"This Is Dirty"

Jawbreakers

Jawbreakers Clean Up the Dancefloor with

                                  “This is Dirty”

New Single is an Ode to Social Influencers, The Cock Destroyers

The drag-duo DJ-production team known as Jawbreakers return to the dancefloor this month with “This is Dirty,” the second single from their soon-to-be-released 'Just A Taste' EP.  The song is a camp club track that references The Cock Destroyers, two British porn stars who exploded on Twitter after a viral clip emerged of the two ladies proclaiming, "Do you know what we are? Cock destroyers, Cock f---ing destroyers," among other bizarre quotes.  “Sophie Anderson and Rebecca More of The Cock Destroyers were a huge part of queer pop culture when we were coming of age,” explains Jawbreakers’ Sabrina Babyslut.   “We were obsessed with their strong message of sex positivity and support of sex workers.”  Jawbreakers met the now-split-up Cock Destroyers in 2019 at Amsterdam’s Milkshake Festival.  The meeting inspired them to introduce the infamous porn duo to the next generation of queer clubbers with a fanciful song that contained an underlying kink theme but was suitable for all to enjoy. “We want everyone to be able to dance and party to our music!” Jawbreakers’ Kali Forni-Kate exclaims. Jawbreaker’s “This is Dirty” is being distributed through Extrovert Music, a division of Vicious Recordings, and is available on Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer.  Its lyric video is available on YouTube.  The Just A Taste EP will be available on Apple Music and Spotify on April 1.

“This is Dirty” isn’t just for the dancefloor, it’s for all floors!”  proclaims Kali Forni-Kate from her Melbourne home.  “It can be listened to on loop while on hands and knees scrubbing the kitchen floor,” she says.  The song follows the Jawbreakers previous hit single, “Boyfriend;” a track that climbed to #1 on the iTunes Dance chart in January 2022.

In the “This is Dirty” lyric video, Kali and Sabrina are seen in sexy maid uniforms, leaning into the song’s playful double meaning.  “We designed and made those outfits,” Sabrina explains.  “Other than the fact that it was 90 degrees on the day we filmed the video, and Kali and I were in full drag in a studio with no air conditioning, we had a blast!”

Charles Buxton-Leslie, known for his recent work with queer artists G Flip and MAY-A — and for directing Jawbreakers’ “Boyfriend” video — directs the “This is Dirty” lyric video. Also returning is the washing machine from the “Boyfriend” video;  this time covered in colorful stickers.

Along with the radio edit, Vicious Recordings will release several new remixes of “This is Dirty” on March 4th.  Included in the package will be the James Alexandr piano house remix, John Course’s minimal and dark cut and two tracks by LA based producer Twonski: a driving 'space disco' version and an 'acid filth' remix.

Kali and Sabrina first met in 2016, performing in a Britney Spears tribute show in Melbourne.  They immediately clicked as both came from similar middle-class, nuclear family backgrounds, discovered drag via their passions for musical theatre, and began their individual adventures into the art form after high school.   When they learned of their shared interest in music production, they decided to join forces as a DJ duo.    They bought a mixer and six months later they were in business as Jawbreakers.

The duo has already headlined several international festivals including Sydney Mardi Gras and Milkshake Festival in Netherlands. Their next big gig will be Summer Camp Festival where they will perform alongside Years and Years, Big Freedia and The Veronicas. They are also slated to perform the next Goodlife U18 event, as well as Adelaide Festival, St Kilda Festival and Melbourne Pride.

“We have been keeping an eye on Jawbreakers for several years,” says Damien Platt of Extrovert Music, a division of Vicious Recordings, the label that discovered Avicii when he was a teenager, and released his first ten records.  “When Kali and Sabrina presented us with demos of the EP, we were instantly fans of the music. It's fun, its camp and its quality music.”

Jawbreakers is not Extrovert Music’s first foray into gay dancefloor music.   Label co-founder Andy Van, of the band Madison Avenue, had a #1 dance anthem with “Don’t Call Me Baby”. More recently, Sgt Slick’s recut of “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” went gold and has become a major queer anthem.  “Extrovert Music is focusing on dance pop/disco/commercial/cross over releases,” Platt continues. “A majority of our new signings and existing roster who identify as LGBTQIA+ are producing this sound.”

Jawbreakers’ “Just A Taste” EP is being distributed through Extrovert Music, a division of Vicious Recordings, and will be available on Apple Music and Spotify on April 1.  Jawbreaker’s “This is Dirty” is available now on multiple platforms and its lyric video is available on YouTube.  Follow on Instagram @ JawbreakersDJ

Michael Shinafelt

Today I am feeling the "F" word, Fierce! "Yes" Fierce Minions! The reason for that is after all of the "stuff" we all have been collectively going through these past few years I am back to feeling my bad self.

Hump Day & Chill

The Women
Of
Euphoria

While there have been some mixed reactions to the current season of Euphoria I am in the camp that loves it! Especially how the first four episodes were over the top with graphic violence and sex and then episodes five and six became less about shock and awe and more about reality setting in...brilliant!

Thus this group shot of the women of Euphoria is giving me life and it is this week's Hump Day & Chill.

I'm not gonna name all the cast members, if you know, you know. Yeah, I'm not in that giving of a mood this week and this one is for us fans of Euphoria and if you aren't one well then no Hump Day & Chill for you this week, sorry.

So here you go my fellow Euphoria peeps, you know who you are and now it's time to Hump Day & Chill!

Renaldo & The Loaf - 23rd Century Giants

MVD ENTERTAINMENT GROUP ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF 23rd CENTURY GIANTS’, A NEW DOCUMENTARY TELLING THE FASCINATING STORY OF THE UNIQUE RENALDO & THE LOAF. COMING IN MARCH ON BLU-RAY THROUGH WELL DANG! PRODUCTIONS.

MVD ENTERTAINMENT GROUP IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THE RELEASE OF THE MUSIC DOCUMENTARY 23rd CENTURY GIANTS - THE STORY OF RENALDO & THE LOAF’ ON BLU-RAY COMING MARCH 2022.

A decades-long friendship drives an architect and a bio-medical scientist to make the weirdest music you've ever heard in your life. And thanks to the Internet, they're more popular than ever. The documentary 23rd Century Giants follows the musical careers of mild-mannered Brits Brian Poole and David Janssen, aka Renaldo & the Loaf, whose sonic experimentation with tape loops, household objects and repurposed musical instruments alike gave them a unique electronic sound that would inspire generations of adventurous music lovers for decades. From childhood friendship, to landing a deal with the record company of their wildest dreams (Ralph Records, home of the like minded Residents), then not speaking for 20 years only to reunite to world-wide cult status, this definitive history of the band features interviews with the avant-garde duo themselves, and virtually every key figure in their musical lives.

Not many bands can boast that one of their albums, “Songs for Swinging Larvae,” was voted 14th weirdest of all time by Mojo magazine! The documentary includes the 1981 promo film made by Ralph Records for that very album, remastered in HD from the original 16mm source. There is also a plethora of unseen photos, unheard music and comedic cutout animations that do an incredible job of visually representing the strangeness. The band made their long anticipated live debut in Vienna in 2018 before an adoring crowd, footage of which is also included. This touching story of the power of friendship and creativity will have even reluctant listeners eager to hear what Renaldo & the Loaf come up with next, and send them down the rabbit hole of exploring their singular catalog. Essential for any curious fan of eccentric and unconventional music.

Bonus Materials
·        25 minutes of extended interviews and deleted scenes
·        1981 Ralph Records 'Songs for Swinging Larvae' promo film, remastered in HD from the original 16mm source.
·        Renaldo & The Loaf's 'Backwards Film Study #1' 8mm film
·        Music videos for 'A Convivial Ode' and 'Optimism'

Love Story: Marla & Dave Thomas

Marla & Dave Thomas

Happy Valentine's Day! Today we are celebrating it with Marla & Dave Thomas, they have been married 34 years!

Dave is a ten time Grammy Award Winner from the band Take 6. Marla is a celebrity realtor. What's the secret to their long lasting love story?

Well let's let them tell us, shall we? Take it away Marla & Dave!

MS: After 34 years of marriage, how do you maintain a healthy relationship?

DAVE: Our friendship is the foundation of our marriage.

MARLA: Occasionally, when we forget about the friendship, a good brisk tennis/pickleball match resets things.

MS: Did you have any inkling when you met in the second grade that you would be together?

MARLA: Do ducks breed with pigeons? When we met, we despised each other! I was new to the elementary school he was already attending. I had a super short afro, so he kept referring to me as a boy. I had to wait for puberty to set the record straight.

MS: Were there relationship stresses that came from your role in the 10x Grammy Award-winning Take 6?

DAVE: Obviously! Take 6 has always been a world wide touring group. In the early days of our career, we would easily tour 250 days of the year. That has continued. Pre-pandemic, we toured at least 150 days a year. That much time away from home puts a tremendous strain on any relationship.

MS: What were the relationship stresses that may have come from building your business as a celebrity realtor?

MARLA: Every career endeavor that I undertake has the same set of challenges. Balancing the ongoing crisis of our adult children who suffer from varying mental health diagnosis, maintaining the function of our life and finances, all while occasionally taking time out to play with Dave on the road.

MS: During such a long marriage, you've undoubtedly gone through ups and downs - how have you weathered those moments together?

MARLA: I would venture to say that intermittent distance has worked well for us both. Time apart for our personality types gives us both time to regroup and be reminded about the reason we chose to make this crazy “forever” commitment to each other.

MS: How did your mental health advocacy come about?

MARLA: Our story is a very public one. We are the parents of 3 children who now range in ages are 34-32-29. The two oldest have struggled with various issues throughout their life. It wasn’t until the two oldest were young adults and experienced various serious mental health crises did we discover the source of their issues. As most parents would do, we kicked into gear to find solutions to “fix” their problems. Once we understood that their diagnosis would mean a lifetime of management, but never a cure, our foundation “Loving Beyond Reason” was born.

DAVE: We are determined to both erase the stigma surrounding mental illness and to help other families that make the decision to care for their loved ones,  who suffer with brain differences beyond what seems to be,  find solutions.

MS: What do hope to accomplish via your podcast Mental Health Mondays with Marla and Dave?

MARLA: MHM Podcast is on air for one reason, “to be a bridge that everyone can cross to be free of the stigma attached to brain/personality differences, by sharing personal stories and information”.  It is our core belief that transparency is transforming. We have an open platform that welcomes people from all walks of life to bring their personal stories of pain and purpose to a protected platform.

MS: And what is the mission of your Loving Beyond Reason foundation?

DAVE: LBR is on a mission to provide services and education to families with loved ones who suffer with mental health challenges. Now that we have first hand experience about all the cracks that prohibit treatment and recovery, we intend to help others navigate more effectively to help their adult loved ones who suffer.

MS: What message are you sending to Marla on this Valentine's Day?

DAVE: Many people can talk about love, with all that means, but when you and I say “I love you”, it comes with a lifetime of experiences. I wouldn’t - couldn’t - choose anyone else to spend my life with other than you. I love you!

MS: What message do you for Dave on this Valentine's Day?

MARLA: Don’t ever get it twisted. Sometimes I want to knock your block off, but then I stop and  realize how much that would cost us in medical bills. So, I remind myself that you are my best friend, and how much I love you. Seriously, despite our challenges in this life, there is no better human that I have encountered, and there is the added bonus that I get to spend my whole life with my best friend (well…whatever’s left of it). I Love because you’re you. Never change!
