while it is still entertaining the shock value it once had has faded and become the norm for our chaotic society. It is a film of place and time and it is an important piece of pop culture whose influence vividly has it's fingerprints all over what's going on in entertainment today.
Throwback Thursday indeed.

Knock, Knock, Knockin' On Satan's Door
In the 1980s, it seemed impossible to escape Satan's supposed influence. Everywhere you turned, there were warnings about a widespread evil conspiracy to indoctrinate the vulnerable through the media they consumed. This percolating cultural hysteria, now known as the "Satanic Panic," not only sought to convince us of devils lurking behind the dials of our TVs and radios and the hellfire that awaited on book and video store shelves, it also created its own fascinating cultural legacy of Satan-battling VHS tapes, audio cassettes and literature.
Satanic Panic: Pop-Cultural Paranoia in the 1980s offers an in-depth exploration of how a controversial culture war played out during the decade, from the publication of the memoir Michelle Remembers in 1980 to the end of the McMartin "Satanic Ritual Abuse" Trial in 1990.
Satanic Panic features new essays and interviews by 20 writers who address the ways the widespread fear of a Satanic conspiracy was both illuminated and propagated through almost every pop culture pathway in the 1980s, from heavy metal music to Dungeons & Dragons role playing games, Christian comics, direct-to-VHS scare films, pulp paperbacks, Saturday morning cartoons, TV talk shows and even home computers. The book also features case studies on Thee Temple ov Psychick Youth and Long Island "acid king" killer Ricky Kasso. From con artists to pranksters and moralists to martyrs, the book captures the untold story of how the Satanic Panic was fought on the pop culture frontlines and the serious consequences it had for many involved.
"An often hilarious, sometimes terrifying view into the damage that can be caused when belief outweighs reason." - Daniel XIII, Famous Monsters of Filmland
