Michael's Musings

TBT: Memories Of The Way Gold's Gym Was
Michael Shinafelt
This week I hit the gym for the first time since March when it closed. It actually re-opened in the middle of June, I gave it a bit to see how it went. It seems to be going fine, we now have to wear masks & gloves. They also provide you with a spray bottle and towel to wipe down the equipment before and after you use it.

Anyway my arms are really Effing sore, here we go Minions!

That time when someone points out to you that the Oompa Loompas in Willy Wonka are actually cannibals 😮

Never trust a woman running barefoot on concrete

Goth Corn is called: Corn on the Macabre, the more you know

I am extremely disappointed that Halloween Kills has been postponed until Halloween of next year. But do check out the teaser that was just released, it's terrific!

Steak at a strip club? Or listening to boring Teddi Mellencamp? I thought so...

Constipation is all around us

Hey, whatever doesn't kill me, I'm strong enough now. Thanks.

Hump Day & Chill

When In Rome...
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills
After a month of having endured repeat episodes with cast commentary, we have made it to Hump Day & Chill again with (finally) a brand new episode of  The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills airing tonight, Yay!

The reason for the month long gap? Well the 411 is because of the current pandemic they were behind on filming the confessionals. Which makes sense, because they would not be able to shoot them until after the show is completely edited and in the can as the women of BH don't really know what footage has been used until the final cut.

So, the women are jet setting off to Rome soon, as the photo above shows. Lets cross our fingers that when in Rome they do as the Romans do. Which means be more of a lover than a fighter. I know wishful thinking, right?!

Personally I am just glad that my Hump Day & Chill guilty pleasure is back, times are tough enough without having to endure repeat episodes with cast commentary.

Hiroshima

Hiroshima (1953) is a powerful evocation of the devastation wrought by the world's first deployment of the atomic bomb and its aftermath, based on the written eye-witness accounts of its child survivors compiled by Dr. Arata Osada for the 1951 book Children Of The A Bomb: Testament Of The Boys And Girls Of Hiroshima. Adapted for the screen by independent director Hideo Sekigawa (Listen to the Voices of the Sea, Tokyo Untouchable) and screenwriter Yasutaro Yagi (Theatre of Life, Rice), Hiroshima combines a harrowing documentary realism with moving human drama, in a tale of the suffering, endurance and survival of a group of teachers, their students and their families. It boasts a rousing score composed by Akira Ifukube (Godzilla) and an all-star cast including Yumeji Tsukioka (Late Spring, The Eternal Breasts), Isuzu Yamada (Throne of Blood, Yojimbo) and Eiji Okada (Hiroshima Mon Amour, Woman in the Dunes), appearing alongside an estimated 90,000 residents from the city as extras, including many survivors from that fateful day on 6th August 1945. Hiroshima was produced and distributed outside of the studio system by the Japan Teachers' Union following the mixed critical reception to Children of Hiroshima (1952), directed by Kaneto Shindo the previous year, the first dramatic feature to deal directly with the atomic bombing. Although sequences from the film were used in Alain Resnais' classic of French New Wave cinema, Hiroshima Mon Amour (1959), it has been effectively out of circulation in Japan and the rest of the world since its original release in 1953 due to the force and political sensitivity of its message. This new High Definition presentation is the complete version, restoring the footage from the international edit that was released in the United States in 1955.

Bonus Materials

  • High Definition Blu-ray™ (1080p) presentation
  • Original uncompressed audio
  • Archive interview with actress Yumeji Tsukioka
  • Hiroshima Nagasaki Download (2011), 73-minute documentary featuring interviews with survivors of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings now residing in the United States, with an introduction by the director Shinpei Takeda
  • New video essay by Jasper Sharp
  • Newly commissioned artwork by Scott Saslow
  • FIRST PRESSING ONLY: Collector's booklet featuring new writing on the film by Mick Broderick

Monday Motivation

Edina & Patsy

"Yes" I am here to confirm today is Monday. Thus your Monday Motivation assignment should you choose to accept it is to be Absolutely Fabulous.

When I woke up this morning I pondered the question "What would Patsy and Edina do?" why be totally, 100% Absolutely Fabulous!!!

So riddle me this, what makes you feel all warm and AbFab inside? Navigate to your happy place and enjoy the ride I say.

Thus I leave you with these immortal words via Patsy Stone:

'The last mosquito that bit me had to check into the Betty Ford clinic'

Monday Motivation indeed!

Current Mood

Moody
Lady Gaga
So even though there was a ban on fireworks in Los Angeles County yesterday, plenty of them were illegally ignited. Luckily no major fires were started and no one (that I've heard of) was injured.

I actually just heard one go off as I am sitting here at my keyboard clacking away. Thus this brings me to my Current Mood.

This image of  Lady Gaga sums it up perfectly. My mood is indescribable and sort of on edge much like this Pippi Longstocking  meets Orphan look that Gaga is sporting.

You know Orphan as in the horror movie Orphan and if you don't know Pippi Longstocking Google that, OK?

Thus I think I will sit with this feeling and make it work. Time to 5th of July Minions!
