Kevin "Renegade" Olusola

Cellist, beatboxer, producer, Grammy winner and one fifth of Pentatonix. That is how most of you know Kevin "KO" Olusola

Perhaps you didn't know he is also a Renegade. Yes, Kevin's first EP Renegade is out tomorrow, March 10th.

Less than an hour after the EP surfaced on iTunes, The Renegade EP, which features Olusola’s world famous celloboxing (simultaneously playing cello and beatboxing), landed at #1 on the Classical Album Chart.  Simultaneously, his rendition of Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” shot to #1 on the Classical Singles Chart, with a companion music video, which "KO" premiered on YouTube in conjunction with it.

MS: Rumor has it you have a new EP coming out?

KO: Oh my god, I am ecstatic, I am beside myself! I can't believe it is real and it's happening. It's very exciting!

MS: What prompted you to do Renegade?

KO: I feel that I've gained a lot of skills now that I have been in Pentatonix a while for inspiration. I wanted to put something out that was a cohesive sound of all those experiences that I can elaborate on.

MS: So, how does it feel to be a Grammy Award Winner?

KO: It's amazing and surreal. When I say "Oh yeah we won a Grammy" that doesn't come out of most people's mouths. To know that I can say that is very humbling.

MS: Very few people have one, it's really cool.

KO: Exactly!

Renegade!

MS: On your EP, this may or may not sound weird to you. Probably not, when you played Sam Smith's Stay With Me, I heard singing even though there wasn't any.

KO: Wow! You understand it. That is the sound I am going for! The people who I have admired as instrumentalists are people like Santana. He was a singer first and his medium for that voice was his instrument. So that's why when people say that the cello is the instrument that is the closest to the human voice, I had to take it that step further. How do I actually reproduce this sound so people can actually hear a voice and say "Wow!" I tried to create a sound around it. I'm so happy you said that, that means a lot to me, Thank You.

MS: BTW I remember you playing Renegade at The Orpheum in Los Angeles, CA.

KO: Oh yeah, absolutely!

MS: You always get a solo at a Pentatonix concert which is nice.

KO: Thank you, I appreciate it. It took me so long to put all of the elements together so when I was offered the solo I thought why not just go for it!

MS: Curious people want to know. What made you want to cover Heart Attack by Demi Lovato?

KO: It had an edgy quality to it...electronic, tech, hardcore, which I love! What attracted me to it was I did not think people could ever think the piece could be done with the cello and the beatboxing. So I took it and said: "Let me try it."

                                                           "Stay With Me"

MS: You have created an original music category: Celloboxing.

KO: No one else is Celloboxing, sure why not, let's do it. (laughs)

MS: You've also played Carnegie Hall as well.

KO: Oh yeah. I did it on two different occasions one was my senior year in High School as a cellist, a solo. Then I did it in my first year of college on saxophone. Two different experiences at Carnegie Hall. I feel very honored that I have had that opportunity.

MS: How does it feel to be on the classical music charts?

KO: It's so weird to contemplate that people are actually going out and buying the music that I'm creating. I'm overwhelmed.

MS: You're like Lindsey Stirling she is a Rock Star on the violin, you are a Rock Star on the cello.

KO: Oh thank you! I appreciate that! When you think about it now this alternative sound is popularized and now has wide mass appeal. Lindsey is amazing, she really paved the way for it an created it, in how she presented what she did. There are so many ways to be heard now, it's amazing!

MS: How did you discover your inner Beatboxer?

KO: It wasn't anything that I thought of. I just kind of did it when I was young. It was this song by Musiq Soulchild called Juslisten and it had this hook at the very beginning of the song, that inspired me, that's when I started Beatboxing a lot more.

Celebrating 35! Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo

Pat & Neil K-I-S-S-I-N-G!
Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo to Embark on 35th Anniversary Tour

Concerts Set to Launch on April 10

Happy 35th anniversary you two! I have seen this dynamic duo on tour many times and can't wait to see them again! Most notably when they played Long Beach Pride two years in a row and Ms. Benatar addressed the audience and spoke about her gay brother who had passed away...very touching. Go Pat & Neil!

She sings the songs, and he plays them. Along the way, the union of Pat Benatar and Neil “Spyder” Giraldo has become one of the most successful in music history, and their legacy continues to be celebrated across the globe. The couple is kicking off their 35th Anniversary Tour on April 10 in Jackson, California. Cities listed among the North American concert series include Beverly Hills, Las Vegas, Albany, Hampton Beach, Nashville, Orlando, Durham, and many more.

The rock duo’s exceptional journey began with their debut album, In The Heat of The Night. They would soon grace the cover of Rolling Stone, and make history with the hit single “You Better Run,” which gave them the distinction of being the first female vocalist and the first guitar player featured on MTV.  In 1981, Giraldo began co-producing the pair’s recording sessions, starting with Precious Time.By the end of 1982, they were married in a Hawaiian ceremony.

“Thirty-five years ago, "Heartbreaker" was the catalyst for it all,” says Pat Benatar.  "It’s hard to believe that so much time has passed. We’re excited to be celebrating this personal and musical milestone. The tour should be an incredible, shared experience with the audience.”

"From the very beginning our chemistry was undeniable," remarks Neil Giraldo.  "This is the driving force behind everything we do. After 35 years of playing together, we're looking forward to the spring and summer leg of the tour and the future, which will surely be adventurous."

Benatar and Giraldo’s collection of hits include “We Belong,” “Promises In The Dark,” “Hell Is For Children,” “Love Is A Battlefield,” and “Heartbreaker.”  The duo has scored two RIAA-certified Multi-Platinum albums, five RIAA-certified Platinum albums, and three RIAA-certified Gold albums during their storied career. Benatar, a four-time Grammy Award winner, has three American Music Awards.  Together, Benatar and Giraldo, have 19 Top 40 singles and multiple Top 10 singles.  Neil Giraldo’s impressive back catalog includes more than 100 songs written, produced, arranged and recorded for Benatar along with hits he helped create for John Waite, Rick Springfield and Kenny Loggins, Steve Forbert, The Del Lords, Beth Hart and countless other artists. The renowned multi-instrumentalist has been featured in various publications, including Guitar WorldGold Mine and Guitar Aficionado as one of the most talented rock musicians of all-time.

In addition to this year’s concert tour, fans will also be able to enjoy the couple’s much-anticipated CD/DVD package, Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo: The 35th Anniversary Tour, featuring 14 of their greatest hits, including “All Fired Up,” “We Live For Love,” and “Invincible.”

Who Rocks It Best? Jared Leto or Kim Kardashian?

Blonde & Blonder
Jared Leto and Kim Kardashian both recently went platinum blonde. Refer to the image above. So who rocks it best?

Well Jared is obviously bleaching out because of his upcoming role as The Joker in Suicide Squad. "Yes" the next time you see him he will be fifty shades of green.

Kim K. went all out too recently, for a change of pace I am guessing. Well as we all know from recent photos of her there is no carpet to match any of her drapes. So why not?!

Who rocks it best? From my POV it's Jared of course! Like, you even had to ask given my random outbursts of Leto on here.

This post is brought to you by Frivolous Friday - because weekends were made for fun!

TBT - Pretty Little Liars: The Dark Ride

Liars Unite! Spencer, Hanna, Aria & Emily
This one goes out specifically to my fellow Pretty Little Liars fan and niece Ms. Shauna Waters.
Nothing said Halloween quite like the PLL episode The Dark Ride, season 3 episode 13. All the girls were on a train for a celebration of all that is spooky and creepy. Well you of course know who shows up to seal that deal, "A!"

Since Hanna Marin is my niece Shauna's favorite character on the show, and she was on board the terror train as Marilyn Monroe, another of her faves - this Throwback Thursday is dedicated to you grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrl!

With the big "A" reveal merely two episodes away, I have had my theories as to who that is, and one of them has been Hanna. But you never know what's happening with this roller coaster of a show anything is possible.

Shauna has yet to see this weeks PLL, you know when Hanna went to jail? We text every week about each episode, I wonder what her reaction will be to that? Hey, Shauna hurry up and watch!

Bo Derek Is A Perfect: Sharknado 3

Bo Derek: Look, Tarzan, It's My Jane
OMG! Imagine my excitement when I found out, Bo Derek was cast as Tara Reid's Mom (I try to refrain from the term "Mother" for many reasons) in Sharknado 3 ! Well if you can't, let me explain.

Bo Derek was a HUGE sex symbol when I grew up. Thus she was my first girl crush, I had a BD poster on my wall, if you don't believe me ask my Mom (again, not Mother).

When I first saw this striking beauty in the late Blake Edwards progressive sexual comedy "10" with the great, and also late Dudley Moore, I was in L-O-V-E!

Oh and BTW I was too young to see the film and saw it on Showtime with a friend behind my parents backs. However they then took myself and my sister to see my most favorite Bo film of all time, Tarzan The Ape Man - campy, awesome, brilliant and it made her and her deceased husband Jon Derek a fortune as they owned the rights.

Hey, Fashion House with her and Morgan Fairchild was pretty awesome too!

Congrats Bo, can't wait!
