Michael's Musings

"I Blame Madonna"
Michael Shinafelt

While I did not watch yesterday's SS (Sh!t Show) aka The Impeachment Hearing, word travels, especially when congressman Ken Buck chose to use his time calling out Madonna. Just when you thought our government couldn't resemble an episode of The Twilight Zone more than it does...

So anything that I say in this weeks column that maybe, might offend you, I'm gonna blame Madonna for it, so there! Time to express myself Minions!

What Would Kim Cattrall Do?

Buh Bye
Kim Cattrall

With all the noise being made over a Samantha Jones less Sex and the City revival, I'm many of you have thought: What Would Kim Cattrall Do? In terms of reacting to this news?

Subtly react to a Tweet supporting her not reprising her role on the show THAT's what she'd do, and did. Bare witness to the said Tweet below...

And that my Minions is called expert shade!

And Just Like That...

Revival!
l-r
Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis & Sarah Jessica Parker

In case you haven't heard HBO Max is reviving Sex and the City for 10 episodes with the title And Just Like That...

While I do enjoy reruns of the original show I'm not really sure about this, considering the first SATC movie was merely OK, and the second movie was downright awful. Also Kim Cattrall will not be returning as Samantha, she was my favorite character on the show.

This is a "we shall wait and see" type of proposition. While I am not going to outright dismiss it, I am very skeptical moving forward.

Caution, is today's secret word...

Silly Sunday

Changing Faces
Gerard Butler

With sedition in the air I found myself wanting something a lot less heavy. My mind wandered back to a few weeks ago when I saw The Ugly Truth with Gerard Butler & Katherine Heigl for the very first time, yeah I was like a virgin, on some station.

I started thinking about what a manly stud Gerard is, thus I Goggled him and came across something even better than his usual Sex God like pose he strikes.

"Yes" it's Mr. Butler making a silly face, which is actually even sexier than if he were to smolder. I don't know about you, but a sense of humor makes a fine guy even better looking if you ask me, and while I know you didn't ask me, whatever!!!

So let's have a Silly Sunday courtesy of a Gerard, because as you know the Butler did it!

National Balloon Ascension Day

Up!

Hey you, yes you, here is something to add to your well of useless knowledge today. Did you know January 9th is National Balloon Ascension Day? Well now you do!

With all the nonsense and insane happenings in the world at large, when I found this out all I could think of is how grand it would be to escape for just a little while.

Even though I have never seen Pixar's Up, I have seen the image from it above before and it is what immediately sprung to mind when I found out that today is a celebration of ascending balloons.

Honestly it looks like a blast to hitch a house and go up, up in the air with some beautiful, vibrant balloons.

So let's celebrate today and pretend we are in the house flying high attached to a gaggle of balloons off on a magical journey, shall we? We shall!!!

Here's the 411 on NBAD - fly free Minions!

Celebrating David Bowie

Let's Dance!
David Bowie

Today would have been David Bowie's 74th Birthday. With 27 albums and 145 million copies sold worldwide David Bowie continues to inspire generation after generation. Thus I thought we would mark the legacy of this legend today. Not to mention that he is one of my favorite artists.

I thought what could I add to this day and I can say plenty, but will keep it to personal experiences. "Yes" I have a couple, wait for it...

David Bowie was my first concert I went to, it was for the Let's Dance Tour and The Tubes opened for him at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, WA. Wow! What a show that was, seeing a master of his art take the stage and command it like he did is something I will always remember. I would go on to see him two other times in concert, one of them was a co-tour with Nine Inch Nails. This is one of the things I am thankful for in my lifetime, that I have bared witness to him, live.

The next was even more personal, "Yes" I've met David Bowie. It was in a time before there were smart phones, so no visual evidence. I wished there was, as given my encounter with him I'm sure he would have graciously consented to photos.

I was working at Tower Records Sunset in Los Angeles. He came in one day and I remember all of us that worked there were awe struck. Honestly he's the only personal I have ever freaked out about (in a good way) seeing and meeting them.

He was so gracious and down to earth. No ego or attitude, very kind and so humble. So humble that when one of the clerks said: "Mr. Bowie it's such honor to meet you" He said: "Oh please, I'm not that big of a deal" - truly an amazing spirit and a class act.
